The Ohio Nurses Association (ONA), local Ohio State University Nurses Organization (OSUNO) Undergraduate Nursing Scholarship was established by the Mid-Ohio District

Nurses Association, to honor leadership in mentoring, education, volunteerism and advocacy on public health issues that drive commitment to the nursing profession. As the successor organization, OSUNO carries this commitment forward.

Scholarship Fund of The Stephen H. Barmakian Family Foundation

Stephen H. Barmakian was born in Cambridge, MA on July 5, 1926, a son of the late Haroutune Kevork and Armenoohi Barmakian. He grew up with his brother Haig in a tight-knit and loving family, and the two brothers, although four years apart, were as close as twins. Stephen was a standout athlete and talented enough on the baseball field to have been signed to a major league contract by the Boston Red Sox. His plans to work the diamond were interrupted by World War II and a few months after graduating from Watertown High in 1944, he joined the U.S. Army. Stephen’s older brother and best friend, who he affectionately called ‘Haigy,’ had been fighting with General George S. Patton’s Third Army since the liberation of Europe had begun earlier that year. On the first of February, 1945, Haigy was killed in action fighting with his unit in Germany and the world changed forever for Stephen and his family. It took weeks for the news to come home to Watertown, and even longer to reach Stephen. Following his discharge from the Army at the war’s end, Stephen enrolled at Northeastern University and later transferred to Boston University, all while resurrecting his baseball career. He played for a time with the Saint Louis Browns organization. Until his retirement, Stephen worked for the federal government as a public relations specialist. He was a member of Pequossette Lodge A.F. & A.M., and had been a life member of The Grand Lodge of Masons of Massachusetts. He remained active and independent all his life and was known to walk for miles well into his eighties. He is remembered by many dear friends, including Joseph Balian and Madeline Ives.

Graduating high school seniors who are dependent children of long-term R+L Carriers employees can receive US $5,000 toward full-time study at a two- or four-year U.S. college or university. Grants from The Columbus Foundation help students nationwide, including those from Texas County, Oklahoma, pursue higher education goals as employee dependents.

Students pursuing higher education who live in, or attend school in, select central Ohio counties can receive need-based scholarship support through the Betsy Rueb Scholarship. Focused on higher education, The Columbus Foundation invites eligible applicants to study at post-secondary institutions across the U.S., which may include schools serving students from Texas County, Oklahoma.

Graduating or graduate students of Dublin City Schools planning to major in education and attend a U.S. institution can receive up to US $10,000 through the Ann E. Myers Scholarship. The Columbus Foundation supports future educators nationwide; students from areas like Texas County, Oklahoma, who meet these criteria may be eligible.

Nonprofit or school-based special educators seeking additional special education licensing may be eligible for scholarships supporting professional development, including those serving Texas County, Oklahoma. WindSwell Foundation, managed by the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne, offers up to US $2,500 per year for accredited coursework toward added certification or a master’s in special education.

Research institutions and other eligible organizations conducting agricultural crop and protein research can seek US $400,000 - US $500,000 to improve the flavor and functionality of plant-based and fermentation-derived proteins. A. Porter Spirit of ZHS Fund

A long time teacher at Zanesville High School. As a new teacher ZHS embraced her and she embraced the Blue Devils. Annette Porter is a first generation college graduate from a single parent home. While her parents supported her decision to go to college, it was necessary to incur personal debt which was and is common. This scholarship is available to help those students who may need a little financial help to take the first step toward college, and also make the collegiate experience less burdensome.

Becoming a Blue Devil was a process. Annette had a lot of help along the way, from Principals, Asst Principals, teaching peers, friends and family, so in an effort to pay it forward she has created this scholarship. “ Everyone of my students had potential, the most difficult thing was to convince them to work toward achieving it”. This scholarship will be awarded to a Blue Devil, not necessarily the most “spirited” but the Best Blue Devil who demonstrated all of the qualities that make up a Blue Devil.
