Madison Railroad Scholarship in Memory of Robert Griffin

Criteria evaluated:

• Academic achievement (with focus on technical/vocational courses) and letters of recommendation

Required materials:

• 2 letters of recommendation (one from a technical/vocational teacher, and one from a source outside of the school system - i.e. employer, 4-H leader, pastor, etc.), and
• a paragraph describing the program or course of study the student plans to pursue

Scholarship amount:

• $1,000 | 1 scholarship

Virginia Hannah Brown Scholarship

The purpose of the Fund shall be to provide scholarships to graduating seniors from Tazewell High School located in Tazewell, Virginia, or from Richlands High School in Richlands, Virginia, who are furthering their education at any accredited two or four year college, university and/or technical school. The scholarship is primarily intended to provide financial assistance to students who have potential, but who may not otherwise qualify for other academic or athletic scholarships because of GPA or lack of involvement in extracurricular activities.

Scholarships will be sent directly to the school and will be made co-payable to the school and the student.

Scholarship amount is $3,000 per year, paid as $1,500 each semester upon meeting renewal criteria.

Each scholarship is renewable for up to four (4) years if the student remains enrolled in an accredited college, university or technical school; completes fifteen (15) credit hours each semester; and maintains a 3.0 GPA.

Kiwanis Club Scholarship in Memory of John Hawk

GWCF: Esler Family Foundation Inspiring Generosity Match Fund

The Esler family, founders of the Esler Family Foundation, have committed $1 million over two years to the Inspiring Generosity Match Fund, which will be hosted at the community foundation as a donor advised fund. 

The Inspiring Generosity Match Fund was developed to provide general operating, program, project, or capital project support to nonprofits doing critical work in Worcester County while also providing an incentive to organizations and donors to double their impact with a dollar-for-dollar match. The Esler family believes that matching grants help organizations reach their goals faster, create opportunities to build new relationships, and create a broader and more sustainable community of support.

We invest in organizations working to build equitable and dynamic futures for young people (up to 24 years old), prioritizing organizations that:

• Support students' academic and personal growth
• Deliver job readiness and life skills programming to prepare and empower young people (up to 24 years old)
• Provide post-secondary opportunities

Economic Mobility

We support organizations focused on helping individuals and families to build livelihoods, improve their quality of life, and contribute to a vibrant economy, prioritizing organizations that:

• Deliver job readiness skills programming including ESOL and career training
• Foster and empower entrepreneurship
• Provide support and resources around financial literacy

Scope & Selection Criteria

• The grant size for this program is $10,000 - $25,000.
• Requests can be for general operating, program, project, or capital project support.
• Grantees will be assessed in the following areas:
  • Alignment with at least one of the above areas of support
  • Organizations with roots in Worcester County and proven impact for residents
  • Plan for leveraging matching requirement to meet new donors and deepen engagement with existing donors

Match Requirement

Grantees will receive 50% of the grant up front. The remaining portion of funds raised will be disbursed at the end of the grant period.

Grantees will have until 12/31/2026 to raise their match. Funds raised in the 2026 calendar year can count towards the match requirement.

Dave Smith Scholarship Fund

The Dave Smith Scholarship Fund benefits graduating seniors who attend public high schools in Napa County and Napa Valley College students who plan to pursue an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, computer science or music at a community college or four-year college/university. Recipients will receive funding for up to four years of undergraduate study.

The Radiology Resident Research Grant, funded by The Society of Interventional Radiology Foundation, aims to promote research among residents in accredited clinical radiology training programs in the U.S. and Canada. With a budget of up to $20,000 for 12 months, this grant encourages innovative research projects that advance interventional radiology and improve patient care. Eligible applicants must designate a project advisor and secure a three-month commitment from their residency program, fostering a supportive research environment.

The Irv and Irene Boersen Scholarship supports students from the Regional Synod of the Great Lakes pursuing a Master of Divinity at Western Theological Seminary. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and submit a FAFSA summary page. This renewable scholarship aims to cultivate future pastors and is awarded based on recommendations. It promotes educational access and community involvement, fostering a thriving environment in the Holland/Zeeland area.

The Edward Payson and Bernice Piilani Irwin Scholarship honors Bernice Pi'ilani Irwin, a notable figure in Hawaiian journalism. Open to undergraduate and graduate students residing in Hawaii, the scholarship aims to support those pursuing careers in journalism or communications. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75 while attending an accredited U.S. college or university. This scholarship is an excellent opportunity for aspiring journalists to follow in Bernice's footsteps.

The PCC Rapid Response Grants provide support for cultural initiatives that aim to shape narratives during critical cultural moments. These grants prioritize projects that engage communities of color, immigrants, refugees, and other marginalized groups, focusing on intersectionality, gender justice, and social equity. Eligible projects include pop culture campaigns, research, and public spectacles that respond to urgent political and cultural events, aiming to reach mass audiences and disrupt harmful narratives.

The Bayer Fund: Food & Nutrition Grant supports high-quality programs that combat malnutrition and improve access to nutritious foods, particularly for underserved communities and families with young children. Eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) nonprofits and government units. The fund prioritizes long-term behavioral change towards healthy eating and nutrition, with grants typically not exceeding 25% of an organization's operating budget. International requests start at $25,000, fostering sustainable food security and education initiatives.

Dake Community Manufacturing Scholarship Fund

This fund was established in 2007 for the 120th Anniversary Celebration of Dake Corporation, a former local manufacturing company. It was started by employees and management to encourage and support students that want to further their education in manufacturing education. The Dake entrepreneurial spirit lives on through this scholarship by empowering the next generation.

The FY26 Bus Safety, Accessibility, and Innovation Notice of Funding Opportunity offers up to $10 million for innovative projects aimed at enhancing bus safety and accessibility. Administered by the Federal Transit Administration, this competitive grant invites applications for the development of concepts that improve safety for operators and vulnerable road users, ensuring that public transportation is safer and more accessible for all passengers.

The Foundation awards scholarships to high school seniors in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot Counties, who are planning to attend a college, university, or trade school. There is one scholarship that is available to students in Cecil County.

Barbara and Nicole Heacox Foreign Study & Travel Fund

Bob Heacox lost his wife, Barbara, to cancer in 1990. A few months later he lost his daughter, Nicole, in a tragic accident. At the time of her death, Nicole was a Grand Haven High School student. To help fill the void left by a wife and mother, daughter and sister, Bob and his son, Paul, established a unique Memorial Fund at the Foundation in 1992. While the majority of the Foundation's Scholarship Funds help current graduating high school seniors, the Barbara and Nicole Heacox Foreign Travel and Study Fund assists deserving students, of all ages, who might not otherwise have the opportunity to travel and study in a foreign country.

Fred W. Homann Jr. Research and Education Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to Marshall area residents or former graduates pursuing higher education in the health sciences with preference given to applicants with a particular interest in research/preventative medicine. Applicants must maintain a 3.0 GPA average in their previous year of education, whether it be high school or college, or postgraduate. Students who receive this scholarship are encouraged to apply for further support in subsequent years. 

The Leukemia Exploration and Prevention Grant Program (LEAP) aims to advance cancer interception and prevention strategies for patients with RUNX1 familial platelet disorder. This initiative, supported by the American Cancer Society, focuses on understanding the mechanisms behind leukemia development and fostering innovative research leading to effective treatment options. Grants of up to $215,000 per year for four years are available, emphasizing the urgent need for targeted therapies in high-risk populations.

The Leukemia Exploration and Prevention Grant Program (LEAP) aims to advance cancer interception and prevention for patients with RUNX1 familial platelet disorder (RUNX1-FPD). This program supports interdisciplinary research teams investigating the mechanisms of leukemogenesis and innovative treatment strategies. With funding of up to $430,000 per year, LEAP encourages projects focused on both understanding clonal evolution and developing novel therapeutic approaches. The Translational Research Grant supports cutting-edge clinical trials and therapeutic approaches, enhancing the journey from laboratory discoveries to patient care. This initiative underscores the urgent need for effective treatments, offering hope for children diagnosed with cancer and their families.

"Slipperman” Music Scholarship in Memory of Timothy J. Gilles

The “Slipperman” Music Scholarship in Memory of Timothy J. Gilles recognizes the hard-working graduates of Herkimer and Oneida counties pursuing their secondary education in a music-related field.

The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) offers the Emerging Investigator Fellowship Grant to support post-doctoral fellowships and clinical investigator training for promising pediatric cancer researchers. Applicants must have completed a minimum of two years in their fellowship or be within two years of their junior faculty role. The NIH is seeking innovative computational approaches to enhance the curation of biomedical research assets at scale.
