MN Public Works - Broadband Infrastructure Grant

Broadband Infrastructure grants assist projects that help households and businesses reach the State of Minnesota broadband speed goal. 

Funding Availability

• Funded at $1,000,000 for Fiscal Year 2026 from the Taconite Environmental Protection Fund.
• The number of grants awarded is variable and dependent upon the amounts awarded to successful
• applicants.
• 1:1 match per project required.
• In-kind materials and/or labor are not eligible towards the project match.
• Consideration will be given to projects that leverage greater amounts of funding for a project from other sources.
• Architectural and engineering fees in excess of 10% of the total project costs are ineligible for reimbursement.
• Applications should be submitted within nine months of the project construction start date.

The Creative Communities San Diego Grant Program supports nonprofit organizations in delivering impactful arts and culture projects that engage diverse communities. Projects can include art exhibitions, performances, and festivals, fostering a sustainable creative ecosystem in San Diego. Applicants can receive funding based on project budgets and organizational rankings, with awards ranging from $5,000 to 43% of project costs. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility and promote creativity in local neighborhoods.

The ArtsWA Art Project Grant supports organizations in Washington State providing public art programming. Eligible groups can request funding between $2,000 and $5,000, and must demonstrate a history of project execution. This reimbursement grant is focused on projects with arts as a main component and does not require an arts-focused mission. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, Local Arts Agencies, and Tribal Governments.

The Ohio Arts Council's ArtsNEXT program offers competitive funding for innovative and experimental projects aimed at enhancing the arts in Ohio. With awards typically up to $25,000, this grant supports bold ideas that push artistic boundaries, improve accessibility, and encourage diversity in arts experiences. Projects may include collaborations, new programming strategies, or technology advancements that foster community engagement. Organizations must demonstrate a commitment to artistic evolution and meet specific eligibility criteria to apply.

The Albemarle Foundation Impact Grants support local 501(c)(3) organizations within 50 miles of Albemarle Corporation locations, offering up to $15,000 in funding for community programs. Open twice a year, these grants aim to enhance workforce development, promote economic vitality, and foster inclusive communities. Eligible applicants can receive funding only once per calendar year. The Foundation prioritizes organizations that do not discriminate based on race, gender, or other protected categories.

The Local Share Account (LSA) Grants in Philadelphia, administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, provide funding derived from slot machine license fees. These grants support various initiatives including economic development, neighborhood revitalization, and community improvement projects that enhance public interest within the city. Eligible applicants can access funds to foster growth and uplift local communities.

The Pfizer Emergent Leader Award recognizes up to eight individuals in the second year of their graduate studies or post-doctoral research in fields such as organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and chemical biology. This award supports female-identified individuals and provides a $1,500 stipend for travel expenses to present research at the ACS Spring Meeting. Awardees will be honored at the WCC Luncheon and the ‘Just Cocktails’ reception, promoting inclusivity in science.

Robert H. Moser Essay Award

To honor the late Robert H. Moser, MD (AΩA, Georgetown University, 1969). Awarded to one outstanding essay celebrating the life of a physician like Dr. Moser who has enriched the world through his/her career in medicine.

Background

Dr. Moser organized and worked in one of the first MASH units during the Korean War. He was a pioneering flight controller for NASA during the Project Mercury and Project Apollo space programs, served as Chief of Medicine at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, and treated patients at the Kalaupapa Leper Colony in Molokai. He was Chief of Medicine at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, editor of JAMA, Executive Vice President of the American College of Physicians and a member of The Pharos Editorial Board.

The Award

One award of $4,500 for an essay highlighting the life of a physician who has enriched the world of medicine. The winning essay will be published in The Pharos. The winning author must submit a W-9 form prior to issuance of the award check.

State Energy Program

The Ohio Department of Development’s State Energy Program (SEP) helps businesses, manufacturers, nonmanufacturers, nonprofits, colleges/universities, local governments, and others implement energy efficiency improvements to lower energy use and costs.

Energy efficiency measures must reduce utility energy usage by at least 15 percent, as shown by an ASHRAE Level II energy audit.

The SEP consists of two programs: Energy Efficiency Program for Manufacturers and Nonmanufacturers (EEPM/NM) – Audit Support; and Ohio Energy Efficiency Program (OEEP) – Implementation funds for energy efficiency retrofits

Eligible Applicants

Small businesses, small-to-medium-sized manufacturers, school districts, nonprofits, and local governments are eligible to apply for the program. Manufacturers applying for the program will participate in energy planning specifically for manufacturing. 

Please contact one of our approved energy auditors for additional information on the EEPM/NM audits. Our auditors walk applicants through the grant process and will provide full funding information based on audit requirements.  

The MetroWest Fund for Arts & Culture Grant Program supports arts and cultural initiatives that enhance community engagement and diversity appreciation. By providing equitable access to artistic expression, it strengthens the local economy and cultural heritage. The Foundation for MetroWest awards discretionary grants to eligible organizations, ensuring that the benefits of art and culture reach all residents of the MetroWest region. This initiative fosters creativity and community building, making MetroWest a vibrant place to live.

The William C. (Bill) and Dr. Patra Moss Janney Fund, established by Dr. Janney as a memorial, supports educational initiatives in Raleigh County. This fund, now a field of interest fund following her passing in 2019, has $5,000 available for grants. Eligible applicants include non-profits and public institutions with verified 501(c)(3) status. The Beckley Area Foundation manages this fund, promoting charitable giving to enhance community education and resources.

The Minnesota Department of Education offers the Public Library Association Conference 2026 Travel Grant to support library staff in attending the conference from April 1-3, 2026, in Minneapolis. This initiative aims to enhance professional development, networking, and the sharing of best practices. Priority is given to first-time attendees and libraries serving populations under 50,000. Only one staff member from each regional library system may attend in person, with additional virtual participation available.

The AAG Award for Community College Program Excellence honors outstanding non-Ph.D. granting Geography programs in the U.S. It recognizes departments that have significantly enhanced Geography's prominence and reputation. Eligible programs include those offering associate, baccalaureate, or master-level degrees. The award focuses on compelling vision, pedagogical innovation, student mentorship, and promoting diversity. Nominations are carefully evaluated to ensure fair recognition of each program's unique contributions to the discipline.

The Rosenberg Fund for Children supports the educational and emotional needs of children and youth up to age 24 who are linked to targeted progressive activists. Grants can cover tuition, counseling, and other essential services to help beneficiaries thrive despite the challenges faced by their families. The fund emphasizes direct support to programs and providers, ensuring that assistance reaches those most affected by activism-related adversities.

The Washington Square Health Foundation Grants support medical research aimed at improving community health. Grants are available to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to serving high-risk and underserved populations. Applications are accepted biannually, with deadlines on June 1 and December 1. Projects must ensure ongoing benefits after funding ends and must align with the foundation's principles for community health care.

The Gus Poesch Research Fund, established in honor of innovator Gus Poesch, offers approximately $40,000 annually to support floriculture-related projects at The Ohio State University. This fund prioritizes projects that recruit high-quality graduate students, advance research, and improve industry practices. Emphasizing relevance to current industry needs, funded projects may cover pest management, production techniques, and postharvest quality. The fund encourages collaboration and aims to enhance the profitability and sustainability of the floral industry.

The William E. and Thelma F. Housman Foundation for Medical Research Grant supports charitable organizations in Oregon focused on medical research. Grants are typically awarded for one year and can cover various types of support, including program and operating costs. The foundation aims to improve the lives of underserved communities through its funding efforts, promoting impactful medical research initiatives.

The Gus Poesch Research Fund - Student Travel Grant supports floriculture graduate students from The Ohio State University in presenting their research. Grants up to $1,500 are available for educational travel and require submission of an abstract. Successful applicants must report on their trip and acknowledge funding in all publications. This initiative enhances research dissemination and fosters professional development in the floral industry, which faces ongoing challenges in pest management and production efficiency.

The Ashtabula Foundation offers grants of $5,001 and above to support non-profit organizations serving Ashtabula County. The foundation prioritizes funding in the Human Services category to assist those in need within the community. Eligible applicants must have a 501(C)(3) designation and utilize funds exclusively for the benefit of local citizens. The foundation will consider requests based on available funding and the potential impact on recipients.

The State Energy Program Grant in North Dakota supports energy efficiency and conservation initiatives through funding and technical assistance from the U.S. Department of Energy. Applications are accepted year-round, with a priority for schools and non-profits. Grants range from $5,000 to $50,000, aimed at projects with a payback period of 10 years or less. Eligible applicants must be registered at SAM.gov and submit detailed proposals, including energy savings analyses for specific installations.

The Digital Divide Grant Program, established under California's Public Utilities Code, aims to bridge the technology gap for low-income rural and urban schools. With an annual funding of $200,000, it supports projects that enhance digital literacy, provide take-home devices, and ensure broadband access. This initiative, transitioning from a pilot to a permanent program, focuses on delivering essential resources to underserved communities, fostering equitable access to technology and educational opportunities.

The JMAC Access Grant Program, supported by the Greater Worcester Community Foundation and Barr Foundation, offers vital resources to artists and organizations for showcasing their projects at the Jean McDonough Arts Center. This initiative aims to empower BIPOC and underserved artists in Worcester by funding project development and implementation costs. Through a structured application process, selected participants can secure financial assistance to present their work, ensuring a vibrant cultural landscape in Central Massachusetts.

The Wabash Valley Community Foundation is your community portal. By channeling community expertise to you and taking your creative ideas to the community, together, we make a difference. We go beyond simply taking charitable contributions and making grants to charitable organizations. Our board and staff are responsible for having in-depth expertise and spend most of their time in the community understanding challenges, identifying opportunities and recognizing successful organizations.

Families, individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations have created more than 670 charitable funds at the Community Foundation in the past 30 years. Together, we have awarded over $30 million in grants and scholarships. Grants from the Community Foundation support every imaginable area of our communities from community centers and local arts organizations to tree-planting projects and literacy programs in schools. The Community Foundation also has special community funds that support Arts & Culture, Community Development, Education, Health & Human Services and Religion.

The Wabash Valley Community Foundation has determined broad priorities for awarding its grant funds. Each county has its own individual review process and deadlines.

Grants as Community Investments

We view grants as partnerships with your organization. Our goal is to invest in projects that generate the greatest return in positive community impact by addressing root causes and reducing long-standing challenges. As Robert D. Lupton, author of Toxic Charity, notes, meaningful impact requires missions that produce measurable results.

Organizational Health Review

All organizations, regardless of intention to submit or not submit a grant application, are required to complete the Organizational Health Review form annually. The review process provides a benchmark to assist the non-profit in becoming a stronger, healthier organization, as well as to track progress year over year. For the initial submission, organizations MUST HAVE COMPLETED the Review by March 9, 2026. The form will go live again on August 15, 2026 with a submission deadline of September 30, 2026. The form MUST be submitted both times to remain eligible for grant consideration!

Pillar 3 - Education

High Priorities

With the limited unrestricted funds available, it is necessary to determine which grants can best be awarded to have the greatest impact on the needs and growth of the Wabash Valley. The priorities are as follows:

• To focus on the prevention of problems rather than on the symptoms
• To maintain both a proactive focus and an ability to respond to creative ideas from grant seekers
• To assist grant seekers to better respond to the changing needs of the community
• To encourage programs that enhance cooperation and collaboration among institutions within our community
• To leverage funds through the use of “seed money,” “match” and “challenge” grants
• To fund projects that will make a significant improvement to our community

The Bowman-Shannon Cultural Arts Fund, managed by the Shenandoah Community Foundation, aims to promote cultural arts in Shenandoah County, Virginia. This fund supports various artistic expressions, including visual arts, music, dance, and writing, encouraging participation from all nonprofit organizations, not just those focused on arts. It empowers individuals and groups to explore their creativity through diverse mediums, enriching the community's cultural landscape.

The John Deere FIRST Robotics Competition grant aims to enhance diversity and inclusion in STEM by supporting teams in underserved communities. Teams must apply for funding before registration and meet specific eligibility criteria. This grant promotes equity in engineering and technology through mentorship and community support, aligning with John Deere's commitment to reach one million underserved youth by 2030. Priority is given to teams with confirmed John Deere mentors and those meeting diverse participation requirements.

DICK'S Sporting Goods offers a Sponsorships & Donations Program aimed at supporting youth sports leagues and organizations. They prioritize requests that promote community engagement and character development through sports. Eligible organizations must operate in areas with a DICK'S store and adhere to anti-discrimination policies. The program evaluates requests monthly, with sponsorships up to $25,000 and donations up to $250. Support may include gift certificates or coupons for teams and events, fostering an inclusive sports culture.
