Scholarships

Community Foundation of Henderson County's Scholarship Program began in 1984. Thanks to the generosity of passionate donors, over 2,000 traditional and non-traditional students have been provided more than $10 million in scholarships to pursue higher education.

Ray V. Dunk Scholarship (Accounting)

This scholarship is for students graduating from high school or the equivalent who are residents of Henderson County and pursuing a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited educational institution with a focus on accounting. 

The schlarship is renewable.

The Mark W. Schwiebert Fund for Environmental Studies, established in 2016, supports educational programs and research addressing climate change and resource depletion. It emphasizes projects that are financially and technically feasible, with a focus on public education and impactful returns on investment. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, universities, and governmental entities, particularly those serving Rock Island County, Illinois, and Scott County, Iowa. Funding is not available for marketing campaigns, deficit funding, or projects already completed.

The 4Culture Preservation Special Projects grant supports initiatives that promote the preservation of historic places in King County, Washington. It funds research, documentation, education, and advocacy efforts, enhancing public awareness and accessibility to historic sites. Open to individuals and organizations, this grant emphasizes quality, public benefit, equity, and feasibility in project proposals. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate how their projects contribute to the long-term stewardship of important historic resources.

The Folklife Community Grant, offered by the Nevada Arts Council, supports small community organizations in presenting folk arts and traditions. The program seeks to broaden historical narratives, focusing on racial equity and inclusion, while ensuring projects benefit underrepresented populations and provide accessible educational opportunities.

The 4Culture Landmarks Capital Grants program supports the preservation of historic buildings and landscapes in King County. By funding projects that enhance community visibility, accessibility, and economic impact, this program fosters a stronger regional identity. Eligible applicants include individuals, businesses, and local governments owning designated historic properties. Grants of up to $30,000 can be used for restoration efforts, emphasizing sustainable practices and public benefit. Projects addressing urgent preservation needs are prioritized, particularly from historically marginalized communities.

The Arts Learning Grants program, offered by the Oregon Arts Commission, supports innovative projects that enhance K-12 arts education. It aims to create responsive learning opportunities, promote collaboration between artists and educators, and positively influence student achievement and attitudes. Priority funding is directed towards initiatives that serve rural and Title 1 schools, ensuring equitable access to quality arts education and fostering a vibrant cultural community.

The 4Culture Equipment for Organizations grant provides funding of up to $15,000 to support the purchase and installation of essential equipment for arts, heritage, historic preservation, and science organizations in King County. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and fiscally sponsored groups. The funding can cover fixed assets like computers and machinery, with a minimum request of $1,000. Organizations should ensure their projects align with the grant criteria to qualify.

The 4Culture Operating Support: Heritage Sustained Support Grant provides essential funding to heritage organizations in King County for two years. This grant aims to enhance public access to heritage programs, support diverse communities, and promote the preservation of local history. Eligible organizations can use funds for operational expenses, staffing, and community outreach initiatives, ensuring that all residents can benefit from cultural resources and programs.

The applicant must be a resident of Henderson County, but the student does not have to attend a Henderson County school. Financial aid is a requirement. The scholarship is not based on merit but is based on need.

The WebbCraft Family Foundation Grant supports nonprofit organizations that enhance education and cultural awareness. Established in 2000, the foundation has awarded over $3.3 million to various programs. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) organizations focused on education and community development in the Belton and Honea Path areas. This funding aims to foster growth and opportunity within these communities, making a significant impact on local arts and educational initiatives.

The Creative Start Project Grant provides funding for innovative projects that engage preschool to 3rd grade students in arts-integrated learning. This one-year grant prioritizes creative and emotional growth while fostering collaboration among educators, families, and artists. With funding ranging from $5,000 to $15,000, it aims to enhance culturally relevant learning experiences in Washington's distressed areas, focusing on sequential arts integration that benefits young learners.

The Expand Energy STEM Grants aim to enhance K-12 STEM education in Brooke, Ohio, and surrounding counties by providing funding for innovative classroom projects. Teachers are encouraged to submit proposals that incorporate STEM concepts and demonstrate creativity and age appropriateness. Projects should enrich student learning and may include formative ideas or established models. Grants will not cover routine educational expenses or equipment for general use, ensuring that funds directly contribute to enhancing the learning experience.

The Ohio Environmental Education Fund General Grant, administered by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, provides funding to support innovative projects that enhance public awareness of environmental issues in Ohio. The Treu-Mart Fund, a partnership between the Cleveland Foundation and the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, aims to empower children and youth in Greater Cleveland. The CMCF: Rural Poverty Fund Grants, offered by the Central Minnesota Community Foundation and the Initiative Foundation every even year, aim to address rural poverty through various initiatives. Grants support projects that establish emergency services, assess community needs, and develop action plans. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, schools, and government entities serving 14 counties in Central Minnesota, focusing on those in poverty while promoting diversity and inclusion.

The Home Depot Foundation's Path to Pro Scholarship aims to support U.S. veterans and train skilled tradespeople. The program collaborates with industry leaders to address the skilled labor gap, offering resources and training in various trades such as carpentry and plumbing. The Children's Foundation of Erie County Grant aims to enhance the lives of at-risk children in Erie County, NY. With a focus on supporting not-for-profit organizations, the foundation seeks to fund initiatives that demonstrate a commitment to improving children's quality of life. Eligible agencies must have IRS 501(c)(3) status and serve local children. Grants will not be awarded to individuals or for endowments, ensuring that funds directly benefit the intended recipients.

Alex Shives Scholarship Application Guidelines

The purpose of the Fund is to distribute scholarships to assist qualified recipients in their pursuit of higher education who have graduated or will be a graduating senior from either Papillion LaVista or Papillion LaVista South High School and who have participated on the boys or girls golf team at either high school.

The Fund shall annually distribute one (1) scholarship in the total amount of $2,500, split evenly per semester (i.e., $1,250 Fall Semester, and $1,250 Spring Semester).

The Julianne Williams Fund Grants aim to empower girls and young women in the St. Cloud area through physical activities, particularly outdoor experiences. This initiative focuses on building self-esteem, safety, and confidence, while fostering respect between genders. Eligible applicants include nonprofits and schools within a 30-mile radius. The fund supports capital projects, new programs, and initiatives promoting diversity and inclusion, while excluding individual grants and religious purposes.

This scholarship was established to honor the memory of John F. Burt of Neshoba County. Mr. Burt was raised during the depression and as a result he was resilient, a hard worker and resourceful. He learned the importance of sharing with those in need. He served in the US Navy during WWII where he strengthened his beliefs about patriotism, commitment and service. After the war, he and his wife opened a grocery store where he continued to be in service of others. God, family, and fellowship were priorities of Mr. Burt’s; he was always willing to be of service to anyone he considered family and at times to complete strangers. Obviously, Mr. Burt’s experiences shaped his moral code and guided the compass of his life.  Scholarship funds to be used towards fees for tuition and/or books only.
