Washington County Community Foundation

The Washington County Community Foundation seeks to improve the quality of life in Washington County by promoting and facilitating philanthropy. We accomplish this by assuming four philanthropic roles of Grantmaker, Donor Service Organization, Fundraiser, and Community Leader. Fostering philanthropy by offering charitable gifting opportunities to donors on an individualized basis and at reasonable fees, we make charitable giving easier, more satisfying, and more effective.

Scholarships for Post-Secondary (Undergraduate) School

The Foundation provides both need-based and merit-based scholarships to students in Washington County, with a few scholarships also available to students in Greene County. All scholarships are made payable to the educational institution the student is attending. 

John & Sophie Choratch Scholarship Fund

For current year graduating seniors of any Washington County high school, whose parent or guardian is employed as, or who volunteers as, a first responder (e.g., fire, emergency/rescue, police). Special consideration will be given to those students whose parent or guardian has been killed in the line of duty or who have otherwise been affected by local tragedy.

The AMA Foundation Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship: Formica-Riggs/New Jersey offers $10,000 in tuition assistance to medical students entering their final year. Since 1950, the AMA Foundation has awarded over $61 million in scholarships, aiming to support a diverse cohort of medical students, particularly those underrepresented in the field. Eligible applicants must be New Jersey residents attending medical school in the state, fostering local talent in healthcare.

Douglas T. Corwin, M.D. Memorial Scholarship Fund

For a current year graduating senior who resides within Washington County, and who is pursuing any bachelor’s degree program.

The AMA Foundation Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship, named in honor of Dr. Lin and Minta Hill Alexander, offers $10,000 in tuition assistance to medical students in their final year of school. Open to all students regardless of AMA membership, it specifically targets those attending accredited medical schools in Oklahoma. This initiative continues the AMA Foundation's legacy of supporting diverse medical students, having distributed over $61 million in scholarships since 1950.

CAS/Dr. Kim Stacher Scholarship Fund

For a student who resides within the boundaries of any Washington County or Greene County school district, demonstrates financial need, and who plans to enroll in a certificate, associate, or bachelor’s degree program. Qualified applicants who participated in the Headstart program will be given special consideration.

The Birgit Baldwin Fellowship, established by John W. Baldwin and Jenny Jochens in 2004, supports graduate students researching French medieval history. With a grant of $20,000, the fellowship covers research and living expenses for one academic year, with renewal possible upon satisfactory progress. It is awarded to students at North American universities whose dissertation proposals are approved, ensuring they can devote full time to their research without other job commitments.

Anica D. Rawnsley Scholarship Fund

For a current year graduating senior who resides within the boundaries of any Washington County school district and plans to enroll in a certificate, associate, or bachelor's degree program. In the selection process, preference shall be given to students not receiving substantial government aid and/or who are not normally selected for other scholarships.

Applicants must show commitment to medicine and patient care, and all students from accredited U.S. medical schools can apply, regardless of AMA membership status.

The AMA Foundation's Physicians of Tomorrow Scholarship in Illinois offers $10,000 in tuition assistance to medical students nearing graduation. This prestigious program, established in 1950, has awarded over $61 million in scholarships, emphasizing diversity and support for underrepresented medical students. Eligible applicants must be Illinois residents, involved in organized medicine, and plan to practice in Illinois post-residency. This scholarship continues the AMA Foundation's commitment to advancing medical education and fostering a diverse healthcare workforce.

The Regional Foundation Responsive Grants provide urgent financial support to current or former grantees facing unforeseen, time-sensitive challenges. Grants, up to $25,000, are intended for tactical or strategic needs arising from emergencies, disasters, or critical changes within communities. Examples include natural disasters impacting neighborhoods or sudden leadership transitions. However, requests for ongoing operational costs or event sponsorships are not eligible. The application process is designed for quick turnaround, typically within one week.

In just one application, our Common Scholarship Application provides students access to more than 150 scholarship opportunities with awards ranging from $1,000 to more than $5,000.

In 2025, San Diego Foundation awarded a record-breaking $5.5 million in scholarships to nearly 1,400 students.

Have resided in San Diego County for at least four years and have a demonstrated financial need.

Some of the funds help students from a particular school or area; others provide financial assistance to those pursuing a specific field of study; still others assist students that are most in need. Students who apply to the Scholarship program may be eligible for many of these funds.

• Scholarships may be used to offset tuition, fees, room and board, and other items included as part of the cost for attending the institution. 
• Most scholarships are for students who live in Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden Counties. However, some are also available to students who live in Berkshire County and Hartford County in Connecticut.
• We offer scholarships to those who attend on either a full-time or part-time basis. 
• Any student who plans to enroll for the upcoming fall semester, in any year of college as an undergraduate or graduate student and who will attend an accredited post-secondary school in the United States may apply.
• Scholarships are provided for one academic year and are not automatically renewed each year. You can reapply to our program every year you are going to attend college, and the application you submit that year will be considered for all scholarships for which you are eligible.

Eric Clayton Hockey Memorial Scholarship Fund

Supporting graduating high school seniors from Easthampton, Holyoke, Southampton and Westhampton; preference for those with ice hockey involvement

The A to Z Fund Mini-Grant supports Oakland public schools by providing resources for underfunded educational projects, including STEM, art, and music initiatives. With a focus on equity, the fund prioritizes schools serving low-income students and those facing significant challenges. Grants can cover supplies, guest speakers, and project-related expenses, ensuring that all students have access to enriching experiences. This initiative addresses the disparities in funding across schools, aiming to create equal opportunities for all students.

Alliant Energy’s Community Tree Planting Program, part of the One Million Trees Initiative, is a recognized program aimed at enhancing community and environmental health. Collaborating with Trees Forever, this initiative supports communities in Iowa and Wisconsin to plant trees, fostering energy efficiency and stewardship. Grants of up to $5,000 are available for purchasing local landscape-sized trees. The program helps ensure a greener future by engaging citizens in tree planting efforts, thereby improving local ecosystems and community vitality.

First National Bank Amherst Centennial Education Scholarship Fund

The Gerard W.J. and Madeline Tremblay Endowed Scholarship at Western Michigan University supports undergraduate students majoring in communication. Established by Dr. Christopher Tremblay, this scholarship honors his parents and provides a minimum of $500 annually to assist with tuition and fees. Eligible candidates must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher and preference is given to first-generation college students. This scholarship aims to empower future communicators with financial assistance.

Clarke County Foundation for Tomorrow Grant

“The Clarke County Foundation for Tomorrow was created by the Clarke County Chamber of Commerce to benefit programs and activities for Clarke County Students through their respective school systems, their teachers or staff, or to benefit any 501c(3) organization whose programs and activities will benefit Clarke County.”

With over 40 years of heartfelt service, the Community Foundation of East Mississippi is dedicated to fostering charitable giving that connects generous individuals, families, and businesses to meaningful opportunities. We bridge resources and needs to uplift the dynamic communities we serve.

Community Foundation of East Mississippi awards grants through several competitive application processes each year. Our service area includes the following 5 counties in East Mississippi: Clarke, Kemper, Lauderdale, Neshoba and Newton. 

The purpose of the Kemper Hometown Endowment Fund is to provide mini-grants to teachers and to support educational programs and activities in Kemper County.

Six teacher grants will be awarded each year.

The Community Foundation of East Mississippi wants to support your efforts to enhance your curriculum, introduce new tools, or launch creative projects!

Michigan Lighthouse Assistance Program (MLAP)

The Michigan Lighthouse Assistance Program (MLAP) was established to assist in the preservation, rehabilitation, and protection of historic lighthouses in Michigan.

With more than 120 lighthouses standing sentinel along Michigan’s 3,200 miles of shoreline, Michigan has more lighthouses than any other state in the country. Established in 2000 when many lighthouses were transferred out of federal ownership, the MLAP program is intended to help lighthouse stewards restore and repair their historic lighthouses, which in turn helps keep them open and an active part of local economies around the state as tourist and learning destinations. 

This grant program is managed through the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).

Funding for the MLAP comes from the sale of lighthouse license plates.

The George H. Nettleton Foundation Grant aims to enhance the quality of life for older adults in the Greater Kansas City area by funding unmet basic needs. The foundation envisions a healthy senior population and invites both new and existing programs to apply. Grants typically average under $100,000 and can extend for a maximum of two years. Agencies must be licensed 501C3 and serve specific counties in Missouri and Kansas.

The Arts Learning Grants program, offered by the Oregon Arts Commission, supports innovative projects that enhance K-12 arts education. It aims to create responsive learning opportunities, promote collaboration between artists and educators, and positively influence student achievement and attitudes. Priority funding is directed towards initiatives that serve rural and Title 1 schools, ensuring equitable access to quality arts education and fostering a vibrant cultural community.

The Jack Miller Center Fellowships at the Newberry Library support scholars advancing the understanding of America's founding principles and history. Open to postdoctoral scholars and PhD candidates, these short-term fellowships provide a stipend of $3,000 per month for research on specific collection items. Applications are encouraged from scholars of all nationalities, including those in the Chicago metropolitan area, fostering a diverse academic community committed to exploring America's historical narratives.

The Gallatin Beef Producers Association Scholarship, offered by Montana State University, supports undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Agriculture. Preference is given to recipients with family ties to the Gallatin Beef Producers organization or those who are graduates from specific counties in Montana. This scholarship aims to empower students within the agricultural field by providing financial assistance to those in need.

The LPGA Foundation

The LPGA Foundation supports women and young people through programs and initiatives aimed at empowering them through the game of golf. Since its founding, The LPGA Foundation has touched more than 500,000 lives through various scholarship and financial assistance programs, along with its flagship junior golf program, LPGA*USGA Girls Golf. The LPGA Foundation was established in 1991 and is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, which supports junior golf programs, scholarships, and financial assistance programs for women and young ladies.

Renee Powell Scholarship

The Renee Powell Scholarship will be awarded through The LPGA Foundation and the LPGA Renee Powell Fund. Established in 2022, the Renee Powell Scholarship will provide financial aid to female, Black or African American, high school seniors pursuing a full-time course of study and playing collegiate golf at an accredited college or university in the United States. Through this effort, The LPGA Foundation will further its commitment to Change the Face of Golf and create opportunities for Black or African American girls to pursue their dreams. 

The scholarships we award vary each year based on the unique criteria of each scholarship. In 2025, we awarded over $3 million in scholarships to over 500 students, including $1.3 million to 110 students in western NC through our Disaster Relief and Resilience Scholarship.

Depending on the scholarship, it may pay for tuition, room and board, books, fees and/or other related educational expenses. 

Ernestine J. Williams Scholarship Endowment Fund

Award decisions are based on academic performance and potential and on financial need. (This award is renewable for a maximum of four years. Recipients must submit a current transcript annually to renew to be eligible for renewal, recipients must maintain a full course load and remain in good standing as defined by their school. Recipients who transfer to a four-year institution after study at a two-year institution will remain eligible for funding after transfer.

This will be outlined in your award notification. The minimum scholarship award amount is $1,000.
