Community Foundation of Henderson County's Scholarship Program began in 1984. Thanks to the generosity of passionate donors, over 2,000 traditional and non-traditional students have been provided more than $10 million in scholarships to pursue higher education.

Pisgah Chapter of Trout Unlimited William L. Arbuckle Memorial Scholarship

Recipients of this award must be accepted to an accredited degree granting college or university within the Southern Appalachian Region. Recipients must be pursuing an undergraduate and/or graduate degree in the field of fisheries, aquaculture, freshwater biology, or other related fields. 

The Austin E. Knowlton Foundation Grant, established in 1981, provides financial support to students pursuing higher education in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. The Poetry Out Loud Grant, offered by the Kentucky Arts Council, supports high school students in grades 9-12 as they engage in poetry memorization and performance. 2027 Pathways to Prevention: Community Health Engagement and Care Kit (CHECK) Grant

Overview:

This grant is made possible by funding from the Grants to States program administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the Catalyst Fund Grant provided by Lyrasis. This grant aligns with KDLA's Five-Year Plan (2023-2027) to enhance the knowledge and skills of public library staff and support the information needs of all Kentuckians by providing access to resources. 

Goal of the project:

To assist public libraries in supporting health programming and services in their communities. Grant funding can be used to create health kits, purchase technology for telehealth services, and for health-related programming.

Award Information

All grant recipients will receive a laptop for telehealth purposes. KDLA will purchase and deliver the computer to grant recipients.

2027 Website and Technology Grant

Overview

This grant is made possible by KDLA’s funding from the Grants to States program administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). Projects must support the information needs of all Kentuckians by providing access to resources as identified in the 2023-2027 LSTA 5-Year Plan. 

Goals

To support initiatives to update library websites to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and offer current technology. All project activities and funds must be spent by August 31, 2027.

Professional biologists conducting research and presenting at the Association of Southeastern Biologists annual meeting can apply for this US $1,000 research award. Eligible ASB members in Kentucky and other Southeastern states may benefit if their work in biology supports broader educational or youth-focused programming connected to their institutions or communities.

The Kentucky Social Welfare Foundation Grant supports non-profit organizations serving Kentucky residents, focusing on enhancing social welfare for those facing economic hardships. Established in 1948, it prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion while targeting rural areas and communities in need. Grants are awarded for program expansion or new initiatives that promote self-help and training. Eligible applicants must be IRS-approved charitable organizations based in Kentucky, ensuring their projects align with the foundation's core values.

The Queer Mobilization Fund (QMF) supports community-led projects that advance Queer and Trans liberation, particularly for BIPOC individuals in the Southeastern US. Established in 2016, QMF prioritizes grassroots organizations with budgets under $300,000. The fund emphasizes rapid response funding and capacity building, aiming to empower marginalized communities often excluded from financial support. QMF does not fund groups outside the Southeast or for-profit activities, ensuring resources are directed towards those leading efforts for LGBTQ+ rights.

Gerstbrein/McCanna Scholarship for the Arts

After a long and rewarding career in Landscape Design and Art Education, Lisa Gerstbrein/McCanna wanted to promote the Arts and Industrial Arts in the community where she made her home and her livelihood. Her career brought her tremendous joy in pursuits that she loved as well as the satisfying reward of helping students find inspiration in the worlds of Art and Industrial Art. She is a true believer in the concept of STEAM based education. Accordingly, she established a fund to provide scholarships for the advanced education of advancing Senior High School Students in these areas who are residents of Armstrong County, Pennsylvania and are pursuing higher education in an approved program within 300 miles of their respective school - Armstrong High School, West Shamokin High School or Lenape Technical School.

The Ritton Family Foundation, along with Par Mar Stores, offers the Par Mar Stores Scholarship Program to support students pursuing higher education. This initiative awards multiple scholarships annually to eligible high school seniors and undergraduate students residing in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, or Kentucky. Recipients are chosen based on academic achievement, community involvement, and financial need, with opportunities for reapplication each year.

The KOHC: Oral History Grants - Technical Assistance Grants, administered by the Kentucky Historical Society, provide essential resources for local oral history projects. These grants offer audio recording equipment, training, and support to individuals and organizations with limited experience. Since 1976, KOHC has awarded over $1 million, facilitating the collection of 35,000 interviews that capture Kentucky’s rich history. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, with award notifications issued within 60 days.

The Kentucky Oral History Commission (KOHC) provides grants to support oral history projects that preserve and document Kentucky's rich history. These grants include Project Grants for creating research projects, Transcription and Indexing Grants for existing interviews, and Presentation Grants for showcasing oral histories through various media. Funding amounts range from $2,500 to $7,500 depending on the grant type. These initiatives aim to foster participation and ensure the preservation of significant narratives across the state.

The Burt Monroe, Jr., Avian Research Fund, established in honor of Dr. Burt L. Monroe, Jr., provides financial support for basic scientific research on birds in Kentucky. Grants of up to $5,000 are available for KOS members, with a two-year approval period. Matching funds from other sources are encouraged. The fund aims to promote avian research within the Commonwealth, while ensuring that administrative costs are not covered, and projects receiving support from other funds in the same year are disqualified.

The Anne L. Stamm Avian Education Fund Grant supports projects that educate young people about Kentucky's birds, honoring Anne L. Stamm's legacy. Open to applicants in Kentucky aged 21 and over, it prioritizes KOS members and teachers. Grants up to $5000 are available to foster interest in bird watching and conservation among children, ensuring the continuation of efforts to protect avifauna in the region.
