Our Mission

The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts seeks to enrich the quality of life of the people of our region by:

The Scholarship Program

The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts administers over 160 scholarships. Some of the funds help students from a particular school or area; others provide financial assistance to those pursuing a specific field of study; still others assist students that are most in need. Students who apply to the Scholarship program may be eligible for many of these funds.

• Scholarships may be used to offset tuition, fees, room and board, and other items included as part of the cost for attending the institution. 
• Most scholarships are for students who live in Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden Counties. However, some are also available to students who live in Berkshire County and Hartford County in Connecticut.
• We offer scholarships to those who attend on either a full-time or part-time basis. 
• Any student who plans to enroll for the upcoming fall semester, in any year of college as an undergraduate or graduate student and who will attend an accredited post-secondary school in the United States may apply.
• Scholarships are provided for one academic year and are not automatically renewed each year. You can reapply to our program every year you are going to attend college, and the application you submit that year will be considered for all scholarships for which you are eligible.

African American Achievement Fund

Supporting African American residents of Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire Counties who attend four-year colleges.

The Anna Marguerite McCann Diversity Student Travel Grants, offered by the Archaeological Institute of America, aim to support undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented minority groups in the United States and Canada. These grants assist with travel expenses to the AIA Annual Meeting, fostering diversity within the archaeological community. Recipients will also receive a complimentary student membership in the AIA, encouraging their continued engagement and support for archaeological education and preservation.

The ECRAC: Art In Our Schools Grant aims to enhance the arts curriculum in K-12 educational facilities located in Region 7E, Minnesota. Grants of up to $3,000 are available to support artistic residencies, field trips, and special events that are open to the public. This funding encourages schools to provide enriching arts experiences while ensuring that projects are accessible to all students and the community, without requiring a match.

The Twomey Family Scholarship, managed by The San Diego Foundation, supports current or former foster youth pursuing higher education. It aims to assist students attending community colleges, universities, or graduate schools in the U.S. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need and community commitment. Since 1997, the Community Scholarship Program has awarded over $59.5 million to help students achieve their academic goals.

The Jeffrey C. & Carol A. Carrier Poster Award, established in 1999, recognizes outstanding posters presented by AES student members at the Annual Meeting. This award honors Jeff and Carol Carrier for their advocacy of student participation in the Society. To be eligible, applicants must be current AES members, enrolled students, and the first or sole authors of their studies. They must also indicate their intent to compete at the time of abstract submission.

Expanded Wisconsin Fast Forward Grants

The objective of the Wisconsin Fast Forward (WFF) expanded grant program is to award funds that reimburse the costs of workforce development activities, as specified in the Grant Program Announcement (GPA).

Teacher Training and Recruitment Grants

This expanded WFF grant program is to recruit and prepare individuals to teach in low-income or urban school districts in Wisconsin as a profession.

• Up to $1,000,000 is being made available for this GPA.

The Scholarship Foundation Inc of California Retired Teachers Association of North San Diego County

The Scholarship Foundation Inc of California Retired Teachers Association of North San Diego County applicants should:

• Be graduating high school seniors from a public high school in North San Diego County
• Plan to attend full-time a public community college or university in California majoring in education OR
• Be students who have entered or have been accepted into their fifth year of full-time schooling at a public university in California with the goal of achieving a teaching credential in the state of California
• Have a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0
• Have shown a commitment to their community through meaningful community service

The CMAB/McKnight Individual Artist Award offers up to seven grants of $5,000 each to exceptional artists residing in Benton, Sherburne, Stearns, or Wright counties in Minnesota. This program aims to recognize and support artists at various career stages, providing them with financial assistance to further their creative endeavors. Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years old, U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and have lived in the designated counties for at least six months.

Theo and Evelyn Yakel Scholarship applicants should:

• Be graduating high school seniors who are children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of members of the Retired Employees of San Diego County, Inc. (RESDC)
  • Letter from the Retired Employees of San Diego County, Inc. (RESDC) on official letterhead verifying that you are a child, grandchild or great-grandchild of a RESDC member is required.
• Plan to enroll full-time at a community college or four-year university in the United States in fall
• Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
• Be United States citizens

The Lischewski Family Fund for Aspiring Collegians

The Lischewski Family Fund for Aspiring Collegians applicants should:

• Have resided in San Diego County for at least one year
• Be graduating high school seniors
• Plan to enroll full-time at a community college in California with the intent to earn an Associate of Arts or similar accreditation within two years
• Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
• Be engaged in their community through their involvement in extra-curricular, volunteer activities or work experience
• Have a demonstrated financial need.

The Leon and Margaret Williams Scholarship applicants should:

• Have resided in San Diego County for at least one year
• Be graduating high school seniors
• Plan to enroll full-time at an accredited four-year university in the United States in fall
• Plan to pursue a career in health or the healthcare field
• Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
• Have a commitment to serving their community as demonstrated by their extra-curricular, work, church, or volunteer activities
• This opportunity is open to all applicants, with a focus on those furthest from opportunity and having a demonstrated financial need.

• Be graduating seniors from Lincoln, Morse or San Diego (downtown San Diego only) High Schools
• Plan to enroll full-time at an accredited four-year university in the United States in fall
• Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
• Have a demonstrated financial need
• Have a commitment to their community as demonstrated in their involvement in extracurricular activities, work or volunteer experience or church activities
• Preference for foreign born children of immigrant parents

The Lauer Scholarship applicants should:

• Have resided in San Diego County for at least one year
• Be graduating seniors from a San Diego County public high school who plan to attend an accredited four-year college or university in the United States in fall
• Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
• Be actively involved in serving their community as demonstrated by their involvement in extra-curricular activities, community service or work experience and must describe how they plan to give back to their community during and after college
• Have demonstrated social responsibility and a high level of integrity
• Have parents who have not received a college degree
• Have a demonstrated financial need

The Larry Waters Scholarship applicants should:

• Have resided in San Diego County for at least one year
• Be graduating high school seniors from Kearny High, Eastlake High, and Southwest High schools who plan to enroll full-time in a four-year university, or community college with the intent to transfer to a four-year university, anywhere in the U.S.
• Have a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale
• Have a demonstrated financial need

The Evotek Giving Foundation Technology Scholarship

The Evotek Giving Foundation Technology Scholarship applicants should:

• Have resided in San Diego County for at least one year
• Plan to enroll full-time at a College or University in California, Arizona, or Colorado
• Plan to major in finance (San Diego only) or computer science or information technology
• Have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
• Open to all applicants, with a focus on advancing gender equity in careers in technology
• If selected as a recipient of the Evotek 2026 Technology Scholarship, recipients will be invited to meet monthly with a mentor and, as needed, attend foundation/press events and speak to their experiences as technology majors.

Request for Proposals for Grantees to Develop and/or Provide Services for Older Minnesotans to Live in Community – Live Well at Home Grants

Objective of RFP

The Minnesota Department of Human Services, through its Aging and Adult Services Division (STATE), is seeking Proposals from qualified Responders to develop and/or provide services for older Minnesotans to live and age in the community of their choice. The STATE aims to improve their community’s capacity to develop, strengthen, integrate, and maintain culturally competent home and community-based services (HCBS) for individuals aged 65 and older who are at-risk of long-term nursing facility use and/or spending down into Medical Assistance eligibility. Proposals may include services that support solo agers, family, friends, and neighbors’ caregiving.

The Live Well at Home℠ program aims “to help older adults live well at home by focusing strategic investments to prepare Minnesotans for 2030.” The grants in this RFP are intended to stimulate innovation by providing one-time, start-up funds to test new approaches in housing and HCBS development, and to develop and support core HCBS providers.

The P. E. MacAllister Scholarships for Fieldwork Participation, offered by the American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR), provide $2,000 scholarships to support ASOR members and students in archaeological fieldwork. Established in 2013, these scholarships aim to encourage participation in ASOR-affiliated projects, with a focus on individuals who have not previously received funding. ASOR has awarded over $1 million since 2007, fostering research and understanding of the Near East and Mediterranean cultures.

The Shirlee Meyers/G. Ernest Wright Scholarships for Fieldwork Participation, offered by the American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR), provide three scholarships of $2,000 each to assist ASOR members in participating in archaeological projects. Priority is given to those who have not received prior funding through ASOR's scholarship program. This initiative aims to foster research in the Middle East and the wider Mediterranean, supporting volunteers and staff in excavation efforts.

The Eric and Carol Meyers Scholarships for Fieldwork Participation, established by the American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR), provide vital support for members and students to engage in archaeological projects. With six scholarships of $2,000 available for the summer of 2024, this initiative honors the contributions of Eric and Carol Meyers, esteemed educators and ASOR leaders. Bradley “Ace” Schaffner Scholarship Fund

The Bradley “Ace” Schaffner Scholarship Fund was created at The Pittsburgh Foundation in honor of Ace by his parents to provide scholarships for students living in Southwestern Pennsylvania who are pursing a 4-year liberal arts degree.

Award Type: Single Year. Previous recipients are encouraged to re-apply in consecutive years.

Through partnerships and collaboration, Lincoln Community Foundation facilitates positive change for the common good.

Since 1955, we have been privileged to be part of many wonderful legacies by connecting donor generosity to local needs. LCF serves as a faithful steward for many types of philanthropic gifts and helps donors create lasting legacies of giving. With gifts of all sizes from thousands of donors over the years, the assets of LCF have grown to more than $270 million.

Scholarships

Generous donors to Lincoln Community Foundation have established 90 scholarship funds that benefit students in Lancaster County and across the state of Nebraska. For 2025, there were 299 scholarship recipients who received awards that totaled over $606,000. 

Glenn and Dorothy Schnieber Scholarship

The Glenn and Dorothy Schnieber Scholarship was established in 2021 by their family. Glenn and Dorothy graduated from Lincoln High School in 1946. Neither of them was able to afford college. They bought a small business from Glenn’s dad and over the next 30 years they grew it into a successful wholesale food distributor, Schnieber Fine Foods. Education was always important to them. In their memory, the donors hope this scholarship will help recipients in Nebraska achieve their educational goals.

Recipients of this scholarship may renew the scholarship for the following year if they maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above, for a total of two years.

The CMAB Public Art Grant Program supports the creation of impactful public art projects that are accessible to everyone at no cost. It encourages artists to engage with the community, fostering cultural identity and artistic growth. Applicants must secure at least 25% matching funds, with no cap on funding requests, although resources are limited. This initiative aims to enrich regional culture and enhance public spaces through both permanent and temporary art installations.

The Kentucky Conference Mission Grants support international missions, offering up to $2,000 annually to churches and organizations connected to The United Methodist Church. These grants aim to extend the church's mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ globally, specifically targeting projects outside the USA. Eligible applicants include congregations and mission projects that demonstrate a strong link to Kentucky congregations and comply with nomination requirements from local church representatives.

Southern California Kids to Parks Grants Program

National Park Trust is thrilled to offer the 2026 Southern California Kids to Parks Grants Program. Open to Title I schools (40% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch) based in the Southern California Edison service area (Map of Eligible Locations) for grades 3 through 12, this grant program provides classrooms with up to $1,500 for in-park experiences. While grant requests for all types of park visits are welcome, applicants are encouraged to consider trips to historical sites in honor of the celebration of our country's 250th birthday in 2026.

Funding can be used towards program fees, transportation costs, stewardship supplies, and any other materials needed for a robust learning experience.

This grant is designed to be student-driven, and student-teacher collaboration is a must. All applications must include a stewardship element and a park-themed educational component that focuses on either outdoor recreation and healthy lifestyles, environmental education/science, or history.

Teachers may submit the application on behalf of their class, but direct student involvement in the application is required.

The Sophie M. and John F. Yoney Scholarship Fund was established at The Pittsburgh Foundation by the late Mr. John F. Yoney, to provide to graduates from Chartiers-Houston High School, Peters Township High School and Canon McMillan High School.

Shirley Lewis McCune Memorial Scholarship

The Shirley Lewis McCune Memorial Scholarship was established at The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County in memory/honor of Shirley Lewis McCune. Her family chose to honor Shirley, who worked for Columbia Gas for many years and was the first female District Manager for the company here in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Award Type: Single-Year award. Previous recipients are encouraged to re-apply in consecutive years provided they maintain full-time enrollment.

Shaw Family Trust

The Shaw Family Trust was created at The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide scholarships to high school seniors entering their freshman year of college at Penn State Beaver or Community College of Beaver County.
