Owning and maintaining a home requires significant financial knowledge, tools and resources. We support programs that assist low- and moderate-income homebuyers and existing homeowners. Examples of grant support include:

- Homeownership-retention programs designed to provide foreclosure counseling
We know that a strong small business environment and an educated workforce ensure the prosperity of our communities and reduce the expanding wealth gap for communities of color. We provide grant support to programs and organizations that help small businesses thrive, allow people to succeed in the workforce, provide pathways to higher education and gain greater financial literacy.
Investing in the workforce
We fund organizations that provide training for small business development, as well as programs that support individuals across all skill and experience levels, to ensure they have the capability to gain employment that supports individuals and their families. Examples of grant support include:
- Small business technical assistance programs
- Job skills, career readiness training programs with comprehensive placement services for low- and moderate-income individuals entering or reentering the labor force
Providing pathways for educational success
- To address the growing requirements for post-secondary education in securing competitive jobs in the workplace, we support:
- Organizations and programs that help low- and moderate-income and at-risk middle and high school students prepare for post-secondary education at a community college, university, trade or technical school and career readiness
- Programs and initiatives at post-secondary institutions that support access to career and educational opportunities for low- and moderate-income and diverse students
Teaching financial well-being for work and life
Financial well-being is not only critical for financial stability, it’s crucial in helping individuals be successful in the workplace. Examples of grant support include programs that positively impact:
- K-12 and college student financial literacy
- Adult and workforce financial literacy
- Senior financial fraud prevention
- Military service member and veteran financial literacy
Supporting the green economy through workforce development
The green economy is fast becoming an area of opportunity for workforce development programs. Funding support includes:
- Reskilling or retraining for jobs in renewable or clean energy
- Building and maintaining infrastructure to support renewable energy, including EV charging stations and bike/transportation programs
Play brings joy, and it’s just as necessary for adults as it is for kids. But in low-income areas there are often limited spaces for play and fewer people attending arts and cultural events. That’s why we invest in community programming that supports ways for children and adults to play and create.
Access to artistic and cultural programming and arts education
Our investments ensure economic vitality and accessibility to the arts in local communities, as well as support for arts education. Examples of grant support include:
- Programs that provide access to cultural activities, visual and performing arts, zoos and aquariums and botanic gardens for individuals and families living in underserved communities
- Funding for local arts organizations that enhance the economic vitality of the community
- Programs that provide funding for arts-focused nonprofit organizations that bring visual and performing arts programming to low- and moderate-income K-12 schools and youth centers
Supporting learning through play
Many young people across the country do not have the resources or access to enjoy the benefits of active play. Supporting active play-based programs and projects for K-12 students located in or serving low- and moderate-income communities fosters innovation, creativity, and collaboration and impacts the overall vitality of the communities we serve. Funding support includes:
- Support for organizations that build or expand access to active play spaces and places that help K-12 students learn through play and improves the health, safety and unification of neighborhoods in low- and moderate-income communities
- Programs that focus on using active play to help young people develop cognitive, social and emotional learning skills to become vibrant and productive citizens in low- and moderate-income communities
Outdoor places to play
Environmental stewardship enhances and improves the livability of our communities. Supporting efforts to preserve, protect and enhance outdoor spaces is now part of our Play pillar of giving. Funding support includes:
- Cleanup efforts in community spaces, including (but not limited to) beaches, rivers, and streams
- Protecting green spaces within the community, including planting trees, mangroves and seagrass
- Programs that support community, native and/or pollinator gardens, including community composting

The Foundation will consider requests to support museums, cultural and performing arts programs; schools and hospitals; educational, skills-training and other programs for youth, seniors, and persons with disabilities; environmental and wildlife protection activities; and other community-based organizations and programs.

Helping People in Need
Mrs. Pulliam valued giving people experiencing difficulty a hand-up and firmly believed that education was essential to reaching one’s full potential.
The Trust supports:
- Programs that provide adult education or training with accompanying social supports for individuals to obtain and maintain gainful employment.
- Programs that focus on economic self-reliance through micro-lending, small business development and entrepreneurial efforts for low-income individuals.
- Programs that assist the elderly in maintaining their independence and remaining in their homes.
- Programs that assist vulnerable families, women and children to help move them from crisis or instability to greater functioning.
- Programs that provide basic needs, such as food, clothing, emergency shelter or transitional housing.

Mrs. Pulliam loved animals – domesticated and wild – and the natural environment. She sought ways to encourage human bonds with both.
The Trust supports organizations and programs that:
- Programs that provide humane and wellness services for domestic animals, including shelter, rescue, spay/neuter and adoption.
- Programs that promote conservation of natural habitats and ecosystems that advance preservation, protection and restoration of land, water, wildlife and plants.
- Programs that promote environmental awareness to connect people to the natural world, promote personal stewardship, or offer knowledge and tools for addressing current and future problems.
Enriching Community Life
Mrs. Pulliam appreciated the importance of having vibrant communities that benefit all residents, while ensuring that nonprofit organizations fulfill their missions at a level of excellence.
The Trust supports:
- Programs that add to the overall civic vibrancy and cultural vitality of the community.
- Programs that create innovative solutions to enhance the quality of life in Indianapolis or Phoenix.

The Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff was founded in 1987 and is dedicated to providing a continuing source of funding support to the Flagstaff nonprofit community. The Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff is a regional office of the Arizona Community Foundation (ACF). The Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff secures, manages and allocates donor gifts for charitable purposes in the Flagstaff area, working to improve the quality of life for all residents.
Awarding grants to Flagstaff’s nonprofit organizations is at the center of the Foundation’s service to the local community. In this effort grant applicants are our partners, bringing services and programs directly to people throughout the community. To help carry out this mutual goal, the Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff provides a variety of funding opportunities that enable schools, organizations and community groups to carry out projects, and maintain ongoing, high-quality services and programs.
The Arizona Community Foundation of Flagstaff seeks to build on the strengths and assets of Flagstaff nonprofit organizations by offering a competitive grant program focused on Fields of Interest or initiatives in one or more of the following areas:
Flagstaff Education Fund
This fund shall be used exclusively to benefit organizations whose purpose is education, both public and private programs. For example, past recipients have included community classes for adult literacy and young authors summer camp scholarships.
Flagstaff P-12 Educational Resources Fund
Donor intent for this fund is to Increase educational opportunities for children in pre-school through 12th grade, their teachers, and their families in the community of Flagstaff. This fund supports the following:
- Outdoor and environmental educational programs by non-profits organizations and public-school programs. Emphasis should be on expanding the offering to children and students of lower economic status and a wide range of cultures
- Public school classroom projects and related materials that encompass environmental, community service and experiential learning or
- Early Childhood Education programs.
Flagstaff Environmental Education and Conservation Fund
This fund is used exclusively to benefit organizations whose purpose it is to sustain the environment in Flagstaff. For example, past recipients have included youth summer forestry and environmental programs and general operating sustainability funding for a local environmental education center.
Flagstaff Healthcare Fund
The scope of this fund is to exclusively benefit organizations whose purpose is to provide community health care services to the Flagstaff community. For example, past recipients have included education and awareness programs for juvenile diabetes and medical cost assistance for a reproductive health program.
Flagstaff Music Education Fund
The scope of the fund is to exclusively benefit schools and organizations that provide music education to the Flagstaff community. Services and programs shall include, but are not limited to, school music programs, music scholarships, cultural enrichment programs, music performances, and guest musicians. For example, past recipients have included a bilingual music show in school, scholarships for a children’s choir and operating expenses for a symphony.
Pickard Arts & Culture Fund For Flagstaff
The scope of this fund is to exclusively benefit organizations and schools providing Arts and Cultural services to the Flagstaff community. Services and programs shall include, but are not limited to, artist in schools residencies, arts scholarships, visual art community showcasing, cultural enrichment programs, and operational support for arts in education. Flagstaff Social Services Fund
The scope of this fund is to exclusively benefit projects whose purpose is to provide social services (basic needs) in Flagstaff. For example, past recipients have included relative and caregiver assistance, homeless assistance, school-based services and general operating expenses.
Flagstaff Victim Services Fund
This fund is to benefit organizations whose purpose it is to provide services to crime victims, their families and others affected by crime, in such areas as advocacy, protection, shelter, training, counseling, transition, and similar programs. For example, past recipients have included victim assistance/advocacy, crime scene cleanup, and general operating expenses.
Flagstaff Youth Fund
The scope of this fund is to exclusively benefit organizations whose purpose is to promote and provide programs that benefit all youth in grades K-12 and younger. For example, past recipients have included scholarships for local youth clubs and funding for career and financial education for middle school children.
Flagstaff Animal Welfare Fund
This fund provides grants to local animal welfare organizations for a variety of programs including low cost spay and neuter services, animal rescue and rehabilitation.
Flagstaff Substance Abuse Prevention Fund
The scope of this fund shall be used exclusively for researched-based prevention and reduction of substance abuse for youth (Preschool-12th grade) through information, education, advocacy or innovative drug-free alternative activities..
Use of Funds
Funds can be used to:
- build the capacity of the organization
- support direct service projects and programs
- support capital expenditures
- provide general operating support and indirect/direct administrative costs
- support one-year and/or renewable funding proposals (there is no guarantee for second year funding)

The Arizona Community Foundation of Cochise will accept applications that benefit and support the following Field of Interest funds and their purposes.
Bob Holcombe Fund for Educational and Vocational Success: Established in March of 1999 to support at-risk students pursuing education in Cochise County. Consideration will be given to any program or project which provides support for the educational and/or vocational success of Cochise County residents who may be at risk of not graduating from high school. Preference may be shown to programs or projects which provide in-person assistance to students in grades 7-12 and college level vocational education students in their first year, in their efforts to obtain a vocational education and a high school diploma, with an emphasis on support for students who may be at risk of not graduating from high school.
Borderlands Fund: Established in March of 2011 to improve quality of life in Cochise County by investing in projects that may also provide benefit in Mexico.
Cochise Arts and Culture Fund: Established in 2012 to support arts, culture and historic preservation in Cochise County.
Cochise Community Foundation General Endowment Fund: Established in December of 1998 to support programs and services for the residents located in the geographic area of Cochise County in Southeastern Arizona.
Cochise Environmental Fund: Established in December of 1999 to benefit organizations whose purpose it is to address environmental issues and environmental education in Cochise County. Grants from this fund will be used to support, nurture and initiate programs which further environmental causes and education.
Cochise Health and Wellness Fund: Established in July of 2011 to support health and wellness programs that address physical and mental health needs.
Cochise Lifelong Learning and Literacy Fund: Established in December of 1998 to benefit organizations whose purpose it is to promote lifelong learning and literacy including, but not limited to, support of programs encouraging adult/parent computer literacy; Spanish/English language programs; mentoring programs; skill development programs; early childhood development programs and other programs that support border issues in Cochise County.
Cochise Veterans Fund: Established in March of 2012 to provide a permanent source of funding dedicated to the needs of Cochise veterans and their families.
Douglas Area Community Fund: Established in April of 2007 to support programs and services for residents located in Douglas, Double Adobe and McNeal.
John Lawrence Kurdeka Fund for the Environment: Established in October of 2008 to support environmental education and outreach; preservation and restoration of habitat and wildlife in Cochise County.
Northern Cochise Fund: Established in September of 2009 to serve the Sulphur Springs and San Simon Valleys in Northern Cochise County; specifically the communities of: Bowie, Cochise, Dos Cabezas, Dragoon, Pearce, San Simon, Sunsites, and Willcox.
Science, Math and Technology Innovation Fund: Established in September of 1999 to benefit public school teachers throughout Cochise County whose purpose is to teach, to organize classroom projects or to continue their own education in Science, Mathematics and Technology by using or learning innovative methods in these curriculum
