Green Partners Grant

Engage, educate, act and collaborate for the environment

Hennepin County provides funding and support to organizations to actively educate, engage and motivate residents to become environmental stewards and make positive behavior changes.

Through the Green Partners program, Hennepin County contracts with organizations to implement projects that engage youth and adults in becoming environmental stewards. Projects engage youth in learning about environmental topics and taking leadership on environmental issues as they get older. Green Partners also supports projects to engage our adult residents in helping the county reach it’s zero waste and climate goals by preventing waste, composting organic waste, reducing, reusing, recycling, and repairing and caring for our natural resources by improving water quality, caring for trees, and creating habitat to protect birds, bats, and pollinators.

Types of Grants

Hennepin County has three Green Partners programs.

• Environmental Action Program
• Youth Environmental Leadership Program
• Youth Environmental Education Program

Youth Environmental Education Grants

Youth environmental education projects engage youth in elementary and middle school in environmental education and outdoor nature experiences. Project activities engage youth in learning about the environment to develop their awareness and increase their knowledge of environmental issues and solutions. Strong projects are inquiry driven, incorporate hands-on and experiential environmental learning, provide outdoor nature experiences, and promote environmental stewardship. Preferred projects incorporate county identified project ideas.

Levels of Funding

• If you have received a Green Partners award before, you can apply for up to $25,000 for a one-year project or, if you meet the criteria, up to $50,000 for a two-year project.
• If you have never received a Green Partners award before, you can apply for up to $12,000 for a one-year project. 

The ASTR Targeted Research Area Grant supports projects by scholars focusing on under-represented areas in theatre, dance, and performance studies. This includes research on Asian, African, Latin American, and Middle Eastern disciplines, as well as pre-1900 studies and essential translations. The grant, offering up to $3000, encourages recipients to publish their findings and collaborate with Theatre Survey editors. Eligibility extends to scholars with terminal degrees and graduate students, provided they are ASTR members.

The Desalination and Water Purification Research Program, led by the Bureau of Reclamation, aims to enhance water supply through innovative research in water treatment technologies. This initiative seeks proposals for laboratory and pilot-scale projects that demonstrate significant benefits and commercialization pathways. By addressing cost and energy barriers, the program aligns with federal priorities to improve resource management and support the development of sustainable water solutions for the American public.

The Local Arts Support Grant, funded by the New York State Council on the Arts, empowers Brooklyn's artists and arts organizations by providing funding for community engagement projects. Designed for nonprofit organizations and artist-nonprofit partnerships, it supports diverse artistic disciplines and does not require matching funds. In 2025, it distributed $265,000 to 63 projects, enhancing local cultural initiatives through performances, exhibitions, and workshops that foster community involvement and enrich the arts landscape.

The Arts in Rural Places Grant, offered by South Arts, aims to enhance access to the arts in rural and isolated communities across nine southern states. Grants of up to $3,000 support public activities featuring Southern artists, requiring a dollar-for-dollar cash match. Eligible organizations must host at least two public events and engage a professional artist, promoting cultural engagement and artistic expression within these communities.

Evolve Houston’s eMobility Grants offer vital funding to community leaders and organizations, enabling them to launch innovative projects that enhance access to clean transportation in underserved neighborhoods. With grants up to $15,000, these initiatives focus on electric mobility solutions, including infrastructure development, education, and workforce training. Since 2022, Evolve Houston has supported over 50 community-led projects, continuing its mission to create a cleaner, more connected Houston through sustainable mobility options.

The Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Local Assistance and Federal Recreation Grants, managed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, aim to enhance outdoor recreation opportunities across the state. These grants support various programs, including local parks development, acquisition of development rights, and urban green spaces. They also encompass federal initiatives such as the Land and Water Conservation Fund and Recreational Trails Program. This funding fosters community engagement and promotes sustainable recreational access.

The Research Foundation is launching community grants to enhance health access and equity in Kansas City, particularly for Jackson County residents. Eligible nonprofit organizations can receive support for programs that align with the foundation's priorities, including a 10% allowance for indirect costs. The focus is on health-centric missions, ensuring the funding promotes care access and workforce retention in the healthcare sector, while adhering to the foundation's guidelines.

The Healthy American Forests Initiative, led by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), aims to enhance forest health and resilience through targeted funding. This initiative anticipates awarding 10-15 grants ranging from $250,000 to $2 million, supporting projects up to 2 years in duration. A 20% non-federal match is required, and interested applicants are encouraged to collaborate with NFWF and Native Americans in Philanthropy for potential match funding.

This grant opportunity focuses on implementing Gatekeeper Training in Illinois' correctional facilities to address suicide prevention in communities that are disproportionately affected by mental health issues. The initiative aims to enhance public health strategies aligned with the Illinois Suicide Prevention Strategic Plan 2020. By training gatekeepers, the program seeks to mitigate suicide risks and improve outcomes in vulnerable populations, contributing to a comprehensive approach to mental health support.

The Health Care Foundation of the Oranges (HCFO) addresses critical public health challenges in East Orange, Orange, Irvington, and West Newark. By supporting local nonprofits focused on mental health, food security, and health education, HCFO aims to promote wellness and eliminate barriers to healthy living for vulnerable communities, including the elderly and those in financial distress. Their commitment ensures that everyone has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their circumstances.

The Valley Water Standard Grants - Stewardship Grants program provides $1.87 million in funding for projects aimed at enhancing safe, clean drinking water, water conservation, and environmental stewardship in Santa Clara County. This initiative supports diverse community efforts including pollution cleanups, habitat restoration, and educational programs, requiring a 15% matching contribution. Open to public agencies and nonprofit organizations, it empowers local communities to tackle pressing water and environmental challenges effectively.

The Vegas Golden Knights Foundation Grant supports local non-profits in Las Vegas, focusing on health and wellness, education, youth sports, and military and first responders. As a 501(c)(3) organization, it aims to make a sustainable impact through community programming and direct grants, awarding up to $20,000 per grant cycle. Eligible organizations must be qualified 501(c)(3) entities and may only submit one application per cycle, ensuring focused support for community-driven initiatives.

The Columbus Realtors Foundation supports real estate-related initiatives in central Ohio through its community grants. With over $600,000 invested since 2008, the foundation aids organizations that address homelessness, repair homes for low-income families, and promote affordable housing. Established in 1991, it aims to enhance the real estate environment while empowering local nonprofits and government entities to foster healthy communities.

The City of Lafayette's Mental Health & Human Services Grant Program supports nonprofit organizations that provide essential services to Lafayette residents. Eligible organizations can receive funding for various assistance programs, including food, rent, utility, and childcare help, as well as medical care and mental health resources. Preference is given to nonprofits that serve a significant number of local residents. This initiative aims to enhance the well-being of the community by addressing critical needs.

Nevada's RHT Funding Opportunities

The Nevada Health Authority (NVHA) is currently seeking applicants for initiatives funded through the Nevada Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP).

These funding opportunities support Nevada’s statewide effort to improve rural health access, strengthen healthcare infrastructure, expand workforce capacity, and implement innovative care delivery models.

The Rural Health Transformation Program is supported through a federal cooperative agreement authorized under Public Law 119-21, Section 71401, and administered in partnership with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

To bolster and modernize the state’s rural health care infrastructure through investments that enhance and modernize local rural health care infrastructures. 

Bolster and modernize the state’s rural healthcare infrastructure with new investments in items like technology, equipment, supplies, mobile units, emergency services, etc. 

The BCF Stronger Schools Grants aim to enhance student mental health and improve school climate in Baltimore City and County. This initiative focuses on funding programs that support kindergarten readiness, behavioral interventions, restorative practices, and wellness initiatives. Collaborating with schools is essential, ensuring alignment with educational leaders' goals. Grants typically range from $1,000 to $20,000, addressing diverse needs, including targeted programs for English language learners and students with disabilities.

The FY2025-27 Biennial Budget provided $4 million for Dam Grants with the majority being committed to fund eligible engineering and construction costs associated with the maintenance, repair, modification or abandonment and removal of municipally owned dams.The Municipal Dam grant program provides a cost-sharing opportunity for eligible engineering and construction costs for dam maintenance, repair, modification or abandonment and removal.  Applicants must have an Engineer's inspection order or directive and a Dam Failure Analysis sufficient to identify the hazard potential based on the current development in the hydraulic shadow downstream of the dam. Applicants must have an Engineer's inspection order or directive and a Dam Failure Analysis sufficient to identify the hazard potential based on the current development in the hydraulic shadow downstream of the dam.

The MMS Giving Foundation Grant aims to enhance the lives of individuals and communities in the Pacific Northwest through support for education, arts, and community programs. Focused on the Puget Sound region, the Foundation prioritizes funding specific tasks or projects that address pressing needs. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) public charities in good standing that are located in King County or neighboring areas. The Foundation does not fund religious or political activities.

The Emergency Solutions Grant Program (NC) aims to support non-profits and local governments in providing services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. The program includes activities such as street outreach, emergency shelter, rapid re-housing, and homelessness prevention, with a total funding allocation of $433,683 for the CoC. Agencies are encouraged to submit applications to ensure essential services are provided.

The Eastern Bank Foundation (EBF) is dedicated to empowering communities through its Neighborhood Donations initiative. By investing over $16 million in local organizations, EBF aims to support vital services and promote equity in Eastern Massachusetts, Southern New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. This program allows contributions to non-501(c)(3) organizations, reinforcing EBF's commitment to partnership and community-driven solutions, with donations typically ranging from $100 to $1,000.

The Limited Competition Small Grant Program for NIDDK K01/K08/K23/K25 recipients offers funding opportunities for pilot studies and feasibility research. This program aims to support researchers transitioning to independent investigator roles by providing resources for small projects that can yield preliminary data for future R01 applications. Key deadlines for applications range from February 2025 through January 2028, with specific dates for standard, renewal, and AIDS-related applications.

The Max W. Johnson Scholarship, established by Max Johnson, supports students from Montgomery County, Indiana, enrolled in the Purdue University College of Agriculture. This educational scholarship recognizes achievements in soil and water conservation practices. The award is renewable for up to four years and covers tuition only. Eligible applicants must be graduates from local high schools and demonstrate a commitment to conservation efforts, enhancing the importance of sustainability in agriculture.

The AWWA Scholarship Program, specifically the Woodard & Curran Scholarship, offers a $5,000 merit-based award annually to undergraduate or graduate students focused on water-related fields. This initiative aims to support historically marginalized communities, including women and BIPOC students, promoting equity in the water industry. With clean water being essential for community health, this scholarship reflects AWWA's commitment to nurturing the next generation of water professionals.

The Chartercare Behavioral & Mental Health Grant offers up to $50,000 for proposals aimed at improving mental health services for children and adults in Rhode Island. The grant seeks innovative programs that address critical gaps in care, ensuring timely access to mental health professionals and effective treatment for issues like anxiety and depression. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits in good standing, with a preference for new initiatives or enhancements to existing programs.

The Climatetech Testing and Demonstration Assets (TDA) Program, offered by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), aims to enhance climatetech innovation in Massachusetts. It provides capital grants ranging from $1.5M to $5M to Entrepreneur Support Organizations (ESOs) for shared infrastructure and equipment development. This initiative addresses gaps in the climatetech ecosystem, promoting commercialization and economic growth, while positioning Massachusetts as a leader in clean energy solutions.

The Live Más Scholarship, offered by the Taco Bell Foundation, supports students aged 16-26 pursuing higher education and workforce readiness. Emphasizing passion and impact, applicants showcase how their interests drive positive change in their communities. The foundation is dedicated to breaking down educational barriers, fostering creativity across various fields including arts, technology, and entrepreneurship. This initiative empowers young dreamers to turn their aspirations into actionable goals, creating meaningful contributions to society.
