Grants are provided for projects and programs that promote the general welfare and good of the Montecito community. By the terms of its founding documents, the Montecito Community Foundation confines its support to projects located in Montecito which is defined as within the boundaries of the Montecito Fire Protection District, as well as Coast Village Road.

Some of the areas in which we have provided grants are:

• Projects which promote public safety and property protection, such as traffic improvements, fire protection, flood control, and earthquake and disaster preparedness.
• Projects and events which foster the community and spirit of Montecito, such as community celebrations, events honoring individuals or groups for improving our community and events which encourage greater community involvement.
• Activities which inform residents of Montecito on local and other matters, such as public forums on matters of current interest or concern, library resources, and other public resource information services.
• Beautification and improvement of our public roads, parks, local government properties, and other public places.
• Improvement and, occasionally, acquisition of recreational facilities, such as parks, open spaces, beach-side entrances, trail heads, and trails.

The Community Enhancement Program, funded by San Diego County, supports local non-profit entities aiming to enhance tourism and economic development. Eligible activities include cultural programs, museums, and visitor bureaus, all designed to enrich community life. Non-profits can apply for funding to create jobs and improve the quality of life in San Diego County. Monarch Watch offers a Free Milkweeds Grant for habitat restoration projects aimed at supporting the monarch butterfly population. American Youth Services Grant Program

The American Youth Services Fund was established in 2022 to continue the legacy of the American Youth Services nonprofit organization. The primary purpose is to make grants to Mendocino County nonprofits that encourage personal enrichment exploration among disadvantaged youth and adults within group experiences in the natural environment.

This Fund awards grants two times per year, during the spring and the fall. 

Priority will be given to projects that: 

• Encourage personal enrichment exploration among disadvantaged youth and young adults within group experiences in the natural outdoor environment.
• Expose youth to the beautiful and unique environment and ecosystems of Mendocino County to deepen their connection to the larger Earth/ Creation.
• Encourage personal faith/ spiritual exploration.
• Inspire stewardship of our lands and oceans.
• Foster a sense of individual well-being, a sense of shared welfare, and communal participation.

Projects will also be considered that:

• Enable Mendocino County youth to travel to experience the natural world and culture outside of Mendocino County for similar purposes.
• Support programs and organizations on the Mendocino Coast that improve the quality of life for youth to help all to develop a healthy mindset and to make positive contributions to the world. 

The A.J. Muste Memorial Institute's Social Justice Fund Grant supports grassroots activist projects in the U.S. and abroad, focusing on those with limited funding access. Prioritizing efforts to dismantle systemic injustices, the grant seeks proposals from organizations lacking mainstream support, especially those addressing issues like immigration violence, racial inequalities, and economic exploitation. The fund emphasizes direct activism and diverse leadership, making it a vital resource for community-driven initiatives in the pursuit of social justice.
