Fran Gay Memorial Scholarship Fund

When Fran died in 2000, she left behind not only her son, daughter, and other family members, but also her second “family” at JFK Medical Center. She worked at the hospital for 30 years in positions that included supervisor of Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, Coronary Care Unit and as Assistant Director of Nursing, and Risk Manager. Her family established this scholarship to help students pursue careers in the health profession.

Women’s Empowerment Scholarship Fund

Florida Resident and female high school or non-traditional students who exhibit financial need (as defined by the Foundation’s scholarship policies).

This FOA is intended for proposals related to basic and applied research in the STEM categories, and not related to the development of a specific system or hardware procurement.The proposal submission process has two stages:I. Applicants are encouraged to submit a white paper first to Grants@NPS.edu, ; andII. Applicants must submit a full proposal through Grants.gov (do not submit white papers through Grants.gov, only full proposals)Applicants are encouraged to submit a White Paper in advance of a Full Proposal to minimize the labor and other costs associated with the production of detailed full proposals that have little chance of being selected for funding. Based on an assessment of the white papers, the responsible Research Program Officer will provide informal feedback notification to the prospective awardees to encourage or discourage submission proposals. The Research Program Officer may also, on occasion, provide feedback encouraging re-work to strengthen a proposal. White Papers may be submitted at any time during the open period of this FOA. A separate White Paper is required for each research proposal.

Midwest Asset Management University Program

Operating, maintaining, and preserving affordable housing is complex and requires a specialized set of skills and a deep organizational commitment to asset management. Today, affordable housing providers face a variety of economic, operational, and compliance challenges, including rising operating costs, rental arrears, staffing shortages, and an aging portfolio.

Enterprise is launching its first Asset Management University (AMU) Program in the Midwest (Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri, and/or Minnesota) in March 2026 to support mission-aligned, affordable housing providers in meeting these challenges in their efforts to provide housing stability to residents and preserve the long-term affordability of properties.

The Midwest AMU is a comprehensive, five-month training program that seeks to strengthen the asset and property management capabilities of participating housing providers, improving organizations’ capacity to oversee the financial, physical, and operational health of their housing portfolios.

Midwest Asset Management University Cohort 

Enterprise is excited to offer this application for participation in the Asset Management University (AMU) Cohort (the “Cohort”). He believed that a person could do anything if they sat down and read how to do it. When WWII started, he was the first man from the state of South Carolina to enlist in the U.S. Army. He quickly rose to captain and spent most of the war in the Pacific (the Queen of Fiji considered him a friend). Later, Thomas had a long career at Harcourt Brace publishing.

Nominations should include a synopsis of fishery conservation contributions; a description of the influence of those contributions on improved understanding, management, or use of fishery resources; and, at least, one additional supporting letter.

The Asia-Pacific region, home to over half the world's population, faces challenges due to its development goals, which strain natural resources, communities, and cultural heritage. These issues are exacerbated by adverse environmental changes. While research has shed light on these problems, it's clear that more challenges lie ahead. The Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) is well-positioned to generate new knowledge and solutions for these evolving global change and sustainability issues by supporting collaborative research and scientific capacity development activities, particularly those aimed at training the next generation of early career professionals.

APN 2025 Call for Proposals: CRRP 

Through the competitive Collaborative Regional Research Programme (CRRP), we promote regional research that has potential to improve our understanding of global change and its implications while contributing to a sound scientific basis for policymaking in areas affected by global change. Under this pillar, APN supports collaborative research that contributes to the evolving science-policy arena, including the UNFCCC Paris Agreement, IPCC, IPBES, post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals, Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and the UN Decade of Ocean Science as well as ongoing and new global change and sustainability research programmes.

Activities of interest under the CRRP Programme

APN promotes regional collaborative research that improves understanding of the physical, biological and human dimensions of change in the Earth system and advances actionable science that informs decision-making. APN accepts proposals that engage at least 3 member/approved countries in the region, and prioritise collaboratively designed, actionable research with non-academic stakeholders. Proposals must address one or more of the following activities:

• Collaborative research on global change and sustainability that particularly addresses GAPS, ANALYSIS, SYNTHESIS and ASSESSMENT work.
• Collaborative research that develops PATHWAYS and MECHANISMS to achieve sustainable development, and develop adaptation strategies.
• Collaborative PLACE-BASED INTEGRATIVE RESEARCH, particularly from developing countries.
• Collaborative research that is CO-DESIGNED to contribute to the Paris Agreeemnt, Sustainable Development Goals, Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, UN Decade of Ocean Science (2021-2030), and the accumulation of scientific knowledge at IPCC, IPBES, etc.

CAPaBLE, our scientific capacity development programme, aims to enhance the capacity of scientists, policymakers and practitioners to assess global change issues, and explore options to resolve issues towards achieving sustainability. Through CAPaBLE, we support activities that enhance capacity at individual, organizational and systemic levels.

Activities of interest under the CAPaBLE Programme

APN supports CAPaBLE activities that enhance existing capacities of developing countries at three levels of individual-based capacity development; group, organisation, network-based capacity development; and societies, governance, and system level capacity development. APN accepts CAPaBLE proposals that engage 1 or more member/approved countries. Proposals must address one or more of the following activities:

SCIENTIFIC CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES that promote the following approaches related to one or more of the six thematic areas of APN:

• Utilising and strengthening existing capacity, 
• Creating opportunities to use/instil capacity, 
• Developing new capacity through innovative approaches.

AWARENESS-RAISING AND DISSEMINATION activities through policy- and decision-making communities, civil society, and/or the general public.

SCIENCE-POLICY interfacing in the context of the priority topics.

EPSCoR RII Research Fellows Limited Competition

EPSCoR RII: EPSCoR Research Fellows directly aligns with the NSF EPSCoR strategic goal of establishing sustainable Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) professional development pathways that advance workforce development and effects engagement in STEM at national and global levels. EPSCoR RII: EPSCoR Research Fellows provides awards to build research capacity in institutions and transform the career trajectories of investigators and further develop their individual research potential through collaborations with investigators from the nation's premier private, governmental, or academic research institutions and/or centers. The fellowship provides opportunities to establish strong collaborations through extended or periodic collaborative visits to a selected host site. Through collaborative research activities with the host site, Fellows will be able to learn new techniques, develop new collaborations, advance existing partnerships, benefit from access to unique equipment and facilities, and/or shift their research toward potentially transformative new directions. The experiences gained through the fellowships are intended to have lasting impacts that will enhance the Fellows' research trajectories well beyond the award period. The benefits to the Fellows are also expected to improve the research capacity of their institutions and jurisdictions more broadly.

MDCPSS Early Career Achievement Award

Description

The MDCPSS Early Career Achievement Award recognizes the research accomplishments of young scientists in the early stages of their careers who have demonstrated excellence in toxicological research related to medical devices and/or combination products.

Award Categories

Up to two award recipients will be selected:

• One undergraduate or graduate student
• One postdoctoral fellow or early-career scientist (≤5 years post-graduation)

Award Recognition

• Each recipient will receive a plaque and a monetary award to support travel to the SOT Annual Meeting.
• Awardees will be recognized at the MDCPSS Reception and invited to give a 5-minute overview presentation of their work.

MDCPSS Lifetime Career Achievement Award

Description

The MDCPSS Lifetime Career Achievement Award honors a senior investigator whose body of work represents an outstanding and sustained contribution to the field of toxicology as it relates to medical devices and/or combination products.

This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated scientific excellence, leadership, mentorship, and influence in advancing the safety evaluation, regulatory science, and innovation in this specialized area of toxicology.

Nominations of candidates not selected will be considered for up to two additional years, unless withdrawn by the sponsor.

Award Recognition

The awardee will receive a plaque and will be recognized at the MDCPSS Reception during the SOT Annual Meeting.

OTSS Career Achievement Award

Description

The Ocular Toxicology Specialty Section (OTSS) recognizes a Senior Investigator for the achievement or contribution of a particularly influential body of work to the field of ocular toxicology. This award is presented to SOT members who are scientists in academia, industry, or those who have had an impact on regulation in the field.

Nomination is required for this award. The nominator (or self-nomination) should provide a discussion of the role that the candidate’s work has played in any of the below 4 points of criteria. A curriculum vitae and bibliography are required to be included. A letter of recommendation from another investigator in the field is not mandatory but encouraged. Nominations of candidates not selected will be considered for two additional award cycles unless the nomination is withdrawn by the nominator.

Nominations are encouraged with respect to any of the following criteria:

• Contribution to the field of ocular toxicology—depth and breadth of scientific contributions and significance of contributions for advancing the field
• Major influence in the education/training/mentorship of young scientists in the field of ocular toxicology including training in government, industry, or academia
• Leadership and service to the ocular toxicology field including involvement in the Specialty Section or other meetings/organizations related to ocular toxicology
• Influence on regulatory and risk/safety assessment decisions related to ocular toxicology

The award will be announced at the OTSS reception held during the SOT Annual Meeting. The recipient will receive a certificate, monetary award of $1,000 and will give a short (approximately 10 mins) presentation of their work at the OTSS reception held during the SOT Annual Meeting.

OTSS Annual “Paper of the Year” Award

Description

Each year, the Taylor & Francis Paper of the Year Award is presented to the best paper in the area of ocular toxicology published in Cutaneous and Ocular Toxicology.

Nominations from the membership will not be solicited. The OTSS Executive Committee will review and select the best paper among publications in Cutaneous and Ocular Toxicology between 01 January and 31 December of the year preceding the Society of Toxicology (SOT) Annual Meeting.

The award will be announced at the reception of the Ocular Toxicology Specialty Section (OTSS) held during the SOT Annual Meeting. The recipient will receive a certificate of recognition from Taylor & Francis at the OTSS reception and a subscription to Cutaneous and Ocular Toxicology.

The Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley is a collection of individual funds and resources given by local citizens to enhance and support the quality of life in the Fox River Valley of Illinois.

Colonel Sidney Ginsberg Scholarship Endowment Fund

This fund was established upon receipt of a bequest from the estate of Colonel Sidney Ginsberg.

The fund supports scholarships for students graduating from East Aurora or West Aurora High School for attendance at a state-supported college or university located in Illinois.

Colonel Ginsberg (1899-1951) served in the United States Army following his graduation from West Point Academy.

After World War II, he returned to Aurora to manage the Ginsberg Store which was founded by his father Isaac Ginsberg.

In his bequest, Colonel Ginsberg included the following words. “The citizens of Aurora have been extremely good to me and to my business operations. The monies spent in my store (Ginsberg Store) by such citizens enable me to establish a trust and I hope by this method to repay them in some small manner.”

Colonel Ginsberg’s bequest was the first to be received by the Foundation. Created in 1953, Mr. Ginsberg’s fund was established as an endowment in 1989.

Dickes Family Scholarship Permanent Endowment Fund

This fund was established upon receipt of a bequest from the estate of Herman A. Dickes.

Mr. Dickes (1905-2000) was born in Aurora and graduated from East Aurora High School.

Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by the Burlington Railroad.

His wife May Dickes (1907-1989) was born in Chicago. She was an enthusiastic volunteer for numerous community projects and served as the first chairperson of the Mercy Ball.

Mr. and Mrs. Dickes were involved in many youth activities and charitable organizations in Aurora.

Holy Angels Catholic Church, Mercy Center, Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and the Elks Club were a few of the many special places which felt their love.

In keeping with their belief in the importance and accessibility of education for all youth, the couple established an endowed scholarship for students with financial need who are graduating from a high school located within the City of Aurora or from Marmion Academy.

Erin K. Harrison Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Erin K. Harrison Memorial Scholarship Fund provides annual awards to Aurora residents who are graduating from East Aurora or West Aurora High School or to students who are GED graduates.

These scholarships are reserved for students pursuing a career in the field of counseling, education, nursing, psychology, or social work.

Erin Harrison (1985-2004) was born in Park Ridge, Illinois. She grew up in Aurora, Illinois and attended Hall Elementary School, Jefferson Middle School and West Aurora High School.

At the time of her passing, Erin was a senior at West High where she played the clarinet in the school’s various bands. She also worked at the SciTech Museum and was active in the youth group at New England Congregational Church.

Always adventurous and charming, Erin possessed a rare and special gift in relating to children. She had planned to further her talents by pursuing a degree in elementary education at Northern Illinois University.

Scholarships from this fund are awarded to students graduating from high schools located in Oswego School District 308.

These scholarships support students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing and also students studying in a field of their own choosing.

George Hettrich was a lifetime resident and farmer in Oswego Township. After graduating from Oswego High School, he attended Northwestern University and the Chicago Board of Trade Grain and Marketing Program. Mr. Hettrich was elected and served in several Oswego Township and Kendall County offices. He passed away on December 29, 2022.

Elaine Hettrich is a graduate of Oswego High School. She received her R.N. from Copley Hospital School of Nursing and a bachelor of arts degree from Aurora University. She was employed by Copley Hospital and later served twenty-five years as a nurse for the Oswego School District until her retirement in 1994. Mrs. Hettrich is a member of several professional organizations and P.E.O. Chapter BT in Aurora.
