Texas Foundations Fund: Disaster Recovery

From its inception, the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation has been there to support Texans' path to housing stability. When an unexpected disaster hits, it's vital that low-income Texans are included in recovery plans. 

For this reason, TSAHC will be offering grants to eligible organizations providing housing assistance activities in response to disaster. Grant awards will be made for the critical repair of single-family homes located in any one or more counties affected by weather-related natural disasters. The disaster must be declared as such on or after June 1, 2025 by a Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster declaration, a Texas Disaster Declaration, and/or a local city or county disaster declaration.

The East Texas Geological Society Scholarship, administered by the East Texas Communities Foundation, supports students pursuing degrees in Geology or Geosciences at any Texas college. Applicants must be college sophomores or higher and do not need to demonstrate financial need. Lone Star Workforce of the Future Fund

The Lone Star Workforce of the Future Fund (LSWF) is a program to increase the supply of qualified workers for entry-level to mid-level jobs in high demand occupations. In doing so, LSWF will ensure that the Texas workforce is capable of filling available and emerging jobs in this state. Grants may be awarded to public junior colleges, public technical institutes, and nonprofit organizations with an active and current TWC account number to develop and administer training programs to support this goal.

40% of project funding must come from a source other than state government. At least 50% of program participants must be placed into high demand occupations that earn a self-sufficient wage. Program participants must be placed into occupations occurring in the private sector.

Program Description

The purpose of the 2026–2027 Legal Framework grant is to support statewide access to high quality technical assistance and training related to the legal framework of special education through the provision and maintenance of an updated, web based platform. The platform is designed to assist stakeholders—including school systems, advocates, and parents—in understanding and applying state and federal special education laws and regulations.

The program promotes consistent interpretation and implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and related state requirements by providing comprehensive, accessible resources that explain the rights of students with disabilities and the obligations of school systems to provide a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE). 

Program goals include increasing educator and administrator knowledge of applicable legal requirements, strengthening local implementation practices, and providing timely, accurate, and reliable guidance to support effective special education decision making statewide.

The Roger and Barbara Powell Scholarship for Engineering supports rural Texas residents pursuing degrees in engineering or computer science. Administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation, this renewable scholarship offers up to $16,000 over four years, contingent upon meeting GPA and enrollment requirements. Eligible applicants must be high school seniors or current college students from Texas counties with populations under 60,000 and must attend a public institution in Texas to qualify for funding.

By providing funding to public school districts, this grant supports the development and expansion of computer science pathways, starting with the implementation of the AP Computer Science Principles course. This initiative not only benefits students and their families but also enhances the future economic landscape of Texas.

The 2025-2026 Texas Strategic Compensation for Districts Grant, awarded by the Texas Education Agency, aims to assist school districts in moving towards a compensation model that rewards educators based on effectiveness rather than tenure. This initiative supports local educational agencies, charter schools, and nonprofit organizations in fostering a more effective educational environment, ultimately enhancing the quality of teaching and administration across Texas.

The Marvin R. and Pearl E. Patterson Family Fund Scholarship, offered by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, supports students aspiring to study graphic or fine arts, as well as those interested in environmental sciences. Open to high school graduates from the Tri-Cities area, this scholarship considers leadership, community involvement, and academic achievements, although financial need is not a requirement. Applicants must provide transcripts and relevant documents to qualify for this opportunity.

The R.D. Beirne Trust Grant aims to support quality human services for underserved populations in Texas, focusing on the physically incapacitated, underprivileged, and elderly. Organizations with annual budgets under $20 million are eligible to apply for various types of funding. Special consideration is given to charities serving the blind, elderly, and orphans in Grayson County. This grant fosters impactful community programs, enhancing the quality of life for those in need.

The Sumners Foundation Grant aims to engage and educate the public about self-government through various programs, including civic education, democracy reform, and teacher training. Grants are available to qualified 501(c)(3) organizations primarily in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, supporting activities that foster civic engagement and understanding of democratic principles. The Foundation emphasizes direct involvement in the political process and does not fund political activities or provide individual grants.

The Monarch Garden Grants program, initiated by the Native Plant Society of Texas, aims to support the creation of Monarch habitats across Texas by providing small grants to schools and nature centers. These grants focus on developing demonstration gardens and Waystations using native plants essential for Monarch conservation. ESC Texas Instructional Leadership (TIL) Mentorship Grant

Program Description

The purpose of this grant is to provide for ESC-to-ESC mentorship with regards to ESCs’ efforts to implement Texas Instructional Leadership (TIL) training in their regions for the benefit of campuses and districts participating in school improvement activities. Participating ESC will provide year-long guidance, training, and coaching to other ESCs to support building, developing, and deploying their TIL teams.
