The Rural Maryland Council

The Rural Maryland Council (RMC) brings together citizens, community-based organizations, federal, state, county and municipal government officials as well as representatives of the for-profit and nonprofit sectors to collectively address the needs of Rural Maryland communities. We provide a venue for members of agriculture and natural resource-based industries, health care facilities, educational institutions, economic and community development organizations, for-profit and nonprofit corporations, and government agencies to cross traditional boundaries, share information, and address in a more holistic way the special needs and opportunities in Rural Maryland.

• Encourage healthy, connected communities throughout Rural Maryland through convening of stakeholders, education, public relations, and advocacy.
• Support the development and growth of vibrant economies in Rural Maryland.
• Foster stewardship of Maryland’s natural resources.

As a collaborative partnership, the RMC operates in a nonpartisan and nondiscriminatory manner. Policy-makers and managers from stakeholder agencies and organizations at all levels of government and the private sector are valued participants. Where practical, the decision-making undertaken by the RMC is made by reaching consensus.

Maryland Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP)

Purpose:

To support initiatives that improve access to healthy, locally sourced food across rural communities. The program will support projects that expand post-harvest infrastructure for small farms, enhance food distribution through food hubs and mobile markets, and increase procurement of local foods by institutions such as schools, hospitals, and community organizations. Additional priorities include advancing nutrition education and supporting regional coordination to address food insecurity in rural “hot spot” communities.

Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore

As leaders, grant makers, and stewards of philanthropy, the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore connects people who care to causes that matter for the common good of the Lower Eastern Shore. Community Needs Letter of Inquiry

The Community Needs grant supports a broad range of charitable programs. CFES aims to meet the evolving needs of our grantees as they work to serve our communities. Applicants may request support for operations or programs. However, limitations may apply and some organizations, particularly those new to our grant programs, may be restricted to programmatic requests. If this is the case, staff will provide direction after the letter of inquiry review. This grant program will start with a LETTER OF INQUIRY. It will be important to explain in your Letter of Inquiry the impact your organization makes in our region, the amount requested, and intended use of funds. Invited applicants will submit final applications.

Limitations

• Out of area applicants must be actively serving citizens of Wicomico, Worcester, and/or Somerset Counties and must contact the Foundation prior to applying to determine eligibility. Applications must discuss and provide evidence of local impact.

• Organizations new to CFES may not be eligible for operational support and may be limited to a lower grant maximum. We will communicate any restrictions or concerns upon reviewing your letter of inquiry.

• Places of worship may request programmatic support for non-sectarian work (community programming accessible to all and not limited to congregation members).

• Government agencies may request programmatic support.

• Pre-K through 12 schools may request support through our annual Education Grants program.

• To ensure resources remain available for new organizations or projects, repeat requests (requested funding for the same organization or project year after year) may be limited to a lower award maximum or denied in competitive grant cycles.

The Maryland Agricultural Education and Rural Development Assistance Fund (MAERDAF) Grant supports rural-serving nonprofits and community colleges in enhancing agricultural education, economic development, and community initiatives. The fund aims to strengthen their capacity to tackle rural challenges and foster partnerships that leverage additional funding. Key focus areas include agriculture, energy efficiency, broadband expansion, youth leadership, and community development, ensuring targeted assistance for sustainable growth and innovation in rural Maryland.

The Jean Griswold Foundation

The Jean Griswold Foundation (JGF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Caregivers through educational opportunities and scholarships. 

Our Mission

The mission of the Jean Griswold Foundation is to support Caregivers by providing educational scholarships* to enable them to further their training, enhance their careers, and better assist the clients they serve.

By offering educational scholarships*, our Foundation will not only make a positive impact on the Caregivers themselves, but also the clients they assist and the home healthcare agencies where they are employed, as well as help advance the overarching home-care industry.

Scholarships will be paid directly to the federally accredited educational institutions of the winning Scholars’ choosing.

Empowering Caregivers Through Education

The Jean Griswold Foundation Scholarship Program awards scholarships to deserving Caregivers who wish to further their education in a care-related field. Applicants do not have to be associated with Griswold in any way, and the funds will be paid directly to the institution where the caregiver will be receiving education.

It provides funding for a non-profit organization to enhance educational programming during the school day, focusing on the recruitment, training, and continuous learning of new educators. This initiative specifically targets local education agencies with over 50% of students qualifying for free lunch, promoting equity in education.

The Women’s Fund of the Eastern Shore empowers local women and girls through collective philanthropy, addressing crucial needs such as job readiness and crisis support. Each spring, they provide grants up to $5,000 to nonprofit organizations and programs that demonstrate measurable benefits to this population in Wicomico, Worcester, and Somerset Counties. This initiative aims to foster self-sufficiency and positive change within the community.

The Ferguson Cares Grant is an essential aspect of Ferguson's Sustainability strategy, focusing on social challenges and community wellbeing. This grant supports nonprofit organizations in the U.S. dedicated to affordable housing, skilled trades workforce development, clean water access, and enhancing local economic quality of life.
