We help strengthen our local communities by providing grants to organizations that are vital to the well-being, growth and prosperity of the places where we live and work. The Foundation was established to provide grants to eligible 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations in five primary areas:

The Foundation Grants Committee meets once a year to review requests. Awards are made to eligible 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. Any organization interested in being considered should review the Foundation Guidelines and Instructions listed on the grant request form.

The PLTW Launch program, in collaboration with Burns and McDonnell, aims to enhance STEM education by expanding access to innovative educational modules in eligible schools. Nonprofit Animal Shelter Grants

Flexible funding for any nonprofit animal shelter serving Greater New Haven. 

The Community Foundation's animal shelter grants are made possible by The Lillian and Henry A. Konopacke Fund. The fund was created in 2013 by the bequest of New Haven native and North Haven resident Henry Konopacke, who worked as a machinist at the Winchester Repeating Arms Factory. Other funds contributing to Animal Shelter grants include the Baxter Fund, Judith Corchard Fund and Diva Fund. 

Purpose

The Fund’s intent is to assist nonprofit animal shelters in the Greater New Haven area in performing the services for which they have been established. 

Available Grant types

• New or existing projects
• Capacity building assistance to strengthen the infrastructure of an organization for long term success. Examples include board development, strategic planning, evaluation and capital expenditures in equipment, technology, building renovations or relocation.

Funding 

Grants are available in amounts up to $10,000. 

Multi-Year Core Support

Core Support (general operating support) is for organizations based in and serving Greater New Haven and/or the Valley; organizations must have had active programming for 3 years and a budget last fiscal year of >$250,000. 

General Operating Support is defined as a grant made to further the general mission and work of an organization, rather than for a specific purpose or project. General Operating Support gives nonprofits flexibility to direct their spending where it is needed most and allows greater focus on achieving an organization’s mission. 

The PLTW Gateway program, in partnership with Burns and McDonnell, aims to enhance STEM education by supporting schools in eligible counties to implement PLTW Gateway units. With a total grant of $20,000, schools are encouraged to offer at least one unit per academic year, fostering real-world skills and engagement in STEM fields. This initiative seeks to increase access and participation in high-quality STEM learning experiences, ultimately preparing students for future careers.

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation focuses on supporting organizations that empower communities through basic needs, income creation, and stable housing. By investing in health and job opportunities, they aim to enhance economic mobility for low- and moderate-income families. Grants around Approximately US $50,000 can fund art exhibitions, exhibition spaces, arts programming, and fine art educational activities that foster arts, culture, and humanities in the Greater New Haven community.

The VCF: Responsive General Operating Support Grants provide flexible funding to nonprofits in the Greater New Haven region.
