TOT Grant Program

The Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) Grant was established in 2017. It is a project/program based award providing support to non-profit organizations located in Sacramento County that carry out community-based programs and/or services in the areas of arts and culture, community development and services, economic or workforce development​ and health and human services. Once awarded, grant funds are administered on a reimbursement basis upon review and approval of an invoice submission with supporting documentation.

The TOT Grant funding support is designed for, but not limited to:

• Training, development, and education; 
• Programs, projects and events that support tourism;  
• Projects that address a community issue or problem; and/or
• Projects that extend the reach of services to underserved populations.

Annually the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors dedicates $1,000,000 of the County's Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) revenue to be allocated to the TOT Grant Program through a competitive application process. Fiscal Year (FY) 2026-27 is the tenth TOT Grant funding cycle which will be approved during the June Recommended Budget hearings on June 2026.

Community Investment Program

Approved by the Oakland Board of Port Commissioners on July 2015, the Port of Oakland Community Investment Program seeks to add value and best serve our diverse communities within the Port’s footprint. This program provides grants to benefit the communities in the Port’s Local Impact Area (LIA) in Oakland, Alameda, Emeryville, and San Leandro, as well as communities in the Port’s Local Business Area (LBA) in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

The ACA Research Grant, administered by the Alberta Conservation Association, supports high-quality research projects aimed at the effective management of wildlife, fish populations, and their habitats in Alberta. Since 1997, this funding initiative has encouraged conservation efforts by partnering with local stakeholders, including anglers and hunters, to enhance the province's biodiversity. BCBS of Texas provides sponsorships to organizations focused on improving community health and wellness. With awards ranging from $250 to $5,000, these sponsorships support various activities like health fairs, drives, and seminars. Organizations can apply for support but cannot receive both a grant and a sponsorship. Importantly, no 501(c)(3) status is required, making it accessible for diverse initiatives aimed at fostering healthier communities.

The NC Biotechnology Center Fund Event and Meeting Grant provides vital financial support for events and meetings that enhance networking and information sharing within North Carolina's life sciences community. The grants include up to $3,000 for Biotechnology Event Sponsorships and up to $10,000 for Biotechnology Meeting Grants, catering to both local and international gatherings. This initiative aims to foster innovation and collaboration among researchers and companies, ultimately driving growth in the biotechnology sector.

The Urban Farm Conservation Mini-Grant provides up to $5,000 to support commercial urban farmers in Minnesota in implementing vital conservation practices. Funded by the USDA's NRCS, this grant helps farmers acquire equipment and materials necessary for sustainable management of soil, water, and biodiversity. Eligible projects may include soil improvement, water management systems, and enhancing plant and animal health. The Maryland Nita M. The Prenatal to Five (P-5) Innovation Fund aims to empower community-driven solutions for families in King County. With approximately $900,000 available, community leaders are invited to propose innovative, anti-racist approaches that prioritize Black, Indigenous, and families of color, as well as those facing systemic barriers. Proposals can request up to $30,000, or $50,000 for pilot activities, to implement impactful services and programs for underserved communities.

The Harvey Community Investment Grants, facilitated by the Harvey County United Way, aim to empower local non-profit and community organizations by funding programs focused on education, health, and income stability. With over 65 years of experience, the organization emphasizes measurable outcomes and sustainable impacts. Grant applicants must demonstrate a clear community need, illustrating their program's effectiveness in addressing issues like educational access, health care, and financial stability for residents. The initiative underscores a partnership approach, ensuring ongoing support beyond the grant.
