Assisting organizations that serve our veterans with housing, healthcare, job training, mental health services, and family support.

The Barbara Stone Foundation

Barbara Stone served as a champion for individuals with disabilities and the Foundation strives to continue her legacy. The Barbara Stone Foundation is a 501 (C) 3 non-profit organization based in Greenville County, South Carolina.

Our primary focus is to influence community systems policies and culture to result in equitable opportunities for individuals with disabilities. We do this by identifying gaps in the system, investing in or creating our own innovative programs, leveraging partnerships in the community and through our signature initiative Greenville CAN. Greenville CAN is a multi-stakeholder collective impact coalition focused on creating systemic community change through specific community projects focused on people with disabilities. Through our multi-faceted approach we believe we can achieve our vision of a community where all people with disabilities flourish.

Barbara Stone Community Leadership Award

Barbara Stone was an instrumental leader in the Greenville community when it came to the services and rights of people with disabilities. Her decades-long mission made a profound impact on the quality of life of many people with disabilities in Greenville County. Like Barbara, there are many dedicated individuals in Greenville who still carry on her legacy of service and giving. It is with great pride that the Barbara Stone Foundation has created an annual Community Leadership Award to honor an individual who has shown the same commitment, initiative and spirit. If you know of an individual who you think embodies some of the same characteristics as Ms Stone, we invite you to nominate this person. 

Barbara Stone led efforts to unify community and government leaders to establish day program options for children with disabilities and employment workshops for adults. In 1968, she helped establish a day camp for children and adults with disabilities and special needs which has grown into a wonderful summer camp called Camp Spearhead. Because of her, seeds were planted to establish many services that still exist today. Barbara’s legacy and determination to support individuals’ lives is now carried on through the Foundation which bears her name.

Barbara Stone Foundation: Community Innovations Grant

The Barbara Stone Foundation is committed to empowering individuals with disabilities. One of the ways we do this is by investing in innovative programs and initiatives that address unmet needs and provide creative solutions for the disability community in the Upstate of South Carolina. Our Community Innovations Grant program prioritizes applications that propose groundbreaking approaches to bridging service gaps and fostering inclusion. Our hope is that creative individuals and organizations in our community’s amazing network of providers will develop new ways to ensure our community is place where individuals with disabilities flourish.

Public and private K–12 schools that are identified ArtsNOW partner schools can access funding to expand arts integration and professional learning in Greenville, South Carolina. Grants from South Carolina Arts Commission support multi-year arts integration training, demonstration lessons, curriculum mapping, and planning to engage students, equip educators, and strengthen school communities.

The Spartanburg Regional Foundation, established in 1991, plays a crucial role in enhancing community health in the Upstate of South Carolina. By supporting projects and initiatives, the Foundation has contributed over $100 million to healthcare efforts. It allocates funds to priority areas such as maternal health, behavioral health, and workforce development. The Foundation aims to empower change through innovative grantmaking, benefiting both Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System and community partners dedicated to improving health outcomes.

With a mission to improve quality of life, the foundation favors initiatives serving diverse, historically underserved, and low-to-moderate income residents through its TD Ready Commitment focus areas.

The Jean Griswold Foundation

The Jean Griswold Foundation (JGF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Caregivers through educational opportunities and scholarships. 

Our Mission

The mission of the Jean Griswold Foundation is to support Caregivers by providing educational scholarships* to enable them to further their training, enhance their careers, and better assist the clients they serve.

By offering educational scholarships*, our Foundation will not only make a positive impact on the Caregivers themselves, but also the clients they assist and the home healthcare agencies where they are employed, as well as help advance the overarching home-care industry.

Scholarships will be paid directly to the federally accredited educational institutions of the winning Scholars’ choosing.

Empowering Caregivers Through Education

The Jean Griswold Foundation Scholarship Program awards scholarships to deserving Caregivers who wish to further their education in a care-related field. Applicants do not have to be associated with Griswold in any way, and the funds will be paid directly to the institution where the caregiver will be receiving education.

The Jean Griswold Foundation is dedicated to supporting Caregivers, the backbone of the care industry. We provide educational scholarships so Care Professionals can further their training, enhance their skills, elevate their careers, and better assist the people they serve.

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation focuses on supporting organizations that empower communities through basic needs, income creation, and stable housing. By investing in health and job opportunities, they aim to enhance economic mobility for low- and moderate-income families. Their partnerships target vulnerable populations, ensuring equitable access to resources that foster community vitality and resilience. The Lynn Thornhill Scholarship, managed by the Beckley Area Foundation, supports students at Furman University in their pursuit of higher education. This scholarship is part of a broader initiative to facilitate charitable giving and enhance educational opportunities in Southern West Virginia. By providing financial assistance, the foundation aims to inspire students to achieve their academic goals and contribute positively to their communities.

Nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations addressing basic needs, income creation, housing stability, or community empowerment in Greenville, South Carolina can access funding through Bank of America Charitable Foundation. Grants support economic mobility efforts for low- and moderate-income communities, including workforce development, small business resiliency, and community development for vulnerable populations such as families, youth, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities.

With a mission to strengthen communities, PNC Foundation provides Greenville, South Carolina nonprofits with funding for early childhood education and economic development initiatives. Eligible 501(c)(3) organizations serving low- and moderate-income children and families in areas where PNC has a significant presence may seek support for education, community development, affordable housing, arts, and essential human services.

About PLTW Computer SciencePLTW Computer Science students are technology trailblazers who are empowered through transportable skills and prepared to start their career, whether that is in computer science or not.3M has partnered with PLTW to ensure students and teachers have the tools, resources and knowledge they need to succeed in STEM. 3M inspires the next generation of science leaders through the following goals:

• Increasing STEM exposure in K-12 classrooms
• Supporting experiential learning opportunities enhancing the quality of STEM teaching
• Providing professional development opportunities for students

Program Requirements:

• Grantee must use their grant funds to expand their existing PLTW Computer Science program.
  • Example expansion activities include but are not limited to adding an additional PLTW Computer Science  course not previously offered,
  • and/or adding additional class periods of an existing PLTW Computer Science courses previously offered,
  • and/or training additional teachers in PLTW Computer Science courses for the 2027-2028 academic year.

• Grantee must use their grant funds to expand their existing PLTW Engineering program.

The SC Christian Foundation offers Community Trust Grants designed to support Christian non-profit organizations that share the Gospel beyond the church walls. Eligible ministries must complete a Ministry Introduction Form for review. Grants are awarded annually, with proposals released in July and announcements made in October. This initiative aims to address the evolving needs of communities in South Carolina, particularly in Spartanburg, Greenville, York, Horry, and Georgetown Counties.

The Housing for Everyone Grant Competition, part of the 2026 Initiative, aims to support eviction prevention in low-to moderate-income communities. About PLTW GatewayPLTW Gateway (6-8) opens paths that create meaningful futures. It connects students to careers in areas they can, and can't, imagine.3M has partnered with PLTW to ensure students and teachers have the tools, resources and knowledge they need to succeed in STEM. 3M inspires the next generation of science leaders through the following goals:

• Increasing STEM exposure in K-12 classrooms
• Supporting experiential learning opportunitiesEnhancing the quality of STEM teaching
• Providing professional development opportunities for students

Program Requirements:

• The purpose of this grant is to assist the grantee's implementation of the PLTW Gateway program.
• Grantee must offer at least one PLTW Gateway unit in the 2027-2028 academic year.
• Grantee may implement any PLTW Gateway unit of their choosing.

Selected organizations receive a two-year leadership development experience plus capacity-building support, if they meet revenue thresholds and other organizational readiness requirements in eligible markets.
