History of the Trust

The Hamilton Family Charitable Trust comprises two generations of the Hamilton family with a long history of philanthropy in the Philadelphia region. Since 1992, the family has been committed to improving educational opportunities for children and youth, a mission established by Dorrance (Dodo) Hamilton (1928–2017), mother and grandmother of the family Trustees. The family extended their philanthropic reach to Palm Beach County, FL and Aquidneck Island, RI in 2017. Program Focus

• Data-driven literacy-based programs focused on developing robust reading and writing skills with a strong history of success.
  • These can be programs that:
    • Take place during school hours, after school, or during the summer.
    • Take place across school systems, but the funding can support only nonsectarian programming including within a religious institution.
  • Grades K-8 programs should devote at least 70 percent of their time directly to instruction and activities in reading and writing.
  • Grades 9-12 programs should provide innovative approaches to students in under-resourced areas for success in higher education, from the college admission process and acceptance through to completion.
  • Youth workforce development programs that focus on quality career exploration and preparation initiatives.
  • Recreational programs with a strong academic component.

Things To Consider

• First-time grants: generally designated for program support. The Trust rarely funds new staff positions for initial grants.
• Continuing partners: generally made for either programmatic or operational support.
• Multi-year grants: requests are typically reserved for grantees with five (5) years or more of consecutive funding from the Trust. Multi-year grants require approval prior to application submission. Approval is generally communicated in response to the LOI.

South Arts Inc

Arts in Community Grants

Program Description

Arts in Community Grants are designed to support deeper engagements between Southern communities and artists. Through these grants supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, we aim to increase access to the arts, expand audiences for artists, and broaden our reach. Eligible projects require a Southern artist/company visiting another Southern state for public activities, offering access to arts programming by professional artists. Funding supports Southern film directors, traditional artists, visual artists, performing artists, or writers:

• film (documentary, fiction, experimental, and animation),
• traditional arts (music, dance, storytelling, and visual arts/crafts),
• visual arts (crafts, drawing, experimental, painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed media),
• performing arts (theater, music, opera, musical theater, and dance), and
• literary arts (fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry).

Projects require an artist or artist ensemble and a host or partner organization. Project must include at least two in-person or live, virtual public activities – both a public presentation (a film screening, performance, reading, or exhibition) and an educational/community engagement activity (a workshop, demonstration, lecture, facilitated discussion, or master class). The grant requires a dollar-for-dollar cash match.

The Direct Services Grant Program, initiated by the John T. Gorman Foundation, aims to support organizations addressing the basic needs of vulnerable Maine residents, including hunger, housing, and crisis support. Department of Health and Human Services 

The Department of Health and Human Services manages the delivery of health and human related services for all North Carolinians, especially our most vulnerable people – children, elderly, disabled and low-income families. The department works closely with health care professionals, community leaders and advocacy groups; local, state and federal entities; and many other stakeholders to make this happen.

Community Services Block Grant

The Community Services Block Grant is the sole source of federal funding for North Carolina’s Community Action Agencies that provide a wide range of services and programs to assist needy families with children. CSBG funding supports projects that:  

• Decrease poverty in communities.
• Address the needs of low-income individuals, including the homeless, migrants and the elderly.
• Provide services and activities addressing employment, education, better use of available income, housing, nutrition, emergency services and/or health.

The CSBG State Plan is required for North Carolina to receive CSBG block grant funds, and it describes major program provisions, eligible entities, training and technical assistance, and program benefits.

The Community Grants Program: East Hawaii Fund supports nonprofit organizations working to enhance the well-being of East Hawai‘i communities. It prioritizes projects that address educational opportunities, strengthen intergenerational relationships, promote economic sufficiency, and improve social conditions. The External Collaborative Research Grants by Boehringer Ingelheim support academic and clinical scientists in proposing research studies. Applicants must assume full responsibility for their research while complying with regulatory standards. The Fund for Omaha Grant, managed by the Omaha Community Foundation, aims to strengthen local nonprofits by addressing funding gaps and enhancing community services. Priorities include economic opportunity, affordable housing, maternal health, and mental health support. Eligible applicants are public, tax-exempt organizations serving the Omaha area with annual budgets of $5 million or less. This initiative fosters connections and improves community well-being by providing essential resources and opportunities.

About the Living Well Foundation

The Living Well Foundation is a non-profit public charity that was established upon the sale of a local public hospital in 2006. Its goals are to enhance the quality of life and health of the citizens of Ouachita Parish and the 7 surrounding parishes and to assist in collaborative and innovative networking within the region. The Living Well Foundation supports several projects in the northeast Louisiana area that seek to improve the medical, dental, and behavioral health of the population, especially kids.

Specific initiatives include dental hygiene clinics with the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) Department of Dental Hygiene, suicide prevention/intervention, dementia/Alzheimers cognitive deficit disorders, and school-based health centers with local school boards and medical providers, including federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) and others. Other projects that provide behavioral health support services on school campuses and in communities are supported with area non-profit agencies and clinical professionals.

Grant Information

Grants are typically awarded to non-profits whose projects address the following:

• Activities related to rendering care to the sick and injured or in the promotion of health;
• Activities designed and conducted to promote the general health of the community; and,
• Activities undertaken in cooperation with public or private institutions or agencies engaged in providing health services to residents of the District.

The Foundation favors making grants that meet one or more of the following criteria:

• The grant would help assure the continued existence or creation of accessible, affordable health care facilities or services in the District or the service area that are responsive to the needs of the community.
• The grant would support the provision of health care to the disadvantaged, the uninsured, and/or the underinsured.
• The grant would support the goal of improved health care or wellness to the service area.
• The project would include an education component within its goals for participant self-sufficiency or self-awareness over time.
• The project would have a plan of sustainability upon conclusion of Foundation funding.

NewYork-Presbyterian is dedicated to partnering with community-based organizations (CBOs) that provide impactful summer programs for youth and adolescents. Through the Summer Youth Enrichment Grant (SYEG), we invest in young people when opportunities for enrichment, a sense of belonging, and access to safe spaces are essential for their growth and well-being.

Grant Overview

SYEG provides grants of up to $50,000 to support summer initiatives that provide engaging, developmentally appropriate, and relevant programming to children and adolescents. The grant supports a wide range of program types, including but not limited to:

The TAC Rural Arts Project Support offers funding for diverse arts projects that enhance community engagement and vitality in rural Tennessee. Eligible applicants include local nonprofits and government entities. Projects can involve professional artists, workshops, public performances, and initiatives to improve accessibility for underserved populations. Ineligible uses of funding include K-12 education projects, insurance, and capital improvements. This grant fosters artistic collaboration and innovation in rural settings.
