Weaver Awards

West Central Initiative is partnering with the Aspen Institute’s Weave: The Social Fabric Project to recognize 20 individuals and groups in west central Minnesota and White Earth Nation who are building trust, belonging, and connection.

The Weaver Awards are designed to celebrate and support weavers—everyday neighbors who are building relationships, strengthening belonging, and weaving trust into the social fabric of their communities.

Weaving invites people to:

• Discover what they have in common
• Learn how their differences can make the community stronger
• Work side by side toward common good.
• Weaving can be formal or informal, and it is characterized by four qualities:

Local: It brings together people who share the same neighborhood, town, or region

Mutual: It celebrates everyone’s contributions and creates opportunities for everyone to both give and receive

Welcoming: It invites people to join as they are

Continuous: It builds relationships that deepen over time through ongoing engagement

What are the Weaver Awards?

The Weaver Awards are part of a constellation of activities designed to celebrate and support weavers—everyday neighbors who are building relationships, strengthening belonging, and weaving trust into the social fabric of their communities. The $2,500-$5,000 awards for neighbors working together are easy to apply for, require only simple reporting, and can go to individuals or small organizations.

Why are we launching the Weaver Awards in West Central Minnesota?

We envision a future where all people feel welcome, appreciated for their unique attributes, and connected to their neighbors, communities, and natural environments.

As communities in our region look ahead to grow both economically and socially, building trust and providing a welcoming, safe space for all is vital.

We want to lift up and celebrate our neighbors who are already doing this work–– that’s why we’re launching the West Central Minnesota Weaver Awards.

What will you get if you become a Weaver Awardee?

Each Weaver Awardee will receive a financial award of $2,500-$5,000 to celebrate and recognize their contributions to their community. In addition, each awardee will receive:

Local and National Recognition: Awardees will be recognized both locally and nationally by the Aspen Institute alongside weavers from across the country.

Learning Resources and Tools: Awardees will access learning resources and opportunities.

1:1 Support: Awardees will 1:1 support to implement their community-based activities.

Networks and Connections: Awardees will access a network of other local weavers and participate in regular meetings and networking events.

The Thriving Neighborhoods Grant, offered by the Travelers Foundation, aims to strengthen Hartford and St. Paul communities through support for organizations focused on safety, stability, and economic growth. Prioritizing equity and inclusion, funding is directed towards accessible housing, small business development, and disaster resilience initiatives. This grant is exclusively available for nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status in specific locations, fostering vibrant, culturally enriched neighborhoods and enhancing the lives of historically underrepresented groups.

The Women’s Economic Security Act (WESA) Competitive Grant, offered by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, aims to empower women by facilitating their entry into high-wage, high-demand, nontraditional occupations, particularly in skilled trades and STEM fields. Prioritizing equity, the fund aims to empower women and girls in La Crosse and surrounding counties, fostering pathways to economic independence and self-sufficiency.

The Women’s Fund of Greater La Crosse offers annual grants to support innovative projects that empower women and girls. Since 1998, over $1 million has been awarded, focusing on education, transportation, and housing to foster economic independence. Eligible organizations include 501(c)3 entities and public agencies serving designated counties. Grants range from $1,500 to $15,000. Crime victim services grants

Description of the program

Crime victim services are crucial, life-saving resources for victims and a key element of public safety. The Office of Justice Programs’ Crime Victim Services Grants Unit distributes approximately $60 million in state and federal funds annually to 170 agencies throughout Minnesota to provide direct advocacy services to victims of crime. Federal funding in the program includes Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and Family Violence Prevention and Service Act (FVPSA).

The purpose of this Request for Proposals (RFP) is to solicit applications for funding to provide direct services to crime victims in Minnesota. Funded grantees are expected to be a resource in their community and provide crime victim services as detailed in the Program Standards under which they are funded.
