Kresge Innovative Projects: Detroit Plus (KIP:D+) Cultural Heritage Grants

The Detroit Program’s Kresge Innovative Projects: Detroit Plus initiative is launching its first-ever Cultural Heritage round, with up to $1.25 million available for community-led projects that preserve, celebrate and activate the cultural identity of neighborhoods across Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. In partnership with Co.act Detroit and Michigan Community Resources, the program will award 10 to 15 grants of up to $100,000 each for storytelling, oral history, public art, cultural events, neighborhood signage and placekeeping work.

As we evaluate proposals, we look for efforts that:

• Engage neighborhood residents and meaningfully reflect the community in organizational leadership and implementation of project activities.
• Align with one or more of the Detroit Program Focus Areas.
• Show an understanding of and address the ways in which racial inequities have impacted the city.
• Work toward a broad, equitable and sustainable revitalization in the city’s neighborhoods.
• Complement and/or connect to networks of collaborators engaged in similar work, or who are working in the same geographic area.

The Seeding Wayne County Grant Program, operated by Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency, aims to combat poverty by providing funding to grassroots organizations in Wayne County. With a total allocation of $550,000 for the fiscal year 2026, grants range from $1,000 to $7,500. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) entities serving low-income residents and can apply for funding for direct services in areas such as education, health, and nutrition.

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation focuses on improving economic mobility and social progress through partnerships with nonprofits. Fire departments in Detroit, Michigan seeking funding for training, equipment, or technology can apply for grants ranging from US $5,000 - US $25,000. The Leary Firefighters Foundation’s Jeremiah Lucey Grant Program supports paid and volunteer departments, including those in Wayne County, Michigan, that demonstrate proactive efforts to solve critical safety and operational challenges.

The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Funds aim to provide enduring support for initiatives that resonate with Mr. Wilson's passions, including caregiving, design, youth sports, and Grosse Pointe community assets. Grants typically range from $10,000 to $25,000, with some up to $50,000 for specific funds. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, schools, and government entities located in the five Grosse Pointe communities of Michigan, fostering local development and enrichment.

HOPE Fund Grants

The HOPE Fund (Helping Others through Partnerships and Education) was created to strengthen organizations and projects that support LGBTQ+ individuals and families, through targeted grantmaking, projects and technical assistance.

The HOPE Fund provides grants and technical assistance to nonprofit organizations serving local LGBTQ+ communities in Southeast Michigan. The Fund will consider applications from either LGBTQ+ -specific nonprofit agencies or nonprofit agencies that have a broader mission but are meaningfully serving the LGBTQ+ community in some way.

The Detroit Auto Dealers Association (DADA) Charitable Foundation Fund empowers charitable organizations focused on enhancing the lives of children and youth in southeast Michigan. Since its establishment in 1999, it has allocated over $6.4 million to support local nonprofits. The fund prioritizes sustainability, regional impact, collaboration, and leveraging additional resources to ensure lasting benefits for the community. Applications are welcomed from 501(c)(3) organizations serving the defined region, with an emphasis on impactful, collaborative projects.

Detroit-area 501(c)(3) nonprofits working on STEM education, transportation access, road safety, or related workforce and infrastructure initiatives in Wayne County, Michigan can access funding through General Motors Foundation. Grants support programs near GM facilities that advance STEM literacy, technical education, safe vehicle use, and equitable, resilient transportation solutions; applications are accepted January through September.

Detroit, Michigan 501(c)(3) nonprofits focused on basic needs, income creation, stable housing, or empowering communities can access funding through Bank of America Charitable Foundation. Eligible organizations must serve low- and moderate-income communities within Bank of America’s designated markets and can support vulnerable populations such as working families, youth, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities.

The Ethel and James Flinn Foundation is dedicated to enhancing mental health treatment for children and youth in southeast Michigan. With 1 in 5 youths facing serious mental health challenges, the Foundation funds evidence-based projects ranging from $50,000 to $75,000 annually to improve access to care. By implementing best practices in behavioral health, the Foundation aims to address the significant gaps in treatment and support, fostering better outcomes for young individuals and their families.

Detroit, Michigan 501(c)(3) nonprofits supporting working students with job training, skill development, placement, or career advancement can access funding through Empower Work and Total Wireless. Grants of US $50,000 - US $150,000 support existing programs and require hosting 2–4 in-person events for working students at designated local Total Wireless retail locations.

The Ethel and James Flinn Foundation aims to enhance adult mental health services in Michigan through evidence-based practices. Their grants, ranging from $50,000 to $100,000 annually, support governmental and non-profit organizations in implementing innovative treatments. Focused on reducing stigma, improving access, and fostering collaboration, the foundation emphasizes the importance of research-informed approaches to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice in mental health care.

Knight Cities Challenge

Knight Foundation is currently accepting applications for the Knight Cities Challenge, a $5 million open call inviting individuals and organizations across its 26 communities to submit new, creative ideas for projects that can spark change and leave a lasting local impact.

Building on a long history of open challenges across programs, Knight democratizes access to grantmaking to unlock the best and brightest ideas. This spring, KCC returns to invest in its first cohort of community-centered solutions to local challenges and help promising ideas take root and grow.

Project ideas must focus on at least one of Knight’s investment areas: strengthening local news and information, creating pathways for economic opportunity or cultivating connection through arts, culture and the places that bring people together.

You may submit one idea, either as an individual or on behalf of your organization. While you are limited to one application as the lead applicant, you may collaborate on other projects submitted by different partners. Each individual or organization may receive funding for only one project.

For large institutions such as universities or city governments, schools or departments are considered separate entities. 

The Junior League of Detroit Grant aims to support organizations in Wayne County focused on improving children's health and welfare. With over $400,000 awarded annually, grants up to $25,000 are provided for various community projects. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) organizations based in Wayne County, submitting detailed program proposals and budgets. Preference is given to new initiatives, while requests from individuals and funding for general operations are excluded.

The Detroit Sportsmen’s Congress Scholarship, offered by the Four County Community Foundation, supports high school seniors and recent graduates who are junior members or children/grandchildren of DSC voting members. The scholarship ranges from $1,000 to $2,000 and requires two essays and an applicant appraisal. Award recipients will be recognized during the Foundation Scholarship Celebration in May, encouraging community involvement and educational advancement.

The Flourish Fund Grant, offered by CultureSource, supports innovative and experimental artist-led projects in Southeast Michigan. With annual funding of six $10,000 grants, the program encourages public engagement and collaboration among independent artists. Eligible projects should have a strong visual arts foundation and involve a public component, while ineligible projects include those led by students or existing incorporated entities. This initiative aims to foster creativity and cultural development in the region.

The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation, established in 2015, focuses on community transformation in Southeast Michigan and Western New York. With a spend-down structure by 2035, the foundation prioritizes collaborative investments in key areas like active lifestyles, success preparation, caregiver support, and economic development. Emphasizing urgency and innovation, it seeks to create lasting impacts by fostering partnerships and supporting visionary projects that address significant community needs.

The Best Buy Teen Tech Center is offering a Mini Tech Skills Workshop Grant to support local and national non-profits in providing STEAM skills workshops for youth aged 13-19. These workshops, which include topics such as coding, filmmaking, and robotics, aim to enhance technical skills and career exploration. Funding can reach up to $24,999, with a focus on hands-on, facilitator-led experiences, and additional programming opportunities may be considered.

The Steel Dynamics Foundation Grant focuses on enhancing community quality of life and local economies by supporting 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Priorities include higher education, economic development, and human services, particularly in communities where Steel Dynamics operates. Grants are awarded based on community impact, employee involvement, and organizational integrity. Applicants must demonstrate a strong ethical track record and effective community engagement to qualify for funding opportunities.

The Flowers for Dreams Foundation Grant prioritizes organizations committed to mental health and community care initiatives for vulnerable populations. With a mission to fund local charities, the foundation has donated over $1.5 million to date. Grants range from $5,000 to $20,000, with applications accepted year-round. In 2025, the foundation emphasizes support for mental health services, ensuring that funds are used for impactful community care. Organizations must have a 501(c)(3) status and operate within the designated service area.

The Jean Griswold Foundation

The Jean Griswold Foundation (JGF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Caregivers through educational opportunities and scholarships. 

Our Mission

The mission of the Jean Griswold Foundation is to support Caregivers by providing educational scholarships* to enable them to further their training, enhance their careers, and better assist the clients they serve.

By offering educational scholarships*, our Foundation will not only make a positive impact on the Caregivers themselves, but also the clients they assist and the home healthcare agencies where they are employed, as well as help advance the overarching home-care industry.

Scholarships will be paid directly to the federally accredited educational institutions of the winning Scholars’ choosing.

Empowering Caregivers Through Education

The Jean Griswold Foundation Scholarship Program awards scholarships to deserving Caregivers who wish to further their education in a care-related field. Applicants do not have to be associated with Griswold in any way, and the funds will be paid directly to the institution where the caregiver will be receiving education.

American Welding Society (AWS) Foundation: Detroit Section Grant

The American Welding Society Foundation is committed to supporting welding education on the local level through its Welding Workforce Grant program.

AWS Sections sponsor annual grants for welding schools to purchase equipment or expand facilities to train more welders. 

Funds will be distributed only to the education/training institution. A grant recipient may not apply again for three years following selection.

Grant Amount

• $15,000

Educational institutions and organizations in Detroit, Michigan (Wayne County) that run STEM or aviation education programs for underrepresented communities can apply for JetBlue Foundation grants up to US $50,000. Focus areas include aviation technology, engineering, operations, maintenance, and sustainable or environmental aviation programs serving groups such as women, veterans, diverse communities, LGBTQ+, and people with disabilities.

The PLTW Gateway grant, funded by PPG Industries, aims to support schools in implementing PLTW Gateway programs for the 2025-2026 academic year. Schools must offer two different PLTW units over two years and complete grant reporting. Eligible schools include public and charter institutions in cities like Huntsville, AL, and Detroit, MI. The total grant amount is $10,000, distributed equally over two years, enabling schools to enhance their STEM education offerings.

The Brinker International Charitable Giving Program focuses on giving back to communities through support for kids, hunger, and education. Organizations eligible for funding must be 501c(3) non-profits and submit requests at least six weeks prior to events. The program does not support individuals, political or religious organizations, or explicit discrimination policies. Funding is provided through monetary donations or in-kind contributions like dining certificates.

Detroit, Michigan 501(c)(3) nonprofits and public agencies serving youth can apply for Skillman Foundation’s President’s Discretionary Fund, with awards of US $2,500 - US $10,000 for small, one-time projects. Funding can support pilot programs, youth-focused efforts in areas like health, housing, or justice, and occasional event sponsorships that benefit Detroit youth.
