The W. L. and Louise E. Seymour Foundation Grant provides financial support for initiatives benefiting handicapped and homeless children, as well as charitable organizations for the elderly in Texas. This grant aims to enhance the quality of life for vulnerable populations by funding essential services and resources. Women’s Philanthropy Fund

In 2008, Amarillo Area Foundation and a group of community-minded women established the Women’s Philanthropy Fund (WPF) to address the needs of women and children in the Texas Panhandle. In 2022, the WPF moved from a membership-only model to the opportunity for ANY individual, family, or business with a passion to support the critical needs of women and children in our region, to contribute and have a direct impact on the well-being of women and children in the Texas Panhandle… in all areas of life. 

Our Mission

To transform the lives of women and children in the Texas Panhandle through fundraising, grant-making, and advocacy.

Grant award amounts will vary between $2,500 and $10,000. WPF is focused on the needs of women and children that serve an urgent or critical need and/or demonstrate unique solutions to time-worn problems and/or engage in bold new ventures. Eligible programs will address one or more of the focus areas described below, in a manner that creates impact, shows innovation, and involves others in a collaborative manner.

Organizations or programs should address:

Self-sufficiency: Programs that provide women with the skills and resources to be economically independent and self-sufficient. Examples of such programs may include but are not limited to:

• Access to emergency shelter or affordable housing;
• Access to affordable, quality day care and after school programs for children;
• Prevention of or assistance in overcoming homelessness or poverty;
• Transportation assistance;
• Education and training programs targeted toward job skills, budgeting and money management, parenting skills, etc.

Health and Safety: Programs that support the health and well-being of women and children and allow them to live in homes and communities without fear of violence. Examples of such programs may include but are not limited to:

• Healthcare-related education and awareness programs;
• Access to preventive medical screenings;
• Low or no-cost medical services for uninsured or medically needy women and children;
• Programs that instill leadership and build esteem in women/children.

 The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (the Department or TDHCA) announces an annual Notice of Funding Availability for Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) funds for street outreach, emergency shelter, homeless prevention, rapid re-housing, Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), and Administration.

The Fund for Veterans' Assistance (FVA) provides critical funding opportunities for organizations serving veterans through various programs. The Veterans County Service Officer (VCSO) Funding Opportunity, established by SB 1679, offers a competitive advantage for applications listing a VCSO as Project Coordinator. Eligible entities include local government units and certain nonprofit organizations, ensuring comprehensive support for veterans in Texas.

The Fund for Veterans' Assistance (FVA) offers General Assistance Grants to support veterans and their families in Texas. Eligible applicants include charitable organizations and local governments that provide essential services such as financial aid, housing support, and skill training. Grants are awarded to programs addressing veteran homelessness, business support, and legal assistance. Organizations must apply through the Grants Portal, and previous recipients are not eligible for renewal. This initiative aims to enhance the welfare of Texas veterans.

Grant Application

Organizations whose mission aligns with the Foundation’s traditional Catholic values and donor intent are welcome to submit an application. 

Strake Foundation generally adheres to a schedule of 3 meetings per year, in February, July, and November. Grants are restricted to qualified nonprofit organizations holding tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. .

Donor Intent Guidelines

The Board of Directors adheres strictly to the following Donor Intent Guidelines, listed in order of priority:

• Judeo-Christian Religious Organizations: With priority given to Catholic institutions.
• Hospitals and Medical Research: With priority given to women’s health and pro-life causes.
• Private Secondary and Higher Education: With priority given to institutions aligned with Item 1 above.
• U.S. Military Support, Free Market Principles, and Individual Liberty: Organizations advancing these causes.
• Poverty and Homelessness Initiatives: With priority given to Harris County.
• Civic and Cultural Organizations: With priority given to Houston, and secondary consideration to Austin, Dallas, and the broader state of Texas.

The Texas Education for Homeless Children and Youth (TEHCY) Resource Grant, administered by the Texas Education Agency, aims to enhance educational outcomes for homeless students in Texas. This grant supports innovative practices that identify, enroll, and assist these students, ensuring they access essential services. By fostering regional collaboration and implementing best practices, the TEHCY program strengthens support systems for education service centers and school districts, ultimately striving for improved academic success for all affected students.

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), the System Agency, is accepting applications for the Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH) program. PATH services provide outreach and engage people not currently connected to mainstream mental health services, primary health care, and substance abuse service systems. Awarded Grantees shall meet the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) goal for PATH programs, which is to reduce or eliminate homelessness for individuals with serious mental illnesses or co-occurring substance use disorders who are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless.

This funding opportunity invites grant applications requesting funding for the PATH Program. PATH providers provide outreach and engage people not currently connected to mainstream mental health services, primary health care, and substance abuse service systems. Awarded Grantees shall meet the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) goal for PATH programs, which is to reduce or eliminate homelessness for individuals with serious mental illnesses or co-occurring substance use disorders who are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless. 

PATH was created as part of the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Amendments Act of 1990. Since 1991, PATH has funded the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and four U.S. Territories (the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands). PATH funds are used to provide services that may include street outreach, case management services, and housing services that may not be supported by mainstream mental health programs.

The eligible population to be served under this RFA consists of individuals who are:

Age 18 or older;

Have a serious mental illness or co-occurring serious mental illness and substance usedisorder; and

Literally homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless

The Boyd And Evelyn Mullen Charitable Foundation Grant aims to support various charitable organizations in Texas, primarily focusing on education, literary studies, science, and religion. With a commitment to improving the welfare of those in need, the foundation provides funding for college scholarships, disaster relief, and medical research, especially in nutrition. Grants typically range from $5,000 to $30,000, and the foundation emphasizes adapting to the evolving needs of the Houston community.

  • Mental Health & Substance Abuse : We know that healthy communities are safe communities, which is why we invest in detox and substance abuse treatment centers, and behavioral health centers and services to end the perpetuation of cycles of trauma and addiction.
  • At-Risk Youth: We especially prioritize services for at-risk youth – those aging out of foster care, justice-involved or without stable support systems.

The Call for Kindness Grant, offered by Riley's Way Foundation, empowers young leaders aged 13-23 to launch impactful social projects focused on kindness and community connection. The Rockwell Fund Grant supports community development initiatives primarily in Super Neighborhood 52, focusing on operational support, capacity building, and program development. Grants are awarded based on a case-by-case evaluation, emphasizing effective community leadership and the enhancement of nonprofit organizations' capabilities within the area. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations dedicated to addressing local challenges and improving residents' quality of life, with a preference for those demonstrating diverse funding sources.

The Alvah H. and Wyline P. Chapman Foundation offers grants to support charitable, educational, and community-focused initiatives, primarily in Florida and Georgia. Eligible applicants must be IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) organizations. The foundation prioritizes projects that address children's welfare, education, multicultural understanding, substance abuse prevention, and homelessness. Grants typically do not exceed $15,000, and proposals must be endorsed by a Foundation Director. Interested parties should submit a Letter of Inquiry for consideration.

St. Mary's Bank Charitable Foundation Community Support Grants aim to enhance community welfare by providing financial support to nonprofit organizations. With a commitment to 'people helping people' since 1908, the foundation focuses on areas like youth programming, homelessness, and civic support. In 2023 alone, they donated over $200,000 to 190 organizations, reflecting their dedication to improving lives in New Hampshire. They prioritize funding for nonprofits within their service areas, ensuring impactful contributions to local communities.

The SCC COTA Grant Program, run by Speedway Children's Charities, aims to support children in the Greater Austin area. In 2023, it provided over $25,000 in grants to local nonprofit organizations focused on critical needs such as homelessness, human trafficking, and medical assistance. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits serving children. Priority is given to those addressing urgent social issues, ensuring a brighter future for vulnerable youth in the community.

The Best Life Community Awards, funded by Altra Foundation Inc, invites nominations for nonprofit organizations that have made a significant impact in their communities. Altra members can nominate eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofits they support with their time, talents, or financial contributions. The selected nonprofit will receive a $10,000 grant, aimed at fostering initiatives in education, health, and community services across specific counties in the U.S. Nominate today to help recognize outstanding contributions!

The Dallas Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) provides approximately $190,000 annually to support homeless services in Dallas County. These funds are allocated to nonprofit organizations that deliver essential assistance and support to individuals experiencing homelessness. Services include emergency night shelter, transitional housing, and health support. The Betty Stieren Kelso Foundation Grant aims to enhance the quality of life in San Antonio and Bexar County through support for arts, education, health and wellness, animal welfare, and wildlife conservation. The foundation prioritizes initiatives that empower youth, promote health, and protect animal welfare, reflecting Mrs. Kelso's commitment to community enrichment. Organizations eligible for funding are primarily 501(c)(3) nonprofits, dedicated to making a positive impact in these focus areas.

The O'Reilly Automotive Foundation Grant focuses on enhancing community welfare through philanthropic initiatives that support economic stability, workforce development, health services, and disaster relief. Established in 2020, the Foundation seeks to empower underrepresented individuals and organizations in the U.S. by addressing vital community needs. Avion Takes Action, a charitable fund by Avion Solutions Inc, empowers community organizations by providing grants to support various quality-of-life initiatives. With a focus on basic needs, education, healthcare, environment, and veterans, the fund has awarded over $250,000 in grants over three years. Eligible non-profits can apply for a minimum of six $5,000 grants every six months, ensuring impactful contributions to local communities where Avion employees live.

The St. Mary's Bank Charitable Foundation 1908 Funds Grants provide financial support to nonprofit organizations in New Hampshire, focusing on community development and services.
