Innovation for Affordable Building Electrification (PON 6162)

Description

This funding targets the commercialization of affordable innovative solutions that can rapidly scale to enable electrification, reduce peak loads, and improve efficiency of the building stock in New York. NYSERDA seeks projects at committed New York State site(s) that address one of the following Innovation Topic Areas:

• Energy Efficiency
• Electrification
• Load Management

NYSERDA has no predefined funding amount or number of awards based on topic area. Eligible solutions must show strong potential to advance one or more aspects of NYSERDA’s core mission in the buildings sector in New York State through reducing GHG emissions, improving energy efficiency, increasing affordability, and/or resiliency in existing buildings in the residential, multifamily, and small/medium commercial market.

Russell Sage Foundation

One of the oldest American foundations, the Russell Sage Foundation, was established by Mrs. Margaret Olivia Sage in 1907 for “the improvement of social and living conditions in the United States.” In its early years, the foundation undertook major projects in low-income housing, urban planning, social work, and labor reform. The foundation now dedicates itself to strengthening the methods, data, and theories of the social sciences to diagnose social problems and improve social policies. It also funds researchers at other institutions and supports programs intended to develop new generations of social scientists.

What We Do

The Russell Sage Foundation is an operating foundation directly involved in the conduct and dissemination of social science research. In its effort to improve the social effectiveness of social research, the foundation

• Invites individual scholars and collaborative groups working in areas of foundation interest to participate in the foundation’s Visiting Scholar Program to pursue their research and writing projects;
• Provides support for scholars at other institutions to pursue research projects that advance the Foundation’s research programs;
• Ensures widespread access to the research that the foundation supports through its own book and journal publishing program;
• Sponsors special seminars and working groups aimed at developing new topics in social science;
• Participates in the planning of each study or program as an active partner and reserves the right to publish any resulting manuscripts;
• Collaborates with other foundations, granting agencies and academic institutions in studies of social problems.

Visiting Researchers Program

On an occasional basis, the Foundation has one or two available office spaces and considers applications for short-term residential fellowships from scholars who are conducting research relevant to the Foundation’s priority areas. These positions do not come with any Foundation financial support and are available for visits up to five months, between September 1 and June 30, as space permits. In rare circumstances, visits up to ten months may be considered. 

Visiting Researchers are provided with an office at the foundation, a computer and software, access to research materials including online journals and databases.

The Visiting Researcher award does not provide any salary or other financial support. Visiting Researchers who reside outside the greater New York City area are provided with a partially subsidized apartment near the Foundation offices if available.

Proposals should outline the basics of the project to be carried out while in residence, how the project is relevant to RSF's program areas, how the residency and interactions with the Foundation's Visiting Scholars and staff would be beneficial to the project, and the expected outcome of the work. The letter should also specify the time period for which the applicant would like to be in residence.

Research Priorities

RSF supports high-quality innovative research under four core research priorities:

Visiting Researcher programs consider investigator-initiated projects across all RSF research priorities.

KeyBank's Community Grants support tax-exempt organizations that align with the Foundation's funding priorities, focusing on improving community well-being. With grants ranging from $10,000 to $25,000, eligible organizations must have an operating budget of at least $100,000 and a minimum of three years in operation. The application process is invitation-only, requiring interested organizations to submit an Expression of Interest for review, typically receiving feedback within 90 days.

Key Bank Philanthropic Support - Community Sponsorships aims to enhance community welfare by providing financial backing to nonprofit organizations. With grants ranging from $500 to $5,000, these sponsorships focus on fundraising events and operational support for initiatives that foster economic inclusion and community growth. Office of Children and Family Services

OCFS is dedicated to improving the integration of services for New York’s children, youth, families and vulnerable populations; to promoting their development; and to protecting them from violence, neglect, abuse and abandonment. The agency provides a system of family support, juvenile justice, youth development, child care and child welfare services that promote the safety and well-being of children and adults. Harold Balazs Creating Wonder Scholarship

The Creating Wonder Scholarship is for graduating high school seniors in Spokane County who are planning to attend a post-high school program at full-time status. Applicants must pursue one of the following fields: Art, Art Education, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, Advertising, Marketing, Photography, Cinematography, Publishing or Graphic Arts. Samples of artwork are required for the scholarship program.

This is not intended for performing art students. Talent, discipline, commitment, passion, experience and ability to express through art are primary factors for consideration. Financial need and academic achievement are also considered. Previous recipients of this award are eligible to reapply.
