Mission and History

The Oklahoma Department of Libraries (ODL) serves as the State Library, State Archives, and Records Administrator for Oklahoma state government, overseeing public library development, statewide resource sharing, and programs such as literacy initiatives. The agency ensures every Oklahoman has access to innovative, high-quality library and information resources while fostering literacy skills essential for success in the workforce, educational attainment, active participation in democracy, and the achievement of individual life goals

Health Literacy Grants

Public libraries and literacy organizations play an important role in helping Oklahomans access reliable health information and wellness resources. The FFY26 Health Literacy Grant supports projects that encourage healthy living, improve health literacy, and promote community wellness.

Administered by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, this Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA)-funded grant supports Story Trails, fitness and wellness activities, healthy eating programs, information sharing, and other innovative health literacy projects.

Health Literacy

To help build thriving communities, ODL offers opportunities to develop personal and organizational health literacy. As trusted community anchor institutions, libraries are vital in supporting the community’s abilities to access, to understand, and to utilize health information, which directly impacts health outcomes.

Health Literacy Grant

ODL's Health Literacy grant provides libraries and literacy organizations across the state opportunities to develop and sustain programming that encourages healthy behaviors and information-gathering for members of their communities. Through funded programs, participants can increase their physical activity, grow and prepare healthy meals, learn about various health topics, and more--the possibilities are as numerous as local librarians' imaginations are wide!

The Oklahoma Initiative Fund Grant, offered by the Communities Foundation of Oklahoma, aims to strengthen rural communities through funding of up to $15,000. Eligible organizations include 501c3 nonprofits serving populations of 50,000 or less, focusing on areas such as literacy, health services, and food insecurity. Preference is given to community-based organizations within these eligible areas, fostering impactful connections between philanthropists and local needs.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation offers over 250 scholarships for undergraduate students pursuing dietetics. Applicants complete a single application to be considered for multiple scholarships ranging from $500 to $25,000. Eligibility includes enrollment in an ACEND-accredited program and various special criteria. This initiative supports students from diverse backgrounds, encouraging future professionals in nutrition and dietetics. Membership in the Academy is recommended but not mandatory for application.

The Oklahoma Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) offers technical and financial aid to farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners to enhance conservation efforts. This program addresses critical natural resource issues, promoting improved water and air quality, soil health, and wildlife habitat. EQIP aims to integrate conservation into agricultural practices, making it feasible for producers to adopt climate-smart practices and improve overall sustainability while receiving financial assistance. Applications are accepted year-round for future funding cycles.

The OK Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) offers year-round applications and aims to enhance conservation efforts on working lands. By providing technical and financial assistance, CSP helps producers improve grazing conditions, increase crop resilience, and develop wildlife habitats. Participants benefit from annual payments for implementing conservation practices and can receive higher rates through bundled enhancements. This program is vital for fostering environmental sustainability and improving agricultural operations across the United States.

The OK Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) offers Wetland Reserve Easements (WRE) to help private and tribal landowners restore and protect degraded wetlands. NRCS provides financial assistance for permanent and temporary easements, covering restoration costs and recording fees. This initiative enhances wildlife habitats, improves water quality, and supports biodiversity. Eligible landowners must meet specific income limitations and ensure compliance with conservation provisions. Applications are accepted year-round, with a focus on projects that benefit migratory birds and other wildlife.

The OK Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) supports landowners and organizations in preserving wetlands, grasslands, and agricultural lands through conservation easements. With NRCS funding, eligible partners can receive financial assistance to protect agricultural land and its conservation values. This program has successfully safeguarded over 4.4 million acres, enhancing soil health, water quality, and wildlife habitats while promoting sustainable farming practices and limiting non-agricultural land use.

Eligibility includes enrollment in accredited programs and other criteria such as experience in education or dietetics. Membership in the Academy is encouraged, although not required, for most scholarships.

This initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding of environmental conservation among Oklahoma's youth.

The Oklahoma Agriculture Enhancement and Diversification Program offers grants to support agricultural events that enhance public interest in farming. Funded by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, these grants aim to foster economic growth and participation in agriculture across the state. Eligible applicants must be 21 or older and residents of Oklahoma, with a focus on innovative projects that demonstrate economic impact and community engagement.

The OK Specialty Crop Block Grant, administered by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, aims to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops through projects that benefit both domestic and foreign markets. Funding is based on specialty crop acreage and production value. Eligible initiatives include pest control, food safety enhancements, and market development, all designed to promote sustainable agriculture and measurable outcomes for Oklahoma's agricultural sector.

Kansas Association of Independent Crop Consultants Scholarship Fund

The Kansas Association of Independent Crop Consultants created this scholarship fund to award to a qualified individual majoring in an agricultural field.

Friends of NRA

Friends of NRA is the National Rifle Association’s premier fundraising program, supporting the future of shooting sports. Since day one, Friends of NRA has been a 100% grassroots effort fueled by a united front to secure the Second Amendment and raise money for the shooting sports.

Committee volunteers are appointed to State Fund Committees to make recommendations for local grant funding in areas such as youth education, women-focused clinics, law enforcement training, hunter safety, range improvement, firearms and marksmanship training and safety. Recognizing the impact American youth has on the future of the shooting sports, State Fund Committees frequently recommend grants for youth programs, allocating the most significant portion of monies to this vital area.

Grant awards fund activities and support programs in the United States to promote firearms and hunting safety, to enhance marksmanship skills of those in the shooting sports, and to educate the public about firearms in their historic, technological and artistic context.

Friends of NRA State Fund Grant Program - Oklahoma

The Friends of NRA State Fund Grant Program provides supplies, equipment, and financial support to a variety of qualified groups and programs at the local level; geared towards youth, women, law enforcement, veterans, the disabled, and the general public, including:

• General shooting programs
• Competitive shooting
• Education, training and safety
• Hunting and conservation
• Community outreach
• Historical education

Grant funding must be used to further a charitable purpose as defined by the Internal Revenue Code under section 501(c)(3) and accompanying rules, regulations, and other IRS law and materials.

Project Lead The Way (PLTW) offers grants for schools to implement the PLTW Computer Science program from 2025 to 2028. Schools must provide at least one PLTW course in the first year and two courses in the second year. The total grant is $14,000, covering participation fees and training costs. Eligible institutions include public, private, and charter schools located in the U.S., with special encouragement for those serving low-income or minority-majority populations.

Project Lead The Way is offering a rolling grant opportunity for schools to implement the PLTW Engineering program for the 2025-2026 academic year and beyond. Eligible institutions include public, private, and charter schools located in the US. Grant recipients will receive funding to cover participation fees and training costs. Total funding amounts to $16,000, distributed over three years. Schools are encouraged to create pathways for students in engineering through this initiative.

The Civil Money Penalty Fund Program, established by the Oklahoma State Department of Health, aims to enhance the quality of care in nursing facilities through projects funded by penalties collected from non-compliant nursing homes. This program supports various evidence-based practices and initiatives that focus on improving residents' health and wellbeing. Eligible organizations, including skilled nursing facilities, can apply for funding to implement innovative solutions that promote quality of life for nursing home residents.

The Royalty Fields Grant Program, presented by the Kansas City Royals Foundation, supports the enhancement of youth baseball and softball facilities across the Midwest. This initiative offers matching grants for major renovations, including essential upgrades such as new sod, infields, fencing, and dugouts. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) organizations or local government entities that can demonstrate secured funding. Grants aim to foster safe and improved playing conditions for youth athletes.

The Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence: Development Phase (COBRE-D) program aims to enhance biomedical research capacity in IDeA states, which historically receive low NIH funding. By providing critical support for early-career investigators and essential infrastructure, COBRE-D facilitates a long-term vision for institutions. This initiative not only supplements start-up packages for new hires but also establishes research facilities and improves administrative services, paving the way for less-resourced institutions to transition into the COBRE E/S program.

RBC Foundation – USA aims to enhance community quality of life by supporting non-profit organizations that promote diversity and positive change. In 2023, it awarded over $2.8 million in grants, prioritizing youth programs for ages 15-29, arts access for diverse populations, and mental well-being initiatives. The foundation encourages sustainable projects that foster economic independence, providing critical support for education, mental health, and cultural enrichment, thereby making a significant impact across various communities.

The Preschool Development Grant Birth Through Five (PDG B-5) SMART Grant aims to enhance early care and education systems in the U.S. by supporting targeted investments in technology and data analytics. This initiative, led by the Administration for Children and Families, encourages states to improve program quality, family choice, and data-driven decision-making for children from birth to five years old. The funding is designed to create measurable outcomes and strengthen coordination within the mixed-delivery system.

Nature's Path's Gardens for Good program empowers communities by funding organic gardens that address food insecurity. Since 2010, it has donated $930,000 CAD to support 120 gardens. In 2023, grants of $6,500 each will be awarded to 20 gardens across the U.S. and Canada. Eligible applicants must be registered non-profits with urban organic agriculture projects that serve low-income communities, promoting sustainable practices and inclusivity.

BOK Charitable Contributions aims to enhance community life and economic wellbeing across several states, focusing on four key pillars: United Way, economic development, education, and basic needs. The foundation supports organizations that address poverty, education, and community health. Their strategic approach ensures impactful contributions, and they welcome grant applications year-round. BOK Financial's commitment is evident in its partnerships with local nonprofits, fostering sustainable growth and development in the regions they serve.

THRIVE Grants provide up to $10,000 to support innovative, artist-led visual arts projects in Oklahoma. These grants encourage impactful initiatives that engage the community and push traditional exhibition boundaries. Projects must be open to the public and occur within the funding period. The program, in partnership with The Andy Warhol Foundation, emphasizes collaboration and creativity, prioritizing new projects that have not previously received funding.

The National Trust Preservation Funds provide grants ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 to support local preservation projects and ongoing work. These funds aim to enhance community engagement in preservation, foster technical expertise, and stimulate financial participation from the private sector. Eligible applicants include public agencies and nonprofit organizations focused on planning and education efforts related to preservation. The program is particularly interested in initiatives that reach new audiences and further the preservation movement.

Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS)

The MNRS originally began to provide a place for nurses to collaborate, and collaborate they did! Over time, the founding members began to realize the benefits of having an organization dedicated specifically to nursing research. With some careful attention and a lot of hard work, we have grown into the organization it is today. We're a society where scientists, innovators, and drivers of clinical practice across the career trajectory, come together to share ideas and grow our field through innovative research.

The mission of the MNRS is to generate knowledge, translate evidence into practice, and enhance careers through collaborative engagement, implementation, and dissemination among diverse scholars. Our Vision to be the premier society that advances science, fosters leadership, and drives dissemination to improve health equity for all people.

The Excellence in Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Award

The purpose of the Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award is to recognize the contribution of a member who has demonstrated outstanding commitment and made significant contributions to advance equitable health outcomes and reduce health disparities through research, which has enhanced the science and practice of nursing in the MNRS region.
