Nurses Educational Funds, Inc. depends solely on donations to advance our only mission, to promote nursing leadership through annual scholarship support for professional nurses seeking masters and doctoral degrees in nursing education, practice, research, and administration.

NEF’s only purpose is to provide nursing scholarship assistance to make graduate level nursing education possible. NEF is one of the largest, national, private, professionally endorsed source of funds for advanced nursing study with over one hundred years of service to and for professional nursing. NEF is a non-profit organization with 501(c) status.

Francine Bono-Neri Scholarship Fund

As a grateful 2019 NEF Scholar, in 2023, Francine Bono-Neri wanted other nurses to benefit from receiving a scholarship while focusing their master's or doctoral degree clinical study and research on the problem of human trafficking. As an experienced Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Bono-Neri's deep concern about the global reach of human trafficking inspired her to become the co-founder and serve as president of Nurses United Against Human Trafficking. Committed to education and clinical awareness about human trafficking for every nurse in all settings and countries, this scholarship will support the study of human trafficking as well as related clinical and research areas which include forensic nursing, sexual assault, child sexual assault/abuse, sexual exploitation, sextortion, domestic violence, intimate partner violence, adverse childhood experiences, and child maltreatment.

The Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area seeks to ensure that our community thrives today, tomorrow, and forever by building our Community’s Endowment to support high impact charitable projects, helping donors achieve their charitable goals, and leading and partnering in community-level initiatives.

Scholarships

CFHZ awards over $1 million in scholarships each year for students to attend schools of higher education throughout the nation. Our scholarships are possible thanks to the generosity of donors who invest in our community’s future by furthering the education of others.

All Holland/Zeeland area individuals interested in post-secondary education are encouraged to apply for CFHZ scholarships.

The Foundation proudly administers over 100 scholarships, each with unique eligibility criteria that must be met before a candidate can be considered.

Ruth Westerman Oren Nursing Scholarship

• Recent graduate of an Ottawa County high school or technical school or Ottawa County adult resident making a career transition to nursing
• Pursuing a nursing degree to become a Registered Nurse (RN) through an accredited nursing program within the United States
• Priority given to past recipients who have a strong performance record in their nursing studies

The Barbara L. Tate Scholarship, offered by Nurses Educational Funds Inc., supports professional nurses pursuing advanced degrees in nursing. To be eligible, applicants must have a minimum of two semesters of study remaining, possess a valid RN license, and maintain a GPA of at least 3.6. This scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. Barbara Tate, a prominent figure in nursing education, and aims to promote leadership within the nursing profession.

The Bea Goodwin Scholarship, established in 2026, honors the legacy of Dr. Bea Goodwin, a dedicated nursing leader. This scholarship is aimed at supporting professional nurses pursuing master's or doctoral degrees in nursing education. Applicants must have a minimum of two semesters remaining in their studies and must hold current RN licenses. Preference is given to candidates whose work reflects Dr. Goodwin's commitment to excellence in nursing education and preparing future nurse educators.

Florida registered nurses pursuing accredited graduate nursing degrees can access funding through the Charles Hamlin Scholarship to support master’s or doctoral study. Administered by Nurses Educational Funds, this national award favors applicants with Native American heritage or focus, orthopedic nursing interests, or strong commitment to preventing healthcare professional burnout.

Florida registered nurses pursuing accredited master’s or doctoral nursing degrees and demonstrating academic and leadership excellence can access funding through the Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing, New York Alumnae Association/Edith G. Ryan and Joan Herman Bilder Scholarship. Administered by Nurses Educational Funds, this national scholarship supports U.S. RNs with strong GPAs, professional association membership, and at least two semesters of study remaining.

Graduate-level nurses pursuing PhD or EdD studies with a community home/health or historical research focus can apply for this scholarship, open to RNs in accredited U.S. nursing programs, including those in Florida. Focused on nursing education and leadership, Nurses Educational Funds offers the M. Louise Fitzpatrick Nursing Scholarship Award to support advanced nursing study.

Florida nurses pursuing doctoral degrees in nursing education, practice, research, or administration can access funding through Nurses Educational Funds to support graduate-level study. Applicants must be RNs with U.S. citizenship or legal residency, active membership in a national nursing association, strong academic performance, and at least two semesters of study remaining in an accredited nursing program.

Graduate-level nurses pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees in accredited nursing programs, including those in Florida, can seek scholarship support for clinical nursing leadership and scholarship. Focused on advanced nursing education, Nurses Educational Funds invites U.S. RNs with strong academic records, professional association membership, and at least two semesters remaining to apply.

Black registered nurses in accredited U.S. doctoral nursing programs who are U.S. citizens or legal residents and meet strict academic and professional criteria may receive scholarship support for advanced study. Nurses Educational Funds offers the M. Elizabeth Carnegie African American Scholarship, which may benefit Florida nurses pursuing PhD, DNP, DNAP, or EdD degrees in nursing-related fields.

Florida graduate-level nurses pursuing PhD or EdD degrees in accredited nursing programs can access funding through Nurses Educational Funds’ Maxine E. Elkan Scholarship to support advanced study and leadership development. Eligible applicants must hold a current U.S. RN license, belong to a national nursing association, and maintain a strong academic record in their doctoral coursework.

Graduate-level registered nurses in geriatric-focused programs can receive scholarship support for master’s or doctoral study through Nurses Educational Funds, including the Mathy Mezey Scholarship. Grants from Nurses Educational Funds help Florida nursing professionals in accredited U.S. programs who meet strict academic, licensing, and membership requirements advance their leadership and expertise in geriatric nursing.

U.S. registered nurses pursuing accredited graduate nursing degrees can apply for Nurses Educational Funds’ Columbia University – Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association/J. Margaret Ada Mutch Scholarship to support master’s or doctoral study. Applicants must have at least two semesters remaining, strong academic standing, and current professional association membership; Columbia University School of Nursing students or alumni receive preference, including those from Florida.

Graduate-level registered nurses in the U.S. pursuing master’s or doctoral nursing degrees can apply for Nurses Educational Funds’ Columbia University–Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association/Penny Hund West Scholarship to support advanced study. Florida nurses who meet NEF’s academic, licensure, and professional membership requirements may be eligible for this national nursing education funding.

U.S. registered nurses in accredited graduate nursing programs, especially those in doctoral nursing education, can apply for the Cynthia Davis Sculco Scholarship to support advanced study. This national scholarship from Nurses Educational Funds is paid directly to students and may benefit Florida nurses pursuing leadership roles in education, practice, research, or administration.

Florida graduate-level nurses pursuing master’s or doctoral study in nursing education or public health can access funding through the Edith M. Pritchard Scholarship to support advanced nursing education. This national award from Nurses Educational Funds is open to U.S. RNs in accredited programs who meet strict academic, licensure, and professional membership requirements.

U.S. registered nurses pursuing graduate degrees in nursing education, practice, research, or administration can receive scholarship support for advanced study from Nurses Educational Funds, including Florida nurses. Nurses Educational Funds supports nursing leadership development through the Eleanor C. Lambertsen Scholarship, awarded annually to a doctoral student in nursing education or administration enrolled in an accredited program.

African American registered nurses pursuing master’s or doctoral nursing degrees in the U.S. can receive graduate education support through the Estelle Massey Osborne Scholarship. Nurses Educational Funds supports advanced nursing study nationwide, so Florida nurses enrolled in accredited graduate nursing programs with strong academic records and professional association membership may be eligible.

Registered nurses pursuing graduate nursing degrees in fields like public health, nursing education, research, or advanced practice can apply for the Evelyn J. Barclay Scholarship from Nurses Educational Funds; awards support U.S. students in accredited master’s or doctoral nursing programs. Florida nurses meeting rigorous academic and professional criteria may be eligible.

Graduate-level nursing students in accredited programs who are licensed RNs in the U.S. and pursuing doctoral study to become full-time nursing faculty can receive scholarship support through Nurses Educational Funds. This national award supports advanced nursing education, research, and leadership, and Florida nurses meeting the academic and membership requirements may be eligible.

2027 Cherokee Nation Nursing Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to Cherokee Nation students pursuing college degrees in nursing no matter the residence of the student. You must currently be enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program (no prerequisites). Payback period required upon program completion, in the Cherokee Nation Reservation. This application is for members of the Cherokee Nation ONLY.

Applicant must demonstrate financial need and be pursuing a degree to become a registered nurse (RN). The scholarship is renewable. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 average in order to have their scholarship renewed.

Community Foundation of Henderson County's Scholarship Program began in 1984. Thanks to the generosity of passionate donors, over 2,000 traditional and non-traditional students have been provided more than $10 million in scholarships to pursue higher education.

Sigrun M. Mapes Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship is to provide financial support to a student seeking to attain a degree in the field of Nursing at an accredited institution. Student must be accepted or enrolled into a Nursing program at an accredited community college, meet and maintain the academic standards as set by the educational institution, be a legal resident of Henderson County, and demonstrate financial need.

Oncology Nursing Foundation

The mission of the Oncology Nursing Foundation is to support cancer nursing excellence.

Since 1981, the Oncology Nursing Foundation(ONF), through generous contributions from individuals and institutions, has provided more than $33 million in funding to support oncology nursing education, research and leadership development. This funding has translated to career development awards, academic scholarships, research grants, a myriad of specialized educational initiatives, as well as nurse resiliency support. The Foundation’s activities have played a critical role in improving patient care and advancing the oncology nursing profession.

Radiation Oncology Certified Nurse (ROCN™) Exam Scholarship

Recipients receive funding to cover the ONCC ROCN™ Certification exam fee.

Purpose

To support registered oncology nurses who specialize in providing care for adult or pediatric patients with cancer undergoing radiation therapy by providing funding support to cover the ROCN™ Certification exam fee.
