The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region

The Community Foundation is a devoted advocate for the vitality and well-being of the Rappahannock River Region. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that manages and distributes charitable giving in the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and Caroline, and the City of Fredericksburg.

Scholarships

One of The Community Foundation’s strategies for preserving and growing the quality of life in our region is supporting higher education for area students. Generous individuals and families, companies and organizations establish endowed scholarship funds and the proceeds from these funds benefit deserving students. Donors work with foundation staff to determine appropriate criteria for each fund. The Community Foundation currently administers more than fifty scholarship funds.

The Martha S. Daltan Scholarship Fund

The Martha S. Daltan Scholarship Fund was established by Martha’s husband, Gerry, and children, Ashley and Michael. 

Ava’s Grace Scholarship, founded in 2010, provides vital educational support to students with incarcerated parents or caregivers in Missouri and parts of Illinois. Offering scholarships up to $5,000 annually, it renews through graduation. This initiative promotes hope and community, transforming lives through education. Eligible applicants must demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, while also planning to pursue an accredited degree. This program, part of The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis, aims to foster a brighter future.

The Marilyn and Morton Werner Egality Scholarship Fund honors the legacy of its namesakes by supporting students committed to civic engagement and systemic change. Open to residents of the St. Louis metropolitan area, this scholarship prioritizes individuals with a proven record of leadership and community involvement. Award amounts reach up to $10,000 annually for graduate students and $6,000 for undergraduates, with funding available for up to five years. The Reverend Elie Collier Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Rev. Elie Collier, who founded an auto body business and a church dedicated to community service. Established to support students from the St. Louis area, this scholarship offers grants up to $4,500 for vocational training. It aims to empower individuals through education, ensuring they have the tools needed for career success.
