Sylvan Area Fund

Sylvan Area Fund is an unrestricted community grant fund that supports USD 299 and the economic growth and development within the boundaries of USD 299.

The Fund was created by the generosity of individuals who have contributed money for the charitable use to address the present and future needs this geographic area. From this endowed fund, the advisory committee annually determines and designates the amount of available funding in the form of community grants.

The applications are open to a variety of issues. All individuals, groups, and non-profit organizations are encouraged to apply. For-profit organizations will not be considered unless the request is for a charitable project. Grants will be limited to projects within the geographic area served by USD 299.

What type of support is funded?

Awarded to women living in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana County who were born outside of the United States of America attending college.

The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University is a leading research center for woody plants, housing over 15,000 species. The Jewett Prize supports researchers studying flowers and fruits, facilitating original research and scholarly exchanges. Funded by Prof. James R. Jewett's generosity, the prize enhances the Arboretum's mission to promote plant scholarship and biodiversity awareness. This prestigious award encourages innovative research while providing access to extensive botanical resources, including the Harvard Botanical Library and the University Herbaria.

Ottawa County Public Health Fund

The Ottawa County Public Health Fund was established in response to the Kansas Health Foundation’s second chapter of the Giving Resources to our World (GROW II) match grant challenge.

Grants from this fund support the public health of Ottawa County. Public health is defined as the protection and promotion of the health and well-being of individuals and their communities through encouragement of healthy lifestyles, behaviors and environments.

Funding for this grant is also supported by the Kansas Health Foundation Fund for Ottawa County.

The Scott Family Scholarship, offered by the Greater Salina Community Foundation, supports graduating high school seniors in Republic County, Kansas, particularly those from USD 109. This scholarship aims to assist students in pursuing further education, emphasizing academic excellence with a minimum 2.5 GPA requirement. Eligible recipients can renew the scholarship for up to four years, provided they maintain full-time enrollment and meet GPA criteria, ensuring long-term educational support.

The CALT Emerging Traditional Artists Program, funded by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, supports early-career Appalachian traditional artists with $5,000 grants and personalized professional development. Artists engage in learning opportunities, including workshops and mentorship, to enhance their skills. Eligible applicants must be traditional artists from designated Appalachian counties in Ohio, Virginia, or West Virginia, at least 18 years old, and in good standing with Mid Atlantic Arts.
