What We Do

The Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums offers library and information service to state agencies and the Legislature, provides for the orderly management of current state records, preserves non-current public records of permanent value for study and research, and operates the state museums.

Grants for Alaska Libraries and Schools

The Alaska State Library helps public and school libraries acquire financial assistance.

Interlibrary Cooperation Grant

Each year, the Alaska State Library awards Interlibrary Cooperation (ILC) Grants funds for proposals with a direct impact on library users. Libraries of all types (academic, public, school, and special) are encouraged to submit proposals. 

Interlibrary Cooperation Grants are competitive and project-oriented. A grant review committee will evaluate each proposal and score it according to a rubric. Proposals with significant statewide impact on the sharing of resources; cooperative services with another library; innovative programs for the delivery of library services; or training or other programs that strengthen library services, will be more competitive.

Grantees must demonstrate financial commitment to providing ongoing library services once the project is finished. ILC grants cannot be written to support ongoing operational costs, replace primary funding sources, or fund activities that are the primary responsibility of the applicant library

The Appalachian Community Fund's Technical Assistance Grants are designed to strengthen grassroots organizations in Central Appalachia. These small grants support specific technical assistance needs, enhancing skills in areas such as leadership, fundraising, and community organizing. ACF prioritizes projects that address systemic issues and promote social, economic, and environmental justice. Organizations eligible for funding must be community-led and demonstrate a commitment to creating equitable change in their communities.

The Eagle Fund Grant, established in 1998 by the Berkshire community, aims to enhance educational experiences in the Southern Berkshire Regional School District through grants to students and educators. Grants typically range from $250 to $5,000 and are intended to support innovative projects beyond the core curriculum. The fund encourages collaboration and seeks projects that demonstrate exceptional educational value, fostering pride and enthusiasm within the district.

The John C. Lasko Foundation Trust Grant supports the construction of worship spaces across the nation, requiring churches to fund at least 50% of the project costs. Established by John C. Lasko, the foundation aims to build enduring churches that adhere to its mission. Grants are specifically for sanctuary construction, and applicants must own the land designated for the church. Notably, funds are not available for debt repayment or non-sanctuary areas.

The Texas Natural Gas Vehicle Grant Program (TNGVGP), managed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, aims to support the transition from diesel or gasoline vehicles to natural gas-powered vehicles. This program facilitates the replacement or repowering of heavy-duty and medium-duty vehicles with compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied natural gas (LNG), or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Eligible applicants can include up to 10 vehicles per application, promoting cleaner transportation options.

The Community Garden Grants aim to strengthen Central Ohio's neighborhoods by providing financial support for the creation and expansion of community gardens and greenspaces. With funding up to $3,000 and in-kind donations, the program focuses on enhancing local food access, education, and the environmental benefits of gardening. Eligible projects must benefit community groups and be completed within a year, helping connect residents to healthier lifestyles and community building opportunities.

The George Waters Grant Program, established by the Minnesota Section PGA, aims to support PGA Professionals and related golf programs focusing on player development, especially for juniors and athletes with disabilities. This initiative honors George Waters, a dedicated PGA member, and helps fulfill his vision of growing the game. Grants cover teaching costs, infrastructure, and special assistance, encouraging wider participation in golf across Minnesota and North Dakota.

The Mattoon Foundation for Academic Excellence offers Community Engagement Grants aimed at fostering collaboration between classrooms and the local community. These grants support projects that engage students and families, promoting hands-on learning and shared responsibility for educational success. Eligible applicants include teachers and staff from Mattoon Community Unit School District 2, who must demonstrate support from school administrators and community partners. This initiative enhances civic well-being and empowers students to appreciate their community's culture and history.

The Maryland Robotics Grant FY 2026, administered by the Maryland State Department of Education, aims to enhance robotics education in K-12 schools by funding Local Education Agencies and nonprofit organizations. This initiative promotes student engagement in STEM activities, fostering critical skills like problem-solving and collaboration. By ensuring alignment with Maryland's educational standards, the program supports both new and existing robotics initiatives, thereby preparing students for future careers in technology and engineering.

The Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) offers Small Education and Outreach Project Grants to enhance community awareness about critical issues affecting the Lake Champlain Basin. With funding up to $15,000, these grants aim to foster knowledge and skills among individuals, encouraging hands-on stewardship activities. Projects should align with the strategies in the management plan, Opportunities for Action, to promote informed decision-making and constructive actions that benefit the Basin.

The Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) offers Education and Outreach Large Implementation Grants to enhance community engagement and protect the Basin's resources. These grants fund diverse projects focused on water quality improvement, habitat restoration, and educational outreach initiatives. Since 1992, over 1,500 grants have been awarded, fostering partnerships among local organizations, universities, and communities to promote stewardship of the rich natural and cultural heritage of the Lake Champlain Basin.

The Rhode Island Community Foundation offers grants through its Program for Animal Welfare, focusing on organizations dedicated to the humane treatment and welfare of animals. With thirteen special funds, the program supports initiatives such as humane education and low-cost spay/neuter services. Grants are intended for projects that positively impact animal care and welfare across the state, encouraging community involvement and addressing critical challenges related to animal protection.

The SEMAC: General Operating Support Grants invite nonprofit arts organizations in the SEMAC region, with operating expenses under $174,000, to apply for funding aimed at enhancing their stability through administrative support. Grants of up to $5,000 annually (totaling $10,000 over two years) are available, with recipients required to submit an interim report after the first year. Applications are accepted until funds are depleted, with specific deadlines for notifications.

The New Jersey State Council on the Arts offers General Operating Support (GOS) grants to organizations dedicated to the arts. These grants provide annual funding for operational costs and typically come with a three-year commitment. Organizations are encouraged to consult with Arts Council staff regarding eligibility before applying. The program aims to enhance public interest, promote freedom of expression, and ensure that art is an integral part of public spaces in New Jersey.

The CMAB Community Arts Support Grant Program, managed by the Central Minnesota Arts Board, provides vital funding to enhance arts access in Benton, Sherburne, Stearns, and Wright counties. Established in 1979, this program supports nonprofit arts organizations with grants ranging from $3,000 to $10,000 for operations, administration, and outreach initiatives. Through these funds, CMAB aims to foster community engagement and appreciation for the arts, especially among underserved populations.

The New Jersey State Council on the Arts offers General Program Support (GPS) grants aimed at funding ongoing public arts programs that meet specific eligibility criteria. These grants typically involve a three-year commitment and require a 3:1 match, meaning for every dollar received, three must be raised or earned. Funding availability is contingent on the state budget, and new applicants are encouraged to consult with Arts Council staff before applying.

The BHT Grant Writing Stipends aim to enhance the capacity of community-based organizations in eastern Washington by providing up to $5,000 for grant-writing assistance. With a total funding allocation of $220,000, this initiative focuses on empowering nonprofits that lack dedicated grant writers and fostering partnerships that align with Better Health Together's commitment to health equity and anti-racism. Applications are currently closed but will reopen in the future.

Southwest Virginia Hydrogen Hub

The Virginia Department of Energy is launching a program to encourage hydrogen production in the Southwest Virginia (SWVA) region and its use across the Commonwealth. The primary objective of this initiative is to tackle energy issues critical to hydrogen energy while promoting economic development in SWVA.

The program invites proposals from entities operating in the Southwest region of the Commonwealth.

Program Overview

Virginia Energy invites proposals for establishing planning grants of $250,000 each to support the potential for the development of the hydrogen production industry in the Southwestern Virginia region. The effects of the downturn of the coal industry have severely impacted the low-income and disadvantaged communities of the coalfields. Southwest Virginia is uniquely positioned to take advantage of this opportunity. The repurposing of previously mined land and development of energy-ready industrial sites with access to abundant water, natural gas, and on-site rail are ideal for creating a hydrogen production hub in the region.

This program represents a significant step toward a cleaner and more sustainable future for the citizens of the commonwealth, particularly those that have been historically underserved. 

The Deborah Rochelle Teacher Grant, established by the Kelly Gene Cook Sr. Charitable Foundation, supports educational initiatives by awarding grants up to $5,000 to teachers and professional staff in East Baton Rouge, Livingston, and St. Tammany Parishes. Initiated in 1991 and named in 2007, this program enhances educational outcomes through research-based projects that directly benefit students, honoring the legacy of its founder, Kelly Gene Cook, Sr.

The Equipment & Facilities Improvement Grants provide up to $10,000 in matching funds to nonprofit arts organizations in the Southwest Minnesota region. This funding supports the purchase of equipment and facilities upgrades that enhance organizational capacity to meet community arts needs. Eligible applicants include arts-focused nonprofits and government units, with no cash match required for fiscal year 2023. The aim is to strengthen the region's arts infrastructure while fostering accessibility and inclusivity in arts projects.

The Stephen J. White Prize, established by the American Philosophical Association, honors the late Dr. Stephen J. White and is awarded biennially to the best published paper by a junior philosopher. It focuses on themes central to Professor White's work, such as moral responsibility and practical reasoning. The winner receives a $1,000 monetary award and a symposium at an APA divisional meeting, recognizing significant contributions in philosophy.

The Margaret Warren & Grace Lemley Animal Welfare Grant honors the legacy of Maggie Warren, a dedicated advocate for animal welfare. This grant aims to support organizations in the Black Hills area that focus on improving animal welfare, including new programs, operational expenses, and small capital improvements. Eligible applicants include IRS 501(c)3 charities and schools. Grants will not support capital campaigns or organizations that do not adhere to a no-kill policy.

The Gus Poesch Research Fund, established in honor of innovator Gus Poesch, offers approximately $40,000 annually to support floriculture-related projects at The Ohio State University. This fund prioritizes projects that recruit high-quality graduate students, advance research, and improve industry practices. Emphasizing relevance to current industry needs, funded projects may cover pest management, production techniques, and postharvest quality. The fund encourages collaboration and aims to enhance the profitability and sustainability of the floral industry.

The Gus Poesch Research Fund - Student Travel Grant supports floriculture graduate students from The Ohio State University in presenting their research. Grants up to $1,500 are available for educational travel and require submission of an abstract. Successful applicants must report on their trip and acknowledge funding in all publications. This initiative enhances research dissemination and fosters professional development in the floral industry, which faces ongoing challenges in pest management and production efficiency.

The Operational & Culturally Specific Grants provide essential support to San Antonio-based arts and culture nonprofits, enabling them to deliver outstanding programming for the community. These grants are awarded every three years, with new applicants eligible for funding based on specific criteria. Funded by the Hotel Occupancy Tax, the program aims to enhance cultural engagement among residents and visitors, ensuring a vibrant arts scene in San Antonio.

The Five Wings Art Council offers General Operating Support Grants to Minnesota non-profit arts organizations that have held their 501(c)(3) status for at least three years. These grants provide unrestricted funds for administrative and capital expenditures, supporting artistic quality and community access. Organizations in Cass, Crow Wing, Todd, Morrison, and Wadena counties can apply, fostering local arts and enhancing community engagement through diverse artistic initiatives.

The ABC-CLIO Leadership Grant supports AASL Chapters in developing leadership programs for school library associations at various levels. This grant encourages initiatives that engage new members, train current leaders, and foster collaboration among organizations. Successful applications clearly define program objectives, participant groups, and include well-structured budgets and evaluation plans. The grant aims to promote innovative leadership approaches that can be replicated by other chapters, enhancing the overall effectiveness of school libraries.
