AgWest Farm Credit

AgWest Farm Credit is an agricultural lending cooperative with more than a century of experience serving farmers, ranchers, timber harvesters, and aquatic producers throughout the West. 

Rural Community Grants

AgWest Farm Credit is committed to improving the economic and social well-being of rural communities.

We are looking for creative and collaborative approaches to address challenges and provide opportunities to people who live in rural communities. This program provides grants to non-profit organizations for projects that improve rural communities within Alaska, Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. This includes efforts such as building or improving facilities; purchasing necessary equipment to facilitate a local program; and funding capital improvements which enhance a community’s infrastructure, viability and/or prosperity.

Examples of rural community grant projects

• Fire engine for rural fire department
• Multi-purpose community building
• Improving community park facilities
• Computers for a community center’s educational classes

Grant amounts

Maximum grant request is $5000. Due to growing demand, the average amount awarded is between $500 and $2,500. An organization may only be awarded grant funds once per calendar year.

The Arizona Department of Health Services accepts applications at any time of the year for civil monetary penalty  (CPM) funds.

About CMP Funds

A CMP is a monetary penalty the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) may impose against nursing homes for either the number of days or for each instance a nursing home is not in substantial compliance with one or more Medicare and Medicaid participation requirements for long-term care facilities. A portion of CMPs collected from nursing homes are returned to the states in which CMPs are imposed. State CMP funds may be reinvested to support activities that benefit nursing home residents and that protect or improve their quality of care or quality of life.

Funding Uses

The following examples of allowable uses of CMP funds are not all-inclusive. Please see the Allowable and Non-Allowable Uses of CMP Funds download for more information. CMP funds may be used for:

• Assistance to support and protect residents of a facility that closes or is decertified
• Time-limited expenses incurred in the process of relocating residents to home and community-based settings or another facility when a facility is closed or downsized pursuant to an agreement with the state Medicaid agency
• Projects that support resident and family councils and other consumer involvement in assuring quality care in facilities
• Facility improvement initiatives, such as joint training of facility staff and surveyors, or technical assistance for facilities implementing quality assurance and performance improvement programs
• Training to improve quality of care
• Activities to improve quality of life, foster social interaction, and movement and minimize loneliness
• In-person visitation aids

What does this program do?

This program provides affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas. An essential community facility is defined as a facility that provides an essential service to the local community for the orderly development of the community in a primarily rural area, and does not include private, commercial or business undertakings.

How may funds be used?

Funds can be used to purchase, construct, and / or improve essential community facilities, purchase equipment and pay related project expenses.

Examples of essential community facilities include:

• Health care facilities such as hospitals, medical clinics, dental clinics, nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
• Public facilities such as town halls, courthouses, airport hangars or street improvements.
• Community support services such as child care centers, community centers, fairgrounds or transitional housing.
• Public safety services such as fire departments, police stations, prisons, police vehicles, fire trucks, public works vehicles or equipment.
• Educational services such as museums, libraries or private schools.
• Utility services such as telemedicine or distance learning equipment.
• Local food systems such as community gardens, food pantries, community kitchens, food banks, food hubs or greenhouses.

What kinds of funding are available?

• Low interest direct loans
• Grants
• A combination of the two above, as well as our loan guarantee program. These may be combined with commercial financing to finance one project if all eligibility and feasibility requirements are met.

What are the funding priorities?

• Priority point system based on population, median household income
• Small communities with a population of 5,500 or less
• Low-income communities having a median household income below 80% of the state nonmetropolitan median household income.

Grant Approval

Applicant must be eligible for grant assistance, which is provided on a graduated scale with smaller communities with the lowest median household income being eligible for projects with a higher proportion of grant funds. Grant assistance is limited to the following percentages of eligible project costs:

Maximum of 75 percent when the proposed project is:

• Located in a rural community having a population of 5,000 or fewer; and
• The median household income of the proposed service area is below the higher of the poverty line or 60 percent of the State nonmetropolitan median household income.

Maximum of 55 percent when the proposed project is:

• Located in a rural community having a population of 12,000 or fewer; and
• The median household income of the proposed service area is below the higher of the poverty line or 70 percent of the State nonmetropolitan median household income.

Maximum of 35 percent when the proposed project is:

• Located in a rural community having a population of 20,000 or fewer; and
• The median household income of the proposed service area is below the higher of the poverty line or 80 percent of the State nonmetropolitan median household income.

Maximum of 15 percent when the proposed project is:

• Located in a rural community having a population of 20,000 or fewer; and
• The median household income of the proposed service area is below the higher of the poverty line or 90 percent of the State nonmetropolitan median household income. The proposed project must meet both percentage criteria. Grants are further limited.

These efforts may include life sciences and breakthrough research, protecting biodiversity, preserving or creating parks and green spaces, improving air and water quality and increasing access to clean water and food.

Types of grants we typically fund:

Programmatic Grants

Efforts to improve service delivery, expand programs and services, or pilot new approaches. The Trust is committed to supporting the full cost to execute high-impact efforts and will fund indirect expenses included in a program budget.

Capital Campaign Grants

Typically multi-million, multi-year fundraising efforts to support land acquisition, construction, etc.

Capital Project Grants

Typically a discreet short-term, small scale construction effort such as a building expansion; renovation of an existing facility, or capital purchases to support programs and services.

Inspired to make contributions with a wide-ranging yet personal impact, Carl and Marilynn Thoma founded the Carl & Marilynn Thoma Art Foundation in 2014 to distinguish their initiatives in and support of the visual arts. In 2021, the Foundation was renamed the Carl & Marilynn Thoma Foundation to more broadly reflect its expanded philanthropic efforts and initiatives, including the Thoma Scholars Program, which aims to strengthen community, leadership, and education initiatives in under-resourced and rural areas.

The Carl & Marilynn Thoma Foundation recognizes that the arts and education enhance lives and communities. We make art collection-related grants, as well as lending and exhibiting our own collection. We focus our education funding on the rural Southwest, primarily offering scholarships to students in the greater Texas panhandle. Through these giving programs, we strive to foster leadership, innovation, and equal opportunity.

Nonprofit Organizations

The Carl & Marilynn Thoma Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations whose innovative projects and original ideas will advance scholarship in our collection areas. We accept Letters of Inquiry on a rolling basis for bold proposals that provide promising insights into the fields of art which we collect:

• Art of the Spanish Americas

The Foundation’s Art of the Spanish Americas collection numbers more than 200 works from the 17th to 19th centuries—principally paintings from South America. The collection includes works on religious themes and portraits from the Viceroyalty of Peru (and the smaller entities such as the Kingdom of Nueva Granada into which it was divided in the eighteenth century), as well as a small selection of portraits from the Spanish Caribbean.

•  Digital & Media Art

The Carl & Marilynn Thoma Foundation began supporting the field of Digital Art in 2009. Our collection has grown to include over 400 artworks by more than 138 artists, representing a global history of the medium from 1959 to the present. The Thoma Foundation’s core collection of Digital Art highlights the specific achievements of modern computers—their processing speed, infinite data capacity, imaging precision, and virtual networking—to aid artists. Media Art signifies our support of art created with both pioneering and emerging time-based technologies, especially in relation to electronic mass media—the news and photojournalism, film and television, video games, social media, and other cultural experiences produced by communications technology.

• Japanese Bamboo

The Japanese Bamboo collection includes contemporary Japanese Bamboo baskets representing both independent artists and bamboo artists from the two professional associations devoted to the field, Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition) and the Nihon Kogeikai (Japan Craft Arts Association).

• Post-War Painting & Sculpture

The Foundation’s collection of mid-century global abstract art is centered around the years 1950–79 and the major movements of that period including Color Field, Hard Edge, Op, Washington Color School, Light & Space, and shaped canvas.

We also welcome requests pertaining to the arts and culture of the American Southwest. The projects we support through our Collections-Related Grants for Nonprofits fall within one or more of the following categories:

• Exhibitions

We welcome the opportunity to become an early funder of landmark exhibitions that relate to our collections, and which significantly raise the public profile of those genres while also advancing art historical scholarship. Historically, we have cultivated strong relationships with medium-size museums across the country that reach a diverse regional audience and value innovative curation. Exhibition funding can include development, scholarship, construction, outreach, traveling costs, admissions subsidies, and more. The Thoma Foundation also loans pieces from its collections in support of exhibitions.

• Convenings

To encourage scholarly debate and dialogue, we fund academic conferences and workshops that will significantly advance the fields of art scholarship related to our collections. We urge applicants to familiarize themselves with industry standards for honoraria and per diems in advance of creating a convening budget.

• Academic 

Research, travel, manuscript development, hiring research assistants, equipment, etc. to support original scholarship related to our collection areas. Academic projects should culminate in a clear final deliverable such as a book manuscript or peer-reviewed article.

Individual Fellowships and Awards

In addition to our nonprofit grants, the Foundation runs several fellowship programs for individuals related to our Art of the Spanish Americas collections. This includes two annual fellowship programs geared towards postdoctoral scholars and Ph.D. candidates: the Marilynn Thoma Fellowship in Art of the Spanish Americas and the Thoma Foundation Research and Travel Awards in Art of the Spanish Americas. Biannually, we offer the Exploratory Travel Award to early career Ph.D. students. 

Thoma Foundation Special Project Funding

The Carl & Marilynn Thoma Foundation offers a Special Project Funding Grant as part of its broader grant programs described above. Through the above programs, we seek to heighten public interest and awareness, fuel innovative scholarship, and promote dynamic partnerships in the fields of art and art history. For the Special Project Funding, the Foundation takes a proactive and personal approach to giving. Rather than making grants based on a call for applications, we work collaboratively to make challenging projects happen. We support people and their bright futures instead of endowments or capital improvements. Our interests here include:

• Innovative high school projects and college scholarships that build leaders and communities in the greater Texas Panhandle.

Background

The goal of ACF of Sedona is to develop a legacy of giving in our communities to enhance the quality of life in Sedona and the Verde Valley. The Arizona Community Foundation (ACF) is an endowment organization that connects community needs to donors who have a passion for meeting those needs. With regional offices around the state, ACF of Sedona serves Sedona and the Verde Valley. Since 1991, ACF of Sedona has developed 88 separate funds with assets exceeding $33 million. ACF of Sedona ha awarded more than $19 million to area nonprofit organizations, schools, and municipalities serving local needs. 

The USGS Southwest Biological Science Center (SBSC) seeks to provide financial assistance for research investigating the vulnerability of saguaros to aridification in Saguaro National Park (hereafter SAGU), and how to make populations more resilient. The southwest U.S is experiencing a severe, long-term drought that is threatening regional water sources, human health, and plant and wildlife communities. Temperatures at SAGU increased 1.2°C since 1895 and are expected to climb in future decades. Managers at SAGU are observing changes in the vegetation communities, fire regimes, and water resources that are related to long-term drought and exacerbated by higher temperatures leading to long-term aridification.

The Park's namesake species, the saguaro cactus (Carnegiea gigantea), is a drought-adapted, long-lived keystone species that directly supports at least 100+ other plant and animal species. The park's saguaro population began rebounding in the 1960s after decades of decline, most likely due to management practices that protected nurse trees, which young saguaros require for shelter from environmental stress. Many of these plants are now reaching reproductive age. However, since the mid-1990s scientists have documented declines in saguaro seedling survival. In the park's Cactus Forest, recruitment since 1995 is <10% of what it was in prior decades, and similar results are observed throughout all habitats in the park. While recent studies provide insight into how saguaros are responding to changing environmental factors, they do not address causal effects or provide direct answers to questions related to long-term survival of saguaros in the park; key information needed by managers to decide how to protect this species soon. are essential to achieving the park's mission. These questions are especially relevant today given the current poor recruitment in the plant's drier western range including Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument and in the urban heat island of Phoenix, Arizona, where there is anecdotal evidence that otherwise healthy saguaros may be dying due to extreme night-time temperatures. Challenges to conserving an iconic, keystone species are not unique to SAGU and knowledge and management actions can be applied to other public lands on which saguaro's and potentially other iconic cactus occur.

Arizona Department of Health Services

The Arizona Department of Health Services promotes and protects the health of Arizona’s children and adults. We strive to set the standard for personal and community health through direct care, science, public policy, and leadership. 

Bureau of Operational Readiness and Response

The Division of Public Health Services, Bureau of Operational Readiness and Response (BORR) was established to detect and respond to natural or intentional disease events. Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Administration for Strategic Preparedness & Response (ASPR), it is the program’s mission to ensure that the public health system of Arizona is prepared for public health emergencies.

RFGA2026-002 Arizona Prepared Healthcare Systems

The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), Bureau of Operational Readiness and Response (BORR) will be utilizing grant funds to partner with a non-profit organization to facilitate specific work on behalf of the Bureau with Long Term Care facilities in Arizona. The subrecipient will work as an advocacy organization for Long-Term Care facilities and represent skilled nursing facilities and assisted living communities.

ADHS stakeholders are essential in providing support to the healthcare delivery system across Arizona. Subrecipients of HPP funds are expected to strengthen and enhance the readiness of the healthcare system to plan for and respond to emergencies and disasters by:

• Addressing community needs: HPP helps health care entities meet the needs of their communities in times of emergency.
• Building connectivity: HPP integrates and coordinates recipient public health agencies, HCCs, and coalition members to ensure all people have equitable access to care.
• Saving lives: HPP enables the health care delivery system to continue to provide care during a disaster or emergency, improve patient outcomes, and save lives.

Estimated annual funds totaling $200,000.00 in fiscal year 2026 are anticipated available for a nonprofit organization that provides advocacy organization for Long-Term Care facilities and represents skilled nursing facilities and assisted living communities.

WESTAF’s TourWest Grant provides flexible funding for presenters/presenting organizations within the WESTAF region to support their regional touring program. WESTAF also encourages the inclusion of community/educational outreach as part of an organization’s presentation of touring artists. 

TourWest is a competitive grant program funded by the National Endowment for the Arts to provide subsidies to arts and community organizations in the 13-state WESTAF region and jurisdictions, including Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa for the presentation of touring performers and literary artists. 

Through TourWest, WESTAF and the National Endowment for the Arts aim to encourage the presentation of performing arts programming to culturally diverse audiences and those that do not typically enjoy ready access to the performing arts. In order to understand local needs and interests, WESTAF advocates working directly with individuals and groups from the communities that your organization seeks to serve. Community engagement and participation are key components of a successful TourWest grant application. 

WESTAF defines regional touring as programming that presents out-of-state touring artists and/or in-state touring artists traveling at least 50 miles to your venue. Presenters/presenting organizations are defined as organizations that present or host guest artists for engagements in their communities. Presenters can include but are not limited to community cultural organizations, community centers, churches, schools/colleges/universities, libraries, museums, film festivals/series, and performing arts centers. Typically, producing organizations or performing arts groups are not considered presenters, and are encouraged to contact WESTAF to discuss eligibility.

TourWest seeks to support the engagement of new audiences as well as collaboration between the presenters, artists, agents, and communities. In addition to working collaboratively with the artist(s) and/or community partners in planning the project, WESTAF encourages presenters to take advantage of opportunities such as block booking, presenter networks, and booking conferences to reduce costs and make artistic opportunities available to a broader audience. Partnerships and collaborative efforts between presenters are considered in the panel’s evaluation of an application and project.

Program Overview

Creative West’s TourWest grant program, supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, provides funding to presenters and presenting organizations to bring touring performers and literary artists to communities throughout the Western region.

Regional touring is defined as:

Programming that brings out-of-state touring artists to your venue, or In-state artists traveling at least 50 miles from their home base TourWest focuses on expanding access to the performing arts, especially in underserved communities.

To support this goal:

• Creative West encourages working closely with local individuals and groups to understand and meet community needs.
• Applicants are urged to include community engagement or educational outreach activities in their projects.
• Collaboration with artists, agents, and community partners is highly encouraged, along with strategies like block booking and using presenter networks to reduce costs and maximize impact.

Invest Native

Wells Fargo announces a Notice of Funding Opportunity for Invest Native, a $20 million philanthropic commitment to Native American communities in six states. The Invest Native initiative aims to impact work within Wells Fargo’s four priority philanthropic pillars of Housing Access and Affordability, Small Business Growth, Financial Health, and Sustainability & Climate Resilience among Native American communities in Arizona, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. The program is designed as a grantmaking initiative to support a more equitable and prosperous future for Native Americans.

Implementation grants are one-year grants up to $400,000. Funding will be for project/program costs aligned with one of the four focus areas including strengthening housing access & affordability, small business growth, financial health, and sustainability & climate resilience.

Funding Pillars

Projects must fit within one of Invest Native’s four funding pillars to be eligible. These pillars are:

• Small Business Growth: Focus is to primarily support initiatives that accelerate growth opportunities for established small businesses to help them scale. Investments center on key drivers of growth: Capital, Network, and Knowledge.
• Sustainability & Climate Resiliency: Focus is to support sustainability initiatives that drive an equity-focused transition to a low-carbon economy, with a focus on mitigating climate impacts and facilitating transition opportunities in low and moderate income (LMI) communities. Emphasis is to expand availability and access to sustainable finance transactions in LMI communities and developing and centering community power.
• Financial Health: Focus is to invest in foundational structures and transformative solutions that address systemic inequities, build financial security, and advance wealth and legacy creation among historically marginalized communities. Emphasis is on financial stability (including financial access, asset building and financial counseling).
• Housing Affordability & Access: Focus is to strive to foster interventions and innovative solutions that increase access to affordable, sustainable, and wealth-generating housing for vulnerable populations and communities. Emphasis will be on keeping people housed, housing stability, and opening doors to access.

Ms. Foundation for Women

The mission of the Ms. Foundation for Women is to build women’s collective power in the U.S. to advance equity and justice for all. We achieve our mission by investing in, and strengthening, the capacity of women-led movements to advance meaningful social, cultural and economic change in the lives of women.

Birth Justice Initiative

In 2022, Ms. Foundation for Women launched our first national, open call request for proposals for our Birth Justice Initiative to support Black, Indigenous, and people of color communities in addressing racial based health disparities in birth experiences and birth outcomes. Through this initiative, Ms. will mobilize funding and capacity building resources nationally to organizations implementing birth justice strategies rooted in movement building and organizing.

The Birth Justice Initiative will build upon our decades of experience supporting grassroots leaders fighting for reproductive justice. The overall goals of our initiative are to:

• Build power within the birth justice movement
• Increase connectivity and collaboration between Birth Justice Organizations and movement leaders.
• Provide philanthropic advocacy, thought partnership, and thought leadership, to influence the movement of more resources to the Birth Justice movement.

We are committed to deepening our investment in grassroots Black, Indigenous and WGOC-led organizations working toward achieving birth justice. In our first round of grant making, we will invest over $1,000,000 in support of birth justice organizations across the spectrum of movement building and organizing, and supporting our communities to advance more equitable birth outcomes.

In-N-Out Burger created the Slave 2 Nothing Foundation to help those who are enslaved by any person or substance, by empowering them to live free!

The Slave 2 Nothing Foundation’s mission is to free people from being enslaved to any person or substance. We fulfill our mission by providing financial support to organizations in our communities that:

• Create, educate and assist in solutions to eliminate human trafficking
• Assist individuals and their families to gain freedom and healing from substance abuse

Requirements

The Slave 2 Nothing Foundation supports two types of nonprofit organizations:

• Substance Abuse organizations that assist individuals and their families to gain freedom and healing in the following ways:
  • Detox, inpatient (residential) treatment, outpatient treatment, transitional /sober living facility, support services, and prevention
• Anti-Human Trafficking organizations that create, educate and assist with solutions to eliminate human trafficking in the following ways:
  • Drop-in center, emergency safe home, Long-term residential programs, support services, and prevention

Funding Availability

The Slave 2 Nothing Foundation is able to fund only a limited number of the total requests we receive. If a particular request meets funding criteria but does not receive support, one should not interpret this as an indication of the Slave 2 Nothing Foundation’s lack of appreciation for the merit and worthiness of either the request or the organization seeking support. We welcome the opportunity to discuss possible future funding by invitation. While there is no guarantee of ongoing support, there is no limitation on how many times an organization can apply. Each request is reviewed on its individual merit, and decisions are not based on prior year submittals. Therefore, an organization can reapply each year.

On occasion, an organization that receives a grant asks to recognize Slave 2 Nothing and/or In-N-Out Burger for such contributions. While we are always honored by the request, we do not encourage or recommend any such recognition. Part of our company’s mission statement is to “assist all communities in our marketplace”, and so we are pleased to support your efforts.

Definition

The Summer Youth Program Fund (SYPF) is an independent grantmaking program founded and managed by local funders who support, or are interested in supporting, agencies that provide summer programming for Maricopa County youth. The purpose of the SYPF is to supplement existing programs in order to enrich, enhance and expand summer offerings for children and youth.

Grants will be made to organizations that match the criteria of individual funders participating in the collaboration. Collaborators include the Arizona Community Foundation (ACF), Arizona Republic Season for Sharing, BHHS Legacy Foundation, Helios Education Foundation, Hickey Family Foundation, Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, Phoenix Suns Charities, The Steele Foundation, Thunderbirds Charities and The Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust. Some funders have restrictions on multiple annual requests. If you believe this may be applicable, we suggest you contact the funder directly.

Why it is important

The SYPF recognizes that summer programs, particularly those serving economically disadvantaged youth, require financial assistance to provide creative and recreational outlets while fostering personal development and life-long learning.

During out of school time, young people tend to engage in the highest levels of health-harming behaviors. Targeted programs provide a continuum of care during the summer months and offer opportunities for youth to develop and sustain enriching and healthy lifestyle activities that will divert them from negative behaviors.

Benefits

The collaborative program simplifies grant seeking for nonprofit organizations. The program design makes grantmaking more efficient for local nonprofits to obtain the necessary funds for their summer programs by using a single application form, one collective process and a single report. Additionally, it will allow a large number of funders to become more familiar with organizations providing summer youth programming.

Recognizing that many local nonprofits have small staffs, the SYPF collaborative effort allows staff to focus on youth programs by eliminating the duplication of efforts in applying separately to each funder.

What types of programs may be funded?

Program activities can be varied, centering on personal youth development, arts and culture, recreation and physical activity, environment/nature, disability or academic/educational.

Organizations with a focus on artistic and academic programs are encouraged to apply with innovative ways to decrease sedentary activities and increase knowledge of healthy lifestyles. Recognizing that youth-serving organizations shape the environment of our youth, the SYPF will encourage all applicants to play a role in addressing the trend of childhood overweight/obesity through implementation of proper nutrition practices and opportunities to be physically active.

The SYPF encourages collaborative efforts amongst organizations with similar goals, increase service capacities, and expand outreach to touch the lives of more youth of Maricopa County.

Specific funding priorities

• Serve disadvantaged youth from neighborhoods with limited access to organized activities
• Serve youth with disabilities or special health needs
• Exhibit stable history of community support, outreach, and partnerships
• Demonstrate ability to increase number of youth served
• Provide age-appropriate, enriching activities and education components
• Identify areas to improve quality of program and increase positive impact to participants
• Establish realistic outcomes for the program participants
• Create innovative methods to reach youth and instill healthy lifestyle behaviors

Funding request range

The SYPF will award approximately $615,000 in grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. The maximum grant is $25,000. The average grant award may vary based on the number of applications received and competitive nature of the cycle.

Health First Foundation provides leadership, forges partnerships, and supports innovation to advance health and well-being across northern Arizona’s diverse population and geography. We inspire donors to support innovative community health initiatives of nonprofit organizations, hospitals, and medical centers. Our collaborations and investment alliances strive to bring health and well-being to the greatest number of people possible with maximum impact. We evaluate community health needs assessments to determine priority needs and use quantitative measurements to assess the sustainable impact Health First funded programs have on health and well-being for all and promoting vibrant communities.

Community Health Grant

The focus of this year's cycle is on northern Arizona's adolescents priority health needs.We seek to fund programs that support initiatives or educational programs that enhance the health and well-being of babies and youth (from birth to 19 years old) by addressing key areas of health access, behavioral or mental health, mitigating chronic conditions. Projects should focus on improving equitable access to healthcare services, promoting healthy behaviors, supporting mental health, managing chronic conditions, and addressing factors such as housing, education, or community resources that influence overall health outcomes for young people.​ ​This purpose emphasizes a comprehensive approach to supporting youth by focusing on the various health factors that contribute to their well-being

Funding

We seek to fund projects that involve collaborations and partnerships with other organizations. We prefer programs/projects of significant magnitude and impact with funding requests of $50,000 or more. Innovative projects requesting less than $50,000 may be considered.

Introduction

The mission of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer (LGBTQ+) Alliance Fund is to foster charitable giving in support of innovative programs and initiatives that benefit the LGBTQ+ community in Southern Arizona. Our donors, board and staff envision a diverse and caring community where philanthropy meets the needs of all its members.

The LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund is committed to advancing social justice and equity for all persons. The LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund acknowledges the complex intersections of race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, socio-economic status, national origin, language, disability, and other social identities as experienced by LGBTQ+ persons and commits to grantmaking with an equity lens in pursuit of liberation for all Southern Arizonans. To advance this aim, the LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund pro-actively seeks to provide funding to organizations led by and/or centering the voices, needs, and values of BIPOC, disabled, non-citizen, transgender, and gender non-conforming Southern Arizonans. The LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund prioritizes funding for projects which embed anti-racist values and practices in inclusive community and program environments.

Application Guidelines

The LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund will consider applications for programs that fall into at least one or more of the following areas of interest and relationships to the LGBTQ+ Community. Special consideration will be given to programs that: incorporate collaboration between two or more organizations, clearly articulate measurable outcomes, can provide a clear description of plans to sustain the project beyond the grant year.

The LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund recognizes there are a multitude of ways to serve the LGBTQ+ Community. To further assist organizations, we are expanding our understanding of the type of organizations we serve. This year, we are asking that organizations indicate their relationship to the LGBTQ+ Community. These distinctions are voluntary and do not affect applications positively or negatively.

LGBTQ+ Serving – Organization’s primary mission is to serve the LGBTQ+ community. Organizations fit this description when they expressly offer the vast majority of their services specifically to individuals in the LGBTQ+ community and are primarily LGBTQ+ led.

LGBTQ+ Allied – Organizations have a strong history of support of the LGBTQ+ Community through programing, leadership, and the addressing of issues related to the LGBTQ+ Community. the organization may not have a mission focus on LGBTQ+ issues, however, there is a strong focus of organizational culture that is dedicated to support, representation, understanding, and service to the LGBTQ+ Community.

Aspiring Ally – Organizations have a desire to support or enhance their work with the LGBTQ+ community and are steadily working to serve or ally with the LGBTQ+ Community. These organizations may be in their discovery or early implementations phases of work with the LGBTQ+ Community and looking for support to examine their ability to serve the community authentically, competently.

Other – We recognize that there are many alignments with the community we may not be able to aptly portray with our lists. If your organization falls outside of the descriptions we have outlined above, please inform.

Funding Priority Areas

Only one application per agency will be accepted. However, if you are a fiscal agent for an organization, these applications will be considered separately. The following are current Alliance Fund priority areas.

LGBTQ+ Community Building and Collaborations – Projects that bring the LGBTQ+ community together and enhance it as a whole. Programs that work in collaboration with each other to benefit the LGBTQ+ community in Southern Arizona. The Alliance Fund is interested in work that creates equity and solidarity, increases the well-being of LGBTQ+ communities, and advances gender, racial, and economic justice. 

Transgender Issues –We seek to support projects that provide information and assistance to help transgender individuals gain access to informed medical professionals and improve their agency, quality of life, and sense of belonging. This may include projects that provide personal development, economic empowerment, education, and training programs.

Elder Issues – We support projects and organizations that aid LGBTQ+ elders in finding satisfactory basic support (housing, nutrition, health), in establishing good social networks, and planning for the future (estate and end-of-life issues.) 

Youth Issues – Our support of projects and organizations that aid LGBTQ+ youth include programs that focus on youth who are particularly disenfranchised, e.g., youth of color, rural youth, low-income youth, gender non-conforming or questioning youth, young women, and other youth in need of assistance in the areas of homelessness, education, human service, and safety.

General Operating Support – We recognize that general operating support provides vital support to organizations whose mission/work is to primarily support the LGBTQ+ Community in Southern Arizona may apply for general operating support. 

The Foundation is dedicated to providing financial assistance to organizations committed to improving our world. Solutions to the problems of today's world still lie in the values of innovation, practicality, hard work, and compassion.

The Foundation considers applications for grants in the following areas:

• Education
• Social Service
• Health care
• Civic and cultural
• Environmental

The categories above are not intended to limit the interest of the Foundation from considering other worthwhile projects. In general, the Foundation guidelines are broad to give us flexibility in providing grants.

The majority of our grants are made in the U.S. However, like Dr. Scholl, we recognize the need for a global outlook. Non-U.S. grants are given to organizations where directors have knowledge of the grantee.

About the Arizona Department of Education

Equity for all students to achieve their full potential

This is the guiding vision of the Arizona Department of Education — the state agency tasked with overseeing Arizona's K-12 public education system. Our department, led by a publicly elected Superintendent of Public Instruction, comprises more than 600 staff across four state offices working to serve Arizona's students, families, educators, and school communities.

Mission Statement

The Arizona Department of Education advances equity and excellence for all students by serving school leaders, educators and staff, collaborating with communities, and leading with data-driven best practices. 

Arizona - Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC)

The 21st CCLC programs must provide safe environments for students during non-school hours. Each grant program must serve students from one school site, where at least 40% of the students attending that school are economically disadvantaged; however, services may be offered at the school and at other locations. All centers must provide a range of high-quality services to support student learning and development.

Authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by Every Student Succeeds Act, Title IV, Part B administered by the Arizona Department of Education; the specific purposes of the law are to:

• Provide opportunities for academic enrichment, including providing tutorial services to help students, particularly students who attend low-performing schools, to meet the challenging State academic standards;
• Offer students a broad array of additional services, programs, and activities, such as youth development activities, service learning, nutrition and health education, drug and violence prevention programs, counseling programs, art, music, physical fitness and wellness programs, technology education programs, financial literacy programs, environmental literacy programs, mathematics, science, career and technical programs, internship or apprenticeship programs, and other ties to an in-demand industry sector or occupation for high school students that are designed to reinforce and complement the regular academic program of participating students; and
• Offer families of students served by community learning centers opportunities for active and meaningful engagement in their children’s education, including opportunities for literacy and related education development.
• Grants funded by the 21st CCLC program may supplement, NOT supplant, existing out-of-school funding or programs

Funding

Arizona’s 21st CCLC Grants are awarded for 5 years. The first 3 years are 100% funded. Two additional continuation years are possible. Applicants are only eligible for the continuation years if they have demonstrated Substantial Compliance in the preceding year. Continuation years are funded at 75%. Applicants must apply for a minimum of $50,000 or up to a maximum of $120,000 in the first year. 21st CCLC Funds are not allowed to be carried over from one fiscal year to the next.

Governor Katie Hobbs’ Office of Youth, Faith and Family (GOYFF), issues this Request for Application (RFGA) Solicitation concerning the Arizona Child Abuse Prevention and Advocacy License Plate Grant Program.

The monies shall be allocated to local and/or statewide programs that have a documented record of successful experience in promoting and providing trauma-informed primary prevention programs that strengthen families to prevent child abuse and neglect in all its forms for children in Arizona. Funding also supports child and family advocacy centers in Arizona to provide support to victims of child abuse and neglect. Programs shall be trauma-informed, family-centered, strengths-based, and evidence-based or evidence-informed. The GOYFF encourages collaboration with community partnerships and the Arizona Department of Child Safety.

Liberated Paths Grantmaking Program

Building a More Just and Sustainable Outdoor and Environmental Movement Together

Black, Indigenous, and People of Color-led organizations are on the frontlines of the grassroots work being done to build a better planet but our work is chronically overlooked and underfunded. We know that when our voices are left out, our communities suffer, and our planet does too. With the Liberated Paths Program, we envision a way to bridge that gap.

Through this program, we are working to create a more just and sustainable outdoor and environmental movement by shifting resources to and building power with Black, Indigenous, and Communities of Color. The Liberated Paths Program supports outdoor initiatives and organizations that cultivate and celebrate the contributions of Black, Indigenous, and Communities of Color and affirm the many experiences and identities our communities hold, through grantmaking, capacity building, and network building.

Through our Liberated Paths regional grants, we support organizations and initiatives of all sizes located in California, the Pacific Northwest (Oregon and Washington), the Southwest (Arizona and New Mexico), and the Delaware River Watershed that work at the intersection of racial justice, outdoor experiences, and the environment. In 2023, we will also launch grantmaking in North and South Carolina. Our Liberated Paths: Youth Access to Nature Fund supports efforts in the San Francisco Bay Area that increase safe and equitable access to the outdoors for Young People of Color.

We work with leaders and organizations who are rooted within their communities with the lived experiences to understand how to best advance justice and center the needs of the community. We support Leaders of Color to design and lead the types of joyful outdoor experiences and environmental efforts that are most meaningful to them and their communities. 

Liberated Paths support looks like:

• Relationship-driven and trust-based support
• Multi-year grants of $1,000 to $20,000 per year when possible
• Long-term, deep engagement in financial, operational, and fundraising capacity building
• Network building with a cohort of grantees to facilitate shared learning and systems-level changes
• Eligibility that is not hinged on organization size, ability to do impact reporting, or 501(c)(3) status
• Support for organizations and initiatives of all sizes and in all stages of their development
• Prioritized funding for organizations and initiatives led by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color
• Capacity building trainings and workshops for grantee partners

Capacity Building

Our model offers financial grants, as well as consistent coaching and mentorship. We want to connect our grantee partners with the tools and resources they need to sustain their vital work. To that end, in addition to trainings and workshops for all grantee partners, we work with each partner to identify areas where they want to grow and tailor our support to their needs. These areas could include: board recruitment, financial sustainability, staffing and hiring considerations, executive leadership coaching, budget planning, program design, insurance and liability considerations, safety, guidance on applications for additional grants, and more.

Network Building

Through Liberated Paths, we seek to bring together organizations and leaders working at the intersection of environment and racial justice. We do this through virtual get-togethers and information sessions. We facilitate network building within each cohort of grantees to facilitate shared learning and systems-level changes.

We also bring together funders and partners through a webinar series to connect, share information about the Liberated Paths Grantmaking Program and to also hold critical conversations regarding topics such as the explicit role of race in Liberated Paths, the racial funding gap, and racial bias and its impact in philanthropy.

Introduction

The Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff was founded in 1987 and is dedicated to providing a continuing source of funding support to the Flagstaff nonprofit community. The Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff is a regional office of the Arizona Community Foundation (ACF). The Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff secures, manages and allocates donor gifts for charitable purposes in the Flagstaff area, working to improve the quality of life for all residents. 

Awarding grants to Flagstaff’s nonprofit organizations is at the center of the Foundation’s service to the local community. In this effort grant applicants are our partners, bringing services and programs directly to people throughout the community. To help carry out this mutual goal, the Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff provides a variety of funding opportunities that enable schools, organizations and community groups to carry out projects, and maintain ongoing, high-quality services and programs.

The Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff seeks to build on the strengths and assets of Flagstaff nonprofit organizations by offering a competitive grant program focused on Fields of Interest or initiatives in one or more of the following areas:

Flagstaff Education Fund

This fund shall be used exclusively to benefit organizations whose purpose is education, both public and private programs. For example, past recipients have included community classes for adult literacy and young authors summer camp scholarships.

 Flagstaff P-12 Educational Resources Fund

Donor intent for this fund is to Increase educational opportunities for children in pre-school through 12th grade, their teachers, and their families in the community of Flagstaff. This fund supports the following:

• Outdoor and environmental educational programs by non-profits organizations and public-school programs. Emphasis should be on expanding the offering to children and students of lower economic status and a wide range of cultures
• Public school classroom projects and related materials that encompass environmental, community service and experiential learning or
• Early Childhood Education programs.

Flagstaff Environmental Education and Conservation Fund

This fund is used exclusively to benefit organizations whose purpose it is to sustain the environment in Flagstaff. For example, past recipients have included youth summer forestry and environmental programs and general operating sustainability funding for a local environmental education center.

Flagstaff Healthcare Fund

The scope of this fund is to exclusively benefit organizations whose purpose is to provide community health care services to the Flagstaff community. For example, past recipients have included education and awareness programs for juvenile diabetes and medical cost assistance for a reproductive health program.

Flagstaff Music Education Fund

The scope of the fund is to exclusively benefit schools and organizations that provide music education to the Flagstaff community. Services and programs shall include, but are not limited to, school music programs, music scholarships, cultural enrichment programs, music performances, and guest musicians. For example, past recipients have included a bilingual music show in school, scholarships for a children’s choir and operating expenses for a symphony.

Pickard Arts & Culture Fund For Flagstaff

The scope of this fund is to exclusively benefit organizations and schools providing Arts and Cultural services to the Flagstaff community. Services and programs shall include, but are not limited to, artist in schools residencies, arts scholarships, visual art community showcasing, cultural enrichment programs, and operational support for arts in education. For example, past recipients have included dance studio facility improvement, youth poetry exhibition and a summer theater series.

Flagstaff Social Services Fund

The scope of this fund is to exclusively benefit projects whose purpose is to provide social services (basic needs) in Flagstaff. For example, past recipients have included relative and caregiver assistance, homeless assistance, school-based services and general operating expenses.

Flagstaff Victim Services Fund

This fund is to benefit organizations whose purpose it is to provide services to crime victims, their families and others affected by crime, in such areas as advocacy, protection, shelter, training, counseling, transition, and similar programs. For example, past recipients have included victim assistance/advocacy, crime scene cleanup, and general operating expenses.

Flagstaff Youth Fund

The scope of this fund is to exclusively benefit organizations whose purpose is to promote and provide programs that benefit all youth in grades K-12 and younger. For example, past recipients have included scholarships for local youth clubs and funding for career and financial education for middle school children.

Flagstaff Animal Welfare Fund

This fund provides grants to local animal welfare organizations for a variety of programs including low cost spay and neuter services, animal rescue and rehabilitation.

Flagstaff Substance Abuse Prevention Fund

The scope of this fund shall be used exclusively for researched-based prevention and reduction of substance abuse for youth (Preschool-12th grade) through information, education, advocacy or innovative drug-free alternative activities..

Use of Funds

Funds can be used to:

• build the capacity of the organization
• support direct service projects and programs
• support capital expenditures
• provide general operating support and indirect/direct administrative costs
• support one-year and/or renewable funding proposals (there is no guarantee for second year funding)

The Kellenberger + Tollefson Center for LGBTQ Philanthropy Grant

The mission of the Kellenberger + Tollefson Center for LGBTQ Philanthropy at the Arizona Community Foundation is to contribute to an Arizona and society that advances justice and opportunity for LGBTQ people and the communities where they live.

The Kellenberger + Tollefson Center responds to statewide need through three program focus areas:

• Youth: Foster an environment where every child can achieve happiness and live to their full potential.
• Aging/Seniors: Ensure seniors are able to live free from discrimination and can age with dignity.
• Transgender People: Improve the well-being of transgender communities.

We will also consider applications that advance the mission of the Kellenberger + Tollefson Center on a broader basis. You are invited to apply for a grant from ACF’s Kellenberger + Tollefson Center to make a lasting difference for LGBTQ individuals in communities across Arizona. 

Arizona Justice Reinvestment Grants Program

The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) has selected Vitalyst Health Foundation and the Technical Assistance Partnership of Arizona (TAPAZ) as the fiscal agent to manage the Marijuana Justice Reinvestment grant for the next five years.

When Arizona voters approved Proposition 207 in 2020, it legalized recreational cannabis use for adults aged 21 and over and introduced an excise tax on marijuana. A portion of the tax revenue is allocated to the Justice Reinvestment Fund, which aims to address substance use and mental health issues that often contribute to incarceration.

This grant is designed for organizations working on:

• Public and behavioral health initiatives for substance use prevention, treatment, and early intervention services.
• Restorative justice, jail diversion, workforce development, and mentoring services for economically disadvantaged individuals in communities disproportionately affected by higher arrest and incarceration rates.
• Addressing the root causes of crime, reducing drug-related arrests, and lowering the prison population.
• Developing technology and programs to restore civil rights and expunge criminal records.

TeamUp Grant

Launched in 2021, the Center for Healthy Nonprofits’ TeamUp program provides a streamlined way to match nonprofits with a diverse pool of consulting professionals in Southern Arizona.

TeamUp provides nonprofits with up to 20 hours of fully underwritten consulting and coaching. Moving forward, the program will focus its support on nonprofits at key points in their lifecycle.

To ensure we can provide meaningful support and engagement, we will approve a maximum of 9 projects per cycle, with a total of 2 cycles per year.

Title II Formula Grant (AZ)

The Title II Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Formula Grant, authorized by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), provides funding for the implementation of programs that support the core requirements of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act. The GOYFF, the state agency designated to monitor compliance with the JJDP Act core requirements, collaborates with the Arizona Juvenile Justice Commission (AJJC) to fund programs that address significant challenges that youth, families, and professionals face within the juvenile justice system.

• The Juvenile Justice Specialist serves as the single point of contact for the US- DOJ’s Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency and Prevention (OJJDP), is responsible for providing oversight of the Arizona Juvenile Justice Commission (AJJC), and supports ongoing compliance monitoring and racial and ethnic disparities activities. The Juvenile Justice Specialist serves as the program administrator for the Title II formula grant and is responsible for creating a competitive solicitation highlighting the priority purpose areas chosen by AJJC and the state planning agency for local units of government, non-profit agencies, and Native American communities. Also responsible for monitoring funded programs and providing updates on program implementation and progress.
• The Compliance Monitor coordinates compliance with all facilities that may detain juveniles pursuant to a public authority (typically police departments and juvenile detention centers). The Compliance Monitor ensures each law enforcement agency complies with the core requirements for detaining juveniles based on Arizona’s Compliance Monitoring Policy and Procedures Manual. This includes sight or sound separation of juveniles from adult inmates, not detaining status offenders in secure custody, and processing delinquent offenders within 6 hours in adult facilities (jails and lockups for adults). The state’s compliance with the core requirements determines eligibility for the Title II Formula Grant award.

The maximum amount of funding awarded for each proposal can vary based on federal appropriations, applicants are typically awarded up to $100,000.
