Best Adult Education Grants

The Jeannette Rankin National Scholar Grant supports women and nonbinary students aged 35 and older, providing up to $2,500 annually for technical or vocational education, associate’s degrees, or first bachelor’s degrees. The Adult Education and Literacy Basic Grants, provided by the Illinois Community College Board, aim to enhance literacy and education for eligible adults, including incarcerated individuals. This program aligns with Title II of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014, supporting individuals in achieving a secondary diploma and transitioning into postsecondary education. It also focuses on assisting immigrants and English language learners in improving their skills and understanding of government responsibilities.

The Tribal Scholar Grant, offered by the Jeannette Rankin Foundation, supports women, nonbinary, and Two-Spirit students aged 25 and older attending Tribal Colleges. Support includes financial assistance, academic guidance, and a connection to the Ford Family alumni community, aiming to empower students in their pursuit of an associate or bachelor’s degree.

The Lowell Teachers Scholarships, offered by Harvard University, allow middle and high school teachers to enroll in one Extension School course per term at half the tuition cost. This initiative promotes professional development by making Harvard's rigorous academic programs accessible to educators. Limited scholarships are available, encouraging early application. Note that these scholarships cannot be used for summer courses or combined with other financial aid, ensuring focused support for teachers dedicated to enhancing their skills.

The Kwan Fong Scholarship, offered by Harvard University, provides financial support for one course each fall and spring term to candidates enrolled in the ALM in management or finance program. To be considered, applicants must complete all required financial aid application materials by the priority deadline. The Federal Pell Grant provides financial assistance to undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional financial need. Administered by the U.S. Department of Education, eligibility is determined through the FAFSA application. Award amounts vary based on the student's financial situation and enrollment status, with a maximum duration of six years of full-time enrollment. This grant aims to make higher education accessible to all qualified individuals, facilitating lifelong learning opportunities.

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences Special Student Scholarship at Harvard supports Bachelor of Liberal Arts candidates who are admitted as Special Students. This scholarship, awarded by the Extension School, covers tuition for one undergraduate course per term, provided it aligns with the student's field of study and isn't available in the Extension School curriculum. Recipients are selected based on financial need and academic merit, requiring a minimum GPA of 3.33.

The Richard Newcomb and Janice Schreiber-Newcomb Scholarship, established by Effie Schreiber in memory of her children, supports students in the Shawano area pursuing higher education. Full-time students can receive $1,000, while part-time students are eligible for $500. This non-renewable scholarship encourages annual applications as long as students maintain enrollment at accredited institutions. The scholarship honors the legacy of Richard and Janice, who were community-oriented and dedicated to education.

The Robert and Amy Sanders Experienced Student Scholarship, a $500 non-renewable award, supports adult learners at pivotal points in their lives, inspired by the founders' own educational journeys. This scholarship aims to assist individuals seeking to commence new careers or advance in their current roles through education. To maintain eligibility, recipients must register as part-time or full-time students at Fox Valley Technical College for the fall semester.

The Wisconsin Women’s Alliance Foundation Scholarship offers three non-renewable awards of $2,000 each for students attending an accredited 2- or 4-year institution. These awards are intended to assist with the first semester's cost of attendance. Students must maintain part-time or full-time enrollment to retain eligibility. This scholarship seeks to empower women in the community through education and support.

The Worcester County Food Bank Fund to End Hunger, established in 2011, aims to support nonprofit organizations dedicated to eradicating hunger in Worcester County. It focuses on increasing access to healthy foods, enhancing the capacity of food-serving organizations, and advocating for policy changes that benefit marginalized communities. Eligible applicants include all 501(c)(3) nonprofits serving this area, while individuals and businesses are not supported. This grant encourages collaboration with the Hunger-Free Network.

Adults and traditional students pursuing vocational or technical education in Wyoming County, West Virginia can access funding through the Wyoming County Community Fund. Administered by Beckley Area Foundation, this non-renewable scholarship supports residents with a 2.5+ GPA, work experience or strong community service, including GED holders and adults returning to school.

Girls and women pursuing further education, including traditional and nontraditional adult students in the U.S., can receive scholarship support for higher or continuing education costs. Scranton Area Foundation’s Irene Zurine Memorial Scholarship assists those advancing their studies, which may benefit adult education learners seeking degrees, credentials, or returning-to-college opportunities.

Midland County nonprofits providing adult education or support services for women can access funding through the Service Club Alliance, coordinated by Midland Area Community Foundation. Applications use a common form shared with participating clubs, including the Zonta Club, and may support programs advancing women’s rights, equality, and educational opportunities for non-traditional or returning students.

North Carolina adult education students seeking to start or return to college can access funding through the North Carolina Community Foundation’s Raleigh Alumnae Delta Scholarship Endowment for Non-traditional Students. This scholarship supports adult learners entering two- or four-year colleges, universities, or technical programs, with special consideration for Black/African American women aged 30 and above.

Adult women aged 30 and older pursuing technical, vocational, associate, or bachelor’s degrees in the U.S. or Canada can access funding through the Women on Par Scholarship. Offered by the LPGA Amateur Golf Association, this program supports non-traditional students in higher and adult education who demonstrate financial need.

Geraldine Stephenson Scholarship

The Geraldine Stephenson Continuing Education Scholarship Endowment, administered by the Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center Volunteers, provides a yearly grant of no more than $10,000 to an individual/s in a medically-related field. Geraldine "Gerry" Stephenson was a charter member of the Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center Auxiliary and served as bookkeeper for the Gift Shop for 15 years. In memory of Gerry and her ideals, this endowment has been established. It is intended to support and encourage those who lack the opportunity or means to continue an education. Its purpose is to provide assistance to those who wish to continue to work toward a vocational or undergraduate degree and who, due to 1) financial need and 2) current or past family responsibilities and/or other personal disabilities have had their higher education interrupted for an extended period of at least five years or more or have been unable to complete their education due to hardship.

This scholarship will enable candidates to pursue their education by providing funds to help cover the cost of tuition, books and other school-related fees as long as they meet academic standards of a 3.0 GPA.

National Collegiate Cancer Foundation

The National Collegiate Cancer Foundation (NCCF) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting young adults diagnosed with or impacted by cancer. Its mission is to provide services, resources, and need-based financial assistance that empower survivors and their families to adopt a resilient “Will Win” mindset throughout treatment and beyond. NCCF is one of the few national organizations that provides direct financial support to young adult cancer survivors, primarily through its Survivor and Legacy Scholarships, which assist students pursuing higher education during or after treatment. The Foundation also promotes cancer awareness and prevention within the young adult community. Recognizing that adolescents and young adults (ages 15–39) face unique challenges—including delayed diagnoses, limited access to insurance and clinical trials, fertility concerns, employment disruption, and social isolation—NCCF prioritizes addressing the significant service gaps affecting this underserved population. Operated entirely by volunteers, NCCF remains committed to advancing educational access, financial relief, and hope for young adult cancer survivors nationwide.

NCCF: Survivor Scholarship Program

The National Collegiate Cancer Foundation (NCCF) Survivor Scholarship Program provides a competitive scholarships to young adults who are cancer survivors or current patients and are pursuing higher education during or after treatment. The program supports students who have demonstrated resilience and continued their educational journey despite the challenges of cancer. Applications are evaluated based on six criteria: demonstration of a strong “Will Win” attitude, quality of essays, financial need, overall cancer survivorship story, commitment to education, and the quality of recommendations. The scholarship recognizes perseverance, hope, and dedication to academic and personal growth.

NCCF: Legacy Scholarship Program

The National Collegiate Cancer Foundation (NCCF) offers $1,000 competitive scholarships to young adults pursuing higher education who have lost a parent or guardian to cancer. The award is designed to provide financial assistance and encouragement to students continuing their education despite personal loss. Applications are evaluated based on the applicant’s personal journey, sources of encouragement, demonstrated financial need, notable accomplishments, and the quality of recommendations. The scholarship recognizes resilience, perseverance, and academic commitment in the face of cancer-related loss.

The Springfield Teachers Club Scholarship Fund, managed by the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, supports graduates of Springfield public high schools residing in Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire Counties. The fund offers scholarships up to $3,000 to eligible students enrolling in accredited post-secondary schools. Applicants are advised to consult with their financial aid offices, as scholarship awards may affect financial aid packages. This initiative aims to promote educational opportunities for local students.

The Scholarship Program

The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts administers over 160 scholarships. Some of the funds help students from a particular school or area; others provide financial assistance to those pursuing a specific field of study; still others assist students that are most in need. Students who apply to the Scholarship program may be eligible for many of these funds.

• Scholarships may be used to offset tuition, fees, room and board, and other items included as part of the cost for attending the institution. 
• Most scholarships are for students who live in Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden Counties. However, some are also available to students who live in Berkshire County and Hartford County in Connecticut.
• We offer scholarships to those who attend on either a full-time or part-time basis. 
• Any student who plans to enroll for the upcoming fall semester, in any year of college as an undergraduate or graduate student and who will attend an accredited post-secondary school in the United States may apply.
• Scholarships are provided for one academic year and are not automatically renewed each year. You can reapply to our program every year you are going to attend college, and the application you submit that year will be considered for all scholarships for which you are eligible.

Professional Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Western Mass., Inc. Scholarship Fund for Women

To support women, age 25 or older, from greater Springfield who have had a break in their education wishing to return to the work force and are attending accredited colleges in Hampden and Hampshire Counties.

The New Beginnings Scholarship Fund for Unhoused Youth, managed by the San Diego Foundation, aims to support San Diego County residents who have experienced homelessness during high school. This scholarship is available to a diverse group of students, including high school seniors and adult re-entry students, enabling them to pursue post-secondary education or vocational training. By addressing educational access and housing instability, the fund promotes long-term stability and success for these individuals.

The Pelucca-Muller Scholarship Fund, managed by The San Diego Foundation, provides financial support to a diverse group of students from San Diego County pursuing post-secondary education. It aims to promote educational access for high school seniors, current college students, community college attendees, and adult learners. With a focus on those demonstrating financial need and maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0, this scholarship fosters opportunities across various educational pathways.

PFund Foundation

PFund Foundation builds equity with LGBTQ+ communities across the Upper Midwest by providing grants and scholarships, developing leaders, and inspiring giving.

PFund Foundation Scholarship

PFund Scholarship Grants are for LGBTQ+ students of all ages who are either from or studying in the Upper Midwest. Grants range from $1,000-$12,000 and can be used for a wide variety of expenses and programs. Scholarships also include a lifetime membership to the PFund Scholar Alumni program which includes annual professional development and networking opportunities. There is one application window per year.
