Thomas R. Shaw Scholarship Fund

It is with great pride and a deep sense of humility that the Shaw family presents this scholarship in honor of Thomas R. Shaw. Thomas R. Shaw was a lifelong Battle Creek resident and a third generation funeral director. He was born April 2, 1935 in Battle Creek and remained dedicated to his community his entire life. He was an active civic and professional leader, a devoted family man and supporter of education and youth. He attended the University of Michigan and graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mortuary Science. This scholarship aims to support greater Battle Creek and Bellevue area student obtain higher education at Wayne State University, Central Michigan University, or the University of Michigan. The Senior Citizens Housing of Ann Arbor (SCHAA) Grant Program, established by the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, aims to support organizations and programs that assist older adults and their caregivers. For 2025, the focus will be on technology and transportation initiatives within Washtenaw County. This program reflects the foundation's commitment to community empowerment, equity, and collaboration, ensuring that all residents have access to vital resources and support.

The Glacier Hills Legacy Fund Golden Opportunities grant program, managed by the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, aims to enhance the well-being of vulnerable older adults in Washtenaw County. By addressing pressing issues such as housing stability, food security, healthcare access, and transportation, the program seeks to reduce inequities faced by this demographic. Funding will support innovative solutions and partnerships to ensure older adults can thrive in their communities.

The Carl Gans Travelling Fellowship, established by the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles (SSAR), supports graduate students and postdoctoral researchers attending herpetological meetings. In 2026, this fellowship will cover travel expenses for selected fellows, prioritizing those in greatest need and from underrepresented groups. Awards will be available for up to 24 recipients, with funding varying based on geographic location, aiming to enhance global participation in herpetology research.

Michigan Afterschool Partnership 

The Michigan Afterschool Partnership (MASP) is the statewide voice and coordinating hub for out-of-school time programs that support Michigan’s young people, families, and communities. MASP brings together education leaders, youth-serving organizations, businesses, philanthropy, and policymakers to strengthen and expand high-quality afterschool and summer learning opportunities across the state. By aligning local efforts with statewide strategy, sharing best practices, and elevating data-driven insights, MASP helps ensure out-of-school time programs are effective, sustainable, and responsive to community needs—supporting youth success, working families, and Michigan’s future workforce.

With Youth For Youth (WYFY) Grant Opportunity for Southeast Michigan

Grant Opportunity & Funding Priorities

Beginning in 2026, the Southeast Michigan WYFY Advisory Council will distribute just over $2 million in grants to support out-of-school time and youth sports programs that incorporate youth voice, equitable access, and systems-level improvements. Funding decisions will be made by the Southeast Michigan Advisory Council using a structured review process designed by young people.

To meaningfully increase youth voice across funded programs, proposals should demonstrate how youth input and leadership are embedded in program structure, culture and decision-making. Priority will be given to programs that demonstrate the following funding priorities:

• Equity ensures all youth are centered, youth’s specific identities are considered and there is an unbiased distribution of resources for youth in programming.
• Safety as emotional, relational, in programming, and a created space of belonging.
• Tangible Resources, ensure tangible supports that remove barriers to participation, such as transportation, food, youth stipends, and materials.
• The need for youth to experience both Learning and Enjoyment in the program.
• Preparation for a future where young people can thrive.
• The Role Adults Play by being adult allies who listen, support, and share power with young people.
• Youth Voice & Leadership as a non-negotiable experience for all young people in the program.

What is Out-of-School Time?

For the purposes of this application, out-of-school time (OST) is defined as any youth-serving program that supports young people outside the traditional school day (e.g., before and after school and/or during summer). Examples are as follows, but not limited to:

• Youth Sports
• Arts, Culture, and Enrichment
• Leadership Development and Civic Engagement
• Youth Workforce and Career Readiness
• Library and Recreation Program
• Prevention and Restorative Initiatives

We believe these programs operate in a wide range of settings, including community-based 501(c)(3) organizations, schools, early childhood centers, and faith-based programs, collectively forming a critical part of Michigan’s youth-serving infrastructure. 

Programs must:

• Serve youth ages 5–18
• Operate in Southeast Michigan (Livingston, Wayne, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne)
• Provide programming outside the traditional school day

The Jean Griswold Foundation

The Jean Griswold Foundation (JGF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Caregivers through educational opportunities and scholarships. 

Our Mission

The mission of the Jean Griswold Foundation is to support Caregivers by providing educational scholarships* to enable them to further their training, enhance their careers, and better assist the clients they serve.

By offering educational scholarships*, our Foundation will not only make a positive impact on the Caregivers themselves, but also the clients they assist and the home healthcare agencies where they are employed, as well as help advance the overarching home-care industry.

Scholarships will be paid directly to the federally accredited educational institutions of the winning Scholars’ choosing.

Empowering Caregivers Through Education

The Jean Griswold Foundation Scholarship Program awards scholarships to deserving Caregivers who wish to further their education in a care-related field. Applicants do not have to be associated with Griswold in any way, and the funds will be paid directly to the institution where the caregiver will be receiving education.

Teen Engagement Fund - Winter Cycle 

The Jewish Teen Engagement Fund grants are intended to encourage three or more organizations or individuals to work collaboratively on innovative initiatives to engage community teens and strengthen their connection to their Judaism and peer community.

• Requests of up to $1,500 will be considered. 

The Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles (SSAR) offers the Student Travel Award to support students attending the SSAR meeting. Ten awards of $500 each are available to eligible students who are SSAR members, first authors of presentations, and have not previously received the award. Applicants must submit a letter from their advisor and an abstract. Winners are randomly selected and must volunteer during the event.

The Flourish Fund Grant, offered by CultureSource, supports innovative and experimental artist-led projects in Southeast Michigan. With annual funding of six $10,000 grants, the program encourages public engagement and collaboration among independent artists. Eligible projects should have a strong visual arts foundation and involve a public component, while ineligible projects include those led by students or existing incorporated entities. This initiative aims to foster creativity and cultural development in the region.

The GM Corporate Giving Grants support U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations focused on STEM education and transportation initiatives. Applications are accepted from January to September, with a requirement to submit requests at least three months before the program’s start date. GM emphasizes charitable contributions in the communities where it operates, ensuring that organizations align with its values. The grant amount is not limited and is assessed based on the proposed program's merit and needs.

The Washtenaw Artist Grants program, in partnership with the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, promotes racial equity and supports local artists in Washtenaw County. It funds community-based projects that enrich the artistic landscape and engage diverse audiences. Eligible projects include exhibitions, performances, and arts education, focusing on BIPOC communities. Grants can cover artist fees, materials, and other project costs, fostering inclusive cultural experiences for residents.

The Andersons Fund Supporting Organization aims to enhance the quality of life for individuals and families in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, particularly in the greater Toledo area. It supports nonprofit organizations with grants for programs in education, social services, mental health, urban affairs, natural resources, and the arts. The Fund prioritizes capital projects and evaluates the financial stability and operational issues of requesting organizations.

The Mud Hens-Walleye Transportation Fund supports schools and nonprofit organizations in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan by providing transportation grants for attending Toledo Mud Hens baseball and Toledo Walleye hockey games. With awards up to $1,000, the fund aims to eliminate financial barriers for educational field trips to these events. Eligible applicants must demonstrate financial need and adhere to specific guidelines regarding the use of funds for transportation services.

The AAPS Education Fund, managed by the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, aims to enhance the educational experience for students in Ann Arbor Public Schools. With a total of $15,400 available in competitive grants, individual requests can reach up to $2,000. Projects must focus on key areas including literacy, science, the arts, mental health, and diversity. Priority is given to initiatives that benefit the entire school or involve collaboration with nonprofit partners.

Greater Milan Area Community Foundation

The Greater Milan Area Community Foundation (GMACF) was born in 2005 from a powerful vision shared by three dedicated residents – Isabelle Schultz, Donald Harkness, and Millard Phillips. Their mission: To improve the cultural, economic, educational and environmental quality of life in the Milan, Michigan area. 

As a geographic affiliate of the Community Foundation of Monroe County, GMACF combines local leadership with proven charitable infrastructure, ensuring Milan-area residents have direct access to grants, scholarships, and funding opportunities focused exclusively on this community’s unique needs and aspirations.

Greater Milan Area Community Foundation Grants

The Greater Milan Area Community Foundation supports projects that strengthen the cultural, economic, educational, and environmental quality of life in the Milan area. Grants are available for initiatives that respond to local needs, build community connections, and benefit residents of the Greater Milan Area.

The Toledo Walleye Transportation Fund offers grants to accredited schools and nonprofit organizations in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, facilitating transportation to Toledo Mud Hens baseball or Walleye hockey games. Aiming to eliminate financial barriers, the fund provides awards up to $1,000 for eligible applicants. Schools and nonprofits can receive one transportation award for each game annually, promoting enriching experiences for students and communities.

The James A. & Faith Knight Foundation Grant supports nonprofit organizations in Jackson and Washtenaw Counties, Michigan. The foundation values sound financial management, governance practices, and a clear mission, with a focus on gender, diversity, and outcomes. Key funding priorities include general operating support, environmental sustainability, and initiatives benefiting women and girls. Organizations are expected to demonstrate their commitment to these values during the application process, which may include site visits.

Generally the Community Foundation's scholarships are awarded to applicants who have high financial need. Applicants with household income exceeding $100,000 are less likely to be awarded, but applying will allow you to be considered for targeted scholarships.

Michael J. Wolf Scholarship

Open to high school seniors graduating from a high school in the City of Grand Rapids and residents of the City of Grand Rapids, attending University of Michigan full time, with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

The Burke/Tharp Legacy Scholarship, managed by the Brown County Community Foundation, provides crucial tuition assistance to students accepted at Purdue, Ball State, or Michigan University. Since its inception, the foundation has focused on educational support, offering scholarships primarily to Brown County High School graduates. The scholarship aims to empower female students, minorities, and those facing financial hardships, ensuring they have access to higher education opportunities and can fulfill their academic ambitions.
