The Valero Energy Foundation -- a public charity and Valero's philanthropic arm -- funds nonprofit agencies that serve predominantly disadvantaged children and families. In 2019, the Foundation contributed appoximately $40 million in assistance in the communities where Valero has major operations.

Our funding focuses on our four pillars of giving in communities where we have major operations.

Amarillo Handgunners Association fbo The Bill Goodson Memorial Scholarship

For graduating high school seniors in the northernmost 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle that are actively involved in shooting sports and activities.

Benjamin Gimp Raffkind Memorial Scholarship

For graduating high school seniors in the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle who plan to attend Amarillo College or West Texas A&M University.

For a working, graduating high school senior in the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle.

Henry Hamilton Scholarship

For graduating high school seniors or currently enrolled college students from the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle who plan to major in Engineering or Environmental Science. The recipient may attend the school of his/her choice.

Jack and Marci McMicken Scholarship Fund

Limited to members or immediate family members of the Amarillo Bowling Association, the Amarillo Women’s Bowling Association, and the Amarillo Young Bowling Alliance. This scholarship does not use the AAF general application.

For graduating seniors from the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle. The recipient may attend any accredited college/university, but must major in the field of health care.

Jake Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund for the Learning Disabled

Graduating seniors from the 26 northernmost counties of the Texas Panhandle. They must exhibit integrity, ambition, good moral character and a strong desire to achieve a higher level of education. Demonstrate the ability to overcome obstacles caused by learning disability. Demonstrate a high standard of values, such as loyalty to friends, family, and faith.

For residents in the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle who plan to attend West Texas A&M University or Amarillo College and major in Computer Information Systems or Computer Science.

Brandy Lee Leard Memorial Scholarship

The Brandy Lee Leard Memorial Scholarship will provide a scholarship(s) to graduating high school seniors, currently enrolled college students, returning college students, or GED certificate holders from the northernmost 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle who are expecting a baby or who are actively involved in parenting their child and have the desire to obtain a post-secondary education. Recipients must maintain 2.5 cum GPA. Recipients attending a trade/vocational or community college can receive up to $1,500 per semester and recipients attending an accredited college/university can receive up to $3,500 per semester.

For ethnic minority students graduating from Hartley County, Moore County, and AISD high schools. Applicants can attend school of their choice. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 to apply.

C.C. "Bus" and Freda Dugger Endowed Scholarship Fund

Must have graduated from a high school in top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle and be a sophomore college student who will be attending West Texas A&M University for their junior year. Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA to apply and must maintain a cummulative GPA of 3.0. Must be enrolled as a full-time student.

Deaf Smith Electrical Scholarship, Inc.

The Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative (DSEC) Scholarship Fund will provide a one-time scholarship to students who plan to attend an accredited state-supported university, private university, junior college, or vocational school. Eligible applicants must be a member of DSEC or dependent of an active member of DSEC that resides with the active member; or be a dependent of a DSEC employee. High school seniors, as well as any student or prospective student who has not previously received this scholarship, will be eligible to apply. Eligible Counties: Castro, Deaf Smith, Oldham, and Parmer County.

Edith Lois Wilson 4-H Scholarship

For graduating high school seniors from District One of the Texas Agricultural Extension Service and plans to attend the college or university of his/her choice and major in their field of choice with preference given to those majoring in Human Science, Home Economics, or Family and Consumer Science. The applicant must be a member of 4-H, have taken the ACT or SAT and must have a 3.0 or greater GPA and graduate in the top 25% of the class.

For graduating high school seniors or currently enrolled college students in the State of Texas who are the children of dues paying members of the Texas Seed Trade Association. The recipient may attend any accredited college/university and may choose any field of study.

Gaylia Cochran Scholarship Fund

For graduating high school seniors from the Amarillo Independent School District who attended Lamar Elementary for a minimum of three years. Applicants must complete the ACT and/or SAT prior to submission of application to be considered eligible. Applicant must have a cumulative high school GPA of 80 in order to apply. Recipient must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better (on a 4.0 scale) in order to receive the second semester of funding.

Heather Hinkle Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund

For current college students who have completed 25% of a four year degree. Must have graduated from a high school within the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle. Students that have completed a bachelor’s degree and are continuing in a medical education are eligible. Applicant must have received a cancer diagnosis prior to their 18th birthday. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to apply.

For college students from the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle who are currently enrolled in and pursuing a degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy (the Pre and Assistant programs also apply) or Sports and Exercise Science with the intent to seek an advanced degree in Physical or Occupational Therapy at Amarillo College, West Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, or the University of Texas. Applicants have have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be eligible to apply and must maintain a GPA of 3.0.

Restricted to employees of the City of Amarillo, Texas who are pursuing a college degree to advance their career in municipal government. Applicant must have a 2.5 GPA.

For graduating high school seniors from Amarillo High School, Caprock High School, Palo Duro High School, and Tascosa high school who are in the top 15% of his/her class. Recipients may attend the school of his/her choice and major in any field of study. Recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA while attending college.

The foundation offers a variety of scholarships for different colleges/universities and fields of study and eligibility for scholarships is based on the student’s county of residence, planned college or university, and/or anticipated field of study. While most of the scholarship funds available are for graduating high school seniors, there are a few funds available for currently enrolled college students. We highly recommend you check for scholarships for which you are eligible BEFORE beginning the application process. The Foundation requires submission of a general online application form for most of its funds, which can be accessed in early January.

Louise Bowers Slentz Foundation Endowed Scholarship

For graduating high school seniors from Carson, Donley, Gray, Hemphill, Roberts or Wheeler counties who plan to attend an accredited regional college or university in the top 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle including Texas Tech University and South Plains Community College and major in any undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral field of study. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 to be eligible and Maintain a 2.5 or better cumulative GPA while in college.

John McGuire Memorial Scholarship

Based on nomination from school coaches. Each of the 4 AISD schools get to nominate 1 boy and 1 girl to receive the award. Students are interviewed by committee.

CNS Pantex Cooperative Grant Program

On behalf of Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC, responsible for the management and operations of the Pantex Plant, the Amarillo Area Foundation (AAF) announces a Request for Applications (RFA).

Organizations who fit the eligibility requirements and whose work is in line with the priorities are encouraged to apply. The priorities for funding are:
