The Hershberger Youth Scholarship Award, established by the Tulsa Community Foundation, supports students from First Methodist Church of Sapulpa who actively engage in their programs. Eligible applicants are graduating seniors planning to enroll in an accredited college or vocational-technical school immediately after graduation. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society offers the Sylvia Lawry Physician Fellowships to support MDs in acquiring essential clinical trial training. This fellowship aims to enhance expertise in conducting complex trials for MS therapies, fostering skills in protocol design, patient recruitment, and data analysis. Better Food Policy Fund 

Since its inception, the Better Food Policy Fund has set its strategic direction in a participatory fashion. We are intentionally building capacity for engagement to ensure the Fund aligns with the needs of food policy council stakeholders.   

Thus far, the Fund has engaged 300+ food policy council stakeholders to help co-develop the Fund. We are immensely grateful for the individuals who helped shape the initial direction of this fund. We view this growing stakeholder audience as the people to whom the Fund’s governing body, the Independent Advisory Committee, is ultimately accountable.

Grantmaking

The Better Food Policy Fund invests in US-based food policy councils, empowering community and government collaboration for progressive food policy. We utilize participatory processes to enhance equity and redistribute power in the funding landscape. We seek to celebrate and uplift the work of food policy councils, and believe every food policy council is worthy of financial support.

We define “food policy councils” as councils, networks, coalitions, or other groups working across boundaries at the tribal, municipal, county, state, or regional level.  

We support actions aimed at ensuring an enabling environment for policy change, such as: 

• increasing levels of inclusive and equitable stakeholder engagement in public processes
• engaging systems thinking when tackling complex food system challenges
• facilitating collaboration with and across local government agencies and departments 
• developing or revising local policies and plans  

We define “better food policy” as practices, procedures, ordinances, laws, etc. of governing institutions which strengthen community-based food systems.

We define “civic collaboration” as people joining together at the intersection of community and government to address public issues.

The David G. & Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Scholarship supports students pursuing vocational or technical certificates and associate degrees in medically-related fields at any college in the U.S. Open to graduating seniors, current college students, and returning students, this renewable scholarship emphasizes the importance of education in achieving career aspirations. Financial need is not a consideration, allowing a diverse range of applicants to seek funding for their educational goals.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose High School Scholarship, administered by the East Texas Communities Foundation, supports graduating high school seniors pursuing higher education in any field at a college in the United States. Applicants must demonstrate financial need through FAFSA and are encouraged to have a background in varsity athletics. This scholarship reflects the foundation's commitment to empowering students and helping them achieve their educational aspirations.

The Bay Area Lyme Foundation's Emerging Leader Award supports innovative research in Lyme disease, offering two $150,000 grants to post-doctoral and early-career scientists. Applicants are encouraged to propose proof-of-concept projects that enhance diagnostics or therapeutics. The award seeks to attract talent and foster scientific leadership in biomedical sciences. Evaluation criteria include the potential for novel therapies, scientific rationale, and support from institutions. This opportunity is ideal for those new to tickborne disease research.

The Baptist Health Advance Practice Provider Neurology Fellowship at Miami Neuroscience Institute offers a 12-month postgraduate training for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants passionate about neurology. The program emphasizes high-quality, evidence-based care for neurological conditions, integrating didactic and clinical learning. Graduates will gain essential knowledge in neuroanatomy, evaluation, and treatment of neurological diseases, preparing them to deliver culturally competent care in various settings. With a cohort size of two per year, this fellowship promotes excellence in neurological practice.

This scholarship emphasizes the importance of education in achieving dreams and considers financial need, requiring FAFSA submission. Applicants must demonstrate artistic potential and commitment to their field of study to be eligible for this one-year support opportunity.
