The Leon Levy Center for Biography offers the Sloan Fellowship, which supports the writing of biographies about figures from science or technology. Established in 2007, the Center fosters excellence in biography through events, lectures, and funding for outstanding research. The fellowship provides a stipend of $72,000, access to research facilities, and opportunities for mentorship. Writers of all nationalities, including first-time biographers, are encouraged to apply, although memoirs and fictional works are not eligible.

Robert Glen Stern Scholarship Fund

About the Fund

The Robert Glen Stern Scholarship Fund was established in 2007 by Annette and Harold P. Stern, along with Steven B. Stern and Eric K. Stern, in memory of their beloved son and brother.

Born in New York City and raised in Westchester County, Robert graduated from Harrison High School and attended college in Massachusetts. He was known for his happy disposition, hearty laugh and deep sensitivity toward others. A lover of music and poetry, Robert cared deeply for his family and his fellow man.

The scholarship supports outstanding graduating seniors from Palm Beach County who demonstrate financial need, dedication to education and active participation in extracurricular activities, continuing Robert’s spirit of kindness, passion and commitment to others.

Robert P. Koch Memorial Scholarship Fund

About the Fund

Robert P. Koch achieved greatness throughout his lifetime. Bob often said, “Know what you are and know what you’re not”. He was respected by all who knew him in his private life as well as in his professional life in law enforcement and as an attorney. To honor his memory, his widow Jean B. Gutkin established a scholarship fund in his name.

About Us

In 1971 the Legislature established the Maine Historic Preservation Commission to implement State policy to "preserve the architectural, historic and environmental heritage of the people of the State, and to develop and promote the cultural, educational and economic benefits of these resources." The Commission is an independent agency within the Executive branch of state government that functions as the State Historic Preservation Office.

Its Director serves as the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) upon appointment by the Governor. The office administers the programs of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 in Maine, which includes the identification, evaluation, and protection of the state’s significant cultural resources.

Grants

The Commission offers several grants and assists with administering several others on behalf of the National Park Service.

Certified Local Government (CLG) Grants

CLG grants are also funded by the Federal money and carry many of the same requirements as the Historic Preservation grants with one important distinction: eligible applicants are limited to the CLG certified communities in Maine.

The Maine Historic Preservation Commission is pleased to announce a second FY2025 Certified Local Government (CLG) grant round. The Commission anticipates awarding approximately $50,000 in 90/10 matching grants for architectural or archaeological surveys, public education, planning, National Register nominations or development or pre-development projects for projects located in CLG communities. The minimum grant award is $5,000.

Eligible historic buildings and sites are those that are listed in the National Register of Historic Places either individually or as contributing resources in a National Register-listed historic district.

The Commission's CLG Grant Manual provides information about eligible projects and expenses, as well as the project selection process, including selection criteria. Funding priorities for 2025 include the establishment of historic building trades training programs, conducting building condition assessments on historic buildings and helping organizations prepare plans and specifications in anticipation of building projects. Eligible applicants are limited to municipal governments with CLG status, and non-profit institutions as defined by the Internal Revenue Service applying through the municipal governments. Projects must be directed by persons with professional credentials as defined by the Department of the Interior and must be completed by June.

*Maine CLGs include Augusta, Bangor, Biddeford, Castine, Gardiner, Kennebunk, Lewiston, Portland, Saco, Topsham, and York.

New Century Community Grants

As state program funds are available, the Commission makes matching grants to eligible non-profit and community based organizations for the restoration or preservation of historic properties listed in the Register.

The William “Bill” J. Brooks Memorial Fund Grant, established in 2021, aims to support community beautification projects in Shiawassee County. This grant honors the legacy of Bill Brooks, a dedicated community member and U.S. Navy veteran, who was passionate about enhancing his hometown of Owosso. Eligible non-profits can apply for funding to implement projects such as tree and flower planting, community gardens, and educational programs, fostering a vibrant and sustainable environment.

The Nancy Armbrust Impact Award, presented by Schreiber Foods Foundation, honors women who significantly enhance community life. With a $5,000 grant for a nonprofit of the recipient's choice, the award empowers initiatives supporting women and girls. Recipients are recognized at the Women's Fund event around International Women's Day. This annual award celebrates Nancy Armbrust's legacy as a dedicated community leader, encouraging others to inspire and uplift women in their communities.

The Office for Victims Programs (OVP)

The Office for Victims Programs (OVP) administers several state and federal grant programs that provide support for services to victims of crime. Grant funds are distributed to agencies that provide crime victim services through a competitive application process. The Crime Victim Services (CVS) Advisory Board reviews submitted applications and then provides their recommendations to the Executive Director of the Department of Public Safety for review and approval.

OVP: Prop KK Grant Fund

The Office for Victims Programs (OVP), a unit of the Division of Criminal Justice within the Colorado Department of Public Safety, announces the availability of approximately $1 million in Prop KK Grant Funds for a one-year grant period (1/1/27 to 12/31/27).

The use of these funds will be limited to projects that will provide direct emergency financial assistance to crime victims. Amounts requested must be a minimum of $100,000 and a maximum of $200,000 per application. Applications will be deemed ineligible if the request does not meet these thresholds. This grant will be on a cost reimbursement basis. Any organization (community-based or systems-based) providing direct victim services, excluding for-profit entities and individuals, is eligible to apply for this funding opportunity.

Scholarship Eligibility

• Graduating high school senior from Palm Beach or Martin County.
• Students graduating from Atlantic, Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth, Olympic Heights, Spanish River, and West Boca High School are not eligible to apply for this scholarship through the Community Foundation but may apply through the Sunburst Foundation by contacting their school guidance counselors for application information.
• Must declare a major in engineering, computer science, chemistry, physics, biology, botany, mathematics, oceanography, geology, pre-dental, pre-medical, pre-veterinary, nursing, astronomy, ecological sciences, pharmacy or zoological sciences.
• Must maintain a 3.0 GPA while in college.
• Demonstrate financial need.
• Preference to those who self-identify as a member of a minority group.

Terry Darby Memorial Scholarship Fund

About the Fund

Soccer was more than a game to Terry, it was his passion. Through his involvement as coach, referee, booster and administrator, he shared his passion with the youth of Northern Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast. Born in England, Terry immigrated to the U.S. in the 1950s and settled in Riviera Beach. He graduated from Suncoast High School, worked his way through college and became a Certified Public Accountant, opening his own practice in North Palm Beach.

The Homer Foundation provides emergency loans to nonprofits impacted by natural disasters or unforeseen circumstances. Their mission is to enhance the quality of life in the greater Homer area through philanthropic efforts. This program offers short-term, no-interest loans to support organizations facing closure, ensuring they can continue their vital services during challenging times. Nonprofits in the area are encouraged to apply for this assistance.

The Link Foundation Graduate Fellowship Program offers 12-week fellowships for graduate students to conduct marine science research at the Smithsonian Marine Station in Fort Pierce, Florida. Since 1998, the program has provided opportunities for students to engage in independent research alongside Smithsonian staff. With a total stipend of $9,000, applicants must be current graduate students who have completed at least one semester and possess strong English communication skills. This fellowship aims to support significant marine research initiatives.

The Educators Professional Development Scholarship, established by the Homer Foundation, supports local public school educators seeking to enhance their skills and obtain continuing education credits. Eligible educators can use funds for class tuition, professional development supplies, transportation, and guest speakers. This initiative aims to empower educators within the community, ensuring they have access to essential resources for their professional growth.

The CIS NAV Application Development Grant, administered by the Texas Education Agency, aims to enhance student support data management for Communities In Schools (CIS) affiliates throughout Texas. The grant will fund the creation of a secure, cloud-based application that facilitates real-time access to student data, improving operational efficiency and allowing CIS staff to concentrate on delivering direct support to students. This initiative will significantly reduce administrative burden and streamline processes.

The Lori Lee Kondo Scholarship Fund, established in 2020 by the Hawai'i Community Foundation, supports graduates of Kauai Public High Schools who demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0. Eligible applicants must be residents of Hawaii and continue their education at the undergraduate or graduate level. Previous recipients can reapply if they meet the criteria and remain in good academic standing, fostering academic success and community engagement.

The Laura Rowe Burdick Scholarship Fund, established by a dedicated educator from Wailuku Elementary School, supports Maui County high school seniors pursuing higher education or vocational training. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and a minimum GPA of 2.7. Preference is given to those committed to returning to their community after graduation. This scholarship aims to empower local students to succeed and contribute positively, fostering growth and resilience within Maui County.

The Kahiau Scholarship Fund, established in 2007, aims to support students in Hawaii by providing scholarships based on financial need and academic performance. Eligible candidates must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 and demonstrate community involvement related to the spirit of kahiau, meaning generous giving without expectation. Preference is given to previous recipients who continue to meet eligibility requirements. This fund fosters educational opportunities and community spirit among Hawaii's youth.

The Ka'a'awa Community Fund, established by the Ka'a'awa Community Association in 1995, aims to support long-time residents of Kualoa, Ka'a'awa, Makaua, and Kahana. To qualify, applicants must be Hawaii residents in financial need and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0. Preference is given to previous recipients who continue to meet these criteria. This fund exemplifies community support and encourages educational advancement among its local residents.

The Hope For Memphis Fund Grant aims to empower Christian ministries and leaders in the Memphis area to foster community transformation. By supporting holistic, Gospel-centered initiatives, this fund seeks to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of local nonprofits. Eligible organizations must be IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) entities that serve underserved populations within the Memphis Metro Area. This grant reflects the commitment of the Christian Community Foundation to uplift and support impactful community work.

The Joseph & Alice Duarte Memorial Fund, established in 2002 by Patrick Duarte, honors his parents and supports graduates of Holualoa Elementary School from Hawaii Island. This fund prioritizes applicants who demonstrate financial need and maintain good academic standing, specifically those from North or South Kona. Preference is given to previous recipients if they continue to meet eligibility criteria. The fund aims to empower local students by providing financial assistance for their educational pursuits.

The 'Imi Ho'ola Leadership Scholarship Fund, established in 2015, supports medical students enrolled in the Imi Ho'ola Post Baccalaureate Program at UH Manoa JABSOM. Eligible applicants must be Hawaii residents, demonstrate financial need, and have a minimum GPA of 2.0. They must also be full-time students accepted into the program and provide a recommendation letter highlighting their leadership qualities. This scholarship aims to foster future healthcare leaders.

The Hew-Shinn Scholarship Fund honors A.K. Hew's parents and emphasizes education's importance. This scholarship is available to Maui County residents enrolled in accredited vocational programs, with a minimum GPA of 2.0 required. Preference is given to previous recipients who continue to meet eligibility criteria. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and submit a letter of recommendation. The application deadline aligns with the pre-proposal deadline, ensuring timely consideration for interested students.

The Hawai'i Pizza Hut Scholarship Fund, established in 2007 by TD Food Group, Inc., supports residents of Hawaii pursuing higher education at two-year or four-year colleges. Eligible students must demonstrate financial need, maintain a GPA between 2.5 and 3.5, and be residents of Hawaii. Preference is given to previous recipients who continue to meet eligibility requirements and are in good academic standing. This fund aims to empower local students through education.

The Haseko Scholarship Fund, established in 2004 by the Hawai'i Community Foundation, supports residents of Ewa Beach pursuing vocational education. Eligible applicants must be Hawaii residents, demonstrate financial need, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.7, and enroll full-time in an AS or AAS career program within the University of Hawaii Community College system. This fund aims to enhance career opportunities for students in technical fields.
