Blind Educator of the Year Award
Recognize a blind educator who strives to guide, uplift, and advocate for their blind students and the needs of blind people.
The Blind Educator of the Year Award was established by the National Organization of Blind Educators, a division of the National Federation of the Blind, in 1991 to recognize outstanding blind teachers.

The Gubelmann Family Foundation Scholarship Fund
The Gubelmann name has been prominent in and around Palm Beach since the early 1940s, when the late Walter Gubelmann and his wife, Barton, first began to spend time in the area. Their son, William grew up in Palm Beach before moving to England to pursue his dream of racing where he became a British Formula Car champion and drove the European Formula II circuit.
Education is the most important thing to help disadvantaged people to better themselves,” William Gubelmann says. “We want to help the right person go to the right school for the right reason.”
Adds Shelley Gubelmann, “What impresses me is the fact that many of these students aren’t looking for large amounts of money. I don’t think people have nearly enough awareness that you don’t have to be a rich person to help somebody else.”
The first scholarships were awarded from the Gubelmann Family Foundation Scholarship Fund in May 2001

We work alongside donors and community partners to help meet area needs, create solutions, and inspire action to build a vibrant community today and a stronger community for tomorrow.
T. Edgar & Robbie Davis Johnson Scholarship Endowment
As a lasting tribute to his grandparents' legacy, Ted and Nancy Paup of Fort Worth established the T. Edgar and Robbie Davis Johnson Memorial Scholarship endowment fund in 2010. T. Edgar Johnson was an attorney and businessman out of Waco who graduated from the University of Texas in 1915. After returning from serving in World War I as a captain in the 344th Field Artillery unit of the U.S. Army, Johnson met his wife, Robbie, in Breckenridge, TX. Attorney work did not pay well during the depression, so T. Edgar and Robbie moved to Vernon after purchasing a Ford automobile agency. The business grew to the Johnson-Davis Ford Motor Company, which the couple operated from the 1930s to 1960, as well as other oil & gas and ranching ventures.
Due to their impact on the area, Mr. Paup created the scholarship to honor their legacy, impact students' lives, and pave the way for others to do the same for Vernon youth. The one-time $750 scholarship is for graduating seniors of Vernon ISD attending Vernon College, Texas Tech, West Texas A&M, Texas A&M, or MSU. Students must have a 3.0 GPA and financial need will be considered.
