Best Grants for Teachers Continuing Education in Michigan

The Healthy Kids Initiative Grant aims to enhance child health and development from before birth through young adulthood. Launching in 2026, it focuses on Healthy Start, Healthy Families, and Healthy Schools. The initiative supports maternal and infant health, access to pediatric care, and school-based health services. The National Sea Grant Law Center is inviting proposals for the Coastal Resilience Program to research laws and policies addressing coastal resilience challenges such as sea level rise and flooding. With a funding cap of $150,000 over two years, this initiative aims to assess the effectiveness of existing policies and promote informed decision-making in coastal management. Up to two projects will be selected for funding, supporting innovative solutions to enhance community resilience against environmental threats.

The Ethnic Minorities and Women’s Internship Grant supports entry-level athletics administrative positions for one academic year, promoting diversity in NCAA Division II. It provides $30,000 for intern salaries and $3,000 for professional development, benefiting six schools annually from a total budget of $180,000. Eligible applicants must be active NCAA members, with a focus on enhancing ethnic minority and gender representation in athletics administration. This initiative encourages professional growth and compliance in diverse environments.

Craig L. Rasmussen Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship has been made possible by the generosity of Jack L. and Shirley Rasmussen, who established the Craig L. Rasmussen Memorial Scholarship of the Community Foundation for Mason County in memory of their son, Craig.

The Joyce Awards

The Joyce Awards provide direct, catalytic support to Great Lakes-based artists and culture bearers whose visionary creative practices meaningfully impact and advance racial equity in their communities.

Informed by conversations with artists, arts leaders, and past awardees across the region, the new Joyce Awards program includes unrestricted awards of $100,000, paired with a $40,000 grant to a Great Lakes organization selected by the artist to help realize, expand, or deepen the impact of their work in the region.

Administered by United States Artists, the program now welcomes both peer and self-nominations and has expanded eligibility state-wide in six states. Artists and culture bearers based in Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin will be eligible in 2026, followed by Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio in 2027. Following a nomination, application, and panel review process, four Awards will be awarded in each year.

Each year, over 500 college-bound or career and technical education students benefit from our scholarship awards.

Dr. Raquel Ontiveros Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Raquel Ontiveros’ life was cut short when she drowned after being caught in a rogue wave while on vacation in Mexico. During her lifetime, Raquel packed significant accomplishments and contributions to her community. These accomplishments included raising two sons, earning a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and an M.A. from Saginaw Valley State University, serving as principal at Jerome Elementary in Saginaw and teaching in the Saginaw Public Schools for many years. As an educator and administrator, Raquel stressed the importance of individuality and creativity.

Raquel was committed also to community service. She was appointed to the Hispanic Advisory Committee to the State Legislature in the early 1980s and also served on the Commission on Spanish Speaking Affairs for Michigan. Locally, she served on the boards of the Rape Crisis Center and Big Brothers/Big Sisters, among others.

Friends and family remember Raquel for her high energy, infectious enthusiasm and what one friend called her “90-kilowatt” smile. They established the Dr. Raquel Ontiveros Memorial Scholarship to help others attain their educational goals in Raquel’s memory.

Nature's Path's Gardens for Good program empowers communities by funding organic gardens that address food insecurity. Since 2010, it has donated $930,000 CAD to support 120 gardens. In 2023, grants of $6,500 each will be awarded to 20 gardens across the U.S. and Canada. Eligible applicants must be registered non-profits with urban organic agriculture projects that serve low-income communities, promoting sustainable practices and inclusivity.

Douglas C. Iles Memorial Scholarship

The Douglas C. Iles Memorial Scholarship has been established by his wife, Sandy, and his children, Ryan, Jeffrey, and Kristen, with the hope of honoring Doug’s incredible legacy. Doug was a lifelong Saginaw resident and loved giving back to his community. Doug touched countless lives and his influence has reached not only those in Saginaw and the state of Michigan but many throughout the United States as well. 

Doug carried that same passion with him as he sought to foster and mentor the next generation of financial service professionals. He was actively involved as an adjunct professor at his alma mater, Central Michigan University, where he was also the chair of the Personal Financial Planning Program. Doug strongly valued education and was passionate about helping students achieve their educational goals. He was proud of his students and always showed up excited to pass on his knowledge and experience to scores of Chippewas at Central Michigan University (CMU). In honor of Doug’s love for helping others, both at CMU and the community at large, this scholarship has been developed to help foster the next generation of business students at CMU.  

Doug’s sudden and unexpected passing left a permanent void in the lives of those that he touched. It is the hope of his family that this memorial scholarship will help others to remember Doug’s zest for life and his innate ability to find the perfect way to quietly help others with his time, talents, and treasures. In this small way, Doug’s legacy will live on in the lives of students that share his passion for business as they further their education at CMU. 

The NRA Foundation: Michigan Grants provides vital financial support for educational and public service programs related to shooting sports. The foundation focuses on promoting firearms safety, educating individuals about firearms history, and conducting research to enhance firearms safety techniques. Eligible organizations include government entities and recognized nonprofits, while discrimination based on protected characteristics is prohibited. This initiative aims to foster community engagement through grants that benefit youth and promote responsible firearm use.

Peggy (Kommer) Novosad Scholarship

Open to full time graduate students who are residents of Kent County for 2+ years, attending college in the state of Michigan studying business or law, with a minimum 3.5 GPA. 

The Emergency Community Water Assistance Grants in Michigan provide vital support for rural communities facing water emergencies. Eligible entities can apply for grants to construct or repair water infrastructure, ensuring safe drinking water access. This program responds to various disasters, including droughts and chemical spills, helping communities recover and maintain essential water services. With funding up to $1 million, the initiative fosters partnerships and sustainable practices, ultimately enhancing public health and environmental resilience.

The Make/Shift Pitch Haus Competition, hosted by CultureSource, aims to celebrate Michigan's vibrant creative community by awarding four grants of $25,000 each. This initiative supports artists, makers, and cultural entrepreneurs who contribute to the state's identity and economic growth. Participants will utilize a versatile shipping container for various artistic activations, fostering collaboration and innovation. By investing in creative talents, Pitch Haus not only enhances cultural expression but also aids in talent retention and community development across Michigan.

Reach for Your Goal Scholarship

Open to students who are Kent County residents attending college in the state of Michigan and with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

The Great Lakes Foundation Grant supports projects aimed at preserving wilderness areas and promoting marine safety in the Great Lakes region. As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the foundation has awarded over $318,212 since its inception in 1993. Grants have funded various initiatives, including breakwater construction and academic research, to enhance appreciation and safety of the marine environment for both members and the general public.

The Morley Foundation Grant, established in 1948, supports nonprofit organizations in Saginaw County, Michigan, focusing on welfare, health, education, and civic improvement. Committed to community stewardship, the foundation invests in initiatives that enhance the quality of life, prioritizing local needs over broad issues. Grants are granted quarterly, with multi-year commitments generally reserved for capital projects. Eligible applicants must have 501(c)(3) status and provide detailed financial and organizational information.

The Excellence in Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Award

The purpose of the Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award is to recognize the contribution of a member who has demonstrated outstanding commitment and made significant contributions to advance equitable health outcomes and reduce health disparities through research, which has enhanced the science and practice of nursing in the MNRS region.  

Project Lead The Way is offering a rolling grant opportunity for schools across the US to implement the PLTW Gateway program for the first time. With total funding of $9,100, the grant covers participation fees and training registration costs. Schools, including public, private, and charter, are encouraged to apply, particularly those serving low-income and minority majority populations. This initiative aims to enhance educational pathways in STEM for diverse student groups.

Rosemary Cook Education Scholarship

Open to high school seniors graduating from a Grand Rapids Public Schools high school attending college in the state of Michigan full time, majoring in education and with a minimum 2.75 GPA.

Charles E. Mueller, M.D. Scholarship

Charles E. Mueller was raised in Long Island, New York. In 1961 he received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He went on to study at the University of Michigan Medical School, graduating in 1965. After an internship at St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he spent two years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he earned the Army Commendation Medal. In 1968, he returned to Ann Arbor and completed his residency in General Radiology in 1971. From 1971 until July 1972, he was an instructor at the University Hospital. In July 1972, he came to Saginaw and joined Medical Radiologic Consultants (MRC), P.C., servicing Saginaw General Hospital.

The GrantAs community foundations leverage new and innovative partnerships and approaches to build more equitable communities for all, CMF’s Community Foundation Committee has revised the endowment funding model to ensure we are effectively supporting community foundations in growing their capacity and leadership. The committee has reserved a pool of funding within the Community Foundation Endowment Fund to inspire and support new ideas and innovative practices in community philanthropy. 

In addition to the existing support offered to CMF community foundation members, funding is available on a first-come, first-serve basis for the following priority areas: 

• Advancing Racial Equity: Community foundations may apply for funding to support their needs in addressing racial equity issues. 
• Capacity Building: Community foundations may apply for funding for training or education to increase their capacity. 
• Technical Assistance: Beyond the support already provided for software transitions, training and team-up grants, community foundations can apply for support or other assistance needed to work remotely and adapt amid COVID-19. 

The Great Lakes Federal Grant Navigation Program offers free assistance to local governments in accessing critical federal funding from the American Rescue Plan Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This program aims to simplify the grant application process, especially for smaller municipalities, by providing one-on-one support and facilitating collaboration among cohort members. By participating, cities can maximize the impact of federal dollars and strengthen their communities in the wake of economic challenges.

The Ford Philanthropy Advanced Manufacturing & Trades SkillPointe Scholarship provides $5,000 scholarships for students pursuing high-demand skilled trades and technical careers. Sponsored by the SkillPointe Foundation, this initiative addresses the skills gap by funding scholarships for various fields, including manufacturing, energy, and construction. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution and reside in specific locations. The program aims to empower individuals with hands-on skills and industry-recognized credentials.

The Michigan Health Endowment Fund is offering a Behavioral Health RFP aimed at improving access to high-quality mental health and substance use disorder care for Michigan residents, particularly children and older adults. Grants ranging from $50,000 to $500,000 are available to nonprofits and government entities that align with health equity and innovative care delivery models. Priority is given to projects that enhance collaboration, utilize technology, and address behavioral health needs of vulnerable populations.

Capacity building grants

The Capacity Building grant program assists health-focused, community-based organizations in becoming stronger, more effective institutions within their community, allowing them to spend more time and energy focused on their missions. Grants also support collaborative efforts among providers, service agencies, and community-based organizations to cooperatively and sustainably address health issues.

The Health Fund makes grants of up to $300,000 for both organizational and collaborative capacity building projects for health-focused organizations that support children and older adults, or that are aligned with our priority areas. 

Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources

The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources’ (OER) mission is to lead the state toward a clean, affordable, reliable, and equitable energy future. OER develops policies and programs that respond to the state's evolving energy needs, while advancing environmental sustainability, energy security, and a vibrant clean energy economy. OER is committed to working with public- and private-sector stakeholders to ensure that all Rhode Islanders have access to cost-effective, resilient, and sustainable energy solutions.

Agricultural Energy Grant Program

The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources (OER) and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) request Rhode Island Agricultural Operations to submit applications seeking funding for energy projects in an effort to improve energy efficiency, promote renewable energy, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 

The following clean energy investments and technologies will be considered eligible for this program, so long as each proposed project meets all program requirements.

• Renewable Energy: Photovoltaics (PV); Small Scale Wind; Biomass; Energy Storage
• Energy Efficiency: Envelope Insulation; LED Lighting; HVAC Systems (especially heat pump technologies); Automatic Temperature Controls; Variable Speed Motors, Drives, & Pumps; Solar Thermal

The NCAA Division II Degree Completion Award provides financial assistance to student-athletes who have exhausted their athletics eligibility, enabling them to complete their first undergraduate degree. Since its inception in 2001, nearly $9 million has supported approximately 1,875 athletes, with a remarkable 90 percent graduation rate among recipients. The award covers tuition costs up to $15,000 for remaining credits and may be used in the summer term or short terms surrounding the final undergraduate year.
