Washington County Opportunity Fund

The Washington County Opportunity Fund is an unrestricted community grant fund. The Fund was created by the generosity of individuals who have contributed money to the Foundation for charitable use to address the present and future needs of Washington County.

From this endowed fund, the Foundation Board annually determines and designates the amount of available funding in the form of community grants.

The Foundation’s Washington County Opportunity Fund accepts applications once a year in the spring. Applications received outside of the grant cycle are not accepted.

The applications are open to a variety of issues and target populations. However, successful applications are those that will help fulfill the Foundation’s mission to improve the quality of life for Washington County.

All non-profit organizations are encouraged to apply as well as groups and individuals working on a charitable community project. For-profit organizations will not be considered unless the request is for a charitable project. Grants will be limited to projects within Washington County.

What type of support is funded?

• Projects or programs that serve the community and/or advance the mission of the organization
• Seed money to establish or initiate a new project, program, or organization, including operating expenses
• Capacity building or activities that strengthen an organization to increase its ability to fulfill its mission, including technology & equipment, professional development & training, additional staff to implement a new program, etc.
• Capital improvements including new construction or renovation of a facility
• Endowment funds to provide permanent and long-term support for an organization or program

Interlibrary Cooperation Grant

Each year, the Alaska State Library awards Interlibrary Cooperation (ILC) Grants funds for proposals with a direct impact on library users. Libraries of all types (academic, public, school, and special) are encouraged to submit proposals. 

Interlibrary Cooperation Grants are competitive and project-oriented. A grant review committee will evaluate each proposal and score it according to a rubric. Proposals with significant statewide impact on the sharing of resources; cooperative services with another library; innovative programs for the delivery of library services; or training or other programs that strengthen library services, will be more competitive.

Grantees must demonstrate financial commitment to providing ongoing library services once the project is finished. ILC grants cannot be written to support ongoing operational costs, replace primary funding sources, or fund activities that are the primary responsibility of the applicant library

The Winston-Salem Foundation, established in 1919, offers Animal Welfare Grants to support organizations dedicated to animal welfare in Forsyth County, North Carolina. With grants up to $25,000, the foundation aims to enhance the quality of life for animals and the community. As the first foundation of its kind in North Carolina, it has a rich history of collaboration to improve local welfare initiatives. Innovation for Affordable Building Electrification (PON 6162)

Description

This funding targets the commercialization of affordable innovative solutions that can rapidly scale to enable electrification, reduce peak loads, and improve efficiency of the building stock in New York. NYSERDA seeks projects at committed New York State site(s) that address one of the following Innovation Topic Areas:

• Energy Efficiency
• Electrification
• Load Management

NYSERDA has no predefined funding amount or number of awards based on topic area. Eligible solutions must show strong potential to advance one or more aspects of NYSERDA’s core mission in the buildings sector in New York State through reducing GHG emissions, improving energy efficiency, increasing affordability, and/or resiliency in existing buildings in the residential, multifamily, and small/medium commercial market.

The Episcopal Health Foundation of Dallas provides annual grants to support parishes, schools, and non-profit organizations within the Diocese of Dallas. Focus areas include food insecurity, homelessness, poverty alleviation, and health services. Eligible organizations must operate within the diocese's geographic boundaries and align with its Christian mission. Grants aim to strengthen communities through innovative programs that address basic human needs and improve lives. Applications must meet specific criteria and deadlines to be considered.

The Recreation Passport Grants (MI) program provides financial support for local units to develop and renovate public recreation facilities. The initiative focuses on upgrading older facilities that are no longer functional, requiring a minimum of 25% matching funds from applicants. Grants range from $7,500 to $150,000, facilitating significant enhancements to community recreation options.

Renewable Energy-Village Energy Efficiency Program (RE-VEEP)

The Renewable Energy-Village Energy Efficiency Program (RE-VEEP) expands on the Alaska Energy Authority’s (AEA) Village Energy Efficiency Program (VEEP), which was established to reduce per capita consumption through energy efficiency. RE-VEEP will award grants to eligible entities within Alaska to finance building-scale renewable energy, energy efficiency, and conservation projects in public buildings and facilities located in rural Alaska. Through these types of projects, communities can reduce their energy consumption and costs.

The Grant for Technology Opportunities Program (GTOP) aims to enhance digital equity by providing matching funds to organizations in Austin. This initiative focuses on increasing access to technology, improving digital skills, and ensuring that all citizens can participate fully in the digital age. Eligible applicants include incorporated, tax-exempt organizations, and projects must align with GTOP goals. With a mission to foster innovation, this grant supports initiatives that bridge the digital divide in the community.

The Community Health Matching Grant Program, led by the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation, aims to support nonprofit organizations in Michigan. This initiative encourages the development of community-inspired and evidence-based programs to address local health needs, ultimately enhancing health outcomes for the community. Eligible organizations must meet specific criteria regarding their budget and patient demographics to qualify for matching funds, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to underserved populations.

Nature's Path's Gardens for Good program empowers communities by funding organic gardens that address food insecurity. Since 2010, it has donated $930,000 CAD to support 120 gardens. In 2023, grants of $6,500 each will be awarded to 20 gardens across the U.S. and Canada. Eligible applicants must be registered non-profits with urban organic agriculture projects that serve low-income communities, promoting sustainable practices and inclusivity.

The Lowcountry Artistic Vitality Grant, offered by the Gaylord & Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, aims to support a diverse range of arts organizations within the Lowcountry. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) public charities that demonstrate artistic vitality and have completed at least one full fiscal year of operations. Grants range from $5,000 to $25,000, emphasizing unrestricted general operations funding that allows organizations to address their most pressing needs.

The Green Chemistry Student Chapter Award recognizes ACS student chapters for their commitment to green chemistry initiatives. This award highlights the importance of green chemistry in education, encouraging students to engage in activities that promote sustainability. Eligible chapters must submit detailed summaries of at least three green chemistry projects, demonstrating their understanding of the principles and practices that contribute to a more sustainable future.

The Native Plant and Wildflower Education Grant offers up to $500 for educational programs focused on native plants and wildflowers. State Garden Clubs and similar organizations can co-sponsor symposia aimed at increasing awareness and knowledge about native flora, including endangered species and habitat management. Programs should be scheduled to coincide with wildflower blooming periods, promoting public planting initiatives and the design of native gardens.

The Natural Disaster USA Fund, established by National Garden Clubs (NGC) in 1997, supports local and state garden clubs in restoring areas affected by natural disasters. Grants up to $5,000 are available for projects that include site location, disaster nature, restoration plans, and cost estimates. Eligible applicants must be sponsored by State Garden Clubs or Member Clubs and can apply for funds to enhance damaged public spaces, including gardens and parks.

The George Waters Grant Program, established by the Minnesota Section PGA, aims to support PGA Professionals and related golf programs focusing on player development, especially for juniors and athletes with disabilities. This initiative honors George Waters, a dedicated PGA member, and helps fulfill his vision of growing the game. Grants cover teaching costs, infrastructure, and special assistance, encouraging wider participation in golf across Minnesota and North Dakota.

The smART Ventures grant is a Seattle-based program offering flexible funding between $500 and $1,500 for innovative arts and culture projects. It aims to support underserved communities, encourage public engagement, and foster creativity. Applications are reviewed monthly with no set deadline. Eligible applicants include individuals, groups, and organizations based in Seattle, focusing on projects that create community impact and expand access to cultural opportunities. Priority is given to those representing underserved populations.

The Chicago Artistic Vitality Grant supports over 175 small, professional arts organizations across various disciplines. It provides essential unrestricted operational funding that allows these organizations to thrive while encouraging artistic innovation. Grantees must be 501(c)(3) public charities or have fiscal sponsors, with expenses under $1 million per year. The grant aims to foster a vibrant arts ecosystem in Chicago, ensuring diverse artistic expressions in every neighborhood, and promotes the sustainability of emerging talent.

The Educationally Related Worcester Nonprofit Organizations Grant, established by the George I. Alden Trust, focuses on capital needs for educational initiatives in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Trustees prioritize grants that enhance community support and education, providing funding primarily for capital projects. Organizations must adhere to specific eligibility criteria and grant cycles to ensure effective distribution of resources. This grant aims to foster significant educational advancements while honoring George Alden's commitment to community welfare.

The Howard E. Stark Charitable Foundation focuses on granting funds to small, dedicated animal welfare organizations in the Northeast US. Established in 2007, the foundation supports various initiatives, including humane societies, rescue organizations, and wildlife rehabilitation services. With a commitment to making a difference, they aim to empower groups with limited assets and fundraising capabilities to enhance animal welfare through essential services and educational programs.

About the Fund

The Community Catalyst Grant Program is an evolution of the Arts Access Grants. The Community Catalyst Grant Program has the goal of uplifting historically under-resourced populations in Santa Clara County through community-driven, impactful artistic projects. Rather than a change, this is an evolution of the program intended to accomplish three things:

Lower the Barrier to Entry: The Community Catalyst Grant opens up funding to individual artists, informal collectives, and unincorporated groups who were previously ineligible

Narrow the Focus to Community Ownership: The review process places its highest emphasis (40%) on community leadership, co-creation, and lived experience rather than institutional longevity or traditional "artistic excellence".

Simplify the Application and the Reporting: The new program significantly reduces administrative burden by streamlining application materials and offering multi-format final reporting options.

The focus of this program are projects that utilize arts and culture as a catalyst for community dialogue, healing, collective action, and/or capacity building in under-resourced communities. This grant is funded by The County of Santa Clara and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

Grant Amount:

• $5,000 - $20,000 (One-time only, renewable up to one time)

The ASA Annual Meeting Travel Fund Awards support sociologists facing financial barriers in attending the Annual Meeting. Open to both U.S. and international scholars, the fund offers up to 25 awards of $500 each, along with a waiver of registration fees. Eligible applicants must be listed in the program and not registered prior to award decisions. This initiative aims to foster inclusivity and advance the field of sociology by ensuring wider participation.

Renewable Energy Fund

The Rhode Island Commerce Renewable Energy Fund (REF) supports the growth of renewable energy across Rhode Island, helping businesses and communities access cost-effective, sustainable energy solutions.

REF provides renewable energy grants for projects that generate cleaner electricity while supporting job growth in the green technology and energy sectors. Funded through the system benefit charge on electric bills and alternative compliance payments from electricity providers, REF invests in Small Scale solar, Commercial Scale, and Community Renewable energy projects throughout Rhode Island.

The Rhode Island Commerce Corporation (RI Commerce) and the Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources (OER) seeks to fund solar PV on Brownfield locations. All projects must be in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for the Renewable Energy Fund Development Program.

The PLTW Computer Science grant supports public and charter schools in Georgia to implement PLTW Computer Science programs. Schools in designated counties can apply for a total of $20,000, distributed over two years, to fund essential course materials and training. Grantees must offer at least two different courses within the 2026-2028 academic years, enhancing education in technology and programming for students. This initiative aims to foster STEM learning and prepare students for future careers.

The Roy A. Hunt Foundation offers Community Development Initiative Grants aimed at enhancing the quality of life in Pittsburgh and Boston. With a focus on economic development, neighborhood revitalization, and partnerships, these grants support programs that address community needs through innovative solutions. Grants typically range from $15,000 to $250,000, promoting best practices and collaboration. The foundation prioritizes proposals that align with regional goals and have the potential for replicability, especially in underserved areas.

The Gilbert Memorial Fund Grant supports organizations conducting innovative medical research.
