Gabilan Hope Scholarship

School District (SUHSD). This program was established in 2015 by a grant from a private donor in San Francisco. His intention was to provide exceptional migrant students from often hard-pressed backgrounds with the opportunity to complete their undergraduate education by reducing the financial burdens they may face.

NOTICE TO STUDENTS WISHING TO ATTEND HARTNELL COLLEGE

The overall goal of the Gabilan Hope Scholarship is to support qualified students to complete their undergraduate degrees at the university level. However, due to the significant barriers caused by the COVID pandemic, a number of Gabilan Hope Scholarship (GHS) applicants are choosing to attend Hartnell College, our region’s well-respected community college.

Students attending Hartnell may qualify for $500 annual GHS renewal scholarships if, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, they join academic cohort programs designed to support their transition to four-year schools, or accelerate their advancement to graduation.

These academic lockstep student support programs at Hartnell include

• TRiO,
• CSin3 for computer science majors,
• TAG (talented and gifted) programs,
• Similar programs offered for special interests such as medicine and psychology, as appropriate for each GHS recipient’s particular academic focus.

These grants aim to provide broad access and outreach, fostering collaboration and sustainability in the arts community, thus generating social and economic benefits for residents.

The Warehime Operational Grant supports non-profits addressing basic human needs through operational expenses. Offered by the J. William Warehime Foundation, grants range from $2,500 to $50,000 and can be applied for annually, with a minimum gap of 12 months between applications. UCHealth Employee Scholarships

With thanks to our generous donors, UCHealth Northern Colorado Foundation is pleased to offer academic scholarships to UCHealth employees in northern Colorado.

Scholarships are available to support permanent and relief employees’ academic pursuits toward an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or doctorate program. Applicants will be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible via the completion of a single application.

Awards are typically paid-out in August, 2026. Scholarship award amounts may vary from $500-$2,000.

Alexa Lindsey Memorial Scholarship

Graduating senior, graduating early college student, or current college student from a public, private, or home school in the primary service area of the Community Foundation

The Hudson River Estuary Program - River Education grant offers approximately $300,000 to support projects enhancing education about the estuary. Eligible applicants include governmental and non-profit organizations within New York State. The program aims to improve climate resilience and environmental education while ensuring accessibility for diverse communities. Grant awards range from $20,000 to $100,000, with a focus on projects that foster learning about the Hudson River Estuary and its resources.

The GCRA Downtown Events Grant Program offers up to $5,000 to support events in Downtown Gainesville from January 31 to June 30, 2025. Administered by the City of Gainesville's Community Reinvestment Area, this program aims to enhance cultural activities in publicly owned spaces. With $30,000 allocated from FY24 funds, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until funding is exhausted. This initiative fosters collaboration among community organizations to enrich the local cultural landscape.

The GCRA Community Partnership Grant Program provides up to $5,000 in matching funds to support local organizations in delivering special programming within the GCRA District. Priority is given to teachers in Title I schools, ensuring equitable access to enriching experiences. The Illuminations Grant for Black Trans Women Visual Artists, a $10,000 annual grant, supports early-career Black trans women artists in the U.S. whose contributions to visual arts are often overlooked. Established in partnership with notable figures, this grant not only provides funding but also offers professional development resources. In its fifth year, it aims to address systemic barriers and enhance representation in the arts, with additional awards for finalists to further their artistic journeys.

John and Margaret Humphris Veterinary Scholarship

The Governor's Urban Scholarship (NJ) is a merit-based program by HESAA designed to support high-achieving students from designated New Jersey communities. Eligibility is determined by high school rankings, requiring students to be in the top 5% with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. No application is needed; schools submit eligible candidates directly to HESAA. This initiative not only promotes academic excellence but also enhances educational opportunities for students in underserved areas.

The NJ STARS Scholarship, managed by HESAA, offers financial support to New Jersey high school graduates who rank in the top 15% of their class. This merit-based scholarship covers tuition for up to 18 credit hours per semester at local community colleges for eligible students. To qualify, students must enroll full-time and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Funding is subject to state appropriations, ensuring that education remains accessible for deserving students.

The T. W. M. Cameron Outstanding Ph.D. Thesis Award, established by the Canadian Society of Zoologists, recognizes exceptional Ph.D. theses in Zoology from Canadian universities. This award not only honors scholarly excellence but also promotes diversity and inclusion within the field. Recipients receive a commemorative scroll and are invited to present their work at the annual conference, with travel and accommodation expenses covered up to $1,500.

The AARP Community Challenge Grant: Capacity-Building Microgrant offers $2,500 to support projects that enhance community livability for residents aged 50 and older. Initiated in 2017, it has funded over 1,700 projects nationwide, focusing on immediate improvements and long-term progress. Eligible organizations include nonprofits and government entities, aiming to implement innovative programs in areas like disaster preparedness, walkability, and home modifications. This initiative fosters inclusive communities and empowers older adults.

Every Battle Creek area resident shall have the resources to access post-secondary education and training.

Beyond tuition, many funds support total cost of attendance — books, fees, equipment, and in some cases childcare or transportation.

Checks are made payable to the educational institution indicated on the follow-up and mailed directly to the educational institution. Checks are typically mailed in early August.

Gerald D. Barnes Family Scholarship Fund

Gerald D. Barnes, a 1942 Colon High School graduate, was a standout four-year varsity first baseman. Following high school, he attended Argubright Business College for one year. He married Vera H. Kellogg in 1944, a 1942 graduate of Battle Creek Central - one of only two of 13 siblings to graduate high school. Vera played baseball during the time men where off at war and Gerald often kept score for her team. Their honeymoon was spent at a Detroit Tigers game and their love of baseball continued their entire lives. In 1945, Gerald was drafted into the U.S. Army and they put his business education to good use processing soldiers coming home from WWII. As a veteran he had been called a hero, but disagreed stating, "Those who fought overseas were the true heroes." Once discharged in 1946, he wore a flag pin every day, proudly displaying his love of Country and rests forever with his pin over his heart.

Following his service, Gerald worked at Post Cereals Carton and Container Division in Battle Creek for 40 years. Higher education was not common amongst Gerald's generation, but he and Vera understood their children and grandchild would need it to succeed and to this end, supported their education in every way they could. Their daughter received a certificate from Kellogg Community College and retired from Battle Creek Public Schools after 44 years. Their son earned a Bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University, and after serving our Country during the Vietnam conflict, earned his Master's from Utah State University. Their grand-daughter graduated from BCCHS 50 years to the day after Vera, and received her Bachelor's degree from Drury University. Through this scholarship, the Barnes family leaves a legacy that will support Battle Creek Public Schools graduates in obtaining higher education in a skilled trade field.
