APA Mission Statement

The American Philosophical Association promotes the discipline and profession of philosophy, both within the academy and in the public arena. The APA supports the professional development of philosophers at all levels and works to foster greater understanding and appreciation of the value of philosophical inquiry.

APA: Nicholas Rescher Prize

The Prize winner will receive a $1,000 award upon delivering the prize lecture. If travel funding presents a financial hardship to the selected winner, and if funds in the Prize endowment are, in the APA’s sole discretion, sufficient to do so, up to $1,000 in travel funding may be provided.

The Nicholas Rescher Prize Lecture will be published in the Proceedings and Addresses of the American Philosophical Association or any other publication where the APA regularly publishes the other prize lectures. The Nicholas Rescher Prize winner will be recognized by a letter and certificate from the APA, the usual APA announcement of prizes, and appropriate recognition in an APA prize reception.

Nature of the Prize

Winners of the Prize will have made substantial, outstanding contributions to systematic metaphysics, broadly construed, during the course of their careers. The Prize winner must agree to present a lecture (to be named “The Nicholas Rescher Prize Lecture”) on a topic in systematic metaphysics, broadly construed; the lecture should be accessible to a broad philosophical audience. The lecture will be presented at an APA divisional meeting, normally a meeting within one year following the selection of the Prize winner. The lecture will be presented biennially, and will rotate among the divisional meetings on a regular schedule set by the APA.

Nominations

Any APA member may nominate any other APA member for the Nicholas Rescher Prize; self-nominations are not permitted. Nominations must include a brief statement of support from the nominator.

Selection Process

The selection committee may provide additional nominees for the Prize during the selection process. Members of the selection committee are appointed by a process determined by the APA, in its sole discretion, consistent with other prizes the association awards.

There are several grant opportunities available for CMF community foundation members through CMF’s Technology Grants: 

• Software Training: Support for software training of general ledger, donor or grants management systems
  • This option is limited to 50% of the total cost, with a maximum of $2,500 available per request. 
• Team-up Grants: This support could be used for group training or software development. 
  • Up to $5,000 in support is available for a group technology/software project that benefits at least three community foundations. 
• Transition Support: Support is available for key staff turnover or for a transition to a third-party accounting provider.
  • This support may be used to assist in the purchase, migration and or training costs related to these transitions. a maximum $5000 is available.
• Cybersecurity Audit: Support for community foundations with assets under $50 million is available to support the Digital Elevation Information Technology Security Assessment process.
  • Grant levels are as follows:
    • Assets of $1 - $10 million: $2,000
    • Assets over $10 - $25 million: $1,500
    • Assets over $25 - $50 million: $1,000

• Equipment Purchase: Support up to $2,500 for the purchase of equipment such as laptops, printers or other electronic devices (i.e. OWL cameras).
  • This option is limited to foundations with assets under $25 million and should be used for one-time purchases such as staff expansions or emergency replacements only.

About the IAC

The IAC Mission

The mission of the Interagency Commission on School Construction is to achieve a safe, healthy, and educationally sufficient learning environment for every child attending a public school in Maryland. Our vision is a fiscally sustainable statewide portfolio of Pre-K-12 school facilities that will remain educationally sufficient for current and future generations of students and teachers.

Capital Improvement Program

The CIP is the State’s largest school construction program, averaging at least $280 million per year in recent years. CIP funding can be used for major new, renewal, or replacement projects as well as for addition projects or capital maintenance projects (systemic renovations). 

The CIP includes supplemental funding from the Significant Enrollment Growth and Relocatable Classroom (EGRC) Capital Grant Program.

The program is governed by Title 5, Subtitle 3 of the Education Article, Annotated Code of Maryland and regulations promulgated by the IAC in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR).

The Minde Browning Professional Development Fund Grant, established by The Indianapolis Foundation, supports professional development activities for library staff in Marion County. Grants of up to $1,500 are available for attending conferences, workshops, and courses that enhance skills and benefit library patrons. Applicants must demonstrate how their development will positively impact their community. Applications are accepted year-round, with a 60-day advance notice required.

The Neighbor-to-Neighbor Grant provides crucial emergency funding to individuals and families facing economic hardships in the Berkshire Taconic region. This program offers small, strategic grants for overdue utilities, medical bills, short-term housing costs, and transportation issues. Funds are disbursed directly to vendors on behalf of those in need, ensuring immediate assistance without long-term obligations. Supported by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, the initiative exemplifies community solidarity, with local social service agencies facilitating the distribution of aid.

The smART Ventures grant is a Seattle-based program offering flexible funding between $500 and $1,500 for innovative arts and culture projects. It aims to support underserved communities, encourage public engagement, and foster creativity. Applications are reviewed monthly with no set deadline. Eligible applicants include individuals, groups, and organizations based in Seattle, focusing on projects that create community impact and expand access to cultural opportunities. Priority is given to those representing underserved populations.

The Philip J. Wyatt Award in Analytical Chemistry, established in 1947 and endowed by the Wyatt Family Foundation in 2026, recognizes outstanding contributions to analytical chemistry. Offered by the American Chemical Society, the award includes a $5,000 prize and a certificate, with up to $2,500 for travel expenses to the award presentation meeting. This award supports diversity and inclusion by being available regardless of race, gender, or background, promoting a global community in the field of chemistry.

The MPS Materials Research Programs, funded by the National Science Foundation, aim to enhance the understanding of materials and their diverse applications. These programs cover areas such as biomaterials, ceramics, condensed matter physics, and electronic materials. With an emphasis on transformative research, NSF MPS encourages proposals that are innovative and foundational, without the necessity for immediate commercial outcomes, fostering long-term advancements in materials science.

The Georgia Health Foundation Grant, established in 1985, supports nonprofits in Georgia addressing local health issues while encouraging collaboration. Grants are awarded to organizations eligible under IRS guidelines, focusing on charitable, scientific, or educational purposes. Applicants are urged to propose sustainable programs with regional or national health impacts. Note that the application deadline is June 1, with initial reviews in July. The foundation typically does not fund capital projects or campaigns.

The Plant, Learn and Grow! School Gardening 201 program, offered by The City Garden Clubs of New York, equips classroom teachers with practical strategies to enhance student learning through garden projects. Participants will explore hands-on gardening techniques and important topics such as pest management and soil quality. This scholarship covers course fees, ensuring that educators can integrate gardening into their curriculum effectively. Join this initiative to foster environmental awareness and enrich educational experiences.

The Newberry Library offers short-term residential fellowships for individual research, providing scholars with the opportunity to explore its extensive collections. These fellowships, lasting one to two months and offering a stipend of $3,000 per month, are open to researchers at various academic stages, including ABD candidates. The program supports diverse scholars, welcoming applicants from any nationality and those residing in the Chicago area, thereby fostering a rich community of inquiry.

The Newberry: Fellows' Fellowships offer scholars the opportunity to engage with the Newberry's extensive collections for one to two months. Designed for researchers at various stages, including ABD candidates, these fellowships support those with specific research needs. With a stipend of $3,000 per month, the program is open to scholars from any field and nationality, fostering a diverse community of learners and advancing scholarship in historical and cultural studies.

The John S. Aubrey Fellowship at The Newberry Library supports scholars with a demonstrated need for the library's collection. This short-term fellowship is available for one month, offering a stipend of $3,000 per month. It is open to scholars at various stages, including ABD candidates and those with terminal degrees. The Newberry Library, founded in 1887, serves as a vital cultural institution in Chicago, providing access to extensive historical resources.

The American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (ASECS) Fellowship at The Newberry Library supports scholars investigating the period from 1660 to 1815. This short-term fellowship allows researchers to utilize the library's extensive collections for one to two months, with a stipend of $3,000 per month. Open to faculty, postdoctoral scholars, and ABD PhD candidates, it encourages international participation and aims to foster scholarly engagement with the rich historical resources available.

The Anne Jacobson Schutte Fellowship at The Newberry Library supports early career scholars focusing on the early modern period (1300-1700). This one-month fellowship offers a stipend of $3,000 per month and emphasizes research related to women’s studies, spirituality, or Venice. Open to postdoctoral scholars and PhD candidates, it encourages applicants from any nationality, while also providing opportunities for Chicago-area scholars. The fellowship honors Schutte’s significant contributions to the field.

The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Illinois Fellowship, offered by The Newberry Library, supports scholars researching early American or Transatlantic history. This short-term fellowship includes a stipend of $3,000 per month for a duration of one month. It is open to postdoctoral scholars, PhD candidates, and ABD graduate students of any nationality, promoting academic exploration within a historic cultural institution.

New York State Energy Research and Development Authority

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) offers objective information and analysis, innovative programs, technical expertise, and support to help New Yorkers increase energy efficiency, save money, use renewable energy, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. A public benefit corporation, NYSERDA has been advancing energy solutions and working to protect the environment since 1975.

Green Jobs - Green New York Energy Studies

Through Green Jobs - Green New York (GJGNY), energy studies are available for small commercial and not-for-profits to identify and analyze opportunities to make buildings more efficient, which lowers associated energy costs. Small commercial with 100 or fewer full-time equivalent employees or not-for-profit organizations of any size are eligible for this offering, in facilities 50,000 sq ft or less.

Studies include:

• A comprehensive walk through of the facility
• Site staff interviews
• Utility bill analysis
• Fuel-neutral, unbiased evaluation of potential low-cost/no-cost and capital improvement energy efficiency upgrades
• Energy study report that outlines potential energy and cost savings opportunities for your facility.

The Green Chemistry Student Chapter Award recognizes ACS student chapters for their commitment to green chemistry initiatives. This award highlights the importance of green chemistry in education, encouraging students to engage in activities that promote sustainability. Eligible chapters must submit detailed summaries of at least three green chemistry projects, demonstrating their understanding of the principles and practices that contribute to a more sustainable future.

The Experimental Physics Investigators Initiative, launched by the Gordon E. and Betty I. Moore Foundation, aims to support mid-career scientists in experimental physics. With a funding of $1,250,000 over five years, this program encourages innovative research and collaboration among scientists. Applicants from U.S. institutions are invited to submit pre-proposals, with about 50% advancing to full proposals. The initiative fosters inclusivity and equity while aiming to make significant impacts in the field of experimental physics.

The Deborah Rochelle Teacher Grant, established by the Kelly Gene Cook Sr. Charitable Foundation, supports educational initiatives by awarding grants up to $5,000 to teachers and professional staff in East Baton Rouge, Livingston, and St. Tammany Parishes. Initiated in 1991 and named in 2007, this program enhances educational outcomes through research-based projects that directly benefit students, honoring the legacy of its founder, Kelly Gene Cook, Sr.

The Madeleine B. Wildes Fund Grant offers financial assistance to residents of Salisbury facing hardships due to illness or misfortune. Established by Madeleine Wildes, the fund supports projects by nonprofit organizations that help the needy in Lakeville and Salisbury. Grants typically range from $1,000 to $3,000, with potential for higher amounts. This endowed fund aims to continue its support indefinitely, reflecting Miss Wildes' legacy of generosity and community care.

The City of San Diego offers several funding opportunities for nonprofit organizations each year through an annual process consisting of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) and a competitive Request for Proposals (RFP).

Arts, Culture & Community Festivals (ACCF)

Through discretionary Arts, Culture, and Community Festivals (ACCF) funds derived from Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) funds, City Council Offices can award nonprofit organizations funding to promote local arts and culture.

Funds awarded to organizations are awarded at the discretion of each Council Office. ACCF funding may be awarded as a supplemental allocation for nonprofits that have already received an OSP or CCSD award from the Cultural Affairs Department for FY27. Funding may also be awarded to nonprofits for a new project that has not previously received OSP or CCSD support. ACCF funding is solely reimbursement‑based.

ADECA Alabama Weatherization Assistance Program

The Alabama Weatherization Assistance Program receives funding from the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. ADECA contracts with local community action agencies and the Central Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission to deliver weatherization assistance to low-income households in all 67 counties across the state.

The mission is to reduce energy costs for low-income households, particularly for the elderly, people with disabilities and families with children, by improving the energy efficiency of their homes while ensuring their health and safety. In order to receive assistance, the applicant’s income must not exceed 200% of the federally established poverty level.

Alabama Weatherization Assistance requires participants agree to minor alterations to their homes based on an assessment and energy audit conducted by trained professionals to determine the most cost-effective means of reducing energy consumption. Health and safety checks are also performed on the home.

The Superior Health Foundation offers Spring and Fall Proactive Grants to address healthcare needs in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. With a focus on accessibility, behavioral health, chronic disease prevention, and wellness initiatives, this funding aims to improve health outcomes for underserved communities. Eligible organizations include grassroots groups and nonprofits dedicated to enhancing health education and access. Grants range from $5,000 to $75,000, with a total of $750,000 available in 2025, supporting innovative projects that promote health and well-being.
