PLTW Biomedical Science- Program Expansion

Program Requirements

Grantee must offer at least one PLTW Biomedical Science course in the 2026-2027 academic year. Schools may implement any PLTW Biomedical Science courses of their choosing.

Most state and local governments, private nonprofits, and federally recognized tribes in rural Michigan can access funding through USDA: Rural Development to build or improve water and waste systems. Grants support drinking water, sewer, solid waste, and stormwater projects, which may benefit schools and districts planning facility upgrades alongside teacher-focused initiatives.

Michigan college music majors from Saginaw County can access funding through the Saginaw Community Foundation to support their undergraduate studies. This merit-based scholarship requires a minimum 3.0 GPA, part- or full-time enrollment at a Michigan college or university, and demonstrated involvement in music, and may benefit teachers pursuing continuing education in music.

The Patterson Foundation offers Assistance Dog Program Grants to support organizations providing service animals to veterans and individuals with disabilities. Funding is available for projects that expand capacity, personnel costs related to puppy training, and program support aimed at improving client experiences. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) non-profits and can request grants up to $35,000 for capital projects or $10,000 for program support. Applications are accepted through a two-step process.

Indo-Pak Scholarship

The Indo-Pak Friendship Society of Mid-Michigan was formed to promote fellowship among members of the Indian-American and Pakistani-American communities. Together, their mission is to enhance the quality of life for the entire Mid-Michigan community by emphasizing cultural and service activities by individuals and groups.

Nonprofit 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations working on voting rights and democracy access in Michigan can access funding through Public Wise to support unrestricted operational needs. Grants may benefit civic education or democracy-focused programs run by educators or education nonprofits, especially efforts expanding ballot access and building power in BIPOC communities.

The Worthington Family Foundation Grant Program supports nonprofit organizations dedicated to the arts and environmental initiatives benefiting children and young adults. Established in honor of Betty J. O'Leary, this foundation aims to carry on her legacy of intellectual curiosity and community service. Through its annual funding, it seeks to empower organizations that foster creativity and environmental stewardship, ensuring a positive impact on future generations.

The Great Lakes Stewardship Grant aims to enhance awareness and understanding of the Great Lakes' ecology, empowering residents to advocate for sustainable fisheries. Saginaw County Association of Retired School Personnel Scholarship

The Saginaw County Association of Retired School Personnel is made up of approximately 1,000 retired Saginaw County school workers, including teachers, administrators, librarians, custodians, cafeteria workers and secretaries.

The Saginaw County Association of Retired School Personnel established the Saginaw County Association of Retired School Personnel Scholarship in 1995 to assist a graduate of any Saginaw County public high school who plans to pursue a career in education at an accredited college or university in Michigan.

Project Lead The Way (PLTW) offers grants for schools to implement the PLTW Computer Science program from 2025 to 2028. Schools must provide at least one PLTW course in the first year and two courses in the second year. The total grant is $14,000, covering participation fees and training costs. Eligible institutions include public, private, and charter schools located in the U.S., with special encouragement for those serving low-income or minority-majority populations.

The Fred and Barbara Erb Family Foundation is dedicated to fostering a healthy Great Lakes ecosystem and a vibrant Southeast Michigan community. Since its inception, it has invested over $180 million in environmental, cultural, and educational initiatives. As it transitions to spend down its assets by 2034, the Foundation aims to make bold, impactful investments that address urgent community needs and promote sustainable development.

Saginaw Community Foundation – Collaborative Scholarship

The Saginaw Community Foundation (SCF) established the SCF Collaborative Scholarships in 2006 as a collaboration of tributes to individuals and organizations. This 2007 scholarship is made possible, in-part by the generosity of our donors and in memory/tribute of the following: Rev. Dr. Roosevelt Austin, Sr., Dorothy and Robert Blue, Shamonica Brown, Zoetta Davis, C.K. Eddy Memorial Fund, Joseph M. Godard, Kanika Goodman, Michael Jeffers Memorial Fund, Parker Thomas Miller, Burris and Kathie Smith, and Carman “Cart” Washburn.

The Gene and Donna Mallak Memorial Scholarship was established by their daughter Jeanne in honor of the tremendous support they gave her to pursue her college dreams. Her hope is that this scholarship will provide the same support for those who receive this award to also pursue their dreams.

Paul and Deanna Virciglio Scholarship

Paul Virciglio, along with his wife, Deanna, has established the Paul & Deanna Virciglio Education Fund, which will be used to award scholarships to students pursuing graduate studies in math or science.

“I noted the dramatic structural changes taking place in the business world as we prepared for the new information society. There’s a demand for higher-skilled employees, which places an emphasis on education, especially in math and science,” said Paul Virciglio.

Frank Rios, Jr. Line Worker Scholarship

Before COVID-19 took Frank from us, he was a hard-working family man. Frank believed in mentoring the next generation. Whether that was inside the trade of linework, community or family, he was always turning back around to help the next in line. Whether it was around linework, safety, fishing, golfing or life Frank was willing to share his knowledge and passion with others. Frank was a hardworking leader of character that had a passion for linework and making his community better through mentoring the future generations. This scholarship will be awarded to an applicant who shares these same attributes and passions.

The recipient of the Edward and Marion Petzko Student Athlete Scholarship will be an above average student that received a varsity letter in either track or golf.

Thome Aging Well Grant Program

As communities navigate rapid shifts in resources, rising housing and living costs, and other emerging challenges, this final round of Thome Aging Well funding aims to assist organizations that are supporting older adults through these uncertain times. These flexible, one-year grants are designed to bolster housing-based programs, services, and supports that safeguard the health, stability, and well-being of older adults during this moment of change.

Award

• Up to $200,000

This funding opportunity aims to provide flexible support to affordable housing organizations and past Enterprise Thome Aging Well grantees to respond to the urgent or emerging needs of their residents or clients with effective solutions. Eligible organizations must serve older adults (aged 55 and older) with lower incomes living in Michigan and Maryland.

Grants will have a one-year period of performance.

The Huntington Impact Investment Philanthropy Grant Program aims to strengthen communities by supporting nonprofit organizations that enhance self-sufficiency and social equality. With a focus on areas such as community revitalization, affordable housing, and economic development, the program prioritizes initiatives that serve low- and moderate-income individuals. Organizations with IRS tax-exempt status can apply for funding to address critical community needs, fostering a more equitable environment for all.

The National Coastal Resilience Fund (NCRF) aims to protect coastal communities through nature-based solutions, enhancing habitats while addressing the growing threats of climate change. Established in 2018, the fund focuses on restoring vital ecosystems like marshes and reefs to mitigate flooding impacts. With rising sea levels and increasing storm intensity, NCRF invests in community-led projects that foster resilience, ensuring both people and wildlife can adapt to changing environmental conditions.

The Watershed Council Grant Program, managed by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), invites proposals from watershed-based organizations to enhance organizational administration, conservation, and educational initiatives. With a total funding of $600,000 available, individual grants are capped at $40,000 for a 12-month period. Projects should focus on capacity building, water quality improvement, and community engagement to foster sustainable water resource management.

The Health Information Outreach Award, funded by the National Library of Medicine, aims to enhance access to essential health information for underrepresented populations and healthcare professionals. This initiative focuses on improving health literacy and equity through diverse projects, including training, technology access, and community outreach. Eligible organizations from select Midwestern states can apply, prioritizing innovative solutions that address health disparities and promote informed health decisions among vulnerable communities.

The NCAA Division II Degree Completion Award provides financial assistance to student-athletes who have exhausted their athletics eligibility, enabling them to complete their first undergraduate degree. Since its inception in 2001, nearly $9 million has supported approximately 1,875 athletes, with a remarkable 90 percent graduation rate among recipients. The award covers tuition costs up to $15,000 for remaining credits and may be used in the summer term or short terms surrounding the final undergraduate year.

The Ladies Literary Club Scholarship, offered by the Grand Rapids Community Foundation, supports students from Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Kent, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, or Ottawa counties. Eligible applicants must be studying writing in Michigan and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. This scholarship aims to empower local talent by removing barriers to academic success, enabling passionate students to pursue their educational goals and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

The Carls Foundation Grant focuses on enhancing children's welfare in Michigan and preserving natural areas. It supports non-profit organizations that are innovative and effective in their missions. Grant types include capital grants and seed money for multi-year projects. Eligible applicants must have 501(c)(3) status. The foundation prioritizes health care programs, recreational opportunities for disadvantaged children, and environmental education, while excluding funding for individuals, endowments, or special events.
