We manage one of the largest scholarship programs in our area, with over $1 million committed to students in over 500 new and renewed scholarships awarded each year.

JJohn E. and Bernice L. Sydnor Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of Bernice Sydnor, who established the John E. and Bernice L. Sydnor Memorial Scholarship of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. John E. Sydnor made community and education his lifetime passions. He served a long list of civic organizations, including the Community Foundation as a Trustee and supporter. His 38-year career as an educator has left a permanent mark of excellence on his community. The Foundation was one organization to which John chose to leave a contribution. The John E. Sydnor Memorial will present scholarships to African-American students graduating from Muskegon County high schools and attending an accredited college, university or technical/trade school. The youth and educators of John Sydnor's community will feel his strength forever, as this gift to Muskegon keeps John Sydnor's passion for education alive.

John and Ruth Schrier Hope College Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of Ruth and John Schrier, who established the John and Ruth Schrier Hope Scholarship of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. Ruth and John Schrier, Muskegon County residents, Hope College Alumni, and community volunteers, sought a way to share their positive educational and community experiences with others in Muskegon County. This desire to contribute manifested itself in the creation of the John and Ruth Schrier Scholarship. The John and Ruth Schrier Scholarship will encourage worthy Muskegon students to attend Hope College. To the credit of the Schriers’ remarkable generosity, countless community students will receive help in achieving their higher education goals.

The PLTW Launch - New Program grant, provided by the EQT Foundation, aims to support schools in implementing PLTW Launch programs for the upcoming academic year. Eligible public and charter schools in Greene and Fayette Counties, PA, and Marshall and Wetzel Counties, WV, can apply for funding to cover participation fees, required technology, and necessary training expenses. This initiative will enhance STEM education and prepare students for future careers.

The Madison Rotary Foundation's Student Veterans Assistance Fund supports veterans in need of financial aid for urgent living expenses. Established by generous donations, this fund assists eligible veterans, including those enrolled in local colleges, with housing, utilities, medical costs, and textbooks. Applicants must meet specific criteria, including residency and service requirements, to qualify for this one-time grant. This initiative honors the sacrifices of veterans and aims to ease their financial burdens during their educational pursuits.

The Latin Network for the Visual Arts Scholarship, established by Mimi and Gaston Daumy, supports New London County students pursuing degrees in fine arts. With an award amount of approximately $1,600, scholarships are paid directly to colleges by August 1. Preference is given to students with ancestral ties to Romance language countries, including French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, and Spanish. This initiative has been part of the Community Foundation's commitment to educational support since 1983.

Muskegon County Michigan State University Alumni Association Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of the Muskegon County MUS Alumni Association, which established the Muskegon County MUS Alumni Association Scholarship of the Muskegon County Community Foundation. This scholarship encourages Muskegon-area students who have graduated from Muskegon Community College to transfer to Michigan State University.

Margaret A. Wright Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of Margaret Wright, who established the Margaret A. Wright Scholarship of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. Margaret worked as a secretary for the Norge Corporation, the County of Muskegon and Muskegon Construction. She enjoyed sewing, ice skating and exercising at the Y. When she passed, she left a gift through her estate to create a scholarship fund that will support will support Muskegon County graduates that are pursuing a specific trade or skill.

Muskegon Eagles / Monsignor Kehren Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of the Muskegon Eagles, Chapter 668, and Monsignor Kehren, who established the Muskegon Eagles Monsignor Kehren Scholarship of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. Monsignor Kehren served St. Mary's Church in downtown Muskegon for many years. When he died, Chapter 668 of the Muskegon Eagles established this in his honor. The award is supported through an annual bowling tournament held by the Eagles. Thanks to their generosity, the spirit of Monsignor Kehren endures as part of the Muskegon community, granting the lasting gift of education to the youth of Muskegon County.

Indigo Hope Foundation: Veterans Support Services Grant

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of the Muskegon Surgical Associates, P.C., who established the Muskegon Surgical Associates Scholarship of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County. The doctors in this surgical group wanted to fulfill their corporate responsibility and contribute back to the community. This scholarship award is for medical school students.

The Aging Research Dissertation Awards aim to enhance diversity in the scientific workforce by funding research on aging and related health conditions. The program encourages applicants from underrepresented backgrounds to apply for dissertation awards that align with the National Institutes of Health's strategic priorities. Key deadlines for applications include February 16, June 16, and October 16 for the years 2024 through 2026.

The Mallove Family-William Pedace Scholarship, established by the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, offers $750 to support New London High School students with strong academic abilities. Since 1983, the foundation has awarded over $11.9 million in scholarships, helping students pursue their educational goals and build successful careers. This scholarship is designed to assist deserving individuals in achieving their dreams by providing financial aid for college expenses.

The Arts Fund for Region One, established in 1992, aims to enrich the artistic development of students in the six towns of Northwest Connecticut. Applicants must attend one of the designated universities and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above. The scholarship requires an essay detailing community service and work experience, promoting values of integrity, respect, and collaboration.

The Northwest Grain Growers Robert Abbey Memorial Scholarship, established by the Blue Mountain Community Foundation, supports graduating seniors from high schools within the NWGG service area. This scholarship is available to members, employees, and their children, fostering educational opportunities and community development. Since its inception in 1984, the foundation has played a crucial role in enhancing the region's charitable landscape, managing over $115 million in assets across more than 440 funds.

The Kevin Umlauf Foundation Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, provides a $750 scholarship to high school seniors or undergraduates from Christian or Greene County, Missouri. Eligible applicants must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher and demonstrate financial need through FAFSA-SAI. Participation in community service and school activities is required, along with an essay submission. This scholarship aims to support students pursuing their education at select institutions.

Drug Checking Technologies Program

The Division of Care and Treatment Services invites agencies currently participating in the DHS Naloxone Direct Program to apply to receive drug checking technologies at no cost for community distribution. The drug checking technologies available through this program include fentanyl test strips, fentanyl test strip kits, xylazine test strips, and xylazine test strip kits. 

Background

Drug checking technologies are an evidence-based method to prevent overdose deaths by educating people about the substances they are using.

Program overview

This DHS Drug Checking Technologies Program will provide:

• Test strips packaged in boxes of 100.
• Test strip kits individually packaged in a plastic zip bag with three fentanyl test strips or xylazine test strips, three mixing cups, three sterile waters, and three 10 mg scoops. 

The Aldo DeDominicis Scholarship Fund supports students who have received a Farmington UNICO scholarship, promoting educational opportunities for those who have demonstrated financial need and maintained a "B" average. Established in honor of Aldo DeDominicis, an immigrant who built a successful media career, the fund reflects his belief in sharing wealth to foster community growth. This initiative aims to empower young scholars in the Greater Hartford area, encouraging them to achieve their academic goals and contribute positively to society.

Foundation for MCC - Richard Kraft/Suzanne Kraft Mateer Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of Richard H. Kraft, who established the Richard Kraft/Suzanne Kraft Mateer Scholarship of the Foundation for Muskegon Community College. Richard graduated from Muskegon Community College in 1949 and then continued his education at Michigan State University obtaining an engineering degree. He started and operated a successful consulting and engineering firm in Flint. He believes that starting at Muskegon Community College was the best thing he ever did before continuing his education. This scholarship is presented to graduating seniors of Muskegon, Ottawa, Oceana and Newaygo County high schools who will be attending Muskegon Community College, then pursuing a degree at any accredited college or university.

The Karen and Cornel Raab Scholarship, administered by the Crown Point Community Foundation, offers financial support to graduating high school students from Crown Point, Cedar Lake, or Lowell with a minimum GPA of 2.8. This non-renewable scholarship aims to assist students in achieving their educational goals. The foundation oversees over 80 scholarship funds, ensuring resources are allocated to meet the diverse needs of the community.

The Slater Excellence in Teaching Award, offered by the Polk County Community Foundation, supports certified classroom teachers and media specialists in Polk County and Landrum. This program encourages professional growth by funding attendance at educational conferences and unique travel experiences related to their curriculum. The aim is to enhance classroom teaching through innovative learning opportunities. Eligible applicants must work directly with students and submit individual applications, ensuring impactful teaching practices in the local community.

The Tri Kappa Scholarship - Women's Giving Circle, established by the Crown Point Community Foundation, aims to enhance life quality in South Lake County by providing financial assistance for various community needs. This non-renewable scholarship is open to residents over 21, with the next awards ceremony scheduled for May 7, 2026. The initiative reflects a commitment to maximize charitable impact while honoring donor intentions.
