Detroit Parks Coalition 2026 Summer Parks Programming Grants (2026-05-13)

Thank you for your interest in funding opportunities from The Kresge Foundation. We make grants through seven Programs and a Social Investment Practice. Each Program has established specific objectives to advance strategic goals. These objectives are called Focus Areas. It is through Focus Areas that grant opportunities are made available to grantseekers. You can learn more about each focus area in the Our Work section under each program.

We use an array of flexible grantmaking and social investing tools. Kresge awards single and multiyear grants for general operating support, projects and planning. We also use social investing tools such as program-related investments, guarantees and equity.

The Detroit Program’s Kresge Innovative Projects: Detroit Plus initiative is launching its first-ever Cultural Heritage round, with up to $1.25 million available for community-led projects that preserve, celebrate and activate the cultural identity of neighborhoods across Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. In partnership with Co.act Detroit and Michigan Community Resources, the program will award 10 to 15 grants of up to $100,000 each for storytelling, oral history, public art, cultural events, neighborhood signage and placekeeping work.

What this round supports

KIP:D+ Cultural Heritage is designed for projects that honor the past, care for important places and imagine the future of Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. Both physical and nonphysical projects are eligible.

Examples include:

• Storytelling and oral history projects
• Archiving efforts that preserve community memory
• Public art or permanent installations
• Exhibitions
• Neighborhood signage
• Cultural events and celebrations
• Activating community spaces
• Placemaking and placekeeping work

Projects should strengthen belonging, preserve stories and places, and be shaped by community voice. Applicants should be prepared to begin work soon after receiving funding and complete their projects within a 24-month grant period.

As we evaluate proposals, we look for efforts that:

• Engage neighborhood residents and meaningfully reflect the community in organizational leadership and implementation of project activities.
• Align with one or more of the Detroit Program Focus Areas.
• Show an understanding of and address the ways in which racial inequities have impacted the city.
• Work toward a broad, equitable and sustainable revitalization in the city’s neighborhoods.
• Complement and/or connect to networks of collaborators engaged in similar work, or who are working in the same geographic area.

Low Family Foundation We See You Grants

The Low Family Foundation (LFF) We See You grant awards organizations that align with the values and interests of the Low Family Foundation’s founders: Joseph, Wilma and Rosemary Low. The LFF seeks to recognize and support the work of nonprofit organizations by expanding opportunities and supporting critical needs in and around Berrien County, MI.

The Low Family Foundation was established in 2023 through the generosity of Joseph N. and Rosemary E. Low. Joe practiced law all his life in Niles, Michigan and, with his first wife Wilma, had two sons, Joseph and John. Wilma was Joe’s legal secretary for almost 25 years and a major reason for his career and financial success. After her passing in 1995, Joe married her sister Rosemary and hence Rose was an aunt and stepmother to the sons. Joe passed in 2013, and Rose survived him until 2020. Joe, Wilma and Rose were each integral to the establishment of the Foundation.

Mission

The Joseph and Rosemary Low Family Foundation is created exclusively for charitable, religious or educational purposes including, for such purposes, making distributions to organizations that qualify as “not-for-profits.”  

The Foundation makes distribution grants in keeping with their many discussions with the Founders about their intentions. The Advisory Committee focuses on charities of known interest to the Founders: for example, Rose loved cats, Wilma was a supporter of nature centers and gardens, and Joe was interested in history. The Foundation generally limits its giving to a 100-mile radius of Berrien County, Michigan with a focus on meeting needs in Berrien County.

Human Trafficking Programming Competitive Grant

Program Purpose

The purpose of the program is to enhance or expand the anti-trafficking services offered by victim service organizations with a demonstrated history of providing services to victims of human trafficking. Funds awarded through this grant program shall enhance the scope of services offered by the organization that victims of labor and sex trafficking often require to address their needs. Allowable direct services and resources provided through these awards include:

• Individual and Group Support
• Emergency Intervention Services – Crisis Line and Emergency Response
• Advocacy and Supportive Services
• Housing, including temporary emergency housing and transitional supportive housing
• Counseling/Therapy
• Systems Change, community Education, and Public Awareness
• Legal services, including record expungement

The Lenawee Community Foundation provides essential funding to not-for-profit organizations in Lenawee County, Michigan, focusing on civic, cultural, health, education, and social services. Grants are awarded after thorough evaluations of community needs and opportunities, prioritizing projects that promise significant local benefits. Organizations must meet specific eligibility criteria, including a pre-application process for larger grants.
