CART Discovery Grant

Projects are intended for new/early-stage faculty only (i.e, instructor, assistant professor, or equivalent, with institutional privileges to serve as PI on federal grants).

Areas of research can range from basic, translational and clinical investigations. Studies of pre- clinical phases of disease and approaches useful in differentiating disease processes from normal aging, as well as multi-etiology dementia, early interventions, imaging and biomarkers, are encouraged. Applicants may consult with ADRC scientists for strategic and statistical advice.

Please write a cover letter and include affirmation that this is a NEW pilot project and not supported by federal or non-federal sponsored grants. The applicant may request a project period of up to one year with a budget for DIRECT COSTS of up to $50,000. CART will send payment for these Pilot Grants at the beginning of the project. INDIRECT COST RECOVERY IS NOT ALLOWED.

Watershed Assistance Grant Program

The Watershed Assistance Grant Program (WAGP) is a partnership between the Trust, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MD DNR), the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), and the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WV DEP). This program provides funding for early-stage watershed restoration design and planning projects in Maryland and West Virginia, as well as in the Octoraro Creek and Conowingo Creek watersheds in Chester and Lancaster Counties, Pennsylvania. Funding for eligible Pennsylvania projects is provided through MDE. Program goals include supporting project readiness, advancing projects toward future implementation, and aligning project development with local and state watershed plans.

Track 1 – Project Design

• Generally, requests are up to $100,000 for the design of best management practices (BMPs), including the following:
  • Bioretention cells and large-scale rain gardens;
  • Stormwater management practices, that include low-impact development (LID) techniques, green infrastructure (GI), water quality BMPs, and environmental site design (ESD),
  • Submerged gravel wetlands, and
  • Agricultural BMPs.
• Generally, requests are up to $150,000 for design of
  • Stream restoration practices,
  • Wetland and marsh creation/restoration projects, and
  • Living shorelines.

Marine Sewage Pumpout Facility Grant

The Department of Natural Resources provides a reimbursement of up to $20,000 to marinas for the purchase and installation of marine sewage pumpout facilities. Marinas that install these systems provide boaters with a proper method of disposing of their sewage and thus contribute to cleaning up Maryland waters. Grant funding is also available for a reimbursement of pumpout operations and pumpout operations and maintenance, pumpout upgrades and replacement. This program is funded by the Federal Clean Vessel Act (75%) with supporting funds (25%) from the Maryland Waterway Improvement Fund.

The FY 2027-2028 NESDIS Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) invites innovative research, education, and outreach projects that support NOAA's mission without directly benefiting the agency. With funding contingent on appropriations, applicants are notified that funds are not yet available. About Patrick "Packy" McGaughan A popular instructor in Area II, Packy operated Banbury Cross Farm in Clarksburg, Maryland. The farm was developed into a premier training, breeding and boarding facility, specializing in eventing, dressage, hunters, and equitation. Packy produced numerous horses and riders to the highest level of the sport. He was a top instructor in Area II for both juniors, amateurs, and professionals alike and could often be found at events up and down the East Coast coaching riders of all ages and levels.

About Patrick “Packy” McGaughan Prize

Following his passing, an award in Packy McGaughan’s honor was established through the USEA Foundation. That award includes a beautiful bronze trophy and award recipients will be recognized at the USEA Annual Meeting and Convention, and a $5,000 award given annually to a USEA member who demonstrates a love of the sport similar to Packy.
