The Scholarship Program

The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts administers over 160 scholarships. Some of the funds help students from a particular school or area; others provide financial assistance to those pursuing a specific field of study; still others assist students that are most in need. Students who apply to the Scholarship program may be eligible for many of these funds.

• Scholarships may be used to offset tuition, fees, room and board, and other items included as part of the cost for attending the institution. 
• Most scholarships are for students who live in Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden Counties. However, some are also available to students who live in Berkshire County and Hartford County in Connecticut.
• We offer scholarships to those who attend on either a full-time or part-time basis. 
• Any student who plans to enroll for the upcoming fall semester, in any year of college as an undergraduate or graduate student and who will attend an accredited post-secondary school in the United States may apply.
• Scholarships are provided for one academic year and are not automatically renewed each year. You can reapply to our program every year you are going to attend college, and the application you submit that year will be considered for all scholarships for which you are eligible.

National Assoc. of Insurance and Financial Advisors Scholarship Fund

To support graduating high school seniors from Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire Counties who have a parent who is deceased or have a parent who receives Social Security disability benefits.

The Theodore P. (Ted) Minor Memorial Scholarship Fund, administered by the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, supports graduating seniors from Chicopee high schools. This fund is part of a broader scholarship program that provides financial assistance to eligible students from multiple counties, helping to offset costs associated with attending accredited post-secondary institutions. By promoting accessibility to education, the scholarship aims to enrich the lives of students in the community.

The E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation, established in 1975, supports performing arts initiatives in Richmond, Virginia. Grants are available to public charities with a connection to the Carpenters and are intended for specific projects or operational support. The Foundation does not fund private education, individuals, or large public charities. Its mission is to enhance the cultural landscape of Richmond through dedicated support to the performing arts.

The Public Art Building Communities (PABC) grant program, offered by the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities, aims to support artists and organizations in creating new public art installations. Projects must be accessible to the public and can be either temporary or permanent, with specific guidelines regarding maintenance and sustainability. Applicants must engage with the local Advisory Neighborhood Commission to secure support and promote community involvement in the project's design and execution.

The Saranac Lake Public School Education Fund, supported by the Adirondack Foundation, enhances education for students in Saranac Lake. It promotes open-mindedness and exploration through various programs, such as symposia, arts, and literacy initiatives. Recent funded projects include the Harvard Model United Nations Program and Media Literacy Program, aimed at fostering critical thinking and civic engagement. This fund emphasizes the crucial role of public education in maintaining an open society and protecting freedoms.

The DCCF Emergency Grants provide crucial support to nonprofit and governmental organizations in DeKalb County, IL, facing urgent funding needs due to unforeseen events. This initiative aims to ensure that essential services continue without interruption. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits and public sector organizations, while avoiding support for routine operational costs and other ineligible expenses. By prioritizing immediate community needs, the DeKalb County Community Foundation fosters resilience and equity within the region.

First National Bank Amherst Centennial Education Scholarship Fund

Support graduating seniors from Amherst College, Hampshire College and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, entering a graduate school

Support graduating seniors of Amherst Regional High School, Hopkins Academy, Northampton High School

The Lurleen V. Holland Church Improvement Grant, provided by the Community Foundation of West Georgia, supports capital improvements for predominately African American churches in Carroll County, Georgia. This grant prioritizes brick-and-mortar projects that enhance church facilities, enabling them to better serve their communities. Eligible churches must have been established for at least 10 years and provide a 25% cash match for project costs. Limitations exist on funding for furnishings and grants per church over a five-year period.

The Native Plant Society of New Mexico is dedicated to educating the public about native plants and fostering conservation efforts. Through donations, they support regional herbaria that archive biodiversity and promote botanical research. Their contributions aid in digitizing herbarium specimens for broader access, ensuring the preservation of ecological knowledge. This initiative invites other herbaria in New Mexico and West Texas to apply for funding, enhancing collaborative efforts in plant conservation and education.

Captain John Maloney Scholarship Fund

To support residents of Hampden County with at least one award to a graduating high school senior from Chicopee High School.

Additional Guidelines

• Students can receive up to $3,000 in scholarships from the Community Foundation.
• Scholarship awards could impact the financial aid offered by a college, and students are advised to check with their college financial aid offices about this.
• Scholarships may be used to offset tuition, fees, room and board, and other items included as part of the cost for attending the institution. Some part and/or all the award could be considered taxable income. It is advisable students check with the college or tax accountant regarding this matter.

Alger Regional Community FoundationThe Alger Regional Community Foundation (ARCF) is a locally based 501(C)(3) nonprofit corporation dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Alger County through grants and scholarships.

ARCF is a unique institution. It is a permanent, yet flexible, collection of endowment funds contributed by people from all walks of life who want to make a difference in our community.

Munising Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Unendowed FundGiven to an Alger County graduate who has completed one full year (2 semesters) in the medical field. Students may receive scholarships twice, providing college transcripts.

The DDIF: Toothbrush Donations program, supported by the Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation, aims to improve oral health by providing essential dental supplies like toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss. Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply year-round, emphasizing the importance of including an oral health education component in their projects. This initiative not only addresses immediate dental care needs but also promotes long-term oral hygiene practices.

The Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation offers System and Capacity Building Grants to enhance the health and well-being of all Iowans. These grants, starting at $25,000, focus on significant infrastructure and system changes aligned with core initiatives such as oral health integration and health equity. The Foundation encourages applicants to consult staff before applying, ensuring that projects align with strategic goals in education, advocacy, access, prevention, and research.

Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) Scholarships

The Community Foundation is home to a variety of scholarships designated to benefit a graduating senior from Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS). 

Traverse City Administrators’ Association Scholarship Fund (Central, West, TC High)

Available to a worthy senior who is pursuing a career in education.

One scholarship is awarded annually at each Central, West, and Traverse City High School.

Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation

The Community Foundation is home to a variety of scholarships designated to benefit a graduating senior from Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS). .

Tompkins Scholarship Endowment (Central, West, TC High)

The Tompkins Scholarship Endowment was established to provide scholarship awards to benefit graduates from Traverse City Area Public Schools. Awards will be based primarily on academic achievement without consideration of financial need. Individual scholarship awards are intended to be significant in nature and may be renewable for future years. To qualify, students must be attending a public, in-state college/university.

Traverse City Track Club Scholarship Endowment (Regional)

Available to graduating high school seniors or current college students from Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska or Leelanau County. Eligible students will have demonstrated involvement with running, as a high school or college athlete or through participation in organized running events.

Stan and Martha Scarborough Scholarship Endowment (Regional)

Available to individuals, up to 24, from Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, or Leelanau County who have aged out of foster care.

The Ohio Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship, established by the AMA Foundation, aims to support future physician leaders through substantial tuition assistance. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in an accredited U.S. medical school, entering their final year, and demonstrate financial need. This scholarship fosters a commitment to health equity and encourages involvement in organized medicine. Applications are typically due in the first quarter of each year, ensuring that funds are directed towards tuition costs only.

The American Association for Anatomy (AAA) is the professional home for more than 2,000 students, teachers, and practitioners of the anatomical sciences.

Short-Term Visiting Scholarship

Provides travel expenses for members to facilitate visiting a laboratory or participating in a course outside their home institution.

LGBTQ Pride Scholarship Fund (Regional)

Available to LGBTQ+ students and students who see themselves as LGBTQ+ allies that are pursuing post-secondary education. Graduating seniors from a public high school within Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau Counties are eligible to apply.

The Henry Gray Distinguished Educator Award, presented by the American Association for Anatomy, recognizes exceptional contributions in human anatomy education across various formats, including gross anatomy and embryology. This prestigious award is open to full-time or emeritus faculty who are current AAA members. Nominees must submit a nomination form along with letters of recommendation. The award includes a $2,000 travel stipend for attending the AAA Annual Meeting, supporting educators dedicated to advancing anatomical sciences.

Available to support single mothers who are enrolled in a post-secondary degree program and reside in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, or Leelanau County. Preference is given to those pursuing programs in the medical or health care field.

John S.E. Dieckman Husky Scholarship Endowment (Benzie County)

Available to graduating seniors from Benzie County Central Schools planning to pursue postsecondary education including a certificate or degree program at an accredited school. Emphasis is placed on character, citizenship, and service to the school and community. Financial need is also a consideration.

Jim Ooley Scholarship Fund (Central, West)

When Jim Ooley retired in 1993 after 39 years of teaching and coaching, it was his desire to establish a scholarship fund to recognize an outstanding senior student athlete whose dedication and leadership exemplifies the ideals for which Jim Ooley stood.

One scholarship is awarded annually at each Central and West.
