For 30 years, the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation has served as a partner in philanthropy to credit unions, with a mission to empower and inspire credit unions in the Carolinas through collaborative opportunities to enrich our communities. A great example of this collaborative philanthropy is our scholarship program. 

More than 20 credit unions in North Carolina and South Carolina have active managed funds at the Foundation. The generosity of these credit unions helps hundreds of high school seniors as well as undergraduate and graduate students receive scholarship funds each year.

As a member of any of the following credit unions, you may apply for a scholarship. 

Summit Credit Union’s Elizabeth Hamilton Scholarship Fund

At Summit Credit Union, we believe that higher education is important - and that academic achievement should be rewarded. Each year, we give out a number of scholarships to deserving students from the region.

The Quailwood Scholarship Fund, established by Jonathan Schor, aims to enhance public services and the quality of life in Red Rock, New York. Funded by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, it provides grants for conservation, education, and community support. The advisory board, comprising local leaders and organizations, ensures that the fund meets the long-term needs of the community. The initiative fosters a strong sense of community and encourages diverse participation among residents, promoting economic mobility and a high quality of life.

The Replogle, Greg Scholarship, established by the Beatrice Educational Foundation, offers a $1,000 award to a graduating senior from Beatrice High School pursuing a nursing career. Candidates must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and be active members of their class. Preference is given to students involved in extracurricular activities during their junior and senior years. This scholarship aims to support students in their higher education endeavors, ensuring they have the financial resources needed for success.

First Choice Members Scholarship ($2,000)

Applicants must be a current First Choice by Select Health member and provide their member ID# for this non-renewable scholarship. 

The Dr. Horacio R. Villarreal Scholarship Fund aims to enhance the quality of life in the Coastal Bend by supporting current college students pursuing careers in the medical field. Funded by the Coastal Bend Community Foundation, this scholarship is available to juniors and seniors from specific counties with a minimum GPA of 3.0, providing essential financial assistance to future healthcare professionals.

The Studebaker National Foundation Scholarship supports students pursuing careers in automotive studies. With over $20,000 awarded for technical and trade education in auto restoration, this scholarship encourages applicants to maintain the legacy of Studebaker. Eligible candidates include those studying automotive fields or those engaged with Studebaker as hobbyists. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required, and preference is given to members of Studebaker clubs or their relatives. Reapplications from previous recipients are allowed.

The Nathan Cummings Foundation offers Venture Grants to support social entrepreneurs with innovative solutions addressing inequality and climate change. These short-term grants aim to foster partnerships and expedite necessary funding. The foundation prioritizes projects aligned with its mission of advancing racial, economic, and environmental justice, focusing on systemic change through a holistic approach. Eligible applicants must demonstrate alignment with the foundation's values of diversity, equity, and inclusion to qualify for funding opportunities.

The Artist's Resource Trust (A.R.T.) Fund supports mid-career visual artists in New England, providing unrestricted fellowships to those who demonstrate financial need. Established in 1996, it aims to enhance artists' creative abilities through grants for supplies, rent, and travel. Eligible artists must reside in the region for at least two years and have a minimum of ten years of active practice. A.R.T. is building an endowment to ensure its support continues indefinitely.

The Jalufka - Patricia Jalufka Endowed Scholarship, offered by the Coastal Bend Community Foundation, aims to enhance educational opportunities for high school and college students from the Coastal Bend. This scholarship targets those majoring in Education, particularly in teaching reading or diagnosing reading disabilities, providing support to foster academic excellence and community development.

The Leonard C. and Jeannette W. Varkal Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, supports high-achieving seniors from Berlin, New Britain, and Plainville, CT. Eligible candidates must rank in the top 10% of their class or maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, pursuing degrees in Education or Business. Preference is given to those demonstrating financial need, ensuring support for dedicated students committed to enhancing their communities through education.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) seeks to advance its mission by continuing support for a Clinical Research Network on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). AMR is a major health challenge that limits treatment options and allows resistant infections to persist. Individuals with chronic conditions like diabetes and cancer are particularly vulnerable, resulting in increased illness and death as well as higher healthcare costs in the United States. The program aims to design, implement, and manage clinical research addressing key clinical questions in AMR. Research will focus on bacterial and fungal infections associated with AMR. Areas of emphasis include clinical testing of new antibiotics and other treatments such as bacteriophage therapy, methods optimizing the use of existing antibiotics, evaluating novel diagnostic tests including using diagnostics to refine treatment strategies, and mentoring the next generation of AMR clinical researchers. Grant authorities that allow NIAID to forecast this opportunity are as follows: Sections 301 and 405 of the Public Health Service Act as amended (42 USC 241 and 284) and under Federal Regulations 42 CFR Part 52 and 2 CFR Part 200.

The Joyce Bright Scholarship Award, established by the Tulsa Community Foundation in 1998, aims to provide financial assistance for higher education to deserving students. Eligible applicants are high school graduates from Tulsa County, Oklahoma, who have demonstrated academic excellence by ranking in the top 3% of their class. The Sociological Initiatives Foundation Grant supports research linking social action to addressing systemic inequalities in the U.S., funding projects that tackle racism, classism, and human rights violations. It prioritizes initiatives that foster partnerships between academia and community organizations, aiming to enhance advocacy and public knowledge. Grants typically range from $15 to $25,000, emphasizing research with tangible community impacts rather than mere reporting. The Foundation seeks projects that can fundamentally change societal structures and improve equity.

The RAE Family Community Scholarship, established by the Tulsa Community Foundation, supports high school graduates from Mayes County, Oklahoma, seeking to enroll in undergraduate programs. Since its inception in 1998, the Tulsa Community Foundation has been dedicated to enhancing the community through charitable efforts and grants, ensuring that all individuals and families can thrive. This scholarship is a vital resource for students aiming to further their education and make a positive impact in their communities.

The Japan America Society / Japan Society Capacity Building Grant Program supports grassroots initiatives aimed at enhancing mutual understanding between the U.S. and Japan. The program prioritizes projects that foster collaboration and demonstrate sustainability, ensuring a lasting positive impact on communities.

The John S. Russo Memorial Scholarship, administered by the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, supports graduating high school seniors from New Britain pursuing technical college degrees, especially in manufacturing. This scholarship emphasizes financial need and qualities like community involvement and leadership. By encouraging students with innovative thinking and a passion for technical education, the foundation aims to foster a skilled workforce that contributes positively to the local community.

The Yip Harburg Foundation Grant supports projects that promote economic and social justice through grants and scholarships. This foundation honors the legacy of E.Y. "Yip" Harburg by funding theater programs that convey socially responsible messages. Grants range from $500 to $5,000 and are available to registered 501c3 organizations. Applications are reviewed quarterly, so interested parties should ensure their projects align with the foundation's mission.

The Terry Hessong Memorial Scholarship, offered by the Tulsa Community Foundation, supports students graduating from high school in Nowata County, Oklahoma. Established in 1998, the Tulsa Community Foundation is dedicated to enhancing communities through charitable initiatives. This scholarship exemplifies their commitment to investing in local education and empowering the next generation. By providing financial assistance, the foundation aims to foster academic achievement and enrich the lives of students in the region.

We are an independent foundation which has been serving Seventh-day Adventist ministries and a select few other humanitarian efforts with financial grants since 1990. We are a self-funded lay organization, and our board is comprised of both lay Adventists and present and former Adventist church employees, all committed to furthering the Kingdom of God and to restoring the “image of God” in those in need.

Journalism for Adventist Solutions (JAS) 

Journalism for Adventist Solutions (JAS) grants aim to promote ethical reporting and diverse storytelling by encouraging integrity, creativity, and journalistic excellence in Adventist communication through targeted grant funding. 

The JAS grant application is open year-round, with funds awarded annually each March and September.

Project Priorities

• Systemic issues in Adventism that demand investigation and fresh thinking
• Journalists and media organizations producing major stories on vital issues related to Adventism
• New ways to communicate the diverse Adventist-related stories of what God is doing
• Awards and recognition to celebrate journalistic achievements and foster a culture of excellence in ethical storytelling
• Evaluation methods to maintain accountability and ethics in Adventist communication
• Courses, workshops, and mentorship programs to enhance journalist skills, ethics, and innovative practices in Adventist communication
• Travel, technology, stipends and honoraria as relevant to the project request
• Other projects similar to the above

Applicants must agree to provide a post-grant report, including a full financial accounting of how JAS monies were used and agree to be audited if requested.

The Leonard Litz Foundation supports LGBTQ+ organizations through grants that promote health, wellness, crisis intervention, racial justice, advocacy, and social assistance. Priority is given to organizations in the northeast U.S. and those serving communities of color and transgender individuals. Applications that clearly link funding requests to specific needs will receive stronger consideration. The foundation aims to foster a supportive environment for the LGBTQ+ community to thrive.

The Cliff and Cyd Friedman Scholarship Fund of the Dallas Jewish Community Foundation supports local upper-class undergraduate students with two $5,000 awards. Designed for those who have completed at least 60 college credits at a local community college, this scholarship aids in the transition to a four-year institution. This initiative not only alleviates financial burdens but also encourages educational advancement, reflecting the Foundation's commitment to enhancing the Greater Dallas Jewish community and fostering academic success.

The BJA FY 2026 Adult Treatment Court Program aims to enhance Adult Treatment Court operations, focusing on preventing overdoses and reducing substance use among high-risk adults in the criminal justice system. The program integrates judicial supervision, substance use disorder treatment, and recovery support services to improve outcomes for participants. This funding opportunity from the U.S. Department of Justice highlights the commitment to public safety and addressing critical issues like the opioid crisis.

The Institutional Project Support (IPS) Grant Program by the Japan Foundation aims to enhance Japanese studies in the U.S. by providing up to $150,000 annually for three years. Eligible U.S. institutions must match the grant and focus on innovative proposals that stimulate growth in Japanese studies. The program prioritizes projects that create tenured positions and address national needs, while excluding political or commercial activities. Grants cover faculty salaries, travel, and teaching materials.

The U.S. Air Force Academy Association & Foundation presents the Young Alumni Excellence Award to honor recent graduates who exemplify leadership, service, and excellence. This award recognizes individuals who have made significant professional or philanthropic contributions within 0 to 15 years of graduation. Nominees must maintain high standards of integrity and character, reflecting the prestigious values of the Air Force Academy while positively impacting their communities.

The NIOSH K01 grant offers vital support for early-career researchers in occupational health, providing 'protected time' for mentorship and professional development. This funding aims to bridge the gap from postdoctoral training to independent research, fostering the next generation of investigators. By emphasizing skill enhancement and independence, the program plays a crucial role in advancing safety and health research. Applicants must articulate their mentorship needs and demonstrate the potential for increased autonomy in their research careers.

The Salad Bars to Schools Grant, initiated by the Chef Ann Foundation, aims to provide salad bar equipment to U.S. schools, enhancing children's access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Launched in 2010, this initiative tackles childhood obesity by ensuring nutritious options in school meals. Eligible applicants receive technical support and free enrollments in educational courses to maximize the impact of their salad bars. By promoting healthy eating habits, the program strives to improve children's overall health and well-being.

The Inspire the Future Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, aims to support graduating high school seniors from Calumet County who have experienced foster care. Eligible students must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstrate a commitment to personal growth and academic success. This scholarship not only alleviates financial burdens for college or vocational training but also fosters a supportive community environment for those in need.
