Search Through Preservation Grants in West Virginia

The Semnani Family Foundation, established in 1993, is dedicated to supporting marginalized communities worldwide through health, education, and disaster relief initiatives. Founded by Khosrow and Ghazaleh Semnani, it began by funding an orphanage in Romania. The foundation also operates locally, providing free healthcare through the Maliheh Free Clinic in Utah. Frontier Statehood Preservation Fund

In honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia announces $500,000 in special grant funding through the Frontier to Statehood Preservation Fund. This historic preservation grant program is dedicated to the rehabilitation and adaptive or continued use of certified historic buildings constructed as of 1871 – when, in a case called Virginia v. West Virginia (1871), the U.S. Supreme Court recognized the legitimacy of the creation of the state of West Virginia in 1863.

Grant funds will support up to ten grant awards for the preservation and restoration of buildings that tell the story of colonial settlement in the Appalachian Mountains, the American Revolution, and the road to statehood, with a focus on creating, advancing, and/or sustaining service/amenity providers and cultural heritage tourism destinations in West Virginia. All properties must be individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places or included as a contributing structure in a National Register Historic District. Grant funding is made possible through the Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grant via the National Park Service, United States Department of the Interior.

This is a competitive grant program open to members of the public.

The Harry E. & Olive T. Barth Charitable Trust Grant Program, managed by Wesbanco Bank, offers funding to non-profit organizations in West Virginia, particularly those from Sistersville and Tyler County. The fund focuses on areas such as animal welfare, nature conservancy, and the preservation of local historical sites, supporting activities that are charitable, religious, scientific, literary, or educational.

The PACF Community Action Grants support nonprofits in West Virginia through a competitive grant process twice a year. Grants up to $20,000 are available for diverse fields such as Arts, Education, and Community Development. Organizations must be 501(c)(3) entities serving the Foundation's 11-county area. Projects addressing community needs and enhancing organizational capacity are prioritized, especially in areas with limited support options. Interested applicants should ensure project eligibility before applying.

The Pinnacle Community Benefit Fund Grant aims to support community-oriented projects around the Pinnacle Wind Farm in Mineral County, West Virginia. With a commitment of $50,000 upon commercial operation and ongoing funding, the grant empowers local citizens through a volunteer Allocation Committee. This approach ensures that funds are allocated effectively to enhance local initiatives, preserving the community's heritage and promoting sustainable development in Keyser, Elk Garden, and New Creek.

The Dudley T. Dougherty Foundation Grant supports nonprofit charitable organizations recognized under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Revenue Code. Established in 2002, the foundation aims to empower groups committed to positive change, fostering respect for life and the environment. Their vision emphasizes collaboration for a better future, encouraging applicants to embody these values in their initiatives. With a focus on impactful projects, this grant is an opportunity for organizations striving to make a critical difference in our world.

The TJX Foundation Grants support nonprofit organizations located within 15 miles of a TJX store that align with their community mission. Eligible areas include basic needs, education for at-risk youth, workforce training, and safety from domestic violence. Organizations must be a registered 501(c)(3) for at least 12 months and have a nondiscrimination policy. Applications are invited through a Letter of Inquiry, with funding decisions based on community impact.

The Preservation Alliance of West Virginia's Saving Historic Places Grant Program aims to fund the renovation and preservation of historic school buildings in rural communities facing economic challenges. With $665,000 available for grants ranging from $50,000 to $300,000, the program seeks to combat blight and encourage community engagement in preserving significant local landmarks. The Jefferson County Helen Parker Willard Fund offers grants for the maintenance and restoration of historic cemeteries in Jefferson County, West Virginia. The True Inspiration Awards, established by Chick-fil-A in 2015, recognizes nonprofit organizations that significantly impact their communities. In 2025, the program will distribute $6 million in grants, ranging from $30,000 to $350,000, to sixteen selected organizations. Categories include Caring for People, Caring through Food, Community, and Caring for our Planet, with a focus on educational initiatives, food security, housing services, and environmental stewardship, honoring the legacy of founder S. Truett Cathy.
