Charles & Emilia Gugliuzza CKI Scholarship

Through the generosity of 2014-15 Florida Kiwanis District Governor Charles Gugliuzza, the Florida Kiwanis Foundation is offering a $1,000 scholarship to an exceptional CKI Student. This scholarship is dedicated to his wife, Emilia Gugliuzza for her tireless efforts in helping to eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus and her support of family, friends, and Kiwanis.

The David and Donna Batelaan Fund provides three grant opportunities aimed at supporting Service Leadership Programs, including Aktion Club, Builders Club, and Key Clubs. Grants typically cover project costs up to $2,000 and are awarded in two cycles: October to March and April to September. The Florida Kiwanis Foundation, established in 1971, administers these grants to foster leadership and community service among youth in Florida, ensuring impactful support for children and families.

There are three opportunities for this grant: Kiwanis Clubs/Divisions; Service Leadership Programs: Builders Club, Key Clubs and Circle K Clubs; and Service Leadership Programs of Aktion Club.

Service Leadership Programs: Builders Club, Key Clubs and Circle K Clubs

The purpose of this portion of the fund is to award grants to support Builders Club, Key Clubs and Circle K Clubs or division projects. Grants are awarded to a Florida Builders Club, Key Club and Circle K Kiwanis Club or division by use of the official application form that is provided by division trustees. 

Grants may be made to initiate a project, including a major change, addition, or renovation to a project. Funds to sustain the functioning of a project on an on-going basis must be provided by a club or division.

Grants must be used to assist a Florida Service Leadership Program Club or Division projects.

The Southern Scholarship Foundation offers rent-free housing to students in Florida who demonstrate financial need, academic merit, and good character. This initiative supports students at various universities, encouraging a cooperative living environment, community events, and leadership development. With a commitment to transforming lives through education, the Foundation aims to empower students to thrive academically and personally. Applications are open until April 1, 2025, for Fall consideration and November 1, 2025, for Spring.

The Pinellas Community Foundation's PCF Operating Grants provide essential two-year funding to nonprofits, enabling them to address core operational costs such as staffing, infrastructure, and outreach. These flexible, unrestricted grants empower organizations to prioritize their unique needs, ensuring that vital community services continue uninterrupted. The Mayor's Matching Grant Program, initiated in 1994, supports Orange County Public Schools and nonprofit organizations by funding projects that enhance community engagement, education, and youth development. Grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 are available, requiring a dollar-for-dollar match from applicants. This initiative fosters collaboration among community members and organizations, aiming to create safe environments and improve academic outcomes for youth in Orlando.

Mini Grants

The Mini Grant program is new and the concept was approved by the Foundation’s Board of Directors during the 2011-2012 administrative year.

The Mini Grant program is less formal than the Matching Grant program and is on a first come first served basis until the funds are exhausted. The Foundation President will make a determination as to the acceptability of any Mini-Grant application, and if approved, funds will be processed immediately.

There is a simple one-page application form for the Mini Grant and the maximum request is $750.00. The amount does not need to be matched by the club nor does the request need to cover capital expenses.

The program was created for assistance to small clubs with little resources. Priority for these awards is given to the smaller clubs, of 35 members or less, with limited service budgets.

• Mini Grants should be used to assist a Kiwanis club within the Florida District of Kiwanis with a project that contributes to the achievement of the Objects of Kiwanis International, specifically, a project that enhances the lives of young children and youth in their community, in accordance with the mission of the Florida Kiwanis Foundation. 
• Mini Grants can be used to assist a Kiwanis club within the Florida District of Kiwanis with a project that supports Aktion Clubs, CKI Clubs, Key Clubs, K-Kids, and Builders (Service Leadership Programs).

Matching Grants

The Matching Grant Program requires a formal application from a Kiwanis club or a division from within the Florida District. The current maximum grant allowed is $10,000. This is to allow the greatest distribution of our limited funds. A club or division is only eligible for a grant every 5 years. The funds must be used for capital improvement. The club or division contribution to the project must equal or exceed that of the grant.

The Matching Grants applications are approved in two separate cycles. Cycle I cutoff is December 15 so that the Grant Committee has time to review the applications in time for the mid-winter board meeting (usually held in February). Cycle II cutoff date is June 15 so that the Grant Committee has time to review the applications in time for the DCON Board Meeting (usually in August).

Although it is not a requirement for a club to have contributed to the Foundation Annual Gift program, or have Foundation Sustaining Members on its roster, preference is given to those clubs and divisions that have shown a history of support for the Foundation.

Grants should be used to assist a Florida Kiwanis Club or Division with a project that contributes to the achievement of the Objects of Kiwanis International, specifically, a project that enhances the lives of young children and youth in their community, in accordance with the mission of the Florida Kiwanis Foundation.

Background

The Florida Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services is the state library administrative agency officially designated to receive and administer federal grant funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) is the major federal grant program for libraries. The LSTA program, administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services:

• Is a state-based program.
• Has purposes which focus on information access through technology and information empowerment through special services.
• Emphasizes public libraries but encourages interlibrary cooperation and partnerships among all types of libraries.
• Increases emphasis on accountability and evaluation.
• Is authorized under 20 United States Code 9101 et seq., as amended (https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/USCODE-2022-title20/pdf/USCODE-2022- title20-chap72-subchapI-sec9101.pdf) (as of January 2023), incorporated by reference. 

Florida’s grant program is based on the purposes of LSTA and the needs of Florida residents and libraries. Grant projects must clearly fit in with both the LSTA purposes and priorities as listed in Section IX and Florida’s long-range plan. The Division may identify priorities for funding in a specific year. The funding priorities for FY2025-26 competitive projects are America250 Florida community celebration activities and support

South Arts, Inc. offers Literary Arts Grants to support Southern independent publishers and small presses with funding up to $5,000. These grants aim to amplify contemporary literary arts and foster community engagement through projects like reading series and festivals. Eligible applicants must be based in the South Arts Region and demonstrate a commitment to advancing literary traditions. This initiative enhances access to the arts and promotes cultural vitality across the Southern states.

The Southern SARE: Professional Development Grants support educational initiatives for agricultural professionals, enhancing outreach and training efforts directly benefiting farmers and ranchers. These grants fund diverse training activities, including workshops and farm tours, aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture through effective participatory methods. Projects are encouraged to involve multi-disciplinary partnerships and the participation of land-grant institutions, ensuring a comprehensive approach to agricultural education. Priority is given to projects with budgets under $80,000, fostering a broad array of impactful initiatives.

The UNICO Foundation offers the Dr. Benjamin Cottone Memorial Scholarship, providing $5,000 to support a U.S. citizen of Italian descent pursuing a medical degree. Eligible candidates must be seniors at accredited colleges or medical schools, with proof of enrollment required. This scholarship not only aids education but also honors the foundation's commitment to community service and heritage, reflecting the core values of the Italian American community.

The Ashland County Wildlife Conservation League David McClure Memorial Scholarship supports graduating seniors from Ashland County high schools and alternative education programs pursuing a degree in wildlife-related fields. Applicants must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be accepted into accredited colleges or vocational programs. This scholarship fosters educational growth while promoting conservation efforts, reflecting the commitment of the Ashland County Community Foundation to enhance community development and support future leaders in wildlife conservation.

The Medical Student Education Program (MSE) supports public medical schools in states facing primary care provider shortages, aiming to enhance medical education for future physicians. Eligible states include those in the top quartile projected to face shortages by 2038. Currently, 12 states such as Alabama and Texas are recognized, with 23 public medical schools identified as potential beneficiaries. Note that current MSE grantees are ineligible for the 2026 funding cycle.

The Tree Campus Higher Education Program, initiated by the Arbor Day Foundation, promotes environmental stewardship at colleges and universities by establishing a framework for maintaining healthy campus trees and green spaces. Participating institutions are recognized for their commitment to sustainability and community engagement, enhancing the college experience for students and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility. By meeting five key standards, schools can achieve national recognition, benefiting both the campus and the surrounding community.

Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation Inc supports independent medical education to enhance healthcare professional competence and improve patient health outcomes. Their mission is to be a global leader in innovative medical education, focusing on evidence-based activities that address critical gaps in knowledge. By fostering excellence in healthcare, they aim to ensure measurable improvements in performance and patient outcomes across various disease areas.

Florida Humanities' Book Festival Grants support Florida nonprofit organizations in hosting events that celebrate reading and literature. These grants aim to foster interactions between authors and readers, reflecting the human experience through storytelling. Eligible events can be single or multi-day, held virtually or in-person, and should include authors from Florida and beyond. A minimum 1:1 cost share is required, and festivals must be free or have nominal fees with provisions for reduced admission.

New ERA Writers Program Goals

The New Era Writers Program aims to inspire those who seek to improve their current abilities or find a community with like-minded individuals and writers. We want to provide support and resources to writers and writing programs to help amplify their voices and improve their capabilities. Our Foundation believes that one of the most important life skills is the ability to be an effective writer and communicator. We support programs that will provide anyone with the knowledge and skills to express themselves through the art of writing and encourage higher levels of training designed to assist in delivering clear and persuasive arguments for change and equality. This program was designed to support writers as they pursue a career and love of writing.

Program Outline

The New Era program was created to encourage writing professionals, teachers, counselors, professors, and schools to start or continue programs supporting professional and creative writing career paths.

The program can support:

• Any writing genre: Journalism, Fiction, Poetry, Prose, Blogging, Novel, Autobiography, Book Reviews, Comic Strips, Diaries, Essays, Fables, etc.
• Programs can be Workshops, Writing Clubs, Curriculum Based Programs, After-school programs, Summer Programs, Retreats, etc.
• Program space that provides a safe and inspiring environment.
• Community Partnerships or On-Staff Writing Professionals or Teachers with Writing Degrees or who Minored in Writing or any Humanities, Liberal Arts or another degree that teaches or encourages writing.

Mission

The Foundation was established in December 2013 by Kathryn B. McQuade, after retiring from 33 years of working in the business community. I was blessed to have been born into a loving middle class family. My father worked very hard to insure that all of his children were given an opportunity for a good education and my mother, “a stay at home Mom’ was always there for us. My world was safe and comfortable. My life is in stark contrast to how much of the rest of the world lives. I continue to read of the terrible injustices waged against women and children globally and hope that this foundation can provide them the opportunity and resources to succeed. We will support organizations that help us achieve our goal of Striving to make sustainable improvements in women and children’s rights education and welfare.

Women

The Foundation’s goal is to provide women assistance and provide them an opportunity to succeed. Assistance can take many forms, however our goal is to help them become self sufficient and enable them to lift themselves out of poverty and provide for their children. Access to education, job training and professional skills, even access to capital in order to build a business are possible ways we will consider helping women to succeed. Grant requests should focus on enabling the women to sustain financial independence.

We look forward to hearing of the many creative ways organizations are working on helping women succeed through out the world. To help women is to help their children and the communities they live in.

Children

Too many children in the US and across the world live in poverty and lack the access to education. Education and/or appropriate skills training are necessary to break the cycle of poverty and crime. While the assistance to women may take many forms, the foundation’s focus for children will target education and/ or skills training. The Foundation is open to many ideas on how to accomplish this goal and look forward to receiving proposals to help all children achieve their potential.

The Bonnycastle Fellowship for Wetland and Waterfowl Research supports graduate students in advancing conservation efforts. Offered by Ducks Unlimited, this fellowship provides up to $17,000 annually for research and personal support. The fellowship emphasizes the importance of research originality, ecological contributions, and feasibility. It is open to all North American graduate students, with a preference for doctoral candidates. The award is renewable for PhD students up to two years, and once for Master's students, contingent on satisfactory progress.

Community Foundation for Northeast Florida

The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida connects people who care with causes that matter. Since 1964, we have served the citizens of Duval, St. Johns, Nassau, Baker, Clay, and Putnam counties through a range of charitable and civic activities, while helping individual donors achieve their philanthropic goals. Scholarships

Thanks to generous donors, The Community Foundation offers several scholarships each year that benefit students in Northeast Florida who are seeking post-secondary degrees.

Dr. Linda McLucas Fisher Scholarship

The Dr. Linda McLucas Fisher Scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate female students, 25 years old or older, who are pursuing an undergraduate degree at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ). The award will provide up to $500 per semester to support tuition, books, and other college-related expenses. This scholarship is available for renewal each semester until graduation, given that the student continues to maintain eligibility requirements. 

The Raftelis Leadership Scholarship, offered by the American Water Works Association, supports undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a consulting career in water utilities. With a value of $5,000, this scholarship aims to foster relationships with diverse, promising students who demonstrate leadership and strong academic performance. Applicants from various academic backgrounds, including business and finance, are encouraged to apply, emphasizing initiative and a desire to contribute positively to the community.

The Wold Foundation Grant, established in 1985, aims to support charitable, scientific, literary, and educational projects primarily benefiting Wyoming citizens and youth. It prioritizes initiatives in education, human services, cultural activities, healthcare, and scientific endeavors that promote conservation and outdoor recreation. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) classified and operate in the U.S. The foundation does not fund individuals or projects that discriminate based on sex, age, or religion.

The Duke Energy Foundation offers Local Impact Grants of up to $20,000 aimed at promoting vibrant economies, climate resiliency, and justice, equity, and inclusion. These grants are available year-round and support workforce development, community revitalization, and environmental projects. Eligible organizations must have tax-exempt status and serve communities in Florida counties served by Duke Energy, while ensuring non-discrimination and measurable community impact.

Florida Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program

Overview

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program is a federal program that provides funding for housing and community development activities. Congress created the program when it passed the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974.

The program, which is administered by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), consists of two components:

FloridaCommerce administers the State Program in Florida through the Small Cities CDBG Program. This is a competitive grant program that awards funds to units of local government in small urban and rural areas. FloridaCommerce receives between 18 and 26 million dollars annually from HUD to award subgrants to eligible units of local government.

The program provides an excellent opportunity for communities to obtain funds for projects that they cannot otherwise afford. CDBG funds can also provide administrative support for local governments that may not have the staffing resources necessary to administer their projects. Examples of CDBG-funded projects include:

• Water and Sewer Improvements,
• Rehabilitation of Substandard Housing,
• Street and Sidewalk Improvements,
• Economic Development Activities that Create Jobs for Low-and Moderate-Income People,
• Downtown Revitalization, including Facade Improvements, Streetscaping, and Underground Utilities,
• Park Facilities and Community Centers, and
• Drainage / Stormwater Improvements.

Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Application Cycle

Funding is available for the Neighborhood Revitalization, Housing Rehabilitation, and Commercial Revitalization program areas. Non-entitlement units of local government are eligible to apply for funding in any of the three program areas if they have an open CDBG subgrant in one of the three areas.

FloridaCommerce also has funding available in the Economic Development program area for job creation and/or retention activities. Non-entitlement units of local government that have an open Neighborhood Revitalization, Housing Rehabilitation, Commercial Revitalization, or Economic Development subgrant are eligible to apply for Economic Development funding.
