Siouxland Chapter CFMA Scholarship

Awarded to graduating seniors of high schools in South Dakota.

The NLSOT Graduate Student Travel Award aims to assist graduate students from the Northland SOT region with travel costs to the national SOT Annual Meeting. This award encourages student involvement in local chapter activities and can be used for various travel-related expenses, including registration, airfare, lodging, and meals. By supporting student participation, the award fosters academic growth and networking opportunities within the toxicology community.

The NLSOT Postdoctoral Travel Award aims to support postdoctoral researchers from the Northland SOT region by covering travel costs to the national SOT Annual Meeting. This initiative encourages their participation in chapter activities, fostering professional development and collaboration. Eligible expenses include meeting registration, airfare, hotel accommodations, and meals, making it a valuable opportunity for emerging scientists to engage with the broader toxicology community.

Rape Prevention Education Grant

Sexual violence is any sexual activity where consent is not freely given. Sexual violence affects millions of people each year in the United States and can lead to serious health consequences, including mental health conditions, injury, and chronic physical health problems.

The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS, 2016–2017) reports:

• More than 1 in 2 women (over 54%) and nearly 1 in 3 men (about 31%) have experienced contact sexual violence—including rape, being made to penetrate someone, sexual coercion, or unwanted sexual contact—at some point in their lives.
• Nearly 1 in 4 women (about 27%) have experienced completed or attempted rape in their lifetimes.
• About 1 in 26 men (3.8%) have experienced completed or attempted rape, and more than 1 in 10 men (10.7%) have been made to penetrate someone during their lifetime.

The South Dakota Rape Prevention Education (RPE) program is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This funding is authorized through the Violence Against Women Act.

The goal of the RPE program is to strengthen sexual violence prevention efforts by focusing on primary prevention: preventing sexual violence before it occurs. It operates in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and six U.S. territories. The CDC provides tools, training, and technical assistance to the RPE program to prevent sexual violence, reduce risk factors, enhance protective factors, promote best practices, analyze data and evaluate prevention efforts.

With the RPE program, South Dakota hopes to lower sexual violence rates against everyone, but especially the target audiences of children, teens, young adults, and Native Americans.

The South Dakota Community Foundation offers Local Grants through Community Savings Accounts to support nonprofit organizations in their missions. Eligible applicants can apply directly for funding from local advisory committees. These grants aim to create long-term funding sources for charitable causes within South Dakota, ensuring that locally raised dollars remain in the community. The foundation emphasizes philanthropy and assists with tax benefits and investments for effective charitable giving.

The Nonprofit Savings Account Challenge Grants, offered by the South Dakota Community Foundation, aim to strengthen local nonprofits by encouraging donations to new or existing endowment funds. 501(c)(3) nonprofits in South Dakota that breed, raise, and train assistance dogs can apply for Patterson Dental Foundation’s grants, with awards up to US $35,000 for capital projects, personnel, puppy raising, and program support. Eligible organizations must serve communities in Patterson Companies service areas and be ADI or IGDF members or candidates.

The Collective Abundance Fund, supported by the Bush Foundation, aims to empower Indigenous Peoples in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota by providing wealth-building resources. Since 2023, it has awarded $15.9M to 396 individuals and families, focusing on redefining wealth through community well-being and relationships. The fund promotes power-building initiatives while addressing the wealth gap and rejecting exploitative economic systems, fostering a spirit of generosity and self-determination among awardees.

The GIG Fund: Arts and Wellness offers grants ranging from $2,000 to $15,000 to support projects that blend arts and wellness. Open to non-profit organizations, hospitals, and clinics across the Midwest, this fund aims to enhance community well-being through artistic initiatives. Eligible applicants must engage professional artists and provide activities that promote health and creativity. This funding round supports activities occurring between December 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026, emphasizing the importance of arts in fostering wellness.

The Media Partnerships Program, funded by the Bush Foundation, supports nonprofit media organizations in Minnesota and surrounding areas. It provides three-year operating grants to enhance news coverage, foster community engagement, and ensure diverse voices are represented. By promoting transparency and editorial independence, the program aims to amplify storytelling that addresses local issues, ultimately strengthening the region's informational landscape. Eligible organizations can receive up to $150,000 in support to further their mission while collaborating with the Foundation.

The MNRS originally began to provide a place for nurses to collaborate, and collaborate they did! Over time, the founding members began to realize the benefits of having an organization dedicated specifically to nursing research. With some careful attention and a lot of hard work, we have grown into the organization it is today. We're a society where scientists, innovators, and drivers of clinical practice across the career trajectory, come together to share ideas and grow our field through innovative research.

The mission of the MNRS is to generate knowledge, translate evidence into practice, and enhance careers through collaborative engagement, implementation, and dissemination among diverse scholars. Our Vision to be the premier society that advances science, fosters leadership, and drives dissemination to improve health equity for all people.

MNRS Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes an MNRS member who has demonstrated sustained influential leadership and service to the organization, such as chairing committees, organizing annual conference activities, or serving on the Board of Directors. 

The GIG Fund, managed by the Illinois Arts Council Agency, provides grants ranging from $2,000 to $15,000 for nonprofit organizations to support public arts projects in Midwestern communities. This initiative aims to enhance access to arts for underserved audiences, including rural and economically disadvantaged groups. Eligible activities include performances and art festivals, with a focus on engaging professional artists. The funding period extends from December 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, and requires a 1:1 match.

The Shooting Range Grant Program, managed by South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, aims to enhance public shooting opportunities by funding non-profit organizations to develop and improve firearms and archery ranges. This competitive grant is supported by the Pittman-Robertson Program, which relies on federal excise taxes on shooting equipment. Harriet H. Werley New Investigator Award

The purpose of the Harriet H. Werley New Investigator Award is to recognize the scientific contribution of a new investigator who has conducted nursing research that has the potential to enhance the science and practice of nursing.

Qualified youth corps and tribal-serving youth organizations in South Dakota can seek funding to run natural and cultural resource projects that engage youth and young veterans in conservation work. US Department of the Interior: Bureau of Land Management supports activities like trail work, habitat restoration, cultural resource preservation, wildfire risk reduction, and environmental education under this nationwide Youth Conservation Corps opportunity, with awards of US $30,000 - US $220,000.

The CHS Foundation's Ag Leadership Grant aims to enhance agricultural leadership and cooperative education. This program supports projects that cultivate a diverse pipeline for future agricultural leaders, focusing on education and career training for high school students to young professionals. Priority is given to initiatives that impact multiple states within the CHS trade area, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of the cooperative business model in agriculture.

The CHS Foundation's Cooperative Education Grant aims to support educational projects that enhance understanding of the agricultural cooperative business model. With a focus on middle school to college-age students, the program encourages innovative approaches, measurable outcomes, and engagement strategies. It prioritizes initiatives with a national or state-level reach within the CHS trade area, fostering success and growth in cooperative education. Funding will be allocated to programs that align with these goals, ensuring a robust educational framework for future leaders in agriculture.

The Gil Gabanski Student Scholarship, provided by the MGWA Foundation, offers multiple $2,000 awards for undergraduate and graduate students studying at accredited institutions in Minnesota and nearby areas. This scholarship aims to ease educational expenses and foster interest in groundwater-related careers, including hydrogeology and groundwater geology. It also promotes mentorship opportunities for early-career students, honoring Gil Gabanski's legacy in the geosciences community.

The WNAN Natural History Research Grant supports research in biological natural history within western North America. Grants of up to $2,500 are available for five authors to assist with travel, supplies, and other research-related expenses. This initiative particularly encourages applicants from institutions where research is not the primary focus, aiming to foster diverse contributions to natural history.

The St. Croix Valley Foundation serves six counties bordering the St. Croix River through local partnerships and place-based philanthropy. We serve:

• Minnesota: Chisago County, Washington County
• Wisconsin: Burnett County, Pierce County, Polk County, St. Croix County

Humane Organization Grant Program 

Mission

To enhance the quality of life of shelter/ rescue animals and to increase their chances for adoption. 

The St. Croix Valley Foundation (SCVF) Humane Organization grant program funded by the Compassionate Animal Fund, is accepting applications (invitation only) from Managed Open Admission humane organizations located in the upper Midwest. The grants, ranging up to $3,000, can cover items on your “wish list” including food, supplies, infrastructure needs, and veterinary cost. 

Funding Criteria

Grants are intended to provide funds for items such as food, supplies, medicine, spay/neuter programs (for in-house animals to aid in adoption) newsletters, or other needs and/or programs that most benefit the humane organization.

​We understand that shelters may differ in the services or alternatives they offer during the waiting period prior to intake. If your facility is at capacity, you must provide a clear statement outlining how emergency surrenders and stray animals are handled, including the procedures your organization follows to operate as an Open Admission shelter.  

Arbor Rising Grant, established in 2010, is a NYC-based nonprofit providing unrestricted multi-year funding and capacity-building support to nonprofits focused on alleviating poverty. The grant process occurs every three years, with the next round in 2025 being invitation-only. Eligible organizations must demonstrate high potential and effective leadership, typically operating on a modest budget. Arbor Rising prioritizes applicants from the NYC metro area while expanding to cover the lower 48 US states.

Museums and other organizations in South Dakota planning non-motorized transportation projects, such as pedestrian or bicycle facilities, recreational trails, or related community improvements, may be eligible for this program. The South Dakota Department of Transportation offers competitive Transportation Alternatives funding of more than US $50,000 for infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects that enhance safe alternative transportation options.
