Enhanced Mobility of Seniors & Individuals with Disabilities

The Federal Section 5310 grant program is intended to enhance mobility for seniors and persons with disabilities by providing funds for programs to serve the special needs of transit-dependent populations beyond traditional public transportation services.

INDOT does not provide funding to areas over 200,000 population (Lake/Porter counties, South Bend, Fort Wayne, Evansville, Indianapolis, Clark/Floyd counties) should contact their local Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). Eligible Activities

Specialized transportation projects planned, designed, and carried out to meet the special needs of seniors and individuals with disabilities when public transportation is insufficient, inappropriate, or unavailable.

Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations supporting youth, children’s health, or hunger initiatives in LaPorte County, Indiana can seek monetary or in-kind dining certificate support. Focused on kids, hunger, and education, Brinker International invites eligible groups to apply at least six weeks before events; organizations may receive one donation per calendar year.

Established 501(c)(3) nonprofits providing social services, education, arts, or community and economic development programs in LaPorte County, Indiana can seek project or program support from the 1 St Source Foundation. With a mission to strengthen community life, 1 St Source Foundation prioritizes proven organizations that reach broad segments of the communities it serves.

State agencies or their designees implementing approved aquatic invasive species management plans in Great Lakes states can apply for US $100,000 - US $600,000 to support control and prevention projects, including work in LaPorte County, Indiana. Grants from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service use Great Lakes Restoration Initiative funds for competitive state AIS plan implementation.

The PLTW Launch program, supported by Burns and McDonnell, aims to enhance student engagement in STEM education within eligible communities. Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations in LaPorte County, Indiana with local programs in youth education and empowerment, next generation storytellers, or community engagement may be eligible for NBCUniversal Local Impact Grants. The Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation supports community-focused initiatives that equip youth for success, expand diverse storytelling pathways, and encourage volunteerism in NBC and Telemundo station markets.

Nonprofit organizations seeking to improve physical or cybersecurity and facility hardening in LaPorte County, Indiana can apply for funding through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program – State. Our mission is to award grants to Chicagoland’s 501(c)(3) organizations that will expand their facilities, improve their equipment and initiate new programs, thereby uplifting the community as a whole.

The Service Club of Chicago Grant Awards 

• Applications for grant awards shall be limited to non-recurring expenses not otherwise covered in the agency’s normal operating budget.

• All applicants must provide written evidence of financial stability, documentation of their own non-profit status issued by the State of Illinois, and the latest, most current 990 filing with the IRS. All applicants must provide 501(C)(3) tax-exempt status, have been in operation no less than three years, and provide financial statements as required by the Internal Revenue Service.

• The application package must include at least two bids for each item requested (exceptions may apply). The Service Club of Chicago will disburse grant awards directly to the vendor and not to the agency; no cash awards are given.

• Grant Recipients from the preceding year are not eligible to apply for the following 3 consecutive calendar years. For example, for the upcoming 2026 grant cycle, only agencies granted in 2023 and earlier can be considered. However, if you were denied in the preceding three-year period, you may apply in the current year.

LaPorte County, Indiana nonprofits and civic or trade organizations can access funding support in the form of donated auction items and used playing cards for adult-focused events. Potawatomi Hotel & Casino offers restaurant gift cards, hotel stays, and recycled playing cards to eligible organizations within roughly a 90-mile radius that can pick up items on-site.

Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, public schools, and qualified local government entities supporting education, entrepreneurship, environment, or community enrichment in LaPorte County, Indiana can apply for Georgia-Pacific Foundation’s community grant funding. Eligible applicants must be located within 30 miles of a Georgia-Pacific manufacturing community and serve communities connected to Georgia-Pacific operations.

The Fund seeks transformative initiatives that involve collaboration among diverse stakeholders and rely on scientific rigor. Eligible applicants include non-profits, universities, and businesses, and the projects must demonstrate a positive environmental impact on the Great Lakes ecosystem. Importantly, the Fund does not support advocacy or compliance-related activities.

The Kenneth A. Scott Charitable Trust Grants focus on enhancing the quality of life for companion animals and native wildlife. This private foundation supports innovative projects that go beyond basic care, ensuring the well-being of homeless and abused animals. Eligible organizations must have a 501(c)(3) status and be located in specific states, including Ohio and parts of Indiana and Michigan. The Trust emphasizes humane treatment and sustainable funding for animal welfare initiatives.

Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations advancing social justice, arts, LGBTQ+ rights, HIV/AIDS work, or historic preservation in LaPorte County, Indiana can receive up to US $150,000 in primarily general operating support. Alphawood Foundation prefers groups serving the broader Chicago metropolitan region and accepts new proposals by invitation after an initial inquiry form.

The Kenneth A. Scott Charitable Trust offers grants aimed at enhancing the lives of animals in the Ohio/Great Lakes region. Beckley Area Foundation was established in January 1985 by ten community-minded citizens. It began with a gift of $1.1 million from the Dr. Thomas Walker Memorial Health Foundation as “seed” money for this Raleigh County project. BAF assets have grown to over $70 million with over 500 different funds managed by our three trustee banks. Today, Beckley Area Foundation is one of West Virginia’s largest community foundations.

Since its inception, BAF has distributed over $23 million to charities and other worthy projects in the fields of education, public recreation, health & human services, the arts, animal services and beautification.

The Beckley Area Foundation proudly manages scholarship funds established by individuals, businesses, and organizations dedicated to helping students pursue higher education. Many of these scholarships are tailored for specific schools, fields of study, or graduates from local high schools, while others offer broader opportunities. No matter the path, our scholarships aim to support students from our region as they work toward achieving their educational goals.

Most of these scholarships must be awarded to students from our geographic area or at least preference given to such students. While the majority of scholarships benefit Raleigh County applicants there are others designated for Fayette, Summers, Webster, and Wyoming students. 

Owen C. Meadows and Brenda J. Meadows Scholarship

Must be resident of Raleigh County; Pursuing an accredited nursing program (including technical, baccalaureate or advanced nursing education programs); Merit and need based.​

The Samaritan Albany General Hospital Volunteer Services is proud to offer scholarships each year for tuition, books and required program supplies to students pursuing higher education in a human medical field. Samaritan Albany General Hospital Gift Shop sales and miscellaneous special event proceeds are used to fund the scholarships.

Linn County students currently attending college and majoring in a medical field are invited to apply for the Samaritan Albany General Hospital Volunteer Services Scholarship.

Frank Girod, MD, Medical Scholarship

The Frank Girod, MD, Medical Scholarship was established by the Lebanon Community Hospital Development Council and was funded by numerous contributions made by the late Girod’s friends and family.

The Girod Medical Scholarship is awarded to medical students in honor of the lifetime contribution to health care made by Girod of Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital and to assist new students of medicine to make similar contributions. The scholarship is coordinated by the Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation and is designed to help residents of east Linn County who are attending medical school.

The NEI Collaborative Clinical Vision Research program aims to support innovative clinical trials focused on chronic eye diseases. This funding opportunity encourages multifaceted research addressing the causes, treatment, and rehabilitation of vision conditions, ensuring comprehensive oversight by the NIH. The program includes components like Chair's Grant and Coordinating Centers, fostering collaboration among researchers to enhance public health outcomes related to vision.

Southern West Virginia Homebuilders Scholarship

Student whose parent or legal guardian has been a member in good standing of the So. WV Homebuilders Association or whose parent or legal guardian is an employee of a member business whose job is related to the home building trade, which has been a member in good standing for the current year and at least one year prior to scholarship application. Awarded on the basis of a combination of need and merit.

This scholarship is not renewable.

Norm & Marilyn Leven Challenge Scholars Scholarship

Preference for Challenge Scholar students through 2032.

Generally the Community Foundation's scholarships are awarded to applicants who have high financial need. Applicants with household income exceeding $100,000 are less likely to be awarded, but applying will allow you to be considered for targeted scholarships.

Miller Johnson Michigan Diversity Law School Scholarship

Open to students of color accepted to or presently attending an accredited law school within the US with a permanent residence in Michigan or attending a Michigan law school with financial need and a minimum 3.0 GPA.
