Artist Support Grants

What are Artist Support Grants?

Artist Support Grants is a program funded by the N.C. Arts Council to provide the opportunity for regional consortia of local arts councils to award project grants to artists in their regions.

Artist fees are also allowable expenses under the new program. Grant amounts vary from region to region. Statewide, most grants are between $500 and $2,000.

Applicants must demonstrate community partnership, address specific needs, and provide measurable impact metrics. With a focus on financial feasibility and meaningful outcomes, this initiative ensures that underrepresented urban and rural communities gain access to essential digital resources, fostering long-term improvement in their lives.

The Emergency and Disaster Response Fund (EDRF) addresses urgent needs in an 18-county area, providing critical support since Hurricane Helene. Over $38 million has been allocated to organizations for emergency relief and recovery services. As the region transitions to long-term recovery, CFWNC reviews grant requests based on community need and available funds, prioritizing areas most affected by the disaster. Eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, faith-based groups, and public agencies.

The Housing for Everyone Grant Competition, part of the 2026 Initiative, aims to support eviction prevention in low-to moderate-income communities. By enhancing employee skills, the grant aims to strengthen nonprofits and their impact in the community, ensuring they provide valuable services effectively.

Toby L. Mapes: Fire Protection Technology Scholarship

This scholarship is to provide financial assistance for a student pursuing a higher education in a Fire Protection Technology degree at an accredited institution, with preference given to students attending Blue Ridge Community College or AB Technical College in a fire protection technology field. A second preference is given to students pursuing nursing. 

The Glass Foundation Grant supports initiatives that enhance the quality of life in Western North Carolina. Established in 2000, the foundation provides funding for capital campaigns, construction, and program supplies, focusing on environmental education and youth development. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) organizations operating in specified WNC counties. The foundation prioritizes projects that foster educational and cultural opportunities while preserving natural resources, aiming to create a thriving community.

Asheville 501(c)(3) nonprofits advancing economic mobility or affordable housing can access funding through Bank of America Charitable Foundation, plus a two-year leadership development program. Eligible organizations must be based in Buncombe County, financially sound, have a three-year impact plan, and commit their CEO and an emerging leader to participate in the training.

The Jean Griswold Foundation

The Jean Griswold Foundation (JGF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Caregivers through educational opportunities and scholarships. 

Our Mission

The mission of the Jean Griswold Foundation is to support Caregivers by providing educational scholarships* to enable them to further their training, enhance their careers, and better assist the clients they serve.

By offering educational scholarships*, our Foundation will not only make a positive impact on the Caregivers themselves, but also the clients they assist and the home healthcare agencies where they are employed, as well as help advance the overarching home-care industry.

Scholarships will be paid directly to the federally accredited educational institutions of the winning Scholars’ choosing.

Empowering Caregivers Through Education

The Jean Griswold Foundation Scholarship Program awards scholarships to deserving Caregivers who wish to further their education in a care-related field. Applicants do not have to be associated with Griswold in any way, and the funds will be paid directly to the institution where the caregiver will be receiving education.

Stronger Organizations Grants

Supporting Organizational Operations, Infrastructure and Stability.

This grant opportunity offers flexible support for strategically aligned organizations that play a meaningful role in the region’s ecosystem through work in housing, education, economic opportunity, and health & wellness; and that are positioned to sustain and grow their impact over time. Organizations determine how best to use the funds and grant reporting is simplified. Most often, these grants are in the form of general operating support.

Grants typically range from $50,000 to $350,000 per year for up to two years. For two-year grants, the total award may range up to a maximum of $700,000.

Nonprofit health care, education, and social service organizations serving economically poor women, children, and older adults in Asheville, North Carolina can seek funding for operating, program, or project expenses. Sisters of Mercy prioritizes collaborative, multicultural, evidence-based efforts that reach unserved or underserved populations in the Charlotte-Metrolina and Western North Carolina regions.

The TD Bank Community Sponsorships Program, supported by the TD Charitable Foundation, provides funding for events and activities that positively impact communities from Maine to Florida. The Nathaniel Ellis Cannady, Jr. Scholarship offers financial assistance to deserving students from Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, Madison, McDowell, Rutherford, and Yancey counties pursuing careers in engineering or construction. Established by local resident Nathaniel Ellis Cannady, Jr., this renewable scholarship aims to support public high school seniors attending college full-time, fostering the next generation of professionals in these vital industries.

The Rotary Club of Asheville Harry R. Morrill Scholarship supports high school seniors in Buncombe County pursuing higher education. Established by the Rotary Club, it aims to assist meritorious students demonstrating academic excellence, leadership, and community involvement. Eligible candidates include those from local public, private, and homeschool settings. The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, a nonprofit organization, manages this scholarship to enhance educational opportunities and foster a commitment to learning among youth in the region.

The S. Hayes Robinson Memorial Dance Scholarship honors the memory of Hayes Robinson, a talented dancer and educator from Asheville. Established by his family and friends, it provides financial support for graduating seniors in Buncombe County pursuing higher education in performance dance. Hayes, who began dancing at age 19, taught for 23 years and was known for his passion and dedication to the art. This scholarship aims to inspire young dancers to follow their dreams.

Clarke Memorial Scholarship Programs, established by friends to honor Harry Clarke's commitment to education, offers renewable scholarships for graduating seniors from public high schools in 29 westernmost counties of North Carolina. The Harry W. Clarke Award honors the legacy of Harry Wilson Clarke, a pivotal figure in educational advancement in Western North Carolina. Established in 1987, this scholarship supports graduating seniors from 29 counties, including the Qualla Boundary, who aspire to attend a four-year college in North Carolina. With a commitment to fostering local talent, the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina has awarded over $456 million in scholarships, reflecting its dedication to educational opportunities in the region.

501(c)(3) nonprofits focused on environmental conservation in western North Carolina, including Asheville, can apply for funding to protect lands, parks, forests, and waters. Harold T Southern Family Foundation supports organizations primarily located in counties such as Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, and surrounding areas to promote healthier lifestyles for future generations.
