Scholarships

Community Foundation of Henderson County's Scholarship Program began in 1984. Thanks to the generosity of passionate donors, over 2,000 traditional and non-traditional students have been provided more than $10 million in scholarships to pursue higher education.

VFW Hedrick-Rhodes Post 5206 Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduating senior or graduate of a public, parochial, or private school and intend to enroll in a degree-granting program at an accredited school. 

The schlarship is renewable.

The Asheville Young Woman Leadership Award, established by Dr. Andrea Gravatt, honors exceptional high school junior women in Buncombe County who exhibit remarkable leadership and community involvement. Funded by local women, this annual award aims to acknowledge these young leaders' achievements while inspiring future contributions to their communities. Recipients can utilize the funds for accredited post-high school education or enrichment programs, fostering a new generation of empowered female leaders.

Scholarships

Community Foundation of Henderson County's Scholarship Program began in 1984. Thanks to the generosity of passionate donors, over 2,000 traditional and non-traditional students have been provided more than $10 million in scholarships to pursue higher education.

Winifred M. Wyman Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a graduate of a Henderson County public school who wishes to pursue his or her education at an accredited college or university. 

The schlarship is renewable.

Charles Black Construction Company, Inc. Scholarship

The Charles Black Scholarship Fund award identifies and recognizes high school seniors at various high schools in northeast Georgia who have achieved excellence in school and community life. The scholarship fund was created by the Charles Black Construction Company in 2002 as a way to show appreciation for past business relationships by giving back to the community. The scholarship was formally known as the Northeast Georgia School Superintendent’s Scholarship. The resulting scholarships recognize today’s graduating seniors, inspire undergraduate students, and will impact the quality of life in our communities for generations to come.

This scholarship is a one-time award, and recipient school systems and award amounts are determined each year by the Charles Black Construction Company. In 2026, scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who plan to attend an accredited college, university, or technical school.

The 2026 scholarships will be 41, $1,000 awards available to graduating seniors at: Apalachee High School, Banks County High School, Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy, Commerce City, Elbert County High School, Franklin County High School, Gilmer County High School, Hart County High School, Lanier Christian Academy, Lumpkin County High School, Madison County High School, Newton County High Schools (Alcovy, Eastside and Newton), Rabun County High School, Towns County High School, Union County High School, White County High School, and Winder-Barrow High School.

The NIOSH Small Research Grant Program (R03) aims to enhance the understanding of occupational disease risks and develop strategies for risk reduction. This grant supports research projects that require limited resources, including pilot studies and data analysis, to effectively translate scientific findings into practice. Applicants are urged to articulate the health burdens addressed and the anticipated impacts of their research on workplace safety and health, thereby contributing to the reduction of work-related illnesses and injuries.

The Donna W. Adams Scholarship Program, established by the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, honors the legacy of a dedicated Master Gardener and Detroit resident. This scholarship supports local students, reflecting the Adams' commitment to education and their beloved Indian Village neighborhood. The program aims to empower the next generation by providing financial assistance to those pursuing higher education, thereby enriching the community they cherished.

The BJA FY 2026 Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Program aims to enhance the safety of federal judges and their families by preventing the disclosure of sensitive information. This funding opportunity supports state and local governments, including tribal entities, in implementing protective measures. The program emphasizes collaboration between federal, state, and local agencies to ensure justice is administered without fear of personal reprisal. Grants can only be used for the designated purpose of safeguarding federal judges as outlined in the statute.

The Chattooga Club Scholarship, managed by the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, aims to support current Club employees in pursuing higher education amidst rising costs. Eligible applicants must be employed at the Club and either be high school seniors or graduates. This initiative enhances educational opportunities for dedicated employees, contributing to their academic and professional growth.

The Sue & Ken Dyer Foundation Travel Scholarship, managed by The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, offers financial support of up to $2,500 for students from select schools in South Central Pennsylvania. This scholarship aims to assist juniors and seniors with travel costs for educational or service-related trips. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and submit a report detailing their travel experiences. The fund supports the foundation's mission to enhance community development and educational opportunities.

The Cheryl Wojtas Memorial Scholarship Program honors Cheryl Wojtas's commitment to education by offering scholarships to deserving graduates from Port Huron Area Schools and Gaylord Community Schools. Each recipient will receive a one-time award for their freshman year at a nonprofit post-secondary institution, aimed at supporting their educational journey. Financial need is a key consideration, and funds will cover tuition, fees, and essential expenses related to their studies.

The Ladies’ Branch of the New Bedford Port Society Scholarship, managed by the SouthCoast Community Foundation, supports students with familial ties to the sea or descendants of seamen. This scholarship aims to promote education in maritime-related fields. Eligible applicants must reside in specific SouthCoast communities or plan to pursue maritime sciences. Since its inception, the Foundation has distributed over $50 million to enhance the region's educational, humanitarian, and cultural landscape.

The John H. Emery Rail Heritage Trust Grant aims to preserve the intercity rail passenger experience from 1920 to 1960. This private foundation supports projects that restore historic rail equipment and enhance passenger service. With an emphasis on operational railroads, the Trust encourages inclusive practices and the involvement of young people in rail heritage. Grant requests can reach up to $50,000, fostering opportunities for multiple annual awards to eligible organizations dedicated to rail heritage.

The Detroit Economic Club Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students from Detroit and surrounding counties pursuing undergraduate education. Each year, two renewable scholarships of $2,000 are awarded to incoming college freshmen. Recipients can reapply for up to three additional years. About Dale "Haynes" and Elaine Woolcott Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is for a college-bound student who is a legal resident of Henderson County, North Carolina or Van Buren County, Michigan. The applicant must demonstrate financial need and have a record of community service. Preference will be given to graduates of a Henderson County high school or a graduate of Hartford Public Schools. 

This is a renewable scholarship.

The Society of the Order of the Southern Cross Grant aims to support charitable projects that preserve and restore Southern heritage artifacts and locations. This scholarship is aimed at individuals from the 18 westernmost counties of North Carolina, including the Qualla Boundary. Eligible applicants must be seniors in secondary school or graduates and can apply funds to any relevant post-high school educational program. About Denis Barton ScholarshipApplicant must be a resident of either Transylvania or Henderson County who has graduated from a public, private, parochial or home school program who wishes to pursue an undergraduate degree at a degree granting college or university and who demonstrates the need for financial assistance in order to attend an institution of higher learning. The applicant should have a cumulative GPA equivalent to a "C average" upon graduation. Preference will be given to students from Transylvania County. Financial need will be more strongly considered than grades. An adult student will be considered for this scholarship if he or she can demonstrate reason as to why he or she did not pursue his or her college education immediately after high school. Such reasons would include but are not limited to military service, medical reasons, family obligations, and/or mission work. The recipient must be awarded the scholarship prior to the age of 30.This is a renewable scholarship.

The Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship supports Ph.D. candidates in the humanities and social sciences with a $31,000 stipend for their final year of dissertation writing. This prestigious fellowship encourages original research that engages with religion, ethics, and values. Candidates must have completed all coursework and preliminary exams, and be in the writing stage of their dissertation. The fellowship aims to alleviate living expenses and is open to students whose work significantly contributes to scholarly discussions in their fields.

The Rebecca Cook Travel Award for Botanical Professionals, established by the Southern Appalachian Botanical Society, supports early career professionals attending the ASB Annual Meeting. Morris Kaplan Kiwanis Scholarship

The recipient shall be a citizen and resident of Henderson County and shall have graduated from a high school in Henderson County.

About Dirk and Paige Willms Scholarship

This scholarship is to provide financial assistance for students seeking a higher education leading to a degree, certification or licensure at an accredited institution approved by the Foundation. Student must be a child or stepchild of a current employee in good standing who works as operations personnel with one of the following agencies: All municipal police departments located in Henderson County, Henderson County Sheriff’s Department, Hendersonville Fire Department, all Henderson County Volunteer Fire Departments, and the Henderson County Rescue Squad. Students may live within or outside of Henderson County, NC; meet all academic requirements of the attending institution; and be a United States citizen.

This scholarship is for a student in need of financial support who is pursuing an education beyond high school. Preference will be given to a student pursuing a career in math or business administration.

Applicant must demonstrate financial need and plan to pursue an education beyond 12th grade by attending an accredited post-secondary institution of higher learning.

Applicant must have graduated from a Henderson County public or private high school and attained a GPA of at least a "C" or its equivalent. Applicant may be planning to attend a two-year or a four-year institution.

This scholarship provides financial support to a graduate or graduating senior of a Henderson County public high school or Venice High School in Sarasota, Florida who is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business at either a public or a private (non-profit) college or university.
