Ethnic Media Grants

Through the State of Minnesota’s 2025-2027 biennial legislation and the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund (Legacy), the Minnesota Humanities Center (MHC) will administer $472,500 for ethnic media grants to ethnic media organizations that work to create, celebrate, and teach the art, culture, and heritage of the many diverse cultural groups that make up Minnesota, including but not limited to Indigenous organizations, communities whose culture and heritage have been historically underrepresented, recent immigrant communities, and veterans.

The Legislature in providing this funding is seeking to fund ethnic media organizations throughout Minnesota to create video content in a language other than English.

An applicant that receives funding under this grant opportunity must do at least one of the following:

• Preserve and honor the cultural heritage of Minnesota,
• Provide education and student outreach in cultural diversity,
• Support the development of culturally diverse humanities programming, including arts programming, or
• Empower communities in building identity and culture, including preserving and honoring communities whose Indigenous cultures are endangered or disappearing.

The Partnership Fund Grant by the Bush Foundation is designed for unique funding needs that do not align with existing programs. MN Commercial Redevelopment Grants 

Commercial Redevelopment grants assist with the full and selective demolition of commercial and industrial buildings and the clean-up of brownfields to pave the way for new development. 

Full and selective demolition of commercial or industrial buildings and clean-up of brownfields. Abatement expenses are eligible and considered a component of the demolition project.

Funding Availability

• Funded at $1,000,000 for Fiscal Year 2026 from the Taconite Environmental Protection Fund.
• The number of grants awarded is variable and dependent upon the amount awarded to successful applicants.
• A 1:1 match per project is required.
• In-kind materials and/or labor are not eligible toward the project match.
• Applications should be submitted within nine months of the project construction start date.
• Multi-organization collaboration is welcomed.

Local Road Improvement Program

The Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP) was established by the Minnesota legislature in 2002 and is defined in Minnesota Statute 174.52. The legislature appropriated $50,000,000 in general obligation (GO) bonds (of which $3,000,000 is designated for grants to townships) in Laws of Minnesota 2026 Session, Chapter 130, Article 1, Section 16, Subdivision 2. Depending on the number and quality of applications received, projects will be selected from this program for counties, state aid cities, non-state aid cities, and townships for the 2026 LRIP solicitation.

The LRIP provides funding for capital construction costs only – LRIP funds cannot be used for engineering, right-of-way, construction administration or other non-construction related costs. The statute describes three types of accounts with a specific intent for the types of local road projects that can be considered for the program. 

The program’s goal is to provide funding assistance for roadway construction, reconstruction, or reconditioning projects.

Funding Availability

The competitive 2026 LRIP appropriation provides $50,000,000 in general obligation (GO) bond funding. Grant requests must range from a minimum of $50,000 to a maximum of $1,500,000 per project. Tribes are eligible to receive general funds only and are encouraged to partner with local entities on project

The Fred C. & Katherine B. Andersen Foundation Grant focuses on enhancing the quality of life in the St. Croix Valley of Minnesota and Wisconsin. It supports 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations with priorities in healthcare, education, housing, human services, civic initiatives, and environmental education. While capital requests may be considered, the foundation primarily funds operational and programmatic needs. Organizations outside the geographic area may be considered if they align with the foundation's funding priorities.

The Livable Communities Development Grants, funded by the Metropolitan Council, aim to enhance housing and job opportunities in Minneapolis. The City will accept sponsorship applications starting in December, requiring a $750 application fee. Up to eight projects may be recommended for funding in the 2026 program year, with a focus on readiness and alignment with city plans. Grant funds will be available only after the Metropolitan Council's approval and can reimburse developers for eligible costs.

The Best Life Community Awards, funded by Altra Foundation Inc, invites nominations for nonprofit organizations that have made a significant impact in their communities. Altra members can nominate eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofits they support with their time, talents, or financial contributions.
