Minnesota Department of Health
Mission: Protecting, maintaining and improving the health of all Minnesotans.
Vision: The vision of MDH is for health equity in Minnesota, where all communities are thriving and all people have what they need to be healthy.
Noncommunity Transient Grant (Source Water Protection)
Noncommunity transient systems are defined as public water systems (PWS) that regularly serve an average of at least 25 individuals daily at least 60 days out of the year, but do not serve the same 25 people over that period of time. SWP activities that are funded under this grant program must support measures that address a potential contamination source that presents a high risk to a source of drinking water as determined by MDH.
The fundamental goals of SWP are to prevent contamination from entering sources of public drinking water at levels that present a risk to people; and to provide long term, sustainable management of drinking water sources. SWP applies to all types of public water systems and is based on requirements in the federal Safe Drinking Water Act and authorities granted to MDH by the state legislature.
This is a reimbursement grant. The PWS will be reimbursed once the project work item activities and the grant reporting requirements have been successfully met and MDH is satisfied that the project has been completed according to the terms of the grant agreement.
Minnesota Department of Health
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is the state agency responsible for protecting, maintaining, and improving the health of all people in Minnesota. MDH works to make Minnesota a better place for everyone to live, work, and play.
Minnesota’s public health system is known as one of the best in the nation. It’s built upon a strong partnership between MDH, local public health agencies, Tribal governments, and other organizations. MDH has more than 2,000 employees. The agency attracts and retains a diverse, skilled workforce with a supportive culture and a passion for helping people in Minnesota at its core.
Rural Family Medicine Residency Grant
Minnesota Statutes Sec. 144.1912 authorizes the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) Office of Rural Health and Primary Care (ORHPC) to award grants to existing, eligible, not-for profit family medicine residency programs to support current and new residency positions, with priority given to new positions. The Minnesota Legislature created the Rural Family Medicine Residency Grant Program for programs located in rural areas and focused on training family medicine physicians to serve in rural areas, with a track record of placing graduates in rural Minnesota communities. The Rural Family Medicine Residency Grant Program addresses the shortage of primary care physicians in rural areas of Minnesota by supporting opportunities for family medicine residents to practice in these settings. Expanding training opportunities in rural-focused programs gives residents experience and connections that encourage them to remain in rural practice.
Eligible applicants are located in Minnesota, outside the 7-county metropolitan area (defined in Minnesota Statutes Sec. 473.121, subdivision 4 as Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington counties).

Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA)
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has served our state for more than 125 years. The work we do touches every Minnesota citizen every day. Our mission is to enhance all Minnesotans’ quality of life by equitably ensuring the integrity of our food supply, the health of our environment, and the strength and resilience of our agricultural economy.
Our three general areas of responsibility include: protecting our food supply; protecting our natural resources; and, cultivating our agricultural economy.
Agricultural Growth, Research, and Innovation (AGRI) Works Grant Program
MDA is now accepting applications from nonprofit organizations, units of governments, and most colleges and universities for the Fiscal Year 2027 for Agricultural Growth, Research, and Innovation (AGRI) Works Grant Program. The Minnesota Legislature established the AGRI Works to provide regional and statewide development, education, research, and marketing services that promote agriculture, horticulture, and rural communities. Projects must provide regional or statewide services. Project examples include but are not limited to:
Green Partners Grant
Engage, educate, act and collaborate for the environment
Hennepin County provides funding and support to organizations to actively educate, engage and motivate residents to become environmental stewards and make positive behavior changes.
Through the Green Partners program, Hennepin County contracts with organizations to implement projects that engage youth and adults in becoming environmental stewards. Projects engage youth in learning about environmental topics and taking leadership on environmental issues as they get older. Green Partners also supports projects to engage our adult residents in helping the county reach it’s zero waste and climate goals by preventing waste, composting organic waste, reducing, reusing, recycling, and repairing and caring for our natural resources by improving water quality, caring for trees, and creating habitat to protect birds, bats, and pollinators.
Types of Grants
Hennepin County has three Green Partners programs.
Youth Environmental Leadership Program
Youth environmental leadership projects encourage environmental leadership and/or exposure to green jobs for young people in high school up to age 24, (collectively, the “Project”). Project activities should encourage an environmental stewardship mindset that lasts beyond the program. Projects may provide opportunities for youth leadership in their school or community and exposure to green jobs or investigation into the green aspects of jobs they are interested in pursuing. Climate change projects related to zero waste and protecting natural resources are priorities for this program. Preferred projects incorporate county identified project ideas.
